  • Abby Wambach Says Players Not Behind Coach’s Firing

After U.S women’s national team (USWNT) coach Tom Sermanni was unexpectedly fired, many, including Sermanni, were searching for answers on why he was handed his pink slip after the USWNT beat China in an exhibition game in Denver on Sunday

USWNT forward Abby Wambach spoke out on Tuesday about Sermanni’s firing, saying players were not behind it.

Not long after their first practice without Sermanni as coach Wambach said, ”Everybody out there who may think the players made this happen, none of it’s true.”

It seems Sermanni’s soccer philosophy didn’t seem to match up with the U.S. Soccer Federation’s philosophy, according to Wambach.

”That’s not anyone’s fault. That’s the hard part. I wish he was a jerk in some ways because it would be easier. But that’s just not the case. He’s such a good guy. He treated us all with the utmost respect and we couldn’t wish him nothing but the best of luck,” said Wambach.

Wambach doesn’t believe U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati firing Sermanni was a hasty decision.

”Every coach that comes on has their own philosophy and stamp that they want to put on the game. For us, we’re very American, attack-oriented, score goals until the 95th minute. That’s how we are. I think that maybe the direction of the team wasn’t going in the direction the federation had hoped, not only the Algarve result, but I think just in general,” said Wambach.

The 2012 FIFA women’s world player of the year said Sermanni spoke with the team after he was fired. Said Wambach, ”It takes a lot of courage to get up there and do what he did.”

Wambach added, ”The hard part is Tom is such an amazing guy and he is so classy and the way he handled himself even after being told he was being let go was maybe some of the best people experience I’ve ever seen. He handled himself with the utmost respect, wished us the very best. He did the very best that he could. He’s brought us along for these last 15 months to here. We love and care for him so much and we appreciate everything that has happened.”

Hope Solo added that if the players had anything to do with Sermanni getting fired, it was that they didn’t perform better in the Algarve Cup in Portugal last month.

Solo said, ”We didn’t play our best soccer in Portugal. We came in seventh place. That’s not good enough for this team. At the end of the day, we failed Tom. We didn’t put together a great tournament.”

The goalkeeper added that it had been ”a somber couple of days. It’s been tough. This is our first training without Tom here. Anytime you go through change it’s going to be hard. But through the thick and the toughest of times, this team always bounces back. We still have a good 15 months before the World Cup and I have no doubt we’re going to be on top of our game next summer.”

Fans took to Twitter to congratulate the players on speaking out, while others hope they’re telling the truth, and some just don’t trust what they say, especially Wambach, at all.

Jill Ellis has been appointed as the interim coach for the USWNT.

  • Note to Tardy Boss Gets Employee Fired

Note to Tardy Boss Gets Employee Fired

“Hey boss, learn to be on time!” said one smart man who definitely has the balls to stand up to lousy management.

One employee’s note to his manager has just cost him his job.

Joe Blumm of Michigan was fired Thursday after posting a rather pissed-off note to the front door of his job.

Blumm-who has worked for the local BP gas station the past three years-told CNN that he was forced to work night shift even after putting in a request to be off.

When his manager failed to show up to relieve him, Blumm decided it was the last straw.

“I had enough of that unprofessional atmosphere, having to deal with that tardiness and have it come down on me,” Blumm told CNN.

    The note reads as follows:

“Hey boss, learn to be on time or at least communicate when you are going to be late. One hour with no phone call is unacceptable. As you can see, the doors are locked. I went home. Fire me if you must, but realize I walked due to your negligence.”

The third shift worker said it was a message only intended for his boss, but once it hit Reddit.com, he became a little bit nervous at first.

Now, it seems Blumm is pretty pleased that his message has reached so many people.

He may have just become the voice for “low-paid employees who get the short end of the stick” and don’t have enough courage to stick up for themselves when being treated unfairly.

Blumm’s manager admitted being tardy, but stresses that her employee failed to contact her before locking up the store.

She claims that she fired Blumm for other reasons and not because of the angry note.

At this point, Blumm is just hoping to land a new job with better pay and more respect.

“I would love to have a different job,” Blumm said. “Something a little bit higher paying I would hope.”

  • Deion Sanders Fired From Prep Academy, Again

“Neon” Deion Sanders has been fired, again.

Sanders co-founded Prime Prep Academy in the Dallas-area in 2012, and for the second time this year, Prime Time himself has been fired. This time it has affected the students and players.

While Sanders was being told to leave by security, about 75 students and players walked out of class.

On Tuesday, while the Dallas County Deputy Constable kept Sanders at bay in the school’s parking lot, Sanders said, “I never dreamed this. I just dreamed of having the best academic and athletic institution in the country, and we are going to have it. We are going to have it…we just have to get this mess out.”

The mess Sanders is referring to is the bitter power struggle he and Prime Prep Board President T. Chris Lewis are facing against the administrators. The same administrators who fired Sanders.

Lewis told the Dallas Morning News, “I did not approve this dismissal nor would I have made that decision. I would imagine some of the board members would want to know the rationale for this firing.”

“This is nonsense. We are sick of it. The kids don’t deserve it. Over-paid, under-qualified administrators never worked in a school in their life. Total chaos. We have a formula to restore what the was the dream at Prime Prep,” said Sanders.

Right now the school is being run by Prime Prep’s general counsel, Dallas attorney Kimberly Carlisle, who took over after co-founder and former CEO and Executive Director D. L. Wallace resigned on November 21, 2013.

Wallace resigned just a day after WFAA-TV questioned him about using school operating funds to make some mystery rent payments.

Carlisle also seems to have a conflict of interest in running the school. According to Sanders, Carlisle’s mother is the cater for Prime Prep Academy.

A meeting will be held this Friday and Sanders hopes the Board of Directors will fire the current administrators. Sanders said, “Right now they are trying to overthrow the board and do everything that is not legal and lawful. It’s unbelievable.”

And like so many, Sanders took to his Twitter to make some cryptic and motivational comments about what is going on.

Sanders has found a new mantra apparently, which he has tweeted out at least four times today.

  • Pizza Hut Manager Fired For Not Opening on Holiday

A former employee of Pizza Hut has come forward with information regarding his dismissal. Tony Rohr, from South Bend, Indiana, was fired for his refusal to open the restaurant on Thanksgiving Day. Two weeks ago, Rohr discovered that Franchise Management Investors, the franchise owner, insisted on opening the restaurant on Thanksgiving to remain competitive, despite the fact that it has never been opened on a holiday before. “I said, ‘Why can’t we be the people who say we care about our employees? I don’t think it’s right, and I don’t want to make anyone work on Thanksgiving,’” he told ABC News. Therefore, the company attempted to force his resignation.

Rohr said, “My area coach told me the director of operations needed me to write a letter of resignation. I was like, ‘Well, being fired and resigning are two very different things and I’m not going to do that.’ So I wrote a different letter explaining my position on the situation and handed it in and left.” Though, Chuck Kayser, area coach of Franchise Management Investors, persistently maintains that Rohr was never actually fired. “Tony was never fired. He quit his position. I didn’t want him to quit, but he chose his own path. He was asked to put it in paper; that’s just a standard corporate procedure. I wanted Tony to stay, and have offered him his job back three times already,” he explained.

In one part of the letter, he stated: “I am not quitting. I do not resign, however I accept that the refusal to comply with this greedy, immoral request means the end of my tenure with this company. I hope you realize that it’s the people at the bottom of the totem pole that make your life possible.”

The story made it to local news channels and sparked controversy among the public. The Pizza Hut Facebook page was flooded by angry commentators, but they responded with the following statement. “We feel strongly that the situation involving our independent franchisee and the local store manager could and should have been avoided. We fully respect an employee’s right to not work on a holiday, which is why the vast majority of Pizza Huts in America are closed on Thanksgiving. As a result, we strongly recommended that the local franchisee reinstate the store manager and they have agreed. We look forward to them welcoming Tony back to the team.”

Yet, the restaurant still opened today. As of late on Wednesday, Rohr remained undecided on whether or not he would return to work at the restaurant. “Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only two days that they’re closed in the whole year, and they’re the only two days that those people are guaranteed to have off and spend it with their families,” he said.

  • Officer Fired For Shooting At Squirrel

Officer Fired For Shooting At Squirrel

A Tennesee police officer has been fired from his job for his encounter with a squirrel, which–for the squirrel– turned out to be deadly. The incident took place at a Dollar General store in Johnson County, Tennesee. Officer Jody Putnam, formerly of the Mountain City Police Force, was on duty when he found that at a Dollar General store, the employees were needing help with a squirrel. After Putnam’s arrival, it was discovered that a squirrel had somehow found its way inside the Dollar General store.

According to the police department records, Putman began firing his gun inside the store in attempt to get rid of the squirrel. As if gun shots were not frightening enough, Putnam then began spraying pepper spray at the squirrel. Unfortunately for patrons, the pepper spray was so intense that they too were affected by it and had to exit the Dollar General. Carl Duffield, the owner of the property, commented on the incident:

“Shooting back there, of course that should not have been. That should not have happened. Then they began to spray it with mace and pepper spray. There was a lot of people that came out […] and they were coughing and a-hacking. It was comical, but I’m sure they didn’t feel that way, the customers that came out.”

And to make matters worse, according to police procedure, Putnam was supposed to make a written report after using his gun, as all officers are required to submit a report to a supervisor whenever shots are fired. Putnam was said to have refused completing and submitting a report. Lawrence Keeble, the mayor of Mountain City, read the legal forms stating the reason for Putnam’s termination of employment, which was violation of the police department’s policy. Putnam was fired from the force on October 2nd of 2013.

  • Fired Walmart Worker Offered Job Back

Fired Walmart Worker Offered Job Back

Kristopher Oswald, an employee at a Michigan Walmart, was fired from his job after defending a woman who was apparently being attacked in the parking lot. Now, after reviewing the case and realizing his intentions were good, the company has offered Oswald his job back.

“The last thing I expected was to not have a job,” Oswald said. “I don’t even know what to put on an application about all of this. How do I say this ended?”

Oswald described the incident saying he was taking his break at around 2:30 a.m. in his car when he heard a woman screaming. He saw a man hanging onto the hood of the woman’s car. He first thought they were simply goofing off, but then realized the woman was actually in danger when the man turned on him, began attacking him, and said “I’m going to kill you!”. Just as he thought he may have things under control, two other men jumped him from behind. Luckily, the Livingston County Sheriff deputies made it in time to break the fight up before it escalated more than it already had.

Oswald never expected to lose his job for being a good Samaritan. However, that is exactly what happened. He received termination papers that read: “after a violation of company policy on his lunch break, it was determined to end his temporary assignment”.

After the story gained national attention, Walmart has offered Oswald his job back, saying his intentions “were good”.

Now, Oswald has to make the decision of whether or not to take his job back. When asked if he was going to accept the offer, he sighed and said he wasn’t sure. However, he is sure about one thing, and that is that he “will always do the right thing”.

  • Anti-Ketchup Vendor Fired For Discriminating Taste

Charley Marcuse was known as the Detroit Tiger’s hot dog vendor for 15 years. Possibly Heinz’s worst enemy, he was a crooner who advertised at Comerica Park in a baritone voice, and has a strict dietary belief system he imposed on his customers; mustard only.

    (image)

Last Thursday, the Inquisitr reported that Marcuse was fired last week by Sportservice, the Detroit Tigers’ concession company. Many fans thought it was because he busted out with a Pavarotti inspired operatic voice (which banned him from singing back in 2004), but Detroit News reported that it was because of his strong opinions on what was permissible and outlawed on a hot dog.

    (image)

“Marcuse, at the ballpark and on Twitter, has been a strong crusader for only putting mustard on a frank. And some fans thought he got combative when they asked for ketchup. There were complaints filed.” The Detroit News said. Sportservice declined to state the reasoning behind Marcuse’s firing. Marcuse said to the Detroit News that, “It was general employee conduct.”

“Only barbarians enjoy ketchup on hot dogs, so Marcuse is certainly to be admired for being against ketchup. But he was working in the customer service business, after all, and the customer is always right-even a customer so coarse to demand ketchup on a hot dog,” Deadspin reported.

“I think all the fuss is as ridiculous as anybody else. I’d much rather be working the ballgame tomorrow night.” Marcuse said.

Marcuse loved to converse with many people at the stadium, but many fans wished he wouldn’t. A common critique that he often faced was that he took himself way too seriously.

“How seriously can you take yourself selling hot dogs? I am just a hot dog man. It’s a job I love that I would like to keep doing.”

On Charley Marcsue’s website, the first (and trademarked) line reads, “There is no ketchup in baseball!” Apparently, Marcuse has his own line of what he believes to be “the finest mustard”, a recipe he launched back in June 2008.

Marcuse has filed a grievance, but a hearing has been yet to be scheduled.

America loves to stuff its gullet with 20 billion hotdogs a year.

  • Fired: Radio Hosts Made Fun of Athlete With ALS

Modern sports radio often walks a fine line between opinionated and offensive. Three radio sports talk hosts who crossed that line this week have been fired after airing a skit that made light of a former NFL player with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

The hosts of Atlants 790 The Zone’s sports talk show Mayhem in the AM were fired after making fun of former NFL safety Steve Gleason. Program hosts Steak Shapiro, Chris Dimino, and Nick Cellini aired a “humorous” segment on Monday in which “Gleason,” who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2011, called into the radio show. As Gleason cannot speak without the aid of a synthetic voice, he was parodied in the segment with a robotic voice telling a knock-knock joke. The punchline was, “Smother me. Do me a favor.”

Gleason played as a safety for the New Orleans Saints from 2000 to 2007. He now runs Team Gleason, an organization dedicated to raising ALS awareness and providing services to those afflicted with ALS.

Rick Mack, the general manager of 790 The Zone issued a statement on the matter on Monday, apologizing specifically to Gleason and explaining that the hosts have been fired:

“We deeply regret the offensive programming that aired this morning on “Mayhem In The AM” on 790 The Zone, related to former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason and his battle with ALS. We suspended the three individuals involved immediately following their comments and have since terminated their employment. 790 The Zone, our owners, sponsors and partners in no way endorse or support this kind of content. We sincerely apologize to Mr. Gleason, his family and all those touched by ALS.”

Dimino has has also issued an apology on his Facebook page, referring to himself as a bully:

So where to begin. The obvious and rightful place is with an apology. And the reality of knowing that falls short…no matter what I say…is heartbreaking.

The sheer stupidity of trying to put this as a failed attempt at humor is not lost on me.

The words “Should have known better” mean nothing to me. And shouldn’t to you right now

I would like to though offer my apology. Knowing that it is everyone’s right not to accept it. Or even consider accepting it for now.

My apologies go out first to Steve Gleason and his family. The weight of what he and they are going through did not need to be made heavier or worse by the pure and straight insensitivity of my actions.

I also want to offer up my apologies to all who are not only dealing with ALS..but to those who are dealing with ANYTHING that has made themself or family and friends subject to the physical and emotional heartache of any debilitating disease or condition.

As a father of two girls, I put myself in a position that I have begged…pleaded..DEMANDED..they not put themselves in. That of the bully. The mean kid. The one who thinks what they say or do comes with no consequence. It does. It always does.

I have no illusion as to what 19 years on the radio…30 years of being a grown man..and most importantly almost 10 years of being a father..and what you build up in your name and reputation over those periods of time..should and does mean.

Now I know how quickly a stupid and worse than that non thinking moment can change all of it.

I hope I get a chance to prove this is not who I want to be. It was and is who “I am” today though. That much is not lost on me.

I have spent so long not trying to put other people in a bad place because of me. Today I failed miserably.

I’m very open to any and all dialogue as it pertains to the people I have hurt and disappointed. I’ve had that dialogue with myself..my wife and will with my kids.

Thanks for at least this much of your time

    Chris Dimino

Steak Shapiro has appeared on CNN to apologize, calling the radio segment “stupid” and “offensive.”

  • Teacher Fired Over Bikini Photo to Attend Graduation

Teachers across the U.S. have been fired for a variety of reasons, but modeling is not usually one of them.

This week, 26-year-old Olivia Sprauer told the Huffington Post that she was fired for her modeling bikini pics. She stated that she was called into the principal’s office on April 29, was shown one of her modeling photos, and was asked for her resignation.

Sprauer isn’t broken up about the firing, however, as she had planned to stop teaching at the end of the year and attend graduate school. She also stated that she will attend the high school’s graduation ceremony to see her students off.

Sprauer hasn’t performed in porn, though a few of her modeling photos are a bit more risque than just bikini pics. Her modeling page on the Model Mayhem website states that she loves being in front of the camera and loves being photographed. It also states that she is ok with a bit of nudity:

I am more than comfortable shooting TASTEFUL nudes for the right projects and look forward to hearing from photographers interested in capturing the perfect photograph!

Sprauer also has a Facebook page for her modeling persona filled with photos no one would expect from a high school teacher. She seems to be taking the job loss in stride, though, using her Twitter feed to have a laugh at all the attention she is now getting:

  • Cop Fired 8 Times Faces Arbitration

A Miami-Dade police officer who has been fired eight times from three different police departments may now be facing the end of his law enforcement career.

The Miami Herald is reporting that Opa-locka police Sgt. German Bosque attended an appeals hearing on Wednesday, where an arbitrator heard testimony to determine his fate as a police officer.

According to the Opa-locka police department, Bosque had left his police-issued AR-15 assault rifle with the father of his girlfriend, a violation of a 2008 settlement that allowed him to continue working as a police officer. The department is attempting to fire Bosque for the sixth time.

Bosque, who was fired in October, was defended at the hearing by the Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association, which argued that Bosque had left the gun in a locked warehouse that only he and his girlfriend’s father had access to. Bosque is hoping that, once again, he will be reinstated with back pay.

According to the Herald report, Bosque has been accused over the years of beating a handcuffed suspect, beating juveniles, hiding drugs, stealing from suspects, defying orders, lying, falsifying police reports, and calling in sick to take a vacation. He is currently under investigation for the alleged battery of a domestic dispute suspect.

  • Girl Scout Cookies: Mother Fired For Selling to Customers

Parents who pressure co-workers to buy fundraiser products for their child’s sports team or school band can make things awkward around the break room, but Girl Scout cookies are generally the welcome exception. Even so, one woman went a step further by offering the snacks to customers and has now been fired for the offense.

The local Fox affiliate in Washington D.C. is reporting that Tracy Lewis, an employee for a food service company at American University called Bon Appetit Management, has been fired for selling Girl Scout cookies at work.

Her former employer accuses her of selling Girl Scout cookies over-the-counter to customers. Lewis admitted to Fox that she kept the cookies “on a cart” and would sell them if customers asked, but she also stated that she did not solicit customers to buy them. She said that she had been doing this for three years.

Fox reported that Lewis had been working for various food service companies at American University for 28 years.

  • Bret Michaels Meltdown Follows Apprentice Firing

The first episode of reality TV show All-Star Celebrity Apprentice premiered this past Sunday, bringing back popular celebrities from past Celebrity Apprentice seasons. Celebrities such as Marilu Henner, Penn Jillette, and Dennis Rodman are now competing against one another for the affection of Donald Trump.

As is custom for an Apprentice show, one of the celebrities was unceremoniously dismissed by Trump at the end of the episode. Surprisingly, the first celebrity to go was none other than rocker Bret Michaels. Though Michaels had won the third season of Celebrity Apprentice, and was the only contestant to have won a past Apprentice season, Trump fired the star for a poor fundraising showing. Both Brande Roderick and La Toya Jackson were able to escape the boardroom at Michaels’ expense.

Before his appearance on the show, Michaels stated that some people though he was “crazy” to go back on the show after already winning. It’s a sentiment that even Trump expressed during the boardroom portion of the episode.

Radar Online is now reporting that Michaels took the firing extra hard. The report cites an unnamed “show insider” as saying that Michaels “was crying and totally distraught.”

  • Australian Miners Fired for Harlem Shake Video [REPORT]

According to one Australian mining outfit, doing the Harlem Shake on the job is a fireable offense.

ABC News is reporting that at least 15 miners at the Agnew Gold mine in Western Australia were canned after posting their own version of the Harlem Shake to YouTube. The 15 fired miners include participants in the video as well as those who simply watched it take place.

According to Barminco, the company that runs the mine, the Harlem Shake constituted at safety hazard and did not represent the company’s “core values of safety, integrity and excellence.”

You can watch the totally innocuous underground Harlem Shake below and decide if you think it deserved this kind of response:

Not only were the miners fired from their current gig, but Barminco also banned the workers from being “subcontracted by Barminco at any site domestically and globally.”

All of this for 30 seconds of (admittedly ridiculous) fun.

If you think that the firing was a little over the top, you can express your support for the miners on the Reinstate the sacked WA Harlem Shake Miners Facebook page.

  • Lifeguard Fired for Saving Drowning Man

Lifeguard Fired for Saving Drowning Man

The role of a lifeguard is pretty much described in their title: they guard lives. So when 21-year-old lifeguard Tomas Lopez was informed that a man was drowning and needed assistance, he leapt into action to save the guy’s life. What he didn’t stop to consider was the fact that the individual was in the “swim at your own risk” section of Florida’s Hallandale Beach. None of that really mattered to Lopez; what he wanted to do was rescue the drowning swimmer, regardless of whether or not the man was dying in his so-called “zone”.

“I was on stand, and guests came up to me and told me there was someone drowning, that people were screaming and so I started running in the direction,” Lopez explained to NBC Miami. “I ran out to do the job I was trained to do — I didn’t think about it at all.”

Unfortunately for Lopez, his bosses didn’t care much for the young man’s heroics. As a result of leaving his area to help, Lopez was fired from his position, effective immediately. Not surprisingly, the backlash against his employers was almost instantaneous. So enraged were some of his co-workers that two of them quit in protest.

    (image)video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

Susan Ellis, Lopez’s supervisor, commented on the company’s decision to fire the lifeguard, claiming that Lopez failed to follow the rules and regulations set forth by the company. “We have liability issues and can’t go out of the protected area,” she said to WPTV. “What he did was his own decision. He knew the company rules and did what he thought he needed to do. If we find our actions on the part of the leadership team were inappropriate, we will rectify it based upon the information that comes forward.”

As for the 21 year-old man Lopez risked his job to help, he’s currently recovering at an area hospital. Thanks to the selfless efforts of this lifeguard and an off-duty nurse, the guy will live to swim another day. An investigation into Lopez’s hasty termination is currently underway. Even if his job is reinstated, the young man is unsure if he’ll accept.

“Now that [the firing] is public, they want to fix it. That’s shady to me,” Lopez told Good Morning America. “If I never said anything, they never would have acted.”

  • Twitter Has Fun With Stan Van Gundy Firing

Ending a relationship that had turned ugly, the Orlando Magic fired head coach Stan Van Gundy today, while relieving general manager Otis Smith from his duties. In other words, the Magic cleaned house in an effort to get Dwight Howard to stay around longer than just next season. As indicated, the relationship between the head coach and the star player got a little ugly when Van Gundy publicly responded to rumors that Howard had asked the Magic front office to fire the coach.

Naturally, YouTube/everywhere that covers sports captured this episode for all to see:

From there, it was only a matter of time before one of the two left town, and considering just how much more pull these mega-talented players have over their coaches, logic suggested Van Gundy would be the one leaving town before Howard. Now, that reality has come to fruition, with the GM thrown in to boot.

Considering the popularity of the NBA on Twitter, an overload of reaction was expected. To illustrate this point, Van Gundy has not one, but two Twitter trends discussing his departure. The reaction has been a pretty entertaining read, all things considered:

Magic CEO trying to set a nice screen for Howard, saying DH never asked him to fire Stan Van Gundy. So I guess SVG just made that up. Sure.
