  • Lindsey Vonn, Tiger Woods’ Girl, Crashes Sunday Dashing Her Hopes to Tie World Cup Record

Lindsey Vonn crashed during Sunday’s super-G race in France, dashing her hopes to tie a World Cup record.

Tiger Woods‘ girlfriend was vying to tie the 62nd World Cup race, but she crashed after entering a gate too wide.

In the end, Austrian Elizabeth Goergl beat fellow Austrian, Olympic champion Anna Fenniger, by 0.05 seconds to win the race.

The four-time World Cup champion thankfully did not hurt her already weakened knee, but she suffered a sore elbow after it took the brunt of the fall. She has undergone two operations for her knee recently and it has been a slow recovery.

“I was risking everything and attacking the course. That sometimes happens in super-G; you don’t have any training runs and you have just one inspection,” Vonn said. “I hit my elbow, somehow funny. I have some ice on it. It’s just a little bit swollen, but no big deal.”

After her tumble, which drew gasps from the crowd, Vonn lay on her back for a several moments, then flexed her right leg, before getting up, which worried commentators.

“I was on the limit and hit some softer snow and lost a little bit of elevation, and then I wasn’t able to make the gate,” the 30-year-old Vonn said. “The most important thing is my knees are good.”

Vonn won Saturday’s downhill for her 61st World Cup win, 0.01 seconds ahead Georgl’s time, and was happy to snap a winning photo with …. well, a cow she won for coming in first in the downhill.

She was hoping to come out strong on Sunday, but it just wasn’t her best day.

“I didn’t feel quite as sharp as I normally do,” Vonn said. “I was a little bit tired; yesterday was a very long day.”

Vonn will have her next chance to tie the record Jan. 10-11, at the Austrian resort of Bad Kleinkirchheim, which would be fitting considering it’s her homeland.

Overall leader Tina Maze of Slovenia finished third, 0.13 behind Georgl.

“The course was really tricky, and I kind of like that,” Goergl said.

Swiss star Lara Gut came in fourth, followed by Nadia Banchini of Italy. American Julia Mancuso came in sixth.
