  • Dwayne Johnson Rocks ‘Hercules’ And Earthquake Flick

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has successfully tackled the competition through WWE as well as multiple film roles. He has been everything from the Tooth Fairy to The Scorpion King to a Fast & Furious CIA road warrior. What has he not done?

He hasn’t taken on Mother Earth just yet; however, this is all about to change. Dwayne has recently been in the final stages of signing on to star in New Line Cinema’s earthquake disaster flick, San Andreas. The film will be directed by Brad Peyton who previously worked with Dwayne on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

Fans who can’t seem to get enough of the buff star have been given sneak peaks into his upcoming summer 2014 movie, Hercules: The Thracian Wars, (not to be confused with Hercules: The Legend Begins starring Kellan Lutz that is also due for a 2014 release) through Facebook and Twitter posts that Dwayne Johnson has shared.

Even though Dwayne Johnson looks every inch the archetype of the tough demigod hero, Hercules, he has garnered a strong fan base for showing his funnier and softer side. In interviews and pictures the popular movie star has shown that in spite of his masculine physique, he does not take himself too seriously.

Noting Dwayne Johnson’s charisma explains why his films have been so successful and grossed such high amounts. According to Box Office Mojo, the 2013 combined lifetime movie gross for Dwayne Johnson films (Fast & Furious 6, Pain and Gain, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and Snitch) totaled $454,008,663. What other WWE champ could be so universally loved for sporting the milk mustache while wearing rocket pajamas?

  • Kellan Lutz Promotes “Hercules” at NY Comic Con

Kellan Lutz’ latest flick, Hercules: The Legend Begins, has just released the first full-length trailer (below). At the helm of the pectoral pictorial is Renny Harlin (of action-dramas Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger) who also co-wrote the script.

The film’s marketers took advantage of this weekend’s New York Comic Con to debut the trailer. Lutz and supporting cast Gaia Weiss, Liam McIntyre and Scott Adkins appeared on the convention’s main stage to promote the film.

Lutz, perhaps best known for his Twilight Saga time as Emmett Cullen, aspires to an Academy Award but this seems unlikely to get him there just yet. Based on early reviews, fans will likely be those who gravitate toward CGI-heavy, dialogue-light, 3D, costume-action-drama films… and a shirtless Lutz.

That is, when it’s finally released in March 2014. Nu Image and Millennium Films are producing and the timing, if all goes as planned, precedes the higher-profile, Paramount and MGM-produced Hercules: The Thracian Wars, in which Dwayne Johnson portrays the demi-god.

In this iteration of the legend, Hercules is exiled from his homeland when he falls in love with his brother’s betrothed, Hebe, Princess of Crete, played by Weiss. Hercules vows to return for Hebe, sets out to fulfill his destiny as offspring of Zeus and battle scenes ensue.

Harlin says of this version, “We wanted to really go to the origins of this character and really start with a young man who doesn’t even know that he is Hercules.”

Weiss is a newcomer to the industry, her two previous productions premiering in 2013. Followers of the Spartacus TV series will recognize McIntyre in the role of Sotiris, Hercules’ trusted battlefield comrade. Adkins has several credits, albeit in smaller roles, with such films as Zero Dark Thirty and The Bourne Ultimatum.

Lutz is busy with other productions as well. He’s joining the Expendables franchise at number three and will voice a character for the animated Guardians of Luna, both due out in 2014.

  • GI Joe Retaliation Delayed 9 Months

The Rock is everywhere these days. He made his triumphant return to the WWE at Wrestlemania, he has become an integral part of the Fast and the Furious franchise, and he was cast as Roadblock for this summers GI Joe sequel. Wait a minute, not so fast. It turns out that Paramount has delayed the release from June 29th of this year to March 29, 2013.

“We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally,” one of the studio execs told deadline.com. “Jim Cameron did all of Titanic‘s 3D in post — and look how well that movie turned out.”

Seth McFarland sees an opportunity here and has pushed up the release of his “teddy bear come to life” story, “Ted”, to replace GI Joe’s release date on June 29th.

Commitment to make GI JOE a massive world event just got bigger. New release 3/29/13. Rock + Ass kickins + 3D = #AwwwwShit
