  • Kurt Russell Says Infamous Posts and Disowning in Hudson Family Was Supposed to Be Humorous

Kurt Russell has finally spoken up about the row between his step-kids and their biological father.

Asked at Comic-Con about the now-famous Fathers’ Day posts on Instagram by Oliver and Kate Hudson, Russell said, “I understood Oliver’s sense of humor and since then, there’s been some nice back and forth between Bill and Oliver that’s nice to see.”

The whole mess started when Oliver Hudson posted a pair of pics to Instagram for Fathers’ Day. The first was obviously directed toward his biological father, Goldie Hawn’s first husband, Bill Hudson.

The picture showed a young Oliver and his sister Kate with Bill Hudson between them. But it was stingingly captioned:

    “Happy abandonment day”

Oliver Hudson’s post was followed shortly thereafter by another, this one praising Kurt Russell.

    Happy Father's Day Pa… #neworleans #felixs

Kate Hudson backed that up with an Instagram post of her own, this one too praising Kurt Russell as her “Pa.”

Pa, just simply….. Thank you 🙏 Happy Fathers Day I love you to the moon and back. ✨ #HappyFathersDay

Bill Hudson responded in an interview with the Daily Mail, effectively disowning his kids. He blamed Goldie Hawn for turning his kids against him after she started a relationship with Kurt Russell. Hudson and Hawn divorced in 1980. Hawn and Russell got together in 1983.

“Goldie wanted to create this myth of a perfect family with Kurt and she wanted me out,” Bill Hudson said.

“When we split up, she never had a bad word to say about me,’” he says. “But when Kurt came on the scene, the narrative changed and I became the big, bad wolf. I would say to her ‘Goldie, why are you trashing me and saying I’m an absent father when it’s simply not the case?’ and she’d laugh and go ‘Oh Bill, you know it makes for a better story.’”

Bill Hudson’s response to his kids’ social media posts, especially Oliver’s was public and scathing.

“I say to them now, ‘I set you free,’” he said. “I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own. I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name. They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth.”

Kurt Russell says this as more a humorous post, but that all involved have had to see it played out in the public eye.

“You want people to enjoy life as much as they can,” Kurt Russell says. “We live in a world that if you say something or do something, it can be latched onto [you] for 24 hours or 48 hours.”

  • Father’s Day Google Doodle: User Reactions

The Father’s Day Google Doodle this year is a charming little animated logo featuring a letter-based father receiving a robotic gift from his child. The design almost looks retro, like a ’50s version of what the future might look like, and the coloring is in a muted palette of mostly neutral colors. It’s simple but cute and effective, which can sometimes be the mark of a great design. It doesn’t have to be flashy to be awesome.

The Google Doodle has become an important part of the search engine’s legacy in recent years, reaching out to every generation to find fans with innovative logos incorporating such things as a playable guitar and a super-sweet working game of Pac-Man. Each special creation celebrates a holiday or special event of some kind, and sometimes honors important people in our history with birthday-related themes.

Sometimes the Doodle leaves Google users questioning where the company comes up with their ideas for the special logos, such as the one commemorating the world’s largest snowflake. It seems at times that Google just wants to get a conversation started, and their supreme level of visibility allows them to do just that.

While the Doodles are almost always either innovative, lovely, thought-provoking, or a combination of all three, not everyone is impressed by what they offer, as evidenced by some of the critiques given on the logo celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee; some said it was too simple, while others wished for an interactive Doodle. But for the most part, Google users are met with a nice surprise when they navigate to the search engine, making the Google Doodle hugely popular. It seems people are pretty satisfied with the latest take, as seen on Twitter.

Google also holds contests for young artists to gain exposure with their own logos, offering thousands of dollars in scholarships and school funds, among other prizes.

  • Google Doodle Celebrates Dads Everywhere

Google is famous for creating funny, touching, beautiful, and innovative doodles on their homepage for various holidays and special occasions, and also to celebrate important milestones for people who have been integral to our history. Sometimes they employ famed artists to create the doodle and pay homage to the subject, but the Google team is also capable of making some cool eyecandy, as well.

Today’s Doodle celebrates dads, as families everywhere are showing love for their patriarch on Father’s Day. The Doodle is a sweet little animated logo which shows a tiny letter “e” using a remote-controlled robot to serve Dad (letter “l”) his coffee.

The origin of Father’s Day is the simple story of a woman who thought dads deserved the same honor that mothers receive every year. Sonora Louise Smart Dodd celebrated the first Father’s Day on June 19, 1910 – her father’s birthday. The day was later declared a national holiday by President Lyndon Johnson in 1966.

  • Father’s Day Gift Ideas From Bing

You now officially have less than a week the grab your pops something for Father’s Day. In my experience, at least, dads are much harder to buy for than moms. Plus, my mom will tell me she loves anything that I get her, even if it’s terrible. No such luck with my dad – he’ll tell it like it is.

“I don’t need another tie, and this one’s ugly anyways.”

So if you’re like me and need some gift ideas you might try out Microsoft’s recommendations, as Bing is turning you in the direction of their shopping feature. Here’s what they just tweeted:

The link will take to to the Bing shopping homepage, where you’ll be presented with help finding the right gift. Top 15 Gifts $50 and Under, Top 15 Gifts $25 and Under, and Gifts for Dad: Sports Fan to GrillMaster are just a few of the categories offered by Bing Shopping.

Bing recently redesigned Bing Shopping, putting an emphasis on researching products before purchasing. They also made changes to the results, enlarging search images and enabling a price match feature as well as a similar searches section.

I’ve already found some tempered beer glasses that look pretty swanky, that I think my pops would enjoy. I’ve learned over the years that if you want to play it safe, buy him beer accessories.

Another interesting thing I’m just noticing about the new Bing Shopping site is how it has integrated with Facebook. As part of Bing’s Facebook integration, Friends’ birthdays have their own box on Bing Shopping. So not only will you know when they are, but can quickly grab them a gift if you so choose (if they deserve it).

  • Google Has a “Search Story” For Father’s day

You probably remember Google’s Super Bowl commercial. It was the company’s first TV ad, and it kicked off a broader campaign called Search Stories. In fact, over 150,000 people have created their own search stories, and there is even one for Toy Story 3.

In honor of Father’s Day, Google has put together a special Father/Daughter search story. Robert Wong, Creative Director of Search Stories says he came across a comment on a YouTube video for Paul Simon’s Father and Daughter from a user going by Cullenlvr961, that nearly made him cry. So, Wong dedicated this search story to that user:

Wong writes, "To Cullenlvr961: we don’t know if you’ll read this or see the video, but we just wanted to put it out there and let you know you really touched us and we’re dedicating this Search Story to you and your dad. We’ll be proud if our video evokes even a small piece of the emotion your note did."
