  • Timeline of An Office Romance [Infographic]

From the fine folks at MTV, here comes a frighteningly accurate infographic featuring the evolution – and devolution – of an office romance.

Infographics have become all the rage lately. And, they are a good way to present information in an easy-to-digest format, putting relevant pieces of information together in one place, but without too much textual drag. Charts, graphs and other visual aids feature heavily in infographs.

Some infographics “flow” better than others. Well-designed ones highlight important information, contain accurate facts – but no typos. Just because someone hacks up an infographic doesn’t mean everything in it is accurate. Or spelled correctly.

This one is just for fun. But it still gets points for accuracy.

  • Colbert Report Cancels Tapings Due To “Unforeseen Circumstances”

Anyone who tuned in to the second half of Comedy Central’s nighttime comedy block last night saw a new episode of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, but a rerun of The Colbert Report (a new episode with interview guest Claire Danes was scheduled).

We now know that the reason for the rerun is that Comedy Central has cancelled taping of the hit show due to “unforeseen circumstances.” Comedy Central VP Steve Albani told Politico that “the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, February 15th and Thursday, February 16th.”

Here’s a tweet from a staff member of The Colbert Report who seems to be in the dark about all of this as well:

Yes I work at the Colbert Report and No I dont know why the show is off for 2 nights. 37 minutes ago via HootSuite ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

People who were set to attend the tapings have hit the interwebs, one even posting the email they received from the show regarding the cancellations to twitpic:

For those of you with bad eyes, that says “due to unforeseen circumstances, we have cancelled our taping for the date of your ticket reservation….We are very sorry for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, we are unable to reschedule your tickets.”

Something like this is unprecedented for the Colbert Report. As Huffington Post points out, Jon Stewart’s Daily Show has only been suspended like this due to personal reasons – the birth of a child and a death to someone close to him.

It’s expected that production should resume soon:

There’s no indication of any corporate drama re: Colbert’s unforeseen absence. Comedy Central expects to be back to new episodes soon. 1 hour ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

  • Whitney Houston’s Funeral Will Be Streaming Live

When Whitney Houston died suddenly over the weekend she left behind scores of shocked fans. While her cause of death remains in doubt, funeral arrangements for the pop star have proceeded. On Tuesday it was announced that Houston’s funeral would be a small, private affair. The service is to be held at noon on Friday at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Attendance is by invitation only.

The announcement of the small, private funeral without any larger public ceremony left some fans feeling excluded and disappointed. Now it looks like they’ll get to attend Houston’s funeral after all, in a way. According to a report from CNN, the service will be broadcast live online.

The live stream will be available to view from a variety of news sources when the funeral starts tomorrow at noon. The guest list is rumored to include a number of big-name stars, some of whom will perform at the service. Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston’s godmother, is slated to perform. Guests include Chaka Khan, Jesse Jackson, gospel singers BeBe and CeCe Winans (whose brother Marvin is delivering the eulogy), and Dionne Warwick.

While Houston’s autopsy was completed within days of her death, her cause of death has not been released pending a toxicology report. She was found in the bathtub of her room at the Beverly Hilton Saturday evening. Her death led to a last-minute overhaul of Sunday’s Grammy Awards ceremony, which included a stirring tribute by Jennifer Hudson.

  • Ghost Hunters Co-Lead Investigator, Grant Wilson, Leaves The Show

Last night on Ghost Hunters, co-lead investigator, Grant Wilson, announced that he was departing from the show.

Of the departure, Wilson said, “It is with mixed emotion that I am announcing my departure from the cast of Ghost Hunters. While paranormal investigating has always been and will remain a passion for me, after enjoying nearly eight successful seasons on television, I have made the decision to leave the series in order to focus on other aspects of my personal life.

I will deeply miss working with Jason and the rest of the dedicated investigators and crew that have become like family, and I wish them all the best as they continue to follow their passion and realize the vision of TAPS.

I will also miss interacting with our wonderful fans worldwide. You are all at the heart of what we do on Ghost Hunters, and I’m grateful to have gotten to know many of you over the years.

Thank you to Syfy and Pilgrim Studios for giving me the opportunity to do what I love for nearly eight years, and for supporting this difficult decision.

Wilson’s depature announcement came as quite a shock to fans, but an announcement had been teased had been teased by the cast and crew for about a week.

Jason Hawes, TAPS co-founder, and co-lead investigator with Wilson, had the following to say:

“When Grant and I founded TAPS nearly 20 years ago, we never imagined that we would be able to make such an impact just by doing what we enjoy every day. I will miss working with Grant on a daily basis, and am indebted to the level of dedication and expertise he has brought to our field.

I can’t imagine having a better partner through it all – both on the show and off. Grant and I, along with our spouses and children, are all like one big family. While I fully support his decision to move on from the series, this longtime friendship – as well as our business partnership – will continue off-camera for years to come.”

Are you a fan of the show? What do you think about Grant’s depature? Let us know in the comments.

  • Chris Brown, Dave Mustaine, and The Best In Show

Twitter is a wonderful place for one-liners. To be funny on the site, you’ve got to be sharp and practice economy of language. You’ve only got 140 characters to make an impression.

And what better way to wind-down the work day than with a selection of some of the day’s most entertaining tweets.

    Enjoy!

  • TED Exhibition To Include Music Experiment

TED Exhibition To Include Music Experiment

A Simon Fraser University graduate student project that melds music, meditation and modern technology has landed a rare spot as an exhibit at TEDActive 2012 in Palm Springs, California this month.

Jay Vidyarthi’s project, Sonic Cradle, allows individuals to use their breathing to shape musical sounds while they sit suspended in a totally dark chamber. The experience is described as “meditation for the non-meditator.”

“The idea grew from my desire to explore how technology can be used to free us from the stress associated with information overload,” says Vidyarthi, who is pursuing a master’s degree in SFU Surrey’s School of Interactive Arts and Technology.

Vidyarthi and his supervisor Bernhard Riecke, who heads up SIAT’s new iSpace lab, have been invited to display Sonic Cradle as part of the prestigious TEDActive TechArt exhibition. During the week-long conference participants will be able to try 15-minute meditative sessions.
Vidyarthi says the project was accepted despite being primarily a design research artifact rather than a piece of art.

Developed last spring, Sonic Cradle provides a digitized compendium of musical sound bites from 30 musicians from across North America, including recordings of falling rain, flute and guitar arrangements, meditative chimes and even spoken poetry.

Breathing stimulates the sound patterns, which are unique to each ‘cradle’ visit, says Vidyarthi, a musician who earlier studied psychophysics and neuroscience at McGill University.

“As an interactive medium, the project shows that a well-designed, minimalist system that embodies an understanding of human psychology can engage people in a way which provides psychological benefit,” Vidyarthi says.

Sonic Cradle demonstrates technology’s potential to be engaging and immersive without being over-stimulating, he adds. “It may pave the way for more systems which reject the typical goals of productivity in favour of self-knowledge, inner peace and a sense of calm.”

The researchers plan further study on how the system physiologically affects people. The creation of a handheld mobile version of Sonic Cradle is also possible.

As the one who has spent the most time in Sonic Cradle, Vidyarthi says, “when you remove all the distractions, it can feel something like leaving the planet.”

Check out this video on the Sonic Cradle experience. Headphones are a real plus.

  • Chris Brown is Twitter’s Lastest Victim

The Twitter killer is at it again, and its latest victim is someone who, in all honesty, the Twitter Killer should’ve targeted after first. At least that way, we would’ve been spared from seeing his Grammy performance. Way to go, CBS. Glorifying a woman beater like that. What’s next? A lifetime achievement award for the now-deceased Ike Taylor for the way he “trained” Tina Turner?

Anyway, Brown is the latest victim of the “RIP _____” Twitter trend, which is great in and of itself because Chris Brown bashing never gets old. I’m sorry, I have no empathy for someone who beats the crap out of a woman, no matter how many misguided Twitter users say it’s OK, like these tween sycophants right here:

So annoying when people dislike Chris Brown for what he done to Rihanna. If the tables where turned you’d say nothing. 3 hours ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Aw i feel so bad For Chris brown People still cant get over the whole Rihanna Thing. People make mistakes. Chris brown is human just like u! 14 hours ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Perhaps Twitter should start a new service for the tween generation only. That way, the signal-to-noise ratio would improve. Rapidly. Anyway, as for the Twitter Killer claiming Chris Brown as its latest victim, Twitter had fun with that, too. In fact, it every time one of these RIP trends pop up, there’s a race to see who can be the wittiest in relation to “Twitter has killed more people than ____” tweets. See for yourself:

RIP Chris Brown? Twitter has killed more black people then Hurricane Katrina. 10 hours ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

RIP Chris Brown? More people have died on twitter than Alderaan. 1 hour ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

And then there are those who like to have some fun, especially at the expense of a person like Chris Brown:

Some, however, have tried to bastardize the trend, saying “RIP” stands for “Real Inspiring Person.” Sigh. To that, all I can do is echo the following:

“Reall Inspiring Person / RIP Chris Brown” you kidding me? Inspiring people DO NOT beat up women. 2 hours ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

    Good times, good times.

I wonder how all those wonder-geniuses who would let Chris Brown punch them — you know, because he’s so fine, or something — feel now that their hero is being absolutely ridiculed on Twitter yet again? Are they mourning the “loss” of such a fine, upstanding member of our society?

  • Global Entertainment Industry Sees Growth

The world has been long addicted to media-driven entertainment, since the time of black and white TV, and now with digital content making it’s way into every mobile device, plasma screen, music player, satellite phone, video game console, etc., the demand is growing, which bodes well for the forecast of the global entertainment industry. According to a study by Global Industry Analysts, the digitization of media content has profoundly changed how entertainment is delivered, driving industry growth, which is expected to hit 1.5 trillion dollars by 2015.

Regardless of the recession, entertainment industry revenues remained consistent in their expansion, in part due to the level of escapism provided to the consumer. Though, there has been a shift in what modes of entertainment people have been setting aside budgets for. Mainly, cheaper media such as movies and video games were at the forefront, while live entertainment, such as sporting events and concerts, have not been as popular.

Video games in particular have been gaining traction, regardless of the toughest recessionary periods. This has been due to a larger amount of game formats, across a greater number of platforms, catering to a larger audience. The online capability of traditional consoles, which support massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG’s), along with downloadable games for mobile devices have also changed the way games are being distributed.

Cinema has also gained ground with the growing popularity of 3D screens, and cinema multiplex chains have been likewise expanding, to accomodate more moviegoers. The worldwide box office hit $32 billion in 2010, up from $30 billion the year before.

  • Jeremy Lin’s Game-Winner Keeps Linsanity Going Strong

Apparently, last night was supposed to be the beginning of the end of Linsanity as New York Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni reintroduced Amare Stoudemire to the starting lineup. The thinking is once these established players made their way back to the Knicks’ rotation, it would cut down on Lin’s touches and attempts from the field.

Perhaps this fear resides more with the upcoming return of Carmelo Anthony, but there were some rumblings of disrupting the chemistry the Knicks suddenly discovered as soon as Lin’s meteoric rise up the NBA trends chart began. After winning his first four games as the Knicks starting point guard and becoming the new hot trend in relation to sports — move over Tim Tebow, football is done for the time being. The Jeremy Lin trend has been well-documented in a number of publications, culminating in a Will Leitch love note to the white-hot Lin.

So how did Lin respond with the reintroduction of Stoudemire — a player who demands the basketball — into the starting lineup? By winning the game with a 3-point shot as the clock was winding down. If you’re a SportsCenter viewer, you’ve no doubt seen the highlight by now, but there’s nothing wrong with reliving it again:

Down goes Toronto, thanks the Lin’s 3-bomb. As is the case whenever something trendy happens, Twitter again exploded; and, in fact, the trend is still quite active this morning, as the Twitter love for Lin is indeed strong:

D’antoni’s post was retweed over 10,000 times. Of course, considering the bomb he dropped on Floyd Mayweather, these rebroadcasts were well deserved. I actually agree with this sentiment to a degree. If you take out the Lakers win (against a Lakers team that was playing the final game of a six-game east coast road trip), the combined winning record of the teams Jeremy Lin the Knicks have beaten since Lin took the stage is 58-87. While Lin does deserve the praise he’s getting, I’m curious to see how he does against the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls, especially once Derrick Rose’s back gets healthy.

In light of that, here’s a humorous tweet that directly connects Lin to the world of ebusiness, courtesy of the Winkelvi:

A viral video is one that becomes popular through the process of Internet sharing, via social media, sharing sites, or good ‘ole email. Everyday we highlight some of the best that are currently viral and some that are trending that way.

Today’s videos feature a crap-ton of Valentine’s Day material, an argentinian boxing match gone wrong, russian partying, & the coolest pool table ever.

It’s a bit cynical for my taste, but I do agree with one of the points…people have the potential to look like assholes when they sit side-by-side in a restaurant. (Warning: NSFW – language)

Puppy Conan has taken over the television, internets, and now the world. Oh, Puppy Flava Flav > Flava Flav.

Here’s how you go from boxing to wrasslin’, to a game of musical chairs gone wrong.

I think this is the last of the “powder based food challenge” videos I’m ever going to post. I think the moral from all of them is even if you win the challenges, you still lose.

One of the more powerful Valentine’s Day messages I’ve seen today. Kind of puts it in perspective.

  • Whitney Houston Funeral Closed To Public

Whitney Houston will be honored friday at noon in a funeral service at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Houston was found dead in her Beverly Hills hotel room Saturday afternoon. Officials are still waiting on toxicology reports to determine the cause of her death, but many believe it could have been the result of an interaction between drugs and alcohol in her system. She was found unconscious in her bath tub and it is possible that she became unconscious, slipped under the water, and drowned.

Alan Jacobs, who was head of security for Houston for nearly a decade, was interviewed by Good Morning America today and he revealed some interest details about the pop singers life. When asked about her drug abuse, he claims that he never saw her use anything, but that he did see some traumatic effects as a result of use:

“The reality of it is, that you can protect someone from everything, but you cannot protect them from themselves,”

“Whatever was going on, was not something that was in control, and certainly was something I felt needed to be addressed. so I took action to address it. I eliminated access to her by certain people that I thought were negative influences.”

Jacobs reports that he tried to speak to Whitney about her drug abuse and he also spoke to her husband, Bobby Brown to warn him, but it was not welcome concern from either party. He explains:

“I said, ‘you hired me to do a job, to protect you … but I cannot protect you from yourselves.’ I took a stand and it was about four months later that we decided to part company,”

“It would seem that a closer eye might have been kept, but there again there’s an old saying that the boss may not always be right, but the boss is always the boss.”

Her service at the New Hope Baptist Church will be attended by invitation only, but there are plans for a larger service to be held at the New Jersey’s Prudential Center which could accommodate as many as 20,000 guests. Nothing has been announced yet but we will be following the story.

That’s because the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue has dropped. And unlike your father’s SI Swimsuit Issue, you won’t have to flip through pages to see this year’s models.

The SI Swimsuit Digital Editions are ready to go and are now available for download on your iPad, Android tablet, Nook Color, or Kindle Fire. Other than the ability to zoom, digital edition buyers will have access to a variety of extras including extra photos and videos. SI makes a point to say that the digital editions go “well beyond the printed magazine.” For instance, here’s what you can expect on the iPad version:

Video Q&As with each model and profiles of the rookie class.
Behind-the-scenes video footage of the bodypainting shoot, featuring athletes Natalie Coughlin, Natalie Gulbis and Alex Morgan.
On-location videos from Australia, the Gulf Coast, Panama, the Seychelles and Zambia.
“Beauties and the Beats”- a collection of songs that capture the feel of Swimsuit from 18 of today’s hottest bands, including Black Lips, Delta Spirit and White Denim.

There are some minor details when you switch tablets, but most of the special features remain the same. For the iPad and other Android tablets, users can download the issue through the Sports Illustrated app. The app itself is free but the Swimsuit Issue will run you $6.99. For the Nook, you can download the e-book for $6.99 as well.

  • “Goodnight iPad” Is A Bedtime Story For The Tech Age

Have you ever wanted a children’s book that speaks to the current tech obsessed generation? You’re in luck then.

Ann Droyd brings us a parody of “Goodnight Moon” called “Goodnight iPad.” The book is billed as “A parody for the next generation.” It’s a bedtime story like the stories we grew up with that calmed our hearts and taught us valuable lessons.

What lesson is that, you ask? We’ll let the book’s summary fill you in:

Like the rest of us who cannot resist just a few more scrolls and clicks, you may find yourself ready for bed while still clinging to your electronics long after dark. This book, which is made of paper, is a reminder for the child in all of us to power down at the end of the day. This hilarious parody not only pokes loving fun at the bygone quiet of the original classic, but also at our modern plugged-in lives. It will make you laugh, and it will also help you put yourself and your machines to sleep. Don’t worry, though. Your gadgets will be waiting for you, fully charged, in the morning.

I know that I’m like a kid when it comes to technology and can not bring myself away from it, even for sleep. The book is a fun, little parody that’s good for both parents and their kids. It’s no “Go the F**k to Sleep,” but it’s hard to match that.

Here’s an animated version of the book:

  • Young Hollywood Network Talks New YouTube Channel

YouTube’s move to back original programming on its site is beginning to get carried out as many new channels are launching. Last year, the video portal announced that it would be adding more than 100 channels of professionally produced content from various media and production companies.

The Young Hollywood Network (YHN) is one of the new partners, and it launched its channel last month. The channel, of course, focuses on the entertainment industry and produces a new show 6 days a week.

RJ Williams, CEO of Young Hollywood Network “We wanna really create appointment-viewing television,” said RJ Williams, the CEO and Founder of YHN.

Williams told us that YHN had been a partner with YouTube for 3 years, but, prior to its recent launch, it had not produced content exclusive to YouTube. However, when talk of YouTube’s efforts began to spread, YHN began to talk to the video giant and explain what type of network they could create.

Since the channel’s launch last month, Williams said subscribers have greatly increased and that their engagement level is much higher as well. As he explained, viewers would typically stop watching after a minute or so, but now they’re watching for longer periods of time. He believes YouTube is quickly becoming a place for “destination viewing.”

“YouTube’s changed… because it’s exclusive content you can’t find anywhere else,” said Williams.

“If you want to see a specific show or a specific celebrity, you’re gonna go to YouTube,” he added.

Jim Louderback, the CEO of Revision3, spoke with us not long after YouTube made its announcement and told us that he believed the new channels would raise the bar of professionalism on the video platform. In spite of this benefit, he did point out that these channels could have some challenges with promoting themselves since there are so many veteran channels to compete against.

Williams admitted that it would be challenging but said that all the partners involved with YouTube’s initiative would need to help each other succeed.

“For this to work, everybody in the ecosystem needs to feed off one another, and they need to promote each other,” he said.

He went on to say that the players that come up with innovative ways to promote the others would be the ones who would survive.

Can the new channels compete with tried and true ones? What do you think?

  • Taylor Swift’s ‘Safe & Sound’ Music Video – The Hunger Games Theme Song

Taylor Swift’s ‘Safe & Sound’ Music Video – The Hunger Games Theme Song

If you’re a fan of Taylor Swift and are looking forward to the upcoming release of ‘The Hunger Games‘, then you’re going to have a great Valentine’s Day. The theme song for The Hunger Games, ‘Safe & Sound’, was written by Taylor Swift, specifically for the movie. There’s now a music video to go along with the song.

I’ve always been in the camp that doesn’t necessarily like Taylor Swift’s music, but respects her for writing and performing her own music, while making it big. The video is vaguely tied to The Hunger Games, as she finds a mockingjay pin.

The Hunger Games looks to be one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year; based upon the New York Times-best selling series. The book is regarded as one of the most successful e-books, selling over one million copies on the Amazon Kindle. Putting Suzanne Collins, the author of the book, in the rare “Kindle Million Club”. A feat only shared by six other authors.

  • Online Dating: How To Spot a Liar

Online Dating: How To Spot a Liar

Online dating is rough enough when people are all above-board and honest about themselves, their past, their plans and preferences. But, when you throw dishonesty into the mix, it can get ugly fast. No one wants to wind up investing time in ursine a relationship that started off on lies, online or off.

Two professors are now shedding some light on how liars behave on online dating sites.

“Generally, people don’t want to admit they’ve lied,” says Catalina Toma, communication science professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. “But we don’t have to rely on the liars to tell us about their lies. We can read their handiwork.”

Using personal descriptions written for Internet dating profiles, Toma and Jeffrey Hancock, communication professor at Cornell University, have identified clues as to whether the author was being deceptive.

The researchers compared the actual height, weight and age of 78 online daters to their profile information and photos on four matchmaking websites. A linguistic analysis of the group’s written self-descriptions published in the February issue of the Journal of Communication revealed patterns in the liars’ writing.

The more deceptive a dater’s profile, the less likely they were to use the first-person pronoun “I.”

“Liars do this because they want to distance themselves from their deceptive statements,” Toma says.

The liars often employed negation, a flip of the language that would restate “happy” as “not sad” or “exciting” as “not boring.” And the fabricators tended to write shorter self-descriptions in their profiles — a hedge, Toma expects, against weaving a more tangled web of deception.

“They don’t want to say too much,” Toma says. “Liars experience a lot of cognitive load. They have a lot to think about. They less they write, the fewer untrue things they may have to remember and support later.”

Liars were also careful to skirt their own deception. Daters who had lied about their age, height or weight or had included a photo the researchers found to be less than representative of reality, were likely to avoid discussing their appearance in their written descriptions, choosing instead to talk about work or life achievements.

The toolkit of language clues gave the researchers a distinct advantage when they re-examined their pool of 78 online daters.

“The more deceptive the self-description, the fewer times you see ‘I,’ the more negation, the fewer words total — using those indicators, we were able to correctly identify the liars about 65 percent of the time,” Toma says.

A success rate of nearly two-thirds is a commanding lead over the untrained eye. In a second leg of their study, Toma and Hancock asked volunteers to judge the daters’ trustworthiness based solely on the written self-descriptions posted on their online profiles.

“We asked them to tell us how trustworthy the person who wrote each profile was. And, as we expected, people are just bad at this,” Toma says. “They might as well have flipped a coin … They’re looking at the wrong things.”

About 80 percent of the 78 profiles in the study, which was supported by the National Science Foundation, strayed from the truth on some level.

“Almost everybody lied about something, but the magnitude was often small,” Toma says.

Weight was the most frequent transgression, with women off by an average of 8.5 pounds and men missing by 1.5 pounds on average. Half lied about their height, and nearly 20 percent changed their age.

Studying lying through online communication such as dating profiles opens a door on a medium in which the liar has more room to maneuver.

“Online dating is different. It’s not a traditional interaction,” Toma says.

For one, it’s asynchronous. The back-and-forth of an in-person conversation is missing, giving a liar the opportunity to respond at their leisure or not at all. And it’s editable, so the first telling of the story can come out exactly like the profile-writer would like.

“You have all the time in the world to say whatever you want,” Toma says. “You’re not expected to be spontaneous. You can write and rewrite as many times as you want before you post, and then in many cases return and edit yourself.”

Toma says the findings are not out of line with what we know about liars in face-to-face situations.

“Online daters’ motivations to lie are pretty much the same as traditional daters’,” she says. “It’s not like a deceptive online profile is a new beast, and that helps us apply what we can learn to all manners of communication”

But don’t go looking just yet for the dating site that employs Toma’s linguistic analysis as a built-in lie detector.

“Someday there may be software to tell you how likely it is that the cute person whose profile you’re looking at is lying to you, or even that someone is being deceptive in an e-mail,” Toma says. “But that may take a while.”

  • A Valentine’s Day Rube Goldberg Device For Your Wining, Dining, And Sexy-Timing

A Valentine’s Day Rube Goldberg Device For Your Wining, Dining, And Sexy-Timing

Tuesday, February 14th is Valentine’s Day and let’s face it: all of your posturing about “corporate holiday” this and “let’s be untraditional this year” that is probably not going to fly with your significant other. You’re going to have to do something – so why not make a quick little Rube Goldberg device? Nothing says “I love you” like intricate planning.

This video, courtesy of 2D Photography, shows what a successful date night Rube Goldberg device would look like. Not only does it pour the wine and set both the mood music and the mood lighting – but it does something particularly spectacular at the end. Let’s just say that it helps guys with a certain mechanical problem that many of us seem to have.

    Check it out below:

The folks behind the video have made other Rube Goldberg devices that have gone viral. Apparently, this one didn’t take too long at all:

Here’s our latest Rube Goldberg video. We had this idea really last minute and wanted to pump it out before V-day. This was a completely in house project and by far our fastest Rube. They’re usually quite time consuming and so getting this done in a few days was a nice treat for us.

    Impressive, I’d say.

If you’re like me (and most of the YouTube commenters), one of the first things you noticed (other than the device) was the borderline creepy laughtrack. 2D Photography says that they added all of that awkward giggling after the fact just for the hell of it.

Today, YouTube unveiled their Valentine’s Day Slam where users can vote on the best proposal videos across the site. Part of me thinks the bra-magic was the best way to end this, and the slightly more romantic part of me thinks a ring would have been even better. Now that would have been a proposal.

  • Whitney Houston: Suicide Is Not The Cause?

Whitney Houston: Suicide Is Not The Cause?

Whitney Houston’s brother-in-law, Billy Watson told ABCNews.com today that:

    “Oh, no, this is accidental,”

“She wouldn’t have left her daughter like that. She wouldn’t have done that to her daughter.”

This comes after Houston was found unconscious in the bathtub on saturday at her Beverly Hills hotel. Because alcohol and prescription drugs were involved, some speculate that Houston may have intentionally done herself in.

Kelly Price, a recent grammy nominee, spent time with Houston on thursday and spoke about Whitney’s mood on the evening and her overall character at the time:

“…[she] didn’t look like she was under the influence of anything. She drank some champagne and toasted Kelly Price’s three Grammy nominations Thursday night. That’s what Whitney Houston did.”

“We laughed and we joked and we cracked up, and we danced and sang,”

To further attest to Whitney’s mood around the time of death is her mother, Cissy Houston, who spoke with her just 30 minutes before she was found dead. Sources report that they spoke about attending the Clive Davis pre-grammy party and that her daughter seemed fine, with nothing out of the ordinary.

Whitney’s cousin, Dionne Warwick also spoke to her on the day of the incident and claims that everything seemed normal. Though it appears that the death was an accident LA County Police are still carrying out a full investigation of the events and behaviors surrounding her death. I will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

  • The Grammys, Valentine’s Day, and Who Is Paul McCartney?

Twitter is a wonderful place for one-liners. To be funny on the site, you’ve got to be sharp and practice economy of language. You’ve only got 140 characters to make an impression.

And what better way to wind-down the work day than with a selection of some of the day’s most entertaining tweets.

Today’s Twitterverse is still buzzing about the Grammys and an interesting trend emerged out of the ignorance of some young music fans.

    Enjoy!
