  • Dying Light System Requirements, Season Pass Revealed

Dying Light will continue the time honored zombie game tradition in 2015. Unlike other zombie games, however, Dying Light will mix some first-person parkour platforming into the mix. The game will hit PS4, Xbox One and PC, but how powerful of a PC will you need to play it.

Techland revealed the PC system requirements for Dying Light this past week. Fortunately, the requirements aren’t that taxing especially when compared to other cross platform games released this year. Without further ado, here’s the system requirements:

    Minimum requirements:
    OS: Windows® 7 64-bit / Windows® 8 64-bit / Windows® 8.1 64-bit
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-2500 @3.3 GHz / AMD FX-8320 @3.5 GHz
    Memory: 4 GB RAM DDR3
Hard Drive: 40 GB available space
    Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560 / AMD Radeon™ HD 6870 (1GB VRAM)
    Direct X®: Version 11
    Sound: DirectX® compatible

    Recommended requirements:
    OS: Windows® 7 64-bit / Windows® 8 64-bit / Windows® 8.1 64-bit
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4670K @3.4 GHz / AMD FX-8350 @4.0 GHz
    Memory: 8 GB RAM DDR3
Hard Drive: 40 GB available space
    Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780 / AMD Radeon™ R9 290 (2GB VRAM)
    Direct X: Version 11
    Sound: DirectX® compatible

If you meet the recommended requirements, you’re going to have a pretty good looking game. If you only meet the minimum requirements, you’re still going to have a great time. I played games with a GTX 560 for a few years, and games looked great even on medium settings. If you must have the ultimate in visual fidelity, you might want to check out the PS4 or Xbox One versions if the PC requirements are too steep for you.

As for the Season Pass, Dying Light will charge the now standard $20 for a number of DLC packs that are to be offered throughout the life of the game. The first DLC pack – Cuisine and Cargo – will challenge players to sneak through buildings that were sealed off at the start of the zombie apocalypse. The second DLC pack – the Ultimate Survivor Bundle – will give players three new outfits and four weapon blueprints. The final DLC pack – the Bozak Horde – will introduce an area where players can take down hordes of zombies by themselves or with a friend.

To top it all off, Techland shared a new trailer for Dying Light at Friday night’s Game Awards:

  • Dying Light Details Its Setting In New Trailer

Since its reveal last year, we’ve become very well acquainted with Dying Light. The new game from Dead Island developers Techland looks to combine the zombie hordes of Dead Island with the free-running found in Mirror’s Edge. The developers want you to know it’s more than that though.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Dying Light producer Tymon Smektala says that Dying Light is more than just killing zombies. It’s a game that wants to explore how humanity copes after an epidemic brings an entire city to its knees. He stresses that zombies are just humans who have succumbed to an infection. They’re not monsters and the game will hammer this point home as players will most likely be faced with various moral dilemmas.

It’s in that sense that the latest trailer for Dying Light is very similar to the first trailer for Dead Island. In that trailer, we get to see the last moments of a family trying to save their daughter after she’s bitten by a zombie. It was absolutely heartbreaking and something the actual game never lived up to. Let’s hope Dying Light is up to the task this time around.

Dying Light will launch later this year for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

  • Here’s 9 Minutes Of Dying Light Gameplay Footage

One of the most anticipated games of next year is Dying Light – a free-running zombie game from the guys that brought us Dead Island. One of its most interesting mechanics is a day/night cycle that affects the gameplay in a significant way. While most of the gameplay shown thus far has taken place during the day, we’re now starting to see more of its night gameplay.

As previously noted, the zombies transform at night. They cease being the simple slow-moving zombies that you’ve come to expect from zombie games and become effective fast-moving hunters. It’s one of the many reasons why the game encourages players to take care of their business during the day to avoid being caught out at night.

Interestingly enough, the latest gameplay trailer introduces a special infected that can spit what appears to be bile at the player. This type of zombie has been seen in both Dead Island and Left 4 Dead, but it’s nice to know that there will be some variety among the daytime zombies as well.

Dying Light is scheduled to launch at some point in 2014 for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

  • Dying Light Gets New Gameplay Trailer At VGX

On Saturday night, Spike TV hosted its annual video game awards show with a new title – the VGX. It was a smaller, scaled down event that focused more on the games than the celebrities. Whether or not this new format was successful is up to gamers, but we can at least enjoy the new gameplay reveals that came from the show.

Dying Light, one of the most anticipated games of 2014, received a new live gameplay demo at the event. In past gameplay videos, it’s been reiterated that Dying Light is a parkour game with zombies. While that remains the case in this latest video, we’re treated to a new few new features.

For starters, the game takes place in an open world. While you’re encouraged to take on missions, players can do whatever they want. Past trailers have shown players taking on missions from saving survivors to picking up supply drops, but this latest gameplay demo was all about the freedom offered to players.

It was previously stated that Dying Light would be out in early 2014, but the date is now set to just sometime in 2014. The game will be out on PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

  • ‘Dying Light’ Visuals Teased in New Tech Demo

Capcom has capitalized on the next-generation console launch with Dead Rising 3, a launch title for the Xbox One. On Friday gamers who buy an Xbox One will be able to get their zombie fix on day one.

Reviews for Dead Rising 3, however, have not been perfect. It’s evidently clear that the game was originally being developed for current-gen consoles. For a truly next-gen zombie apocalypse experience, gamers might have to wait until developer Techland releases Dying Light next year. Techland is the developer behind the Dead Island series of zombie games.

Dying Light combines traditional zombie mayhem with the first-person free running of Mirror’s edge. Earlier previews of the game show that players are expected to mostly run from, rather than fight, the zombie horde.

Another big mechanic in Dying Light is that the game’s zombie transform at night, turning into even more powerful and dangerous creatures. Stealth and quickness will take on an even bigger role during the game’s night cycle.

With day and night being such an important part of the game, getting the lighting right will be one of the most important aspects when developing the game. Luckily for the developers, next-gen consoles have much better hardware with which to render impressive lighting. Today Techland released a short teaser video showing off the lighting in Dying Light. Judging by the video, it appears that Techland has so far focused on optimizing lighting over textures:

  • Dying Light Really Is Mirror’s Edge With Zombies

When Dying Light was first announced, it was billed as Mirror’s Edge with zombies. The comparison seemed a little simplistic and perhaps a disservice, but we couldn’t know for sure until we actually got to see some gameplay.

The wait for gameplay is over as IGN obtained 12 minutes of nothing but gameplay from Dying Light. I was hesitant to compare the title to Mirror’s Edge, but the first gameplay video proves it to be an apt comparison. There are some differences, however, with Dying Light looking a little slower than EA’s free runner.

Of course, Dying Light is also a zombie game. It’s made by the team at Techland that made Dead Island so you can expect to see plenty of weapon customization. The other interesting mechanic sees the zombies transforming into more powerful monsters at night where the player will have to either stealthily make their way through the environment or run to the nearest safe house.

Dying Light will be out in early 2014 for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

  • Dying Light Is Mirror’s Edge With Zombies

Mirror’s Edge was a pretty cool game. Could it be improved? Sure. Is adding zombies to the formula a good idea? We’ll find out next year.

Dead Island developer Techland are hard at work on their new zombie game called Dying Light. In short, it’s Mirror’s Edge with Zombies. Here’s the official synopsis if you’re into that:

The city, devastated by a deadly outbreak, is a battleground. Witness the survivors’ desperate race to a cache of supplies. Free running from here to there is only a part of the challenge. The real test is trying to stay alive through the night, when the infected become more active and even more deadly. This is your world now, every day and every night, so run! Good night, good luck!

Dying Light will be released in 2014 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
