  • Kate Hudson And Brother Oliver Disowned By Birth Father

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Bill Hudson, 65, said he no longer considers Oliver and Kate Hudson as his children after being enraged by a Father’s Day insult.

“I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own. I say to them no, ‘I set you free’,” Bill said during the interview. “I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three.”

Oliver, 38, posted a photo of himself and Kate, 36, with Bill accompanied by a message reading, “Happy abandonment day.”

What made Bill’s outburst even worse are the Father’s Day messages of Kate and Oliver addressing Kurt Russell as their ‘Pa’. Russell has been the long-time love of Bill’s ex, Goldie Hawn.

A photo posted by Kate Hudson (@katehudson) on

“Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack,” said Bill. “He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth.”

Bill also told the two to stop using his last name. “I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name,” Bill told Daily Mail. “They are no longer a part of my life.”

He told Kate to take Russell’s last name instead. “She wants to be Kurt’s daughter? Well then, take his name, stop using mine,” said Bill.

Moreover, Bill blames Russell on his estrangement with his family. According to Bill, Hawn never had a bad word to say about him but everything changed when Russell entered Hawn’s life.

“But when Kurt came on the scene, the narrative changed and I became the big, bad wolf. I would say to her ‘Goldie, why are you trashing me and saying I’m an absent father when it’s simply not the case?’ and she’d laugh and go ‘Oh Bill, you know it makes for a better story’,” Bill explained.

  • Bobby Brown and Bobbi Kristina Brown Together on Father’s Day

Bobby Brown spent some time on Father’s Day with his previously estranged daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, his child with the late Whitney Houston. Bobbi Kristina is Brown’s only child and it seems some hugs on Father’s Day melted away a lot of the angst the two experienced during the past couple of years. This must have been a huge relief for both father and daughter. Since Whitney’s passing life has been stressful for Bobbi Kristina and even though Bobby Brown got married recently he still likely felt an empty place in his heart with the absence of his daughter.

Bobbi Kristina, who claims to be married to Nick Gordon–the young man Whitney Houston raised as her own–posted about her reunion with her dad on social media–sharing photos on Instagram.

This first one, captioned “I got a running start! Love you Daddy,” shows the excitement each felt when they met for the first time in a long while on Sunday.

Bobbi Kristina captioned this next photo, “(: my face says it all.. 🙂 love you daddy!”

It was back in January that Bobbi Kristina told the world via social media that she and Nick Gordon had gotten married. Just a couple of weeks ago Bobby Brown spoke about his daughter and Nick Gordon during an interview, but he spoke about Bobbi Kristina as though she hadn’t yet tied the knot.

“She’s doing wonderful,” Brown, 45, said of Bobbi Kristina. “We’re going to spend Father’s Day together, which I’m so grateful for… and I can’t wait to get there.”

He was asked if he would tell Bobbi Kristina to hold off on marriage should he be given the opportunity to do so or if he might suggest she wait a while before getting married.

“I wouldn’t do that,” Brown replied. “She makes a lot of great decisions. Her mother was very smart and she raised her very well. So I really don’t trip or worry about her as much as people want to make it seem, you know? Like ‘She’s in danger.’ No, she’s not. She’s a very bright, young, and beautiful young girl.”

This certainly makes it sound like Bobbi Kristina Brown and Nick Gordon aren’t yet married. But who knows? At least Bobbi Kristina had a nice reunion with her dad and Bobby Brown had a happy Father’s Day. The media can speculate on the details. As of Sunday, spending time as a father and a daughter was all that mattered to these two.

  • Matt Lauer Signs New ‘TODAY’ Show Contract, Shares Heart

Matt Lauer has reportedly signed a continuing contract with The TODAY Show. The morning news show has taken second place to Good Morning America for two years since the network’s demotion of Ann Curry from her spot as Lauer’s co-anchor. Although no terms of Lauer’s new contract have been released, his previous one made him one of the highest paid people in the broadcast industry, bringing in an average of $25 million per year.

“I consider this the best job in broadcasting,” Matt Lauer said in a statement. “I love people I work with every day, and I have such respect and gratitude for the people I work for. I couldn’t be happier to be staying.”

Lauer has been with NBC for twenty years and is considered by some–especially those within the NBC family–to be among the very best.

NBC News President Deborah Turness said Lauer is “the best in the business.”

On a more personal note, Matt Lauer recently made news for the very powerful letter he wrote to his daughter Romy as part of a TIME magazine and women’s empowerment project that a few of the NBC dads took part in.

“How did we get from those hysterical ballet lessons at the age of four, to the princess phase, when everything in your world had to be pink? How did we get from the little girl who loved animals to your fearlessness on horseback, despite the occasional trip to the emergency room? And how did you come to decide that you wanted to be one of just a few young ladies in our town to play Little League baseball? Did you have any idea how my heart was bursting with pride?” he wrote to his little girl.

The letter shares a side of Matt Lauer that some have always believed lurked just beneath of the surface of the astute journalist’s on air facade. Others likely didn’t think he had it in him.

Something Matt Lauer doesn’t have in him is an ability to maintain a social media image. His Instagram account holds only ten pictures. Here’s one from last fall.

Even his Twitter posts shine light on his career but not on his personal life.

Regardless of his lack on social media personality, congratulations are definitely in order to Matt Lauer for continuing on at NBC but congratulations even more for having the wisdom and the strength to share raw emotions with his daughter. That’s a gift not all children get to receive.

  • Nook HD Father’s Day Sale Extended Into Summer

Did you forget to get your dad that Nook HD he really wanted on Father’s Day? If so, Barnes & Noble is giving you another chance to redeem yourself.

Barnes & Nobile announced that is “best prices ever” Father’s Day promotion has been extended into the summer. During this time, you’ll be able to pick up a Nook HD for $129 (8GB) or $149 (16GB). Likewise, the Nook HD+ is available at $149 (16GB) or $179 (32GB). You’ll see these prices at Barnes & Noble, Nook.com and any retailer that sells the devices.

“With the fantastic success of our Father’s Day promotion, we decided to extend the great prices on Nook HD and Nook HD+ to help our customers gear up for a great summer reading season,” said Jamie Iannone, President of Nook Media. “In our stores and online, customers have embraced these beautifully designed, lightweight devices with stunning displays that offer great reading and entertainment content. We’re thrilled to keep in place our best prices ever and deliver great value to make reading more affordable.”

I’m just spitballing here, but maybe Nook should keep these prices. Amazon has been able to undercut the Nook HD at every corner thanks to its lower price and wide selection of content. Nook now has the chance to pose a legitimate threat to Kindle with the combination of lower prices and access to the massive Google Play Store.

Even then, the biggest threat Nook faces right now is Nook itself. The Barnes & Noble subsidiary is rumored to be ditching its hardware business in favor of pushing its Nook app on Android and iOS devices. It’s not a bad idea, but its hardware could see a renaissance of sorts with a renewed focus on content and a lower price. Nook would be smart to see how this current promotion does for it before making any substantial changes to its business.

  • Father’s Day Freebies Becoming Increasingly More Common

Father’s Day freebies are something that any father on a budget can appreciate. The holiday only comes once a year, so why not treat yourself, right?

According to a recent report, those in the business of celebrating holidays with promotions are just starting to offer Father’s Day specials. The offers, mostly available at restaurants, are trying to bring in customers on a day that’s not normally associated with deals.

Marketing consultant Tracey Riese told USA Today that Father’s Day is not normally considered a holiday for deals because “children are not expected to treat their fathers on Father’s Day.” Restaurants are trying to get those families, including children, into the doors with the allure of free food and other goodies. It’s hard to say if it will work, however, as most fathers would probably just want to stay home and relax on Father’s Day.

If you decide to head out on Father’s Day, you’ll want to check out the following places:

  • Spaghetti Warehouse – Free spaghetti or lasagna entree with coupon.
  • Shoney’s – Free fudge cake with purchase of entree.
  • TCBY – Free six-ounce cup or cone of frozen yogurt.
  • Hooters – Buy 10 wings and get 10 free.
  • Buca di Beppo – Free cannoli with coupon.
  • There are undoubtedly more deals than this at businesses around the nation. If you miss out this year, you might be able to convince businesses to hand you a freebie for being a stellar day. If not, there’s always next year. Father’s Day isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

  • How to Be a Dad – Government Knows Best?

For those of you that enjoyed your Father’s day weekend, the federal government wants to remind you that being a father isn’t all presents and cookouts. The job is far from over, and the government wants to help you out by giving you “tips” on how to be a better dad in the form of instructional videos and outreach programs.

Our government has released a website that is to be used as an instructional tool for all the would be fathers out there. The parenting tips can be found at www.fatherhood.gov and are brought to you by the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse. Fathers can go to the site to get involved with outreach programs with other fathers in their community. They can also share stories and thoughts on what it means to be a father on the DadTalk Blog.

It links to to the videos on the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ Psychiatric Research Institute’s Web site that gives helpful hints for being a better father. Most of them are simple tasks to do with your children, like helping them develop healthy eating habits, brushing their teeth, washing hands and going to the library.

The site is funded with taxpayer money, and launched during the Clinton administration. It is currently being funded by the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 and is intended for “the development, promotion, and distribution of a media campaign to encourage the appropriate involvement of parents in the life of any child and specifically the issue of responsible fatherhood, and the development of a national clearinghouse to assist states and communities in efforts to promote and support marriage and responsible fatherhood.”

These tips could possibly be helpful to people that don’t know how to do these things. But who really doesn’t know how to show a child how to brush their teeth, or how to read a book to them. Which raises the question, is this website at all necessary? It is everyone’s duty to be socially responsible and teach their children how to be a proper person, but does the government really need to get involved in this? Some are going to argue that social initiatives like this will ultimately help Americans move forward as a society, others are going to argue that this is just another way for the government to enter our households.

One thing is certain, no one has ever said their dad was a good father because the government showed him how.

  • Consumers Bank on Daily Deals for Father’s Day

Daily deals provider PriceGrabber recently released a study regarding consumer spending in regards to this year’s Father’s Day. Interestingly, it found that consumers would be utilizing daily deals’ sites to compare and shop for their dads.

Did you use daily deals offer for your dad for this year’s Father’s Day? Let us know.

The survey, which looked at 2,950 U.S. online consumers that planned to spend money on a Father’s Day gift, found, specifically, that 45 percent of shoppers would search daily deals sites for gifts. Jon Margolis, the Senior Director of Local Merchant Accounts at PriceGrabber, told us that a lot of consumers were looking for experiential gifts for their dads this year.

PriceGrabber also recently introduced a local daily deals category that serves as an aggregator of local deals. According to the survey, 46 percent of consumers would be using this new feature while shopping for their dads. The company hopes their new solution will help alleviate the overwhelming emails that consumers receive from deals’ providers and save time in their shopping efforts.

“The average consumer really doesn’t have the time to spend on 20 different websites and go through 20 different emails,” said Margolis.

With this aggregator solution, consumers can search by location or by category, such as tools. Margolis said that he even used it to easily find his dad a Father’s Day present pertaining to golf.

As the daily deals industry grows, he went on to say that he believed consumers would take further advantage of daily deals’ offerings for their friends and family.

“Instead of just buying these things for yourself, the future is going to be giving these experiences as a gift,” he said.
