  • Avril Lavigne Engaged To Nickelback Frontman Chad Kroeger

Avril Lavigne engaged is something I thought I would never hear again. The “punk” rock star was already married once to Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley, but split up in 2010. I thought that she would be done with the whole marriage thing for good. It turns out that she wants to give it one more shot with the frontman of the most reviled band on the planet.

That’s right, folks, Avril Lavigne is now engaged to Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger. I’m sure the two found some kind of chemistry to make this work, but I’m just not seeing it. I can at least stomach, and maybe even enjoy, some of Lavigne’s more popular hits. I guess quality of music doesn’t come into play when two musicians get married.

There is plenty of commentary to be had on the announcement, but why waste my breath? The fine folks on Twitter have sharper tongues than I.

  • Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Are Officially Engaged

Superstar couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are now officially set to marry, after many months of rumors and speculation.

Pitt’s manager, Cynthia Pitt-Dante, confirmed that he has given her a ring–which he had custom-made and helped design–although no date is set yet.

“Yes, it’s confirmed. It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy,” she said.

The actors, who met on the set of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” in 2005, have six children together (a mixture of both adopted and biological kids) and have become almost as well known for their philanthropy and family life as they have for their films, have said that an official union means a lot to their kids.

“The kids ask about marriage,” Pitt said last year. “It’s meaning more and more to them. So it’s something we’ve got to look at.”

The couple has been together so long that many people thought they were already married.

  • Internet Helps Man Pop The Question

Len Kendall (@lenkendall), a top 50 community contributor to (@BuzzFeed) used the site and social media to get a “yes” from his now soon-to-be bride, Katie Holland (@Hollandersauce). It all started with a tease from the owner of BuzzFeed who posted, “Something very, very risky is going to happen on BuzzFeed this morning.”

Soon after, Len Kendall tweeted, “Katie, I love you so much. Will you marry me?” On a post he published entitled, “Help Me Convince Katie To say ‘Yes’.” The post also included a cut out image of Kendall that was designed to be inserted into various images. The BuzzFeed editor added a note to explain to readers, “Len is proposing to his longtime girlfriend Katie right here and now. Help him by leaving an image in the comments persuading her to say yes and making Len the happiest man in the whole internet. We’ll update this post as soon as she responds. OMG!!!!”

The readers took it from there and quickly filled the comments of Kendall’s post with their edited images of his cutout photo and tweeted their comments using #SayYesKatie hashtag. After a long day with no response from the object of Kendall’s affection, everyone got the good word from Katie. With the help of some 80 plus participants, Len and Katie made their engagement official and brightened a number of people’s days in addition to their own. After all is said and done, the Internet can still be fun and even useful in bringing people together.
