  • Lucy Lawless To Star In New “Evil Dead” Series

Lucy Lawless has officially been cast in the upcoming Starz series Ash Vs. Evil Dead, and fans of Xena are pleased at the news of a reunion.

Lawless will join her former co-star, Bruce Campbell, for the series as Ruby, a woman on a mission to track down the source of a recent outbreak of evildoing. According to Entertainment Weekly, she believes that Campbell’s character is at the heart of it all.

The 10-episode show will be executive produced by Sam Raimi, who worked with Lawless on Xena: Warrior Princess as well. According to a report by Deadline, the show will begin filming this year and aims to air before the end of 2015.

The show is already garnering fans, with Twitter buzzing about the casting choices and fans of the Evil Dead films excited to see Campbell back with his boomstick. The show, which will be filmed in New Zealand, is being called a sequel to Evil Dead.

Ash Vs. Evil Dead is the latest in a series of television roles for Lawless, who has appeared on Flight Of The Conchords, Parks And Recreation, and Salem since her warrior princess days.

Lucy can count on an easy time filming, as she already has a fan in her co-star. Campbell told Blastr.com that he would do just about anything to keep her happy on the show.

“We just added her to our cast, and I got to tell you, I couldn’t be happier. Some actors you work with and you know that you’re going to fail the chemistry test. There are some that you know you won’t fail it. She’s great; I worked with her a lot in the Xena days, and it’s great to have her on Ash vs. Evil Dead. She is a beautiful woman who is very talented. I expect her to hog every one of our scenes, and I’ll let her because she’s Lucy Lawless; we want her to be happy on the show, and we have a very good part for her,” he said.

  • Prepare Your Boomsticks for This Animated Evil Dead Tribute

There are a lot of people out there who love the “Evil Dead” movies, so much so that they’re willing to stand in line for several hours at numerous horror conventions just to get a peek at their hero, Bruce Campbell. I happen to be one of those folks who grew up watching the “Evil Dead” movies as a kid, thanks in part to the folks who programmed the USA Network back in the early 90’s. God bless your degenerate souls. Without their assistance, I may not have stumbled across these films until several years later. There’s no telling how my life would have turned out had I not discovered “Evil Dead 2” on VHS while in middle school.

Director Daniel Kanemoto, inspired by the work of artist Olly Moss, decided to pay tribute to the franchise by putting together the animated clip you see below. In short, it’s a crash course through the zany world of Sam Raimi’s “Evil Dead”, complete with iconic moments and nifty one-liners. If you haven’t seen the films, then the numerous references will probably be lost on you. Still, anyone with a passing interest in cool animation should find something to love about the clip. As fan of the series, I happen to think it’s insanely badass.

Thanks to Bruce Campbell (@GroovyBruce) for the heads up.

  • Epic Evil Dead 2 Rotoscope Trailer

Epic Evil Dead 2 Rotoscope Trailer

Cult Classic Evil Dead 2 from legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi gets the rotoscope treatment on this revamped trailer for the original film. This version is great; the rotoscope captures the movie’s already cartoonish appeal perfectly.

This 46 second version from PFR Studios took 400 hours of hand drawn vector art to complete!

Extremely awesome. I’m want to see the full movie done this way. By my calculations it would only take five years of continuous work (no breaks) to complete. If you absolutely have to eat and sleep you can stretch that 43,826 hours over a 40 hour work week and be done in 21 years. Alright PFR Studios, get crackin’.

Here is the original for comparison purposes.

  • Bruce Campbell Joins, Dominates Twitter

    Bruce Campbell Joins, Dominates Twitter

Hail to the King, baby. That’s what’s happening on Twitter right now as the almighty Bruce Campbell has joined, just in time to confirm rumors of a fourth Evil Dead movie. If ever an actor exemplified “cult classic,” it’s Campbell, after starring in such gems as the aforementioned Evil Dead series, Bubba Ho-Tep, and the USA Network series, Burn Notice, among others. To the general public, Campbell is probably most recognized for his cameos in the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movies, but his credibility with the geek sector is white-hot.

That probably explains why both Bruce and the rumored Evil Dead sequel are trending on Twitter at the moment. Not only did Campbell join the Twitter revolution, but he also indicated the Evil Dead sequel is, in fact, real.

@TheMike31 Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell. 14 hours ago via Twitter for iPhone · powered by @socialditto

While some may be troubled by the “remake” portion of Campbell’s post, the fact that they are indeed going ahead with another installment of Evil Dead is reason enough to rejoice. Granted, some pointed out the delay between Indiana Jones sequels as cause for concern, but then again, George Lucas has nothing to do with the Evil Dead series, so perhaps these fears are unfounded:

Normally, I’m against franchises returning after a 20-year absence (ahem, Indy). Evil Dead? Now that, I’m excited about: http://t.co/ysHmxfj 36 minutes ago via Tweet Button · powered by @socialditto

As for the reaction to the news of Campbell, and the Evil Dead sequel, does the word “nerdgasm” mean anything to you? It’s surprising that particular word didn’t hit the Twitter trend list:

Yes, the word “groovy” most definitely fits here. In fact, anytime Bruce Campbell is even mentioned, the word “groovy” needs to be included somewhere. As an ode to the good news, here’s a fantastic clip of Bruce in action:

    Hail to the king, indeed.
