  • ‘Fantasia: Music Evolved’ Gameplay Previewed in New Trailer

Despite the inclusion of the new Kinect with the sale of every Xbox One console, the necessity of the device is still heavily questioned among game fans. Voice commands and hand gestures can be used to navigate the console, but gamers are split on whether these features justify the peripheral’s inclusion with the new console.

The value of the device certainly hasn’t been demonstrated for video games. Other than Ubisoft’s newest Just Dance and the poorly-reviewed Fighter Within, Microsoft’s Zoo Tycoon was the only launch game available for the Xbox One that made extensive use of the Kinect. Even the upcoming Kinect Sports Rivals appears to be little more than a collection of minigames released months too late to show off the Kinect’s capabilities for the Xbox One launch.

It is into this environment that Disney will be releasing Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved. Developed by Harmonix, the game puts players into the world of Disney’s Fantasia movies, allowing them to direct the action and music in tandem.

Disney today released a new preview for Music Evolved (presumably named to indicate that it is the Halo of Kinect-base music games). The preview shows off what is to be expected out of any gameplay trailer for a Kinect-centered game: a lot of arm flailing.

The game world previewed in the video is called “The Hollow.” As shown in the video, players will be able to interact with the level using gestures to change lighting and interact with characters or the environment. This is followed by a conducting music game featuring the classical music the Fantasia movie are known for.

Worries about the Kinect aside, it does appear that the imaginative art and animation Disney is known for has made it into Music Evolved. Since the game is not an Xbox One exclusive, the title could even find a large audience among Kinect adopters for the Xbox 360.

  • Kandi Burruss Defends Mama Joyce, Talks Todd Tucker Drama

Last night’s episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta was definitely one for the record books. However, most of the controversy wasn’t derived from any of the housewives. The drama award for Sunday night goes to none other than Kandi Burruss’ mother, ‘Mama Joyce’.

It’s definitely quite blatant that the Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter’s mother feels some kind of way, and the crux of the problem is Burruss’ fiance’, Todd Tucker. Now, for those who are avid fans of the Atlanta Housewives, it’s no secret that Mama Joyce isn’t one to hold back her opinion.

She and Burruss’ have been at odds all season where the wedding plans are concerned as her mother is adamant about her disapproval of Tucker.

Like most mothers, Mama Joyce is very protective of her daughter, with no intention of hiding any disdain, which is why she flew off the handle last night. For those who missed it, Mama Joyce and Burruss’ close friend Carmen got into a rather heated verbal altercation when she went to try on wedding dresses.

Mama Joyce is under the distinct impression that Carmen has a high level of underlying jealousy where Burruss is concerned. She also hinted that rumors of Tucker’s alleged infidelity have been brought to their family by Burruss’ employees. But, here’s the kicker. It’s rumored that Tucker is secretly involved with Carmen.

So, Mama Joyce definitely had no interest in entertaining the likes of Carmen. She also had no qualms about sharing her disapproval of everything with Burruss, and fans were appalled with the brash delivery of her message.

So, when Burruss appeared on Watch What Happens Live, with R&B singer Fantasia, a burning question was asked. In so many words, a caller asked was Mama Joyce’s disapproval of her engagement about money? The caller wanted to know if her mother felt threatened by Tucker’s presence because she’d no longer have access to her money.

According to S2S Magazine, the question caused Burruss to erupt, and she tearfully took the liberty of facing the issue dead-on in her mother’s defense.

“I feel like as her daughter, it’s my job to make sure that she’s good. She made sure I was good growing up. I’m going to make sure that she’s good. I don’t care if she doesn’t like my relationship,” said Burruss tearfully.

“That’s my mom. I don’t care what y’all have to say. That’s my mom. I’mma make sure that my mama’s good. She don’t have to talk to me. She don’t have to say anything to me,” explained Burruss. “Y’all can tweet. Y’all can do whatever…You can tweet to y’all get blue in the face. She can have whatever she want.”

“I’m not agreeing with everything my mother says. Obviously, we disagree on a lot of things. It’s just the fact of I’m going to be respectful in the way that I tell her. No, she’s not respectful in the way she tell me how she feels,” she explained. “When I became the person who made more money, it did not make me her mama. She’s still my mama. I’m going to approach her in a certain way.”

Burruss also addressed the status of her relationship with Tucker. The two are still engaged with plans to marry.

Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved Gets A New Trailer

Harmonix proved to be one of the best Kinect developers around with its excellent Dance Central series. It’s unknown at this point if the series will continue on the Xbox One, but the team is hard at work crafting its next Kinect experience for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Harmonix and Disney announced at E3 that they were collaborating on a new Kinect title called Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved. In a new trailer released today, the developers show off some live gameplay. In it, you’ll see the player interacting with the environment and creating music. After that, they conduct an orchestra with various arm gestures to complete the stage.

Fantasia remains one of Disney’s best works of animation, and Harmonix’ new game is pretty exciting. If it can capture even a slice of what Fantasia so great to begin with, we could have a new reason to buy into the Kinect hype. Much like the Wii before it, it’s these kind of new experiences that sell the peripheral instead of developers trying to co-opt traditional gameplay into untraditional control schemes.

Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved is slated for release in 2014 for both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.

  • Fantasia: Gay Marriage Comments Rile Up Web

“American Idol” alum Fantasia Barino has a lot of angry fans on her hands after some comments she made on her Instagram account regarding gay marriage went viral.

Barino, while on a rant about the things the media says about her, wrote, “I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!!,” she wrote. “It’s a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!”

The “Lose To Win” singer immediately drew the attention of her rather large gay fanbase, prompting her reps to release a statement in order to do damage control.

“Comments made by Ms. Barrino through her Instagram account were recently taken far out of context, and the purpose of this release is to set the record straight,” read the statement. “Ms. Barrino is not now, nor has she ever been an opponent of the LGBT community. She has supported and performed at numerous events that are sponsored by the LGBT community. Whether it’s through a live performance or placement on social media, Ms. Barrino uses every opportunity to reach out and connect with her fans, all of her fans.”

Barino herself issued a statement–which was not quite an apology–and said her words were twisted by bloggers.

“It has been brought to my attention that something I said was taken out of context,” she wrote. “I, Fantasia Monique Barrino, don’t judge anyone because I don’t want to be judged. The gay community is one of my largest supporters. I support the gay community as they support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts.”

Despite her assessment of the situation, it seems she’s turned a lot of fans away with her words.
