  • Nintendo 3DS eShop Gets A Number Of Unique Titles This Spring

The Nintendo eShop for 3DS has been a bastion of creativity and innovation since it first launched in 2011. Nintendo’s own studios have created a number of unique titles for the service that don’t conform to the conventions set by their big budget releases. That focus on innovative titles will continue with the next wave of eShop titles hitting the service.

During its Nintendo Direct this morning, the company announced that HarmoKnight, Kersploosh!, and Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move would be coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop this spring.

The first is HarmoKnight, a rhythm platformer from Game Freak. The developer has taken time off of working on the Pokemon franchise to make this unique platformer that bears a striking resemblance to Bit.Trip Runner. It’s just as, if not more, charming than Gaijin Game’s effort, and features some stellar tunes if the trailer is any indication. With this being GameFreak, the game will also feature some Pokemon music crossovers that’s sure to delight fans of the franchise.

HarmoKnight will be available on the eShop on March 28.

The second is a far more “interesting” title called Kersploosh! In this game, the player controls a rock that’s been thrown down a well. The player will have to maneuver the rock on its way down to avoid obstacles as it makes its way to the water at the bottom. It’s certainly unique, and could very well be a really fun title.

Finally, Nintendo showed off the latest game in its Mario and Donkey Kong series called Minis on the Move. Much like the previous titles, the game is focused on solving puzzles as Mario leads miniature versions of himself to the exit while avoiding hazards.

  • Nintendo Kicks Off Its Famicom Celebration In This Week’s Nintendo Download

After yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, fans across Twitter and Facebook said 2013 was the year of Nintendomination. It’s hard to deny after seeing announcements for such a broad range of titles that all appeal to the hardcore gamer, not to mention a remake of the greatest Zelda game ever made. Unfortunately, all of these titles are months away, but fans can at least enjoy a few eShop games while they’re waiting.

Coming to the eShop for Wii U this week is the beginning of a celebration for the 30th anniversary of the Famicom, or Family Computer. What you remember as the NES in America was a little red and gold box in Japan that read floppy discs. It turns 30 this year and in celebration, Nintendo will be offering a new Virtual Console title on the Wii U each month for the reduced price of 30 cents.

First up is Balloon Fight, a classic arcade-like title for the NES. The game will be available for the reduced price of 30 cents until February 21. The other games coming to the service in the coming months include F-ZERO, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mike Tyson Mr. Dream, Kirby’s Adventure, Super Metroid, Yoshi and Donkey Kong.

Also on the Wii U eShop this week is The Cave and Funky Barn. The Cave is the latest game from Double Fine and Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert. If you’re in the mood for a quirky title with a lot of heart, you can’t go wrong here. As for Funky Barn, you’re probably better off just browsing its absurd Miiverse community.

The 3DS gets a number of additions to its eShop as well this week with a demo, a full retail game and a few eShop titles. First up is the demo for Brain Age: Concentration Training. The latest game in the super popular Brain Age series is back with a vengeance and the demo should give you an idea of what to expect.

The other titles available on the 3DS eShop this week include Super C, Cocoto Alien Brick Breaker and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Shadow Wars.

  • Nintendo Finally Provides Some Much Needed Wii U Content (In The Form Of Demos)

For the past few weeks, the Nintendo Download has been devoid of any quality Wii U content. In fact, the next game scheduled for the eShop is Double Fine’s The Cave. Beyond that, there doesn’t seem to be much on the horizon. Of course, Nintendo is kind of fixing that this week with two demos of launch titles from last year.

Nintendo announced that demos for ZombiU and NBA 2K13 will be available on the eShop starting today. The addition of a ZombiU demo is particularly welcome as many people on the game’s Miiverse community are constantly asking if the game is any good. There’s conflicting reviews everywhere with some loving it while others outright hate it. A demo will give those on the fence a good idea of whether they like the nuanced brilliance of Ubisoft’s survival horror title.

As for NBA 2K13, the Wii U version only offers minimal Gamepad support with details on players’ moods, fatigue levels and more being displayed on the second screen. Still, basketball fans who own a Wii U should give it a shot to see if whets their appetite for sports gaming.

As for full games, the 3DS eShop is getting a number of titles this week. These games include Meat or Die: Ines, Hello Kitty Picnic with Sanrio Friends, Reel Fishing 3D Paradise Mini, Wild Adventures: Ultimate Deer Hunt 3D, 101 DinoPets 3D and Biorhythm.

The Wii gets some love this week as well with a single update for the Virtual Console. ADK’s World Heroes 2 is available for 900 Wii points. If you have a hankering for some classic fighting games, this just might do it.

  • The Nintendo eShop Update Is Full Of RPGs This Week

Wii U owners must be a little frustrated by the apparent lack of content hitting the console’s eShop since its launch, and that trend is going to continue for a while longer. Until then, those who own a 3DS will be able to snag some impressive JRPGs to tide them over.

Nintendo announced the latest titles hitting the 3DS eShop today, and two JRPGs are the headliners. First up is Unchained Blades, the first person dungeon crawler from XSEED Games that already launched on PSP late last year. Just like the PSP release, the 3DS version is only available digitally, but that shouldn’t stop you from having some fun with what looks like a solid dungeon crawler.

The other JRPG hitting the eShop is Atlus’ Code of Princess that launched at retail late last year. Calling it a RPG is a bit of a stretch since it shares more gameplay design elements with the beat ’em ups of yore instead of a modern action RPG, but it features the character development that you expect out of any JRPG. If you enjoy games like Castle Crashers, but wish it had a more Japanese aesthetic – Code of Princess may be the game for you.

Another major 3DS release this week is a title called Gunman Clive. It’s an old-school action platformer with a unique sketch shaded art style. The best thing it may have going for it is its price – $1.99. When all the other major releases on the eShop are going for $7 or more, it’s nice to see a cheap title from time to time.

Other games launching on the eShop this week include Air Battle Hockey 3D, Galaxy Saver and Snowboard Xtreme. The latter two can be accessed via the 3DS or the DSi.

Finally, Nintendo Video has been updated with the best videos from 2012. Obviously, the always brilliant Dinosaur Office makes an appearance, but popular music videos like Linkin Park’s “Burn It Down” and Big Time Rush’s “Windows Down” are also making a repeat appearance.

  • Wario Land 2 Lands On 3DS Virtual Console This Week

Besides the excellent Crimson Shroud, Nintendo’s eShop has been devoid of any decent games the past few weeks. This week’s update contains a few notable games, but the real treat is a blast from the past.

Headlining the 3DS eShop update this week is the rerelease of Wario Land 2. The second game in the Wario spin-off series introduces a number of whacky gimmicks that help Mario’s worse-half get through some sticky situations as he takes on Captain Syrup.

Other titles hitting the 3DS eShop this week include escapeVektor, 2 Fast 4 Gnomz, Mario Tennis Open, Pilotwings Resort, Pokemon Rumble Blast, 3G Game Collection, BIT.TRIP SAGA, PIX3D, Riding Stables 3D, Anonymous Notes Chapter 3 – From The Abyss, Cake Ninja: XMAS and Castle Conqueror – Heroes 2.

Continuing its support for New Super Mario Bros. 2, Nintendo is also releasing two new DLC Coin Rush course packs. The “Mystery Adventures Pack” and “Impossible Pack” are available from the in-game shop.

Unfortunately, all is mostly quiet on the Wii U front this week. The only additions are Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune which are shovelware at best and THQ misappropriating resources at worst. Don’t feel down though as the Rayman Legends demo is still available on the eShop. If you haven’t had the chance to check it out, I highly recommend it.

  • Here’s All The Upcoming Games For The Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo streamed one of their impromptu Nintendo Event videos again this morning. The focus this time was squarely on the 3DS with the company showing off the games hitting the handheld this holiday season and beyond. There’s a number of high quality games hitting in November with even more coming out next year.

So what games can we look forward to from Nintendo and third parties over the coming months? It would be a pain to list the huge amount of games coming out soon so Nintendo has graciously supplied a sizzle reel to do the job for me. Here’s what you can expect over the next few months:

It doesn’t just stop with full retail games though. Nintendo is pushing eShop content more than even before with the 3DS. Her’s all the eShop titles and virtual console games coming to the 3DS over the next few months:

It looks like Nintendo 3DS owners are going to be busy over the next few months. I still haven’t completed the majority of my 3DS games so all these new games are looking a little intimidating. I can only thank my lucky stars that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate was delayed into next year.

  • More Retail Titles Launch On The Nintendo 3DS eShop This Week

More Retail Titles Launch On The Nintendo 3DS eShop This Week

Nintendo has been testing the waters of digital content delivery for some time now. The 3DS eShop was their first real effort to bring full games to players everywhere via digital delivery. They took it one step further when they made New Super Mario Bros. 2 available day-one as a digital download. Now they’re making their back catalog available via this method.

Nintendo announced today that four hit 3DS games are now available on the 3DS eShop. Gamers can buy Super Mario 3D Land, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 64 3D and Mario Kart 7 from the comfort of their 3DS systems. The games cost $39.99 each because Nintendo still hasn’t figured out digital pricing.

The other games available this week via the eShop include Style Savvy: Trendsetters, Sparkle Snapshots 3D, Moshi Monsters Moshlings Theme Park, and Puzzler World XL. As for Virtual Console titles, you’ll be able to pick up Gradius. If you like shmups and missed out on the original, I highly recommend it.

The Wil gets one lonely update today with Reel Fishing Ocean Challenge on WiiWare. As you can guess, it’s a fishing game that features “exotic fishing locales” and “tons of tackle.” I’m sure it will be a hit among the three people who still playing fishing games.

This week’s eShop update is a little on boring side, but there’s gonna be some great content next week. Level 5’s first eShop game, Liberation Maiden, will be hitting the eShop next week. It’s a shmup created by Suda 51, the mind behind this year’s Lollipop Chainsaw.

  • Nintendo Offers One Free Month Of Hulu Plus

It’s another week and that means another Nintendo Download. The company is still celebrating the Month of Mario with sales on classic Mario games. While the 3DS and Wii U receives all the attention these days, Nintendo would like to remind you that the Wii still exists. That’s why they’re offering a free month of Hulu Plus to all Wii owners.

You heard that right, folks. All Wii owners, starting tomorrow, can get access to a free month of Hulu Plus. It’s all to celebrate the launch of the Hulu Plus Family Section which is available exclusively on the Wii platform. It’s similar to the Netflix Just for Kids option, but Hulu claims to have such beloved child properties like Bratz, Caillou and Dragon Ball Z. It’s nowhere near as good as Netflix’ option, but we all can’t have an exclusive agreement with The Hub.

Aside from the Hulu Plus trial offer, users can also download 3D sports highlights this week on the 3DS. Some folks really seem to like watching sports on 3D televisions, so the glasses free 3DS only makes sense. They didn’t announce any specific sports reels, but they did say that it would be “this summer’s biggest sporting events in stop-motion 3D.”

As for games, this week sees the release of Commando: Steel Disaster. The game puts players into the role of a specialist named Storm in a game that looks very much like Metal Slug. If you like side scrolling action games, you might want to give this one a shot.

The other games hitting this week include Touch Battle Tank 3D for the 3DS eShop and Real Bout Fatal Fury Special for the Virtual Console. Both games will satisfy your itch for arcade action with Fatal Fury being the real standout. If you haven’t treated yourself to an SNK fighter yet, there’s no better time than the present.

As for the Month of Mario discount, this week sees Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins going on sale for $2.99. Super Mario Land 2 was the first game to feature Wario and it’s easily one of the best Mario games ever made.

  • Super Mario Land Continues The Celebration Of All Things Mario This Week

Nintendo is continuing its Month of Mario promotion that was started last week to celebrate the impending launch of New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS. Last week saw the original Super Mario Bros. discounted to a lower price. This week’s discounted game is for one of the strangest Mario games ever made.

Super Mario Land, which originally debuted on the Game Boy, is the discounted Mario title for the week. If you ever had the chance to play the classic platformer, you know that Super Mario Land is one of the strangest Mario titles ever made. It features a vastly different world from any other Mario game with enemies that the franchise has yet to see again including aliens and evil Sphinxes.

As for new games this week, the eShop is host to The Lost Town – The Jungle. It’s an original action/adventure title for the DSi and 3DS that puts the player in the role of Chilia. As Chilia, players will have to navigate the jungle to find a meteorite that has covered the land in darkness.

The other game available this week is 3D Solitaire. It’s available only on the 3DS as the title implies. If you have been feeling the need to play solitaire in glasses free 3D, this is the game for you.

Other updates this week include a new episode of Dinosaur Office and the beginning of a series of videos covering the features in New Super Mario Bros. 2. The first video covers the Rainbow Courses in the game that give players an opportunity to collect more coins than they know what to do with.

  • Nintendo Kicks Off A Month Of Mario Starting Today

Mario is still probably the most recognizable chap in video games today. There are others like Master Chief, Kratos and Angry Birds, but everybody instantly knows who Mario is. That’s why Nintendo is kicking off The Month of Mario today to celebrate the launch of the newest entry in the series – New Super Mario Bros. 2.

Before we get to the celebration, let’s take a look at the other games hitting the Nintendo Download today. First up is the classic Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. It’s arguably the best of the Super Mario Land games on the Game Boy and it’s Wario’s first starring role.

The other Game Boy classic hitting the virtual console today is Mole Mania. A puzzle game designed by Shigeru Miyamoto himself, Mole Mania puts you in the role of Muddy Mole as he attempts to defeat Jinbe, an evil farmer.

New eShop originals this week include Planet Crashers and Dot Runner: Complete Edition. Planet Crashers is an original action/adventure RPG filled with multiple dungeons to explore. Dot Runner is a Pacman clone of sorts where the goal is to eat all the dots in a dungeon within a certain time limit.

The Game of the Weekend falls to Colors! 3D this time. It’s a painting application for the 3DS that “caters to everyone from serious artists to aimless doodlers.” It’s available on the eShop at a special price of $3.99 for a limited time.

As for The Month Of Mario, starting today a different Mario game will be discounted each week until August 19. This week’s discounted game is the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES. It’s available for the slightly reduced price of $3.99 until August 1. Pick up a little practice on the original before you jump into the coin-obsessed world of New Super Mario Bros. 2.

  • Nintendo Announces 3DS eShop Content for March

Nintendo announced some great content for European Wii and 3DS owners this March. It seems a lot of that content will be hitting the U.S. 3DS eShop as well.

Nintendo of America announced today their lineup for the Nintendo 3DS eShop for the month of March. There’s some big games coming this month, with one of the biggest additions being the classic Game Gear games that will be heading toward the European eShop as well.

The major game release this month will be Ketzal’s Corridors, an Aztec-themed action-puzzle game. All we know is that its a shape-matching puzzle game. Sounds pretty generic, but Nintendo is really pushing it so it must have something special.

The Game Gear games being offered are the same as those being offered in Europe with the initial offering including Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble, Shinobi and Dragon Crystal.

The major NES release this month will be Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream (Mike Tyson). I never was much a fan, but I really hope they get Mike Tyson’s likeness back one day for the Punch-Out!! franchise. It will launch on March 8.

eShop games built specifically for the 3DS are getting a boost this month with Fun! Fun! Minigolf TOUCH! which sounds like a bad Japanese game show, but it claims to be a regular golf game. I still think it’s a Japanese game show, but we’ll find out on March 8.

Zombie Slayer Diox is apparently the 3DS sequel to Rock of the Dead as both games come from the same publisher. Zombie Slayer Diox, however, features a samurai guitarist that kills zombies with his impressive rock skills. You can rock zombies to death starting March 22.

Arc Style Soccer!! 3D comes from the fine folks at ArcSystem Works who have traded in the crazy fighting antics of BlazBlue to create a soccer game. It’s no FIFA, but it should appease the three soccer fans remaining in the U.S. It will be available sometime in March or April.

Two demos of retail 3DS games will also release on the store this month with Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure and Crush 3D vying for your attention and your money.

It looks like Nintendo is getting serious about supporting the eShop, but they were this aggressive with the launch of the Virtual Console as well. The true test will be how long Nintendo supports the service a few years down the road.
