Mendix has released a comprehensive study of the low-code market within the enterprise, and it shows how important the technology has become.
Low-code development allows individuals and teams to develop and deploy applications with little or no programming knowledge. Low-code platforms have become a critical part of many organizations’ workflows, allowing multiple departments to contribute to the development of applications and services.
Mendix’s study shows just how important low-code has become, with “77% of enterprises in six countries have already adopted low-code, and 75% of IT leaders said it’s a trend they can’t afford to miss.”
A major factor in the sudden uptick of low-code adoption has been the COVID-19 pandemic. As companies and organizations have transitioned to digital-first workflows, many have used low-code development to enable non-IT personnel to relieve some of the pressure on the IT staff. In fact, 59% of low-code projects involve collaboration between business and IT.
Even among IT professionals, 64% say low-code is their go-to option.
“This study confirms what we’ve long believed,” said Derek Roos, co-founder and CEO of Mendix. “Low-code is the future of software development and Mendix is leading the way. It’s agile by design. It dramatically expands the pool of development talent. It’s built for collaboration and it’s built for rapid development. Low-code, and specifically low-code with Mendix, is fast becoming a core technology enterprises need to succeed in a digital-first world.”
Jamf’s latest quarterly results are good news for the company and for Apple, indicating increased demand for Apple products in the enterprise.
Jamf is a device management firm that specializes in supporting Apple customers. The company was founded in 2002, with the goal to “help organizations succeed with Apple.”
In its latest Q4 results, the company’s revenue hit $76.4 million, growing 34% year-over-year. Yearly revenue was $269.5 million, up 32%.
“We finished 2020 with high growth across every product, geography, and the top 10 industries we serve, demonstrating the strength and diversity of our platform,” said Dean Hager, CEO of Jamf. “As we look to 2021, we’ll continue to expand the breadth and depth of our Apple Enterprise Management platform to enhance our value to customers and accelerate further penetration of Apple in the enterprise.”
Jamf’s results are the latest indication of the inroads Apple is making. Years ago, Apple was known as the computer of choice for creatives, while Windows had a firm stranglehold on the enterprise market. With the iPhone, iPad and modern Macs, Apple has increasingly been prying its way into the market.
T-Mobile launched T-Mobile WFX, its latest Un-carrier move aimed at helping businesses embrace the digital transformation.
CEO Mike Sievert opened the event, highlighting the company’s unrivaled 5G network, which is currently 2.5x larger than AT&T’s and 4x larger than Verizon’s. Sievert then talked about how having the largest 5G network put T-Mobile in a position to help address business pain points, especially in the midst of a pandemic-driven shift to remote work.
“The pandemic pushed the fast forward button on the future of work, giving us a decade’s worth of progress in a year’s time. And it’s clear that work will never be the same,” said Mike Sievert, T-Mobile CEO. “Tomorrow’s workplace won’t be anything like the old work from office (WFO) world, and it won’t be like today’s work from home (WFH) world. It’ll be something new: the work from anywhere (WFX) world. And T-Mobile WFX and our 5G network arrive at the right time to help businesses meet this moment head on … and come out the other side stronger.”
The result is T-Mobile WFX, comprised of three services: T-Mobile Enterprise Unlimited, T-Mobile Home Office Internet and T-Mobile Collaborate.
T-Mobile Enterprise Unlimited
The company points out that Verizon and AT&T has 50% of enterprise employees locked into limited data plans, requiring customers to estimate how much data they’ll use and pay for overages. With data usage expected to increase with 5G, businesses will spend some $2.5 billion over the next five years just in overages.
T-Mobile Enterprise Unlimited is a new plan for businesses to give them unlimited 4G and 5G data at the same or better price than Verizon and AT&T charge for limited, shared pools of data.
T-Mobile Home Office Internet
T-Mobile Home Office Internet is aimed squarely at the remote worker, providing a fast, secure connection for employees. The included router prioritizes employee devices and filters non-business activity, so the connection remains fast and stable. Meanwhile, family members can continue browsing, gaming and watching videos without being impacted.
The device also includes enterprise-grade security, greatly improving security over a standard home WiFi router.
T-Mobile Collaborate
T-Mobile Collaborate is a new product the company is introducing, designed to replace legacy phone systems with a modern, mobile-first, cloud-driven approach.
The service is an enterprise-grade phone system that provides video and voice conferencing. It includes a built-in AI assistant that can take notes and follow up on items, and features integration with Microsoft 365 and other workplace apps.
“From our experience, T-Mobile Collaborate is a modern, cost effective platform that scales with City of Los Angeles employees, so they can do the critical work needed to create a safe, livable, and prosperous city,” said Ted Ross, Chief Technology Officer, City of Los Angeles.
The new service is powered by Dialpad, and T-Mobile has made an equity investment in the company via T-Mobile Ventures.
Pricing
T-Mobile WFX starts at $90 per line per month, while Enterprise Unlimited with T-Mobile Collaborate can be added together starting at $37 per line per month.
I’m a pretty annoying founder. I’m very stubborn and very steadfast. Sort of this is my very strongly held opinion and belief and I’m gonna run into a wall to prove it out. That has certain characteristics that can be annoying at times I’m sure both at the investor level as well as for anybody that is working with me. I’ve been able to tone it down over the years and control it more and contain it. I think it’s not causing probably as much annoyance.
You have to be stubborn and right is the key. Stubborn and wrong means new job. There’s a Venn diagram of stubborn and right and you want to be right in that target zone. I look back when when I was 20, 21, or 22 and learning this trade and there were plenty of times where I was stubborn and wrong where maybe I took too long to pivot.
My co-founder was telling me we’ve got to go enterprise probably for three to six months earlier than we actually did. What are three to six months in compounding terms? I don’t know. Maybe we’d be 20 percent bigger now as a result of if I had not been so stubborn at that stage and not seeing the information in the way that he was? That can just be sometimes an annoying pattern that people run into.
Verizon and Apple will be holding a first-ever joint virtual event for enterprise customers to help them take advantage of the iPhone and 5G.
Verizon has been going all-in on 5G, initialing focusing on high-speed mmWave deployment. During Apple’s October event where it unveiled the iPhone 12, Verizon announced the rollout of its nationwide 5G network. Unlike mmWave, which offers gigabit speed at the cost of extremely limited range, Verizon’s nationwide 5G network uses Dynamic Spectrum Sharing to take advantage of the company’s existing 4G spectrum, switching back and forth as needed.
The iPhone 12 has been widely seen as a potential catalyst, making 5G more accessible and appealing to users. Verizon has been particularly eager to ride the wave, sharing the stage with Apple at the unveiling and now working with the iPhone maker on their joint virtual event.
The event will showcase how business customers can use the new iPhone 12 lineup and Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband to power innovative solutions for industries like manufacturing, field service and healthcare. Business customers using new iPhone 12 models on Verizon’s 5G network have the potential to unlock new experiences with apps that will take advantage of the unprecedented speed, massive capacity and ultra low lag time Verizon 5G can offer.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, November 19 at 1pm ET (10am PT). Interested parties can sign-up via the registration form.
Apple has acquired Fleetsmith, the creator of a device management solution that helps companies manage their Apple devices.
According to the company’s site, their solution “automates device setup, intelligence, patching, and security, for your company’s Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs.”
In a blog post, co-founders Kenneth Kouot and Zack Blum, as well as Jesse Endahl write:

IBM sees workplace management as a critical part of a company’s efforts, one that can improve workflows, boost productivity, cut costs and improve bottom lines.
“Employees and real estate are key elements to organizational growth and development, driving companies to create cost-effective and engaging workplaces that help attract and retain top talent,” said Kareem Yusuf, Ph.D., general manager, AI Applications, IBM. “The implementation of TRIRIGA with embedded AI provides corporations and facility managers with insights into how they can more effectively utilize space across their enterprise. This technology can help companies address the growing expectations of today’s modern workforce and achieve better business results.”
Cybersecurity Ventures estimates that ransomware will attack businesses every 14 seconds by the end of 2019, up from every 40 seconds in 2016. That figure doesn’t even begin to touch attacks on individuals, which occur more frequently than businesses. Even more telling, ransomware is estimated to cost $11.5 billion annually in 2019.
In addition to ransomware, traditional malware continues to be a growing threat. According to Panda Security, some 230,000 new malware samples are created every day. Yet, according to reports, when a breach does occur it takes organizations an average of 197 days to detect it.
In spite of the state of cybersecurity threats, a recent study (PDF press release) sponsored by nCipher Security, and conducted by Ponemon Institute, found that enterprises are leaving themselves vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. Encryption for IoT devices, as well as platforms and data, was only at 28 and 25 percent respectively.
On the plus side, many organizations are relying heavily on public key infrastructure (PKI)—the software, hardware, rules and policies used to manage public-key encryption and digital certificates—to help secure their operations.
“PKI use is evolving as organizations address digital transformation across their enterprises. In addition to IoT, more than 40% of our respondents also cited cloud and mobile initiatives as driving PKI use,” said Dr. Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute. “Clearly, the rapid growth of the IoT is having a huge impact on the use of PKI, as organizations realize that PKI provides core authentication technology for connected devices. For organizations to gain full advantage of their digital initiatives, they must continue to improve the security maturity of their PKIs.”
In spite of this, however, many organizations are running into barriers—both technical and organizational—to successful PKI deployment. This is especially true when upgrading legacy applications, where 46 percent listed issues. In addition, 45 percent cited insufficient skills as an issue, while 38 percent cited limited resources as problem. Even more disturbing, some 30 percent of organizations are not using any certificate revocation techniques.
“The scale of IoT vulnerability is staggering – IDC recently forecasted that there will be 41.6B connected IoT devices by 2025, generating 79.4 zettabytes of data,” said John Grimm, senior director of strategy and business development at nCipher Security. “There is no point in collecting and analyzing IoT-generated data, and making business decisions based upon it, if we cannot trust the security of devices or their data. Building trust starts with prioritizing security practices that counter the top IoT threats, and ensuring authenticity and integrity throughout the IoT ecosystem.”
“As we continue to grow and invest in our brand more and more people are sharing their vehicles,” says Turo CEO Andre Haddad. “With our app, you can actually share your car so that you can earn money when you’re not using your car. Last year we ended the year with more than 400,000 vehicles listed and our community is now more than 10 million strong. We’re growing really rapidly. We’re hoping to be in the next few years in the same realm as ride-sharing and home-sharing.”
Andre Haddad, CEO of Turo, discusses the $250 million in new funding from IAC, the tremendous growth of their car-sharing app, as well as fights with Enterprise Rent-A-Car which has been trying to stop them in their tracks in an interview on CNBC:
We’re Hoping To Be In The Same Realm As Ride-Sharing
Turo is a great business. There are almost one-and-a-half billion cars around the world and they are idle the vast majority of the time. With our app, you can actually share your car so that you can earn money when you’re not using your car. In the last few months, we’ve seen people earning more than $500 a month sharing their car a few days a month. It’s a great opportunity for car owners to share their cars and earn money with them when they’re not using them.
We focus a lot on building trust and safety. We have a great partner with Liberty Mutual to cover all the insurance for both the car owner that is sharing their cars with their guests as well as providing coverage for guests that are driving these cars. It’s all about bringing that new idea to market and building trust and building safety for our community. As we continue to grow and invest in our brand more and more people are sharing their vehicles. Last year we ended the year with more than 400,000 vehicles listed and our community is now more than 10 million strong. We’re growing really rapidly. We’re hoping to be in the next few years in the same realm as ride-sharing and home-sharing.
We’re Very Excited To Partner With IAC
We’re very excited to partner with IAC. IAC is an incredible company that has a lot of expertise in the world of marketplaces. We’re looking forward to collaborating with Joey Levin and the team at IAC to help accelerate our progress and help accelerate our growth. We obviously want to invest more in our expansion. We want to refine our customer experience and we’d like to expand into more markets. Those are the key priorities for us in the next few years.
Over the last few months, we’ve seen that the average host is sharing their vehicle roughly a third of the time, about ten days a month. With that ten days a month they’re earning roughly $550 of earnings on a monthly basis. As you can imagine with $550 of earnings you can pay for your car payment. It’s an incredible deal for a lot of people who are using the app. Traditional ownership implies utilization that’s less than 10 percent of the time. It’s a very inefficient use of an asset that depreciates really rapidly and has a lot of fixed costs. Turo is a tremendous opportunity for people who want to make better use of their asset.
Enterprise Is Trying To Avoid Competition So We’re Fighting Back
We are faced with a lot of challenges on the regulatory front. Really it’s driven by the traditional rental car industry and by Enterprise in particular. I think the traditional car rental players are concerned that consumers now have a bit more choice. They are concerned that we have probably a better selection, better value, and better convenience as an alternative to the traditional options of car rental. We’ve definitely been battling Enterprise this year. There are 37 states in the United States alone where we have gone into government relation battles with Enterprise. They’re trying to pass laws that will restrict the ability for consumers to share their cars. They’re trying to avoid competition so we’re fighting back.
We’ve been building a strong coalition of like-minded people. We have great support from the car manufacturing industry and from the insurance industry. We have prevailed in all of these regulatory battles this year. We have prevailed in 25 state regulatory battles last year as well. We’re trying to be very vigilant when it comes to protecting the ability for consumers to share their cars and we’re going to continue to fight these battles.
Artificial intelligence startup MetaMind launched in late 2014 with $8 million in funding from Salesforce CEO Mark Benioff and Khosla Ventures. Now, Salesforce has has acquired it.
Salesforce will integrate MetaMind’s technology into its services.
“With MetaMind and Salesforce coming together, we’ll be able to offer customers real AI solutions with breakthrough capabilities that further automate and personalize customer support, marketing automation, and many other business processes,” says MetaMind co-founder and CEO Richard Socher. “We’ll extend Salesforce’s data science capabilities by embedding deep learning within the Salesforce platform.”
“Over the past year and a half, we’ve been on a mission to empower business users with state of the art deep learning technology to simplify, improve and automate decision making,” he says. “And now, we’ll be able to continue our journey at Salesforce on a much larger scale, with the resources and ecosystem of one of the world’s most innovative and influential enterprise software companies.”
While under Salesforce, MetaMind intends to continue its AI research. According to Socher, they’ll be publishing “groundbreaking discoveries” that advance the technology. They’re also hiring.
MetaMind’s products will be discontinued on May 4 for unpaid web users with June 4 being the end date for recurring monthly users. The company says all user data will be deleted “promptly” after closing.
Google announced three new capabilities to make it easier for Google Apps administrators to set up mobile management and define policies.
You can click Manage Now on the Admin console to set up mobile management with a predefined set of security policies.
“Simple to use enterprise applications can sometimes seem like a misnomer,” says program manager Sumit Chatterjee. “While enterprise software has remained complex, consumer software has gravitated towards simplicity. For Google Apps administrators, we believe in providing an EMM solution that’s as simple to operate as changing your personal Gmail settings, all the while delivering enterprise-grade security.”
Android for Work can be set up in a single click.
“No longer must admins complete fifteen steps spread across different pages in the admin console, cutting and pasting security tokens, to set up Android for Work,” says Chatterjee. “With a single click, admins can begin managing and whitelisting mobile apps (MAM) for their Android for Work devices in their domain.”
They’ve also redesigned the device management experience by categorizing all device policy settings to make them easier to find and use.
Additionally, the new version of the Google Amin app provides mobile device management capabilities including access to a list of all managed devices from which remote action can be taken for things like account wipes and blocking users.
In 2014, Salesforce launched Community Cloud, propelling itself into the fast-growing enterprise collaboration market. Last year, it launched Wave Analytics.
Now, the company is introducing Wave for Community Cloud, which gives businesses analytics tools that can be applied across their partner ecosystems.
“We’ve heard it before: Selling is a team sport,” says Salesforce’s Jamie Domenici. “Companies across the manufacturing, high-tech, consumer packaged goods, financial services industries and more rely on an extensive network of resellers, distributors, brokers, franchises and agents to drive growth. In fact, thousands of Salesforce customers are already using the Salesforce Community Cloud to better manage relationships and foster collaborative selling, planning and knowledge sharing amongst their channel partner ecosystem. And they’re seeing results — Community Cloud customers report an 86 percent increase in cross-sell and upsell opportunities. Now with Wave, customers can further extend the power of Community Cloud by arming partners with the same sales insights that a company’s own reps leverage to accelerate growth.”
“Wave for Community Cloud enables customers to embed Wave Analytics dashboards into any Partner Community, providing channel partners with the insights they need to optimize sales,” Domenici adds. “Previously, partner managers couldn’t see all of their data in one place and would spend time reconciling spreadsheets or searching disparate systems looking for insights on what worked in the past. And worse, partner sales reps would often be left guessing which deals to focus on or wasting time following up on the wrong opportunities. But when armed with personalized, data-driven sales insights, channel partners are able to unlock new sales opportunities and close deals faster, as if they are a true extension of a company’s sales team.”
You can check out a demo here:
According to the company, the offering will help channel partners better understand their own business by way of interactive performance summaries and historical trends. Dashboards can utilize data from any source, and security permissions can be personalized for visibility on a partner-by-partner basis.
Fellow team members can now talk to each other using their voices in Slack on the desktop.
TechCrunch reported on Tuesday that Slack would roll this feature out soon after attending a conference in San Francisco. Josh Constine wrote:
Slack VP of Product April Underwood tells me that voice chat on desktop will come first, and then the company will focus on making it work on all its devices and apps. Video will have to wait until after that. Underwood noted that you can already make voice calls via Skype’s Slack integration. But with its own feature, she says the use case will be “If I’m DMing someone in Slack and we want to switch to have a quick voice conversation, it addresses that problem.”
Now, while Slack doesn’t appear to have made an official announcement via its own media channels, the publication is reporting that Slack is already rolling voice calls out to desktop users.
It’s possible that Slack is waiting until the feature is fully rolled out to make the proper announcement. Constine says it’s only available to less than half of users so far.
Either way, it appears that you’ll soon be able to exchange vocal words with your colleagues very soon as Slack aims to keep you from having to use Skype, Google Hangouts, and the like.
Back in December, Google announced the availability of Data Loss Prevention in Gmail for Google Apps Unlimited customers.
This week at the RSA Conference in San Francisco, Google VP of Security & Privacy Engineering Gerhard Eschelbeck spoke, and announced new features for the DLP solution in Gmail.
The first feature is optical character recognition (OCR) for better scanning of attachments.
“Sensitive information can reside not just in text documents, but in scanned copies and images as well,” Google explains. “With the new OCR enhancement, DLP policies can now analyze common image types, and extract text for policy evaluation. Admins have the option to enable OCR in the Admin console at the organizational-unit (OU) level for both the Content compliance and Objectionable content rules.”
Secondly, Google has added additional predefined content detectors.
“Our Work customers span the globe, and we are committed to providing customers in all countries with plug-and-play DLP policies,” it says. “Towards this goal, we are pleased to announce the introduction of new detectors which cover personally identifiable information (PII) in several additional countries, and provide better coverage for HIPAA data as well.”
The company also introduced two new detection parameters to give its largest Work customers better control over DLP policies, minimize false positives, and “take action commensurate with the level of perceived risk.” There is a count parameter and a confidence parameter. The former lets customers set up different DLP policies based on whether a message contains individual or bulk PII. The latter lets customers tighten or loosen detection criteria for the most commonly used detectors.
Google has a data loss prevention whitepaper available here. You can also read this post, which looks at some of the company’s efforts throughout the past year. More comments from Eschelbeck here.
Microsoft announced a new service called Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection, which it calls the next step in its efforts to protect enterprise customers.
The service helps enterprises detect, investigate, and respond to advanced attacks on their networks, building on existing security features in Windows 10. There’s a new post-breach layer of protection.
“With a combination of client technology built into Windows 10 and a robust cloud service, it will help detect threats that have made it past other defenses, provide enterprises with information to investigate the breach across endpoints, and offer response recommendations,” says Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group.
“Just like we developed Windows 10 with feedback from millions of Windows Insiders, we worked with our most advanced enterprise customers to address their biggest security challenges, including attack investigations and day-to-day operations, to test our solution in their environments,” Myerson says. “Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection is already live with early adopter customers that span across geographies and industries, and the entire Microsoft network, making it one of the largest running advanced threat protection services.”
Myerson discusses how the offering detects advanced attacks, its response recommendations, and how it complements Microsoft’s other threat detection solutions here.
Microsoft of course insists that all Windows users upgrade to Windows 10 to have their most advanced security features.
Amazon announced that SharePoint Enterprise is now available to purchase and deploy in AWS Marketplace.
Amazon’s Jeff Barr says, “Designed to suit the needs of many different types and sizes of organizations up to and including multinational enterprises, SharePoint Enterprise supports custom applications, mobile applications, social media integration, business intelligence, and advanced content management (none of which is available in the entry-level SharePoint Foundation product).”
“This new offering helps customers to migrate their SharePoint and Windows Server workload and is made possible by the folks at Data Resolution,” he adds. “As a long-time SharePoint provider and Microsoft Hosting Provider, they have the background and experience needed to design and support a scalable implementation of SharePoint Enterprise in the AWS Cloud. They are already migrating one of their on-premises SharePoint customers to AWS, and are planning to work with us to produce a customer success story later this year. Data Resolution will also be offering consulting and migration services in order to make your transition to the cloud as smooth as possible.”

Last fall, Salesforce announced Salesforce App Cloud, which it called the “next evolution” of the Salesforce1 Platform. It brought together Force.com, Heroku Enterprise, and the previously announced Lightning user interface, in addition to a learning resource called Trailhead, which includes tutorials and guides.
App Cloud falls under the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) category aimed at enterprise businesses focusing on building apps, whether they are for company use or for customers. It’s essentially a consolidation of several of Salesforce’s products that unifies the experience and makes things less confusing for enterprises and developers.
The company just announced the updated App Cloud with the general availability of Heroku Enterprise. From the Salesforce blog:
Since launching App Cloud in 2015, we’ve noticed many of our customers growing their business by creating a superior customer experience through digital technology. Apartment List has saved renters time and money through an elegant, multi-device app experience. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines engaged fliers through social and mobile tools they already use. So in September 2015, we announced Heroku Enterprise as the next step in helping organizations create the new Internet consumer experience.
Since then, the Age of the Customer has exploded–with businesses of all sizes racing to build and deliver the elegant, unified and digital customer experience once only seen from the Ubers of the world. Our mission with App Cloud is to give everyone, from citizen developers to CIOs, the tools to deliver modern and innovative customer experiences. Heroku Enterprise is a key part of how we enable that, joining App Cloud’s already best-in-class stable of services that range from the democratizing power of point-and-click programming tools to extra levels of trust and control around business-critical applications.
You can learn more about Heroku Enterprise features here.
Salesforce will host a webinar about App Cloud and Heroku Enterprise on February 18.
Computer tech company Lenovo is dancing its way into the smartphone market — with Google. Lenovo took the lid off plans for its first consumer mobile device at CES 2016 in Las Vegas this week.
“To break new ground in today’s hypercompetitive smartphone and tablet industries, we must take innovation risks — it’s the only way to truly change the way people use mobile technology,” said Chen Xudong, senior vice president and president of the Mobile Business Group at Lenovo, in a statement

With today’s announcement, SpaceIL is the first of the 16 Lunar X Prize teams to book a ride off the planet. If the mission succeeds, it will be the first Israeli mission — as well as the first private spaceflight mission — to soft-land a vehicle on the lunar surface. Eran Privman, CEO of SpaceIL, claimed the group isn’t focused on the competition, but they are confident they can win. “I promise you once we land on the Moon, we’ll look around and see we are the first,” he said.
Only three nations have ever landed a spacecraft intact on the Moon: the United States, Russia, and China. Many countries have slammed lunar orbiters or probes into the Moon to study its environment, but gently landing a spacecraft is trickier. The Moon is big enough to have a gravitational pull, but it doesn’t have an atmosphere to slow incoming objects. Spacecraft in lunar orbit must fire retro-rockets, very precisely, in the opposite direction of the Moon. That way they can slowly descend without slamming into the rock. It’s a delicate procedure that usually requires a lot of time and money, which is why only government agencies have been able to do it up until now.
A trait carried over from their debut, luckily for us listeners
Egyptian chest, and was moreover intensified by his delirium, that his mates were forced to lace him fast, even there, as he sailed, raving in his hammock. In a strait-jacket, he swung to the mad rockings of the gales. And, when running into more sufferable latitudes, the ship, with mild stun’sails spread, floated across the tranquil tropics, and, to all appearances.
That it was only then, on the homeward voyage, after the encounter, that the final monomania seized him, seems all but certain from the fact that, at intervals during the passage, he was a raving lunatic; and, though unlimbed of a leg, yet such vital strength yet lurked in his Egyptian chest, and was moreover intensified by his delirium, that his mates were forced to lace him fast, even there, as he sailed, raving in his hammock. In a strait-jacket, he swung to the mad rockings of the gales. And, when running into more sufferable latitudes, the ship, with mild stun’sails spread, floated across the tranquil tropics, and, to all appearances, the old man’s delirium seemed left behind him with the Cape Horn swells.
Human madness is oftentimes a cunning and most feline thing. When you think it fled, it may have but become transfigured into some still subtler form. Ahab’s full lunacy subsided not, but deepeningly contracted; like the unabated Hudson, when that noble Northman flows narrowly, but unfathomably through the Highland gorge.
Lauren Mayberry’s lyrics touches on elements of heartbreak
God the direful madness was now gone; even then, Ahab, in his hidden self, raved on.
But, as in his narrow-flowing monomania, not one jot of Ahab’s broad madness had been left behind; so in that broad madness, not one jot of his great natural intellect had perished. That before living agent, now became the living instrument. If such a furious trope may stand, his special lunacy stormed his general sanity, and carried it, and turned all its concentred cannon upon its own mad mark. I knew the Indians would soon discover that they were on the wrong trail and that the search for me would be renewed in the right direction as soon as they located my tracks. I had gone but a short distance further when what seemed to be an excellent trail opened up around the face of a high cliff. The trail was level and quite broad and led upward and in the general direction I wished to go. The cliff arose for several hundred feet on my right, and on my left was an equal and nearly perpendicular drop to the bottom of a rocky ravine.
Gov. Bill Haslam announced Tuesday that Google will invest $600 million to bring the company’s eighth U.S. data center to Clarksville and create 70 new jobs.
“We are grateful for Google’s significant investment in Tennessee and the new jobs that will be created in Montgomery County,” said the Republican governor. “This is one of the world’s most well-known brands, so it says a lot for our state that it will soon be home to Google’s eighth U.S. data center.”

When Google announced early this year that it would halt sales Relevant Products/Services of Google Glass, many observers were quick to label the computing-enabled eyewear experiment a failure.
However, recently discovered Google documents filed with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) indicate the company plans a reboot of Glass.
The work depicts Jobs in his trademark black turtleneck jumper carrying an early model of his Apple computer and with a black bin bag slung over his shoulder.
Teams using Slack can now take advantage of a new Skype integration to engage in voice and video calls. Skype announced that this is now available in preview.
To set it up, just go to the Skype integration for Slack product page, and click “Add to Slack”.
“Once the Skype integration has been configured, anyone on the Slack team can start a Skype call from a computer,” Skype explains. “Just type ‘/skype’ into the chat and when the call is set up, a join link will appear. Whether your team members use Slack on the web, Windows, Mac, iOS or Android, you’ll receive a Slack notification that a Skype call has started, so no one will ever miss a call again. Whenever you want to start a new call, just type ‘/skype’ into the chat again which will set up a new call for others to join.”
“To join a Skype call, all you need on the desktop is a web browser, or you can get the Skype mobile apps to join from your smartphone,” Skype says. “Anyone can join as a guest from a computer, or sign in with a Microsoft account or Skype Name. Please visit the Skype integration for Slack product page for more information and detailed system requirement.”
As the offering is only in preview mode, I expect there is potential for bugs, so keep that in mind.
