  • Sylvester Stallone Admits “Expendables 3” Should Have Been Different

Sylvester Stallone said recently that he knew why The Expendables 3 didn’t fare so well at the box office, and that it won’t happen again.

The action star told Crave Online that the film’s violence was toned down quite a bit in order to give it a PG-13 rating, which took a toll on the numbers at the box office. In an effort to reach a wider–and younger–audience, the rating change inadvertently pushed fans of the franchise away. However, Stallone says they can look forward to deleted scenes and uncut material making its way to the DVD and Blu-ray, which will be released soon.

“Absolutely, unequivocally yes. I believe it was a horrible miscalculation on everyone’s part in trying to reach a wider audience, but in doing such, diminish the violence that the audience expects. I’m quite certain it won’t happen again,” he said.

Stallone also talked about the next film in the series–which has been rumored to involve time-travel so that the Expendables are transported to WWII–and gave some insight into why the main characters aren’t so, well, expendable.

“This is a big conflict for me because in an R-rated film it is difficult to believe that none of the heroes die. I personally just believe that the characters become identifiable and their demise could put a dark cloud over an audience exiting the theatre after seeing the film. But that may change in Expendables 4…I have actually entertained the idea of putting the group into such an unnatural environment that it, in an of itself, creates extra suspense and tension: the “fish out of water” scenario. That environment might not be time travel, but nearly just as jarring,” he said.

It’s difficult to say where the fourth film will take the group, but Stallone is adamant about solving the issues that the third movie had. The Expendables and The Expendables 2 brought in $103 million and $85 million domestically, while the latest installment made only $39 million despite the addition of UFC fighter Ronda Rousey.

Ronda Rousey: “Strong Is The New Sexy”

Ronda Rousey spoke recently about what it means to be a female in the testosterone-dominated world of the UFC, and said that it’s been a long process to become comfortable with her strong body.

The Expendables 3 star says that strong is the new sexy, and she’s happy to hear that her body is inspiring others to look at things in a new way. After a battle with bulimia, she says that training for what she really wanted–the Bantamweight title–helped her see things in a different perspective.

“What I really realized I was doing wrong was dieting and training and doing all of these things that I didn’t even like to get this idea of the body that I wanted. I was focused on the results, instead of the process. I was unhappy and thought that when I got the right body I would be happy. But I was going at it backwards. I had to make myself happy first and then the body came,” she told Yahoo News.

Rousey has been getting great reviews for her role in Expendables 3, another male-dominated scene that the athlete made her own. However, she said that during the premiere she was nervous about watching herself and had to force herself not to react because she knew her friends were watching her face.

“Anyone I was watching the movie with would look at my face to see my reaction to watching myself and so I got self-conscious about how I looked watching me,” she said.

Rousey says she would train every day of the week if she could, but her coach forces her to take a break. Rather than stick to a workout or training routine, she says she likes to change it up.

“I do different things every day. I never really liked weight lifting because there is no problem solving, whereas when I am fighting, I am trying to solve a problem, so I don’t think about being tired. I box, wrestle, do jujitsu, run up sand dunes, every single day is something different so that I am mentally engaged. That’s what makes me want to train longer. Then it’s like, “Oh my god what am I going to do today?” instead of, “I have to go do my regular gym routine.” There is no routine. I purposefully try to do something different every day to keep my muscles confused and my mind interested.”

  • Antonio Banderas Parties With a a Bunch of Babes. Rebounding from Melanie Griffith?

    Rebound much?

Looking a little lecherous, Antonio Banderas was spotted in Saint-Tropez over the weekend partying with a slew of tall, beautiful young women.

Just two months after splitting from his wife of 18 years, Melanie Griffith, the 54-year-old actor danced the night away Saturday at the nightclub, L’Opéra. One after the other, a flock of females — young ones at that — found themselves in the arms of the Expendables 3 actor.

In the pics, the Spanish star is seen flirting, smiling, dancing, and pulling woman after woman into his arms, whispering God knows what into their ears. At the end of the evening, Banderas was seen leaving with one particular lady who was clad in a sexy maroon jumpsuit.

In June, Banderas and Griffith announced they were separating after 18 years of marriage, telling Us Weekly in a joint statement: “We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost 20-year marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family, and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together.”

“There was no cheating on either side,” a source told Us at the time, “They had fallen out of love awhile ago.”

According to TMZ, the 57-year-old actress asked for spousal support, child support, sole physical and joint legal custody of the couple’s 17-year-old daughter, Stella.

While Banderas parties on, Griffith is focusing on her work and enjoying life as a single girl.

“My kids are almost grown. I’m getting divorced. I’m just happy,” she told IndieWire. “I’m really joyful. Life is good.”

The Working Girl has some great gigs lined up in the months to come, including a role in the reboot of Pippen on Broadway and a gritty role in the new Indie film, Thirst, in which she plays an alcoholic prostitute.

  • Ronda Rousey Gets Great Reviews For “Expendables 3”

Ronda Rousey has been making headlines for time spent in the UFC ring this year, but now that she’s a movie star she’s getting a lot more press…and a lot more critiques.

Rousey is used to being a standout female in a male-dominated sport, and Expendables 3 was no exception. The bantamweight champ is getting great reviews for her turn as Luna in the action film, with several critics pointing her out as a breath of fresh air in a movie that has essentially already been done twice before.

“She is the only significant female character in the film but is woefully underused,” wrote Geoffrey Macnab of The Independent. ” She is at the top of her (very savage) sport but the film treats her as if she is a glorified Miss Moneypenny. She dresses like a secretary even as she works as a nightclub bouncer.”

Rousey’s wardrobe was a main point of contention with Indiewire, as well, who wrote, “The film momentarily spikes when a young female Expendable is introduced, played by wrestler Ronda Rousey, although it dips just as suddenly when it becomes very clear that she is the only Expendable whose paramilitary get-up has a plunging neckline.”

All the attention has made Rousey a bit uncomfortable, especially when it came time to actually watch her own performance in the film.

“Anyone I was watching the movie with would look at my face to see my reaction to watching myself and so I got self-conscious about how I looked watching me,” she said.

Rousey expressed concern earlier this year that her careers were tied up in one another, saying that her July match against Alexis Davis had a lot riding on it.

“The only thing I care about is beating Alexis. My whole fighting career and my whole Hollywood career depend on it,” she said.

She needn’t have worried; she beat Davis in an incredible 16 seconds.

  • Wesley Snipes on Prison: ‘You Can’t Take Life Too Seriously’

Wesley Snipes has served his time behind bars and is now back in his first role since being released — The Expendables 3 — joining his friend, Sylvester Stallone.

On Monday Snipes joked that Stallone had him slated for the first Expendables film but he couldn’t commit because he was “just a little occupied at the time.”

“They reserved a spot for me and when the opportunity came along he reached out again and said come join us, we would like you to be a part of this.”

Snipes began his jail term in December 2010 after being convicted and sentenced to three years in prison for tax evasion in 2008.

The movie takes a jab at Snipes’ time behind bars in the opening scenes with a tax-evasion joke.

Stallone also had a few jokes of his own to share about his friend’s time in prison.

“You don’t mind that I’m readying you for a part in Escape From Alcatraz 2 do you?” Stallone asked Snipes at a press conference in London.

“Whether I do something really funny or really stupid, it is okay with me,” said the 52-year-old actor. “I think that is what life is about. You can’t take life itself too seriously.”

At the end of the day, nobody really cares. You’re going to be forgotten anyway. The issues and problems that you think are like mountains that you have to deal with now, after time goes by, nobody cares. Might as well have a good time with it.”

The 52-year-old actor is eager to get back into the rhythm of filming action projects and is especially hopeful to return to his role as the vampire in the Blade franchise.

“A lot of people are calling for it and I would like to do it,” he said.

  • Wesley Snipes Jokes About His Time In Prison

Action star Wesley Snipes is back on the big screen in the new Expendables 3 film alongside Sylvester Stallone.

Snipes spoke to reporters ahead of the film’s world premiere on Monday, and revealed that Stallone had penned him for the first film, however he was a bit “preoccupied at the time.”

In 2008, Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison for failing to file his income tax returns. He started his jail time in 2010, and was just recently released. “They reserved a spot for me and when the opportunity came along he reached out again and said come join us, we would like you to be a part of this,” the 52-year-old actor said.

Snipes tries not to take his time in prison too seriously, and the film even makes reference to Snipes in the first scene with a tax-evasion joke.

“Whether I do something really funny or really stupid, it is okay with me,” Snipes said. “I think that is what life is about. You can’t take life itself too seriously.”

“At the end of the day, nobody really cares. You’re going to be forgotten anyway. The issues and problems that you think are like mountains that you have to deal with now, after time goes by, nobody cares,” he added. “Might as well have a good time with it.”

  • Ronda Rousey Seeks to Be World’s Highest-Paid Actor

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey said in an interview with ESPN that she “want(s) to be the highest-grossing actor in the world someday.”

Rousey, 27, will appear in three movies coming out within a year, The Expendables 3, Entourage and Fast and Furious 7. Though, her goal of conquering Hollywood might prove to be a tough task, if she continues to juggle UFC fighting and acting.

Rousey commented, “I didn’t grow up wanting to be an action star. I just didn’t think it was in the cards. Now that it’s a possibility, I’m like, ‘Screw it, I don’t give a shit, if The Rock can become the world’s highest-grossing actor, I can have that same goal.’”

Incidentally, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is currently Hollywood’s second highest-grossing actor, behind Robert Downey Jr., with $75 million and $52 million earned between June 2013 and June 2014 respectively.

Here is the trailer for The Expendables 3, which hits theaters August 15:

Gina Carano, another MMA fighter turned actress has been seemingly hesitant to return to the UFC cage, and can likely attest to how difficult it is to persue a career in Hollywood, while trying to stay in fighting shape. Carano, 32, hasn’t fought since 2009, and said in a recent interview, “I would definitely take something like that extremely seriously. I would dedicate myself to it, and need the time because you’re taking somebody who hasn’t fought in a while, that hasn’t been in the fight camp-type environment; and it would have to be done in a time where there would be enough time for me to get ready for that and be able to support myself during that time because that’s all I’d be doing is taking that seriously, and it would take me away from other projects or potential projects that I’ve been working this far in my life to get to.”

UFC president Dana White hopes that Carano will sign on to return to the ring, and possibly be matched up against Rousey. Rousey said she would go back up to middleweight (145 pounds) to fight Carano.

Rousey’s Expendables costars show support at UFC #175:

Commenting on her own work ethic, Rousey said, “I never aspired to be second. I was taught as a kid that you can do whatever you want in this world, so why not be the best in the world at it? Even when I was bartending, I wanted to be the world’s best, most efficient and charming bartender. That’s how I do things.”

  • Pierce Brosnan On Board for ‘Expendables 4?’

Is Pierce Brosnan on board for a role in Expendables 4? The former James Bond actor will in fact join the cast of the next film that is scheduled for release some time in 2015. Prior to being enlisted the actor expressed a strong interest in being cast, naming Sylvester Stallone as one of the biggest draws for him.

“Sylvester Stallone brings a bunch of guys together who saved the world, fought the bad guys, and put them all on the same stage, that’s crazy good,” the actor said about the franchise.

“I said to producer Avi Lerner, ‘If it works out and you have a good script, you know where to find me if you still want me.’ It’s as simple as that really,” Brosnan confirmed.

Once Pierce Brosnan officially signs on the dotted line, his presence in the fourth installment will mark the first time a former Bond actor has appeared in the franchise. He can rest assured, however, that plenty of top notch actors who have previously played action stars are on board as well, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Statham–not to mention Sylvester Stallone.

Expendables 3 is set to premiere in theaters on August 15th. That means a lot can happen between the release of that film and when filming for number four commences. In the meantime Pierce Brosnan is starring in a new film called A Long Way Down. He spoke with Matt Lauer about his role on Sunday on The TODAY Show.

Can you see Pierce Brosnan as part of the Expendables 4 cast of characters? Do you believe he has what it takes to play this kind of action hero?

Check out the Expendables 3 trailer to see what Pierce will likely soon prepare for.
