  • Derrick Nnadi Commits To Florida State On National Signing Day

Florida State was at the top of their game throughout much of the 2013 season, and eventually made it to the BCS National Championship, proceeding to defeat Auburn. One of the biggest commitments that they received today was from Derrick Nnadi, a defensive tackle.

The Seminoles will be bringing in several more talented players to join the roster, and at the end of national signing day, Florida State has the third ranked 2014 recruiting class behind Alabama and LSU, respectively. With Jameis Winston returning, the winner of the Heisman award, they are likely to be a force to be reckoned with yet again in 2014.

Derrick Nnadi is a 4-star prospect from Virginia Beach, Virginia. As all of the big colleges continue to beef up their teams with big time high school stars, Florida State has added another big shot to their roster. Nnadi also had offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia, Ohio State, and Virginia.

It has been rumored for some time that Nnadi would choose Florida State, although Virginia Tech made a strong push for him as well with them wanting to keep him in his home state. He was the No.5 overall prospect in the state of Virginia, and No. 80 overall nationally.

Jimbo Fisher, who led the Florida State Seminoles to an undefeated record that was followed by a national championship win, is excited about a new class of young players that will be arriving in 2014. This afternoon, Fisher said “We hit needs all the way across the board. Very happy with this class.”

He also said that their biggest need was at the wide receiver position, and the Seminoles landed a couple of elite wide receivers, although they missed out on Scout.com’s top receiver, Malachi Dupre.

Florida State will be the new home for a few wide receivers including five-star Ermon Lane of Homestead, Fla., four-star Travis Rudolph of West Palm Beach, Fla., and three-star Ja’Von Harrison of Lakeland, Florida, who have also signed with Florida State.

Derrick Nnadi is one of five defensive linemen to sign with FSU, a group that also includes Demarcus Christmas of Bradenton, Fla., and Arthur Williams of Fayetteville, N.C. He is 6’1 and 305 lbs, and being the strong player on the field that he is, he has been described as bulky, physical, strong and quick.

  • Final AP Poll: Florida State Clear Number One

All the bowl games are over. Last night, Florida State defeated Auburn 34-31 in an up and down battle in the BCS title game. That means the 2013 College Football Season is officially in the books and the final AP Poll rankings were released this morning.

    Here’s a look:

    1. Florida State (60)
    2. Auburn
    3. Michigan State
    4. South Carolina
    5. Missouri
    6. Oklahoma
    7. Alabama
    8. Clemson
    9. Oregon
    10. UCF
    11. Stanford
    12. Ohio State
    13. Baylor
    14. LSU
    15. Louisville
    16. UCLA
    17. Oklahoma State
    18. Texas A&M
    19. USC
    20. Notre Dame
    21. Arizona State
    22. Wisconsin
    23. Duke
    24. Vanderbilt
    25. Washington

The Twitter world reacted to the always controversial rankings:

This is the third time that BCS Champ Florida State has earned top dog in the AP Poll. The Seminoles also received all 60 first-place votes. One interesting fact about the AP Poll is that a bowl win doesn’t necessarily improve a squad’s ranking. For example, underdog Clemson University surprised Ohio State in the Orange Bowl by defeating them 40-35. However, that was still only good enough for 8th place. And even though Oklahoma defeated a heavily favored Alabama team, who many thought should have been playing instead of Auburn in the BCS title game last night, they still ranked outside of the top 5.

Tell us what you think about the final rankings?

  • Dee Dee McCarron Commits Epic Twitter Fail

Perhaps Dee Dee McCarron (AKA Dee Dee Bonner) was jealous that it wasn’t her son A.J. giving an emotion-filled post game reaction after leading his team to a touchdown winning drive in the waning seconds of the BCS Title Game last night? Her reaction to Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston’s speech was not…well it certainly wasn’t very nice and definitely very insensitive.

Mrs. McCarron tweeted to her 20,000 followers last night:

Then she deleted the tweet after the immediate backlash and apologized for her remarks. And of course, she wants to let everyone know that she’s not a racist.

Unfortunately for McCarron, she is finding out the hard way, that you can’t just delete a tweet. Once it’s out there in the cyber universe, it’s out there forever. It only takes one person to copy and paste. The reaction to her thoughtless remarks was not kind.

The actual football game against Auburn and Florida State last night was one for the ages. Somehow, someway, the Seminoles came back and topped the Tigers 34-31. And in the middle of all the madness and lead changes, Winston, a 19-year-old freshman kept his cool and led his team to victory. In fact, Winston led the Seminoles to a perfect 14-0 season. He also took home the Heisman Trophy this year, making him the youngest player to ever do so.

Here’s a look at the quarterback’s post game reaction. He’s certainly fired up and happy, but there doesn’t seem to be a problem with his command of the English language.

  • Bobby Bowden’s Grandson Killed In Car Accident

T.J. Bowden, the grandson of Bobby Bowden, died recently along with a friend, from a car accident. He was a recent graduate of Florida State University, where his grandfather, Bobby Bowden is known as the former legendary coach.

Bobby Bowden’s grandson was one of two men that were killed when their car flipped over into a ditch off of a central Florida road.

T.J Bowden was 23-years-old, and while him and one of his friends died in the crash, a third passenger in the car was able to be rescued.

In a statement issued from T.J.’s grandfather, Bobby Bowden said “Our whole family had just celebrated Christmas together in Panama City, as well as celebrated T.J.’s graduation from Florida State just three weeks ago. We will cherish those last memories together with T.J. forever.”

T.J. is the son of Jeff Bowden, who has asked everyone to keep their family in their prayers. A trash collector was the one who reported the accident, and found the submerged car at 7:47 a.m. on Thursday. The car was not visible from the road, and at first, the sheriff’s office dive team was not able to find any survivors.

Several hours later, the dive team and paramedics heard noises coming from the car, and were able to rescue Lewis Edwards, the only survivor of the crash, and found the other two bodies afterwards.

The crash is still being investigated, and while the cause is unknown, the sheriff’s office is reporting that alcohol may have been a factor. The car crashed through a fence, went down an embankment and came to a rest upside down in the water, from what can be determined from the way the car ended up in the water.

Bobby Bowden was a coach for Florida State for many years, an span of time that stretched from 1976 to 2009. He holds the Division I record for career wins and bowl victories and won two national championships.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Bobby Bowden has lost a grandson to a car accident, and in 2004, Bowden Madden, his 15-year-old grandson, and former son-in-law, were killed when their car was hit by a utility truck.

  • Montae Nicholson, A Four-Star Safety, Commits To Michigan State

As if the Spartan defense was not good enough this year, Michigan State has gained another star for their team next year.

Montae Nicholson is a four-star recruit from Pennsylvania, and as the No.1 prospect in his home state, it is a big gain for the Michigan State Spartans.

Coming off of one of their best seasons in many years, this is big news for the Spartans. Nicholson had plenty of other offers from some of the top schools including Pittsburgh, Oregon, Florida State, and Virginia Tech.

It certainly says something about the recent reputation of the Spartan defense, and the way the Spartans performed this year, when a player chooses Michigan State over Florida State.

Florida State is a team that is being predicted to win the national championship, and has the recent Heisman Trophy winner with Jameis Winston.

Montae Nicholson made the announcement at his school on Thursday, and to the surprise of many people, he made the verbal commitment to be a Spartan. He is expected to official sign with the team in February.

Nicholson is a four-star safety by Scout.com, while he has also played cornerback, and is open to the possibility of playing wide receiver for Michigan State. He is ranked as the No. 21 safety in the country, and the No. 4 player overall in Pennsylvania by Scout.

Brian Dohn, a recruiting analyst for Scout.com spoke highly of the young player when saying “Nicholson is athletic and strong. He can cover sideline to sideline and has good ball skills. At The Opening over the summer, he showed good cover skills and the ability to break on the ball, and his ability to close is a big asset.”

He will join an already outstanding defense that easily beat Michigan earlier this year, and prevented them from scoring a touchdown. The Spartans also beat Ohio State, removing them from national championship consideration, and sent the Spartans to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1988.

At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Montae Nicholson is set to be one of the best in the 2014 recruiting class. The Rose Bowl berth for the Spartans was a nice bonus, but he said it was not the deciding factor. The Spartans will meet Stanford for the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

  • Johnny Manziel Humbly Passes Heisman Trophy Torch To Jameis Winston, Gives Advice To Young Star

Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy last year, and while he made it as one of the top 6 finalists, Jameis Winston won this year’s award in one of the biggest landslides in the history of the award.

Winston had a commanding lead, and as the quarterback of the No.1 team in the nation, he was predicted by everyone to win the award.

While he has been criticized for some of his off-the-field antics throughout his career, while at the same time being viewed as a celebrity in some ways.

In this year’s presentation of the Heisman Trophy, Johnny Manziel had to sit and watch as Jameis Winston accepted the much-deserved award.

It has been a couple of historic years in Heisman history, as Manziel became the first freshman to win the award, and now Winston has become the second. Jameis Winston is the quarterback of the top-ranked Florida State Seminoles

As someone who knows what it is like to win the award, and how it can have an effect on a player, Johnny Football had some words of advice for the young quarterback, and other young stars as they begin to enter the spotlight.

Speaking toward the future generation of college football stars, he said “Live it up. Enjoy it. Continue to be yourself, and don’t let anybody change you. You’re going to have to adapt to how life is going to be after this.”

In addition to Johnny Manziel and Jameis Winston, Andre Williams, Jordan Lynch, Tre Mason, and AJ McCarron were all among the top 6 players competing for the award.

The man who has become known as simply “Johnny Football” by fans all over the country did not have the success with the Texas A&M Aggies that he would have liked, and as a result they are stuck playing against Duke in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia on December 31. A list of the full college bowl schedule can be seen here.

Like Johnny Manziel and a few others that have come before him, Jameis Winston also faced some troubles that were not football related when he was accused of raping another student in an incident that occurred in December of 2012. The investigation was brought to the attention of the media recently, although he was not charged with the crime.

As a third-year junior, Johnny Manziel can declare for the draft after this season, and it would be a huge surprise if he doesn’t. He will be one of the most scrutinized players going into the draft, and whether his wild style of play is able to translate into the professional league will also be put into question.

  • Heisman Finalists: The Final Six Candidates Have Been Announced

Typically at this stage of the Heisman race, the amount of players eligible to win the award is narrowed down to five. However, this year, for the second time in history, there are six Heisman finalists to close out a very exciting year in college football.

The Heisman Trophy is awarded to the most impressive player in college football, and there are several players attempting to make the case that they are the best this year.

As a result, it was too hard for the committee to narrow the finalists down to five, and the top 6 are filled with top players from the SEC, and two players that will be seen in the national championship. It is the second time in history that there are six finalists, and the first time since it happened in 1994.

The six finalists for the Heisman Trophy are Jameis Winston, AJ McCarron, Johnny Manziel, Andre Williams, Tre Mason, and Jordan Lynch. As usual, the Heisman finalists have been narrowed down to primarily quarterbacks, along with two running backs.

The college bowl schedule was also released today, letting all of the teams and fans know where the teams would be heading during the off-season, and when the games would be played.

Andre Williams, who is talked about less than any of the others, plays for Boston College. He ran for 2,102 yards, and 17 touchdowns, including racking up 200 or more yards five times during this season.

Northern Illinois continued to make their case for a BCS bowl behind the play of Jordan Lynch, but fell short and was not able to defeat Bowling Green. However, Lynch has been impressive throughout the season and threw for 2,676 yards and 23 touchdowns, and ran for another 1,881 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also finished seventh in the Heisman voting last year.

Tre Mason has been able to make his case for the Heisman over the past couple of games especially, helping his Auburn Tigers defeat Alabama in the Iron Bowl, and then gave a very impressive performance against Missouri in the SEC Championship Game, running for 304 yards, and scoring 3 touchdowns.

Mason has not had the attention on him as much as some of the others this season, and was somewhat in disbelief when he heard the news. Upon hearing he was invited, he said “For me to be invited to the Heisman ceremony, I am honored and blessed. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. This is an honor for all of them also.”

Jameis Winston is the leading contender for the Heisman Trophy, as the quarterback of a Florida State team that has demolished their competition throughout the season. He is also heading to the BCS National Championship with a record of 13-0, easily handling their opponents throughout the entire sesaon.

Winston ranks first in the NCAA in passing efficiency, passing yards per attempt and set the NCAA record for passing touchdowns by a freshman. He was also investigated for sexual assault recently for an incident that occurred almost a year go, and while he was not charged with anything, it has been a case that has been getting him a lot of attention recently. Of course, off the field drama is no stranger to Heisman hopefuls, with Reggie Bush and Cam Newton both experiencing similar situations in recent years.

Joining Winston are two of the top quarterbacks in the SEC, AJ McCarron of Alabama, and Johnny Manziel from Texas A&M, who won the award last year. Johnny Manziel was very impressive during the first part of the season, including almost beating Alabama, and leading a blowout against Vanderbilt. However, his Aggies lost the last few games of the season, hurting his chances of winning the award.

AJ McCarron has 2 national championships already in the past three years, and much of the country is well aware of what has been done at Alabama already in the past 3 years. However, after their loss to Auburn, they will not be heading to the national championship this year. Despite his success with the team, this is the first time that McCarron has been invited as one of the Heisman finalists.

After the six Heisman finalists have been announced, it is hard to know who will come away with the award for sure, although Jameis Winston has certainly been the favorite recently. His Florida State Seminoles will be playing against the Auburn Tigers in the BCS National Championship on January 6th in Pasadena, California.

  • Jameis Winston is Thankful the Sexual Assault Investigation is Over

It’s back to business as usual for Florida State star quarterback Jameis Winston now that he has been cleared in a sexual assault investigation. Winston, a redshirt freshman at FSU who looks to be a lock for the Heisman trophy, was first named in a sexual assault investigation almost a year ago. Florida state attorney Willie Meggs announced the decision not to charge Winston during a press conference yesterday.

“We have a duty as prosecutors to only file…charges if we have a reasonable likelihood of a conviction,” Meggs said. “We did not feel we could meet that burden.” While Winston’s DNA was found on the accuser’s shorts and underwear, DNA from another source was also found, but never identified. Meggs told reporters that it was a “logical conclusion” that the accuser had sex with more than one person on the night in question.

While some people are suspicious of the timing of the case being dropped against Winston–just days before the ACC Championship Game and a little over a week before the Heisman ceremony–Meggs promises those events have nothing to do with the case. The “timing [of the case] has not been driven by Heisman demands or a football schedule,” Meggs said. The state attorney did say that the case had taken longer to resolve than it should have because the victim wasn’t cooperative.

Jameis Winston, who has been silent about the case since it started making rounds, released a statement last night regarding the situation:

“I want to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for standing by me during a difficult time,” Winston said. “I also want to thank the State Attorney’s Office for examining all the facts and reaching a decision in a conclusive manner. it’s been difficult to stay silent through this process, but I never lost faith in the truth and in who I am. I’m very relieved I’ll be able to continue my education at Florida State and I’m excited I can now get back to helping our team achieve its goals.”

Even though many college football fans are thrilled that Winston was cleared in the investigation, many folks on Twitter think this is just another situation of a guy getting off scot-free because he is a popular athlete.

  • Jameis Winston Will Not Be Charged In Sexual Assault Case

Jameis Winston has been under fire recently for allegedly raping a young woman who accused him of the assault, which happened about a year ago. The investigation has finally come to a close, and Winston will not be charged in the case of sexual assault.

It appears that there was simply not enough evidence to charge the 19-year-old Heisman candidate and one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Jameis Winston, the quarterback for Florida State, is likely headed for the BCS National Championship.

Winston would have faced charges of sexual battery, although there is not enough evidence to charge him in the case. William Meggs, the state attorney for Florida’s Second Judicial Court, said of the case “We have a duty as prosecutors to determine if each case has a reasonable likelihood of conviction. After reviewing the facts in this case, we do not feel that we can reach those burdens.”

While the fact that he is a superstar athlete could have helped his case, the state attorney said that they try to treat everyone the same, and they have a history of doing that. Evidence was collected at the time of the incident to suggest that Winston was involved, but he claims that he had consensual sex with the accuser.

It was reported last month that Jameis Winston was being investigated for sexual assault but the real question is, why would it take the police this long to accuse Winston of the crime? The report also detailed a description of a man that is much shorter than Winston, which could have also helped his case. He has denied the allegations to a crime that occurred on December 7th of 2012, and since he was not investigated until now, it seems to hard to link him to the case.

Jameis Winston has already won ACC player of the year, and as Florida State gets ready to play against Duke for the ACC title on Saturday, he will continue to make his case for the Heisman Trophy as well, given to the most outstanding player in college football. Of course, this is not the first time that a Heisman candidate has been under fire for doing something negative off the field, and just in the past few years, Reggie Bush and Cam Newton received similar attention.

Throughout the investigation, Jameis Winston had refused to comment on the situation, and has remained the starting quarterback for the Seminoles.

  • Bowl Projections: The Top Teams Are Lining Up, But Which Match-Ups Are Likely?

There has been much controversy over the BCS in recent years, and throughout this season especially. As Alabama has won the BCS title game for the past two years, and remained at the No.1 spot for much of this year, the idea of them playing for the championship again seemed almost inevitable, but after last weekend, things have altered drastically.

It is still hard to speculate over much of the bowl projections as things will not be final until after the results are in after this coming Saturday, but many experts are at it already, predicting where each of the top teams will be headed.

The loss that Alabama endured in the final seconds of the Iron Bowl on Saturday severely hurt them in the BCS standings, and knocked them out of the title game, in a huge upset that Auburn delivered to the two-time defending champions.

While rivalry week usually works to shake things up a little bit, the games that were played out this past Saturday certainly changed things for several teams, but most importantly Alabama.

The new national championship match-up between Ohio State and Florida State is also a dream for college sports fans, and to be able to see two undefeated programs play will certainly be excting. In addtiion, it could be the first time that the SEC has been left out of the national championship in several years.

The BCS standings saw a new No.1 team this week, and due to Alabama’s loss, Florida State moved up, while it is currently looking like the Seminoles will play Ohio State in the national championship. However, the Auburn Tigers put up a strong fight against Alabama, and if they are to win the SEC championship, some people are arguing that they may have a chance to play in the title game over Ohio State.

While Johnny Manziel impressed fans and commentators throughout this season, his Texas A&M Aggies are currently on a 2-game losing streak, which has dropped them several spots in the rankings.

Despite almost beating Alabama and several impressive performances, the Aggies are only projected to play against Iowa as it stands right now. Texas A&M was originally projected to play against UCF in the Sugar Bowl, but since they have faltered recently, things are looking much worse for Johnny Manziel and The Aggies.

Michigan State is set to play against Stanford in the Rose Bowl against Stanford, and the Crimson Tide has dropped to the Orange Bowl where they are set to play against Clemson. Meanwhile, despite Auburn’s victory over Alabama, they are only predicted to go to the Sugar Bowl, with UCF as their opponent, a game that would heavily favor the Tigers.

As the season comes to an end, fans can all get excited over the update bowl projections, and seeing where their favorite teams might head. Of course, there will be much debate over whether certain teams deserve to go to better bowls, and a variety of other scenarios, as they continue to play out in the minds of fans all over the country.

Things are certainly getting interesting for Ohio State and Auburn as the teams head into their conference championships.

  • BCS Standings: Things Are Shaping Up As The Season Comes To A Close

The BCS standings have been released, and with only one more week to go in the season, things are finally starting to fall into place. After an incredibly dramatic finish between Alabama and Auburn, this week’s BCS standings also feature a new #1 team for the first time in a long time.

The bowl games are shaping up to have quite the excitement in the coming weeks, with top teams losing and a variety of scenarios possible.

The BCS standings have been significantly changing in recent weeks and with Auburn’s big win over Alabama, the top team that has won the past two national championships may have been taken out of the running for this year’s title game.

For the first time in a long time, a new team is sitting at the #1 spot, and the new team is Florida State. Florida State has been dominant throughotu the season, and looks to be headed to the national championship shortly.

The bowl projections, and where teams will be headed is narrowing down slowly, but the fate of several teams around the country will be determined shortly. The conference championships are coming up next weekend, and after Saturday’s games play out, college football fans will have a better idea of where their favorite teams will be headed during the bowl games.

Here is a full list of this week’s standings.

    (image)

Ohio State is also closely behind now at the #2 spot, however they have to get past a tough Michigan State team in order to make the title, and that could be a difficult task to overcome. If Michigan State is to win the Big Ten Championship Game against Ohio State, then they would be headed to the Rose Bowl for the first time in many years. After a hard fought season, a Rose Bowl berth for the Spartans is something that they could look forward to, and are deserving of the game. Michigan State’s only loss this season is to Notre Dame, an out of conference game, and anyone who saw the game would argue that MSU should have won the game if it were not for the way the game was officiated.

Even if Ohio State were to win, some people feel that the SEC is such a strong conference that Alabama, Auburn, or possibly even Missouri might be more deserving of a shot at the title. Missouri’s coach Gary Pinkel said, for example, “Any one-loss team in the SEC (should be considered) just because of the strength of schedule. Hopefully that will be taken into consideration.”

Alabama has been one of the top teams for several years, and as the SEC continues to dominate, especially in last week’s BCS standings, it is not hard to understand the argument that is being made for the top-ranked SEC teams, and their chances of going to the title game.

With the current BCS standings, it seems that Florida State has their spot in the title game secured, however on Ohio State’s end, things are a bit different. Ohio State barely beat a struggling Michigan team over the weekend, and after Auburn’s upset, they might have what it takes to win the SEC championship game, and proceed on to the national championship if Ohio State were to lose especially.

The fate of the BCS standings is coming down to the final week, and the results of the the Big Ten Championship and the SEC Championship will have a big impact on who goes to the BCS Championship, depending on who wins, and how each team plays.

  • BCS Standings: Top 3 Unchanged, SEC Continues To Dominate

The BCS standings have been updated yet again, and without a change in the top 3 spots, Alabama and Florida State continue to show that they are the top two teams in the nation.

However, Ohio State is making their case as well, and with big games coming up against Michigan and Michigan State, they have a chance at the championship game as well.

The BCS standings have been changing a lot lately, and it was looking like Oregon or Baylor might even have a chance at the national championship with impressive wins in the next couple of weeks, but after they both lost on Saturday, it is not looking good for either of them.

Alabama and Florida State have been dominating their opponents all year, and it seems to be set for them to play in the championship, but as the season comes to an end, it is hard to know what will happen.

Auburn and Missouri are also in the top 5, as the SEC has continued to dominate once again this year. South Carolina and Texas A&M could easily shake things up as well during rivalry week, as they have big games against Clemson and Missouri, respectively.

While Alabama and Florida State are still undefeated with 11-0 records, Ohio State is right up there with them, and will have an interesting meeting with Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship. If Michigan State wins, they will go to the Rose Bowl, something that has not happened for the Spartans in a long time, who is undefeated in the Big Ten this year.

However, if Ohio State wins, and beats Michigan to close out the season next week, they will likely play for the National Championship. Jerry Palm, a BCS analyst said that if Alabama or Florida State are to slip up, then Ohio State would move up into the top spot, but speaking on the likelihood of Missouri or Auburn jumping into the equation, he said “The coaches in particular are not going to allow an undefeated to not play for the title. They understand how hard it is to finish unbeaten. It hasn’t happened yet in the BCS and there is no reason to think it would this year.

Almost anything is likely to happen with the top 5 teams in the BCS standings as the season comes to a close, but the top 3 teams continue to give themselves more separation. Auburn and Missouri sit at #4 and #5, and a SEC championship win could potentially send either of them to the championship.

The bowl projections are being set up with all sorts of scenarios already, and what happens in the SEC will likely be the deciding factor, since the SEC currently 3 teams in the top 5.

Does anyone have any big predictions? What will happen once this wild season finally comes to a close? Discuss.

As the top teams around the league head into rivalry week, anything is likely to happen with the BCS standings, and they all better play their best if they want to have a chance to play in the national championship.

  • Bowl Projections: Which Match-Ups Are Likely?

Well, we all know that Alabama will be playing in the championship yet again, but what about everyone else? The bowl projections have been released, and as the BCS continues to be shaken up week to week, other than the top two spots, it is hard to keep track of what might happen.

The one thing that seems almost definite is the fact that Florida State, who has completely dominated almost every opponent all year, will be the one to play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the national championship.

The national championship is supposed to be a game between the top two teams in the nation, and that is certainly what it would be with these two programs, who are both undefeated after 11 weeks, and other than Alabama’s game with Texas A&M, they have both handled each opponent fairly easily throughout the season.

With still a few more weeks to go, things could certainly change, but with the way it is looking right now, fans are able to take a look at where their favorite teams might be headed. Georgia, who made an incredible comeback on Saturday, but lost on a hail mary, was almost able to knock off Auburn, which could have changed things a bit, and USC also knocked off Stanford, letting Oregon comfortably stay at the top of the Pac-12 standings.

However, one thing that could shake things up is how Michigan State finishes, and if they are able to somehow beat Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game, then those two teams would switch places. Currently, Ohio State is set to head to the Rose Bowl to play against a tough Oregon team led by Marcus Mariotta, and Michigan State will face off against Taj Boyd’s Clemson.

Additionally, the Fiesta Bowl will likely host Baylor against Fresno State, and the Sugar Bowl would play host to Texas A&M and UCF.

The bowl predictions are now out, and as the season comes to a close shortly, the fates will soon be sealed for each of the top college football teams, and how they will finish in the BCS rankings.

  • Jameis Winston is Investigated for Sexual Assault

It has been announced that America’s favorite squinting college quarterback is being investigated for sexual assault stemming from a report that was filed nearly a year ago. Winston denies the allegations and so far, no charges have been filed against him. Winston is expected to continue playing for the time being.

According to a police report that was filed with the Tallahassee Police Department, someone was sexually assaulted on December 7 of last year. Per the description of the assailant, the suspect is a black male between 5’9″ and 5’11” and weighs around 240 pounds. While the Tallahassee police haven’t said why they never pursued the case against Winston, the description of the suspect probably has something to do with that. Jameis Winston is 6’4″ and 235 pounds, which is considerably taller than the 5’9″ to 5’11” mentioned. Not to mention, someone of that height weighing around 240 pounds would have a very different body type than Winston.

Winston has retained attorney Tim Jansen, who says he is confused why the case reopened. “This case has been going on for over a year. The case was basically closed and we’re not sure why it’s opened up,” Jansen said. “We’ve been cooperating with the law enforcement agencies and we’re hoping to get a quick resolution in favor of Mr. Winston.”

Florida State issued a statement regarding Jameis Winston and the sexual battery charges:

“We are aware of a matter that was investigated by the Tallahassee Police Department almost a year ago. Because the investigation has not been closed by TPD, we cannot comment further at this time. We look forward to a speedy resolution of the issue. There is no change in Jameis Winston’s status. Coach Fisher and Jameis will be answering questions about football only until there is a resolution.”

Now many people are wondering what will become of Florida State’s season if Winston is eventually charged and found guilty. Right now, FSU is in an excellent position to go to and possibly win the BCS Championship Game, plus Winston is leading ESPN’s Heisman Watch Poll. If the issue isn’t wrapped up until after the season is over, many are wondering whether FSU will be forced to vacate wins if Winston is found guilty.

Fans of Jameis Winston–and there are many–are outraged that the police investigation has been brought up.

  • Jameis Winston Investigated for Sexual Assault

Florida State University’s freshmen quarterback is currently being investigated for a sexual assault case filed with the Tallahassee Police Department back on December 7th, 2012. This 11-month-old case reopened Wednesday when TMZ claimed that Winston “is indeed the suspect,” even though the official TPD report describes the perpetrator as 5’11”, compared to Winston’s 6’4″ frame.

Winston’s attorney confirmed with the Tallahassee Democrat that he is representing Jameis in this investigation, although he says this case has been “basically closed” since February and no one is sure why it’s been reopened. Could it be that the 19-year-old athlete is now ranked #2 in country for passing efficiency and is the frontrunner for the Heisman trophy? It seems it was only a matter of time before the media began digging around for dirt on this emerging star. Jameis supporters have already taken to twitter to call out TMZ on their lack of factual evidence:

Despite the claim, no official charges have been filed. The FSU Athletic Department was forced to release an official statement earlier clarifying that “there is no change in Winston’s status” on the team following the allegations. It looks like Winston will be throwing completions for Florida State for a long time coming.

  • BCS Standings: Another Switcheroo at the #2 Spot

Another week, more BCS drama. The updated BCS standings were released last night. We didn’t see a lot of movement within the Top 10, but Florida State and Oregon did switch places. Again.

Oregon had a BYE week last week and FSU played–and dominated–Miami, who was undefeated and ranked in the Top 10 before facing the Seminoles in Tallahassee. Not only did Florida State beat then #7 Miami 41-14, the Seminoles didn’t let the Hurricanes score at all in the second half, once again proving how dominant they are on both sides of the ball.

Check out the updated BCS standings below.

    (image)

Aside from FSU and Oregon switching places, Miami dropped out of the Top 10 down to the #11 spot, which allowed Clemson, Missouri and Auburn to all move up. Outside of the Top 10, the South Carolina Gamecocks moved from #14 to #12 after thoroughly thrashing Mississippi State at home. Michigan State also moved from #22 to #17 after beating Michigan 29-6.

How did your favorite team fare this week? Respond below.

With all of the switcheroos each week, fans can’t help but speculate where Florida State and Oregon will end up should both teams win out. Assuming Alabama wins out as well and retains their first place ranking and slot in the BCS Championship Game, it looks like Oregon will finish up at #2 based on the remaining SOS. They have #5 Stanford remaining on their schedule, while FSU’s toughest remaining opponent is an unranked Florida that is having a terrible season with a 4-4 record so far.

Until the four-team playoff goes into effect for the 2014-2015 season, this shows just how important it is for teams like FSU that play in weaker conferences to schedule stronger OOC opponents.
