  • ‘Saved by the Bell’ Star Dustin Diamond Receives Four Month Jail Sentence for Stabbing

Saved by the Bell star Dustin Diamond was sentenced on Thursday to four months is jail for stabbing a man during a bar brawl back on January 1st. A judge ordered him to report to jail on Sunday. In addition to his jail sentence he received 15 months of probation.

The bar fight reportedly started when a woman bumped into the Saved by the Bell star’s girlfriend. From that point an all-out brawl ensued, with a knife being pulled, and Diamond and injuring Casey Smet.

“Before the altercation, I was not bleeding or stabbed. After the altercation, I was,” Smet said in court.

“I sincerely apologize to everyone involved,” Dustin Diamond said at the hearing Thursday. “This was the single most terrifying experience of my life. This is all I’ve been able to think about for the last six months.”

Back in May, the once-popular actor known as Screech was convicted of two misdemeanors in connection with the stabbing. He was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon–the knife with which he stabbed Casey Smet–and for disorderly conduct. He was cleared of a felony charge of recklessly endangering public safety.

Several members of Saved by the Bell got together on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon back in early February. Dustin Diamond was not among them.

It’s interesting to see how some members of the Saved by the Bell Cast–like Mario Lopez and Mark-Paul Gosselaar have gone on to have successful entertainment careers–while Dustin Diamond’s days in the industry are long since over.

It’s unlikely, in light of his jail sentence, that talent agents will want to sign him any time soon.

  • Dustin Diamond Not Invited to Jimmy Fallon ‘Saved by the Bell’ Reunion?

Dustin Diamond–best known for his role as Screech on Saved by the Bell–says he never received an invitation to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where members of the Saved by the Bell cast met for a reunion of sorts earlier in February.

In a recent interview, Diamond said he heard about the hilarious Tonight Show skit, that featured Jimmy Fallon, Mario Lopez, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Thiessen, and Elizabeth Berkley, when his girlfriend’s friend informed her of the upcoming reunion.

“It would have been fun, but I don’t see it as a personal insult,” Dustin Diamond said.

Diamond wound up in financial trouble after his parents spent much his earnings from his days on Saved by the Bell and other acting endeavors.

“It’s a shame. My parents wasted so much of my hard work. A lot of my youth,” he explained.

He was reportedly left with only a few-hundred-thousand dollars from 10 years of work when he turned 18. About nine years ago he held a t-shirt sale to prevent his home from going into foreclosure. He raised enough to save the home, but many people complained, saying they never received the t-shirts they paid for. Diamond blames that on ‘wrong addresses.’

Dustin Diamond has made news in recent years for releasing an online sex tape as well. These days he calls that decision, “an opportunistic moment when I was young and dumb.”

In January he was involved in a bar fight and has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

“Here’s the way I look at it. I walk a very honest and humble path, and I know what kind of person I am. I’m very comfortable where I fit in life,” Diamond said. “I’m playing comedy clubs. I’m not rich, but I make a living. I’ve tripped and fallen many times in my life. If you don’t, how do you learn?”

Do you suppose–given his questionable behavior in recent years–that Dustin Diamond was intentionally left out of the Saved by the Bell reunion on The Tonight Show?

Was Jimmy Fallon–or one of the Saved by the Bell cast members–responsible for Screech not appearing in the skit?

  • ‘Saved by the Bell’ Cast Visits With Jimmy Fallon on ‘Tonight Show’

Saved by the Bell was among the most popular TV shows of the very late 1980s and the early 1990s. The show’s cast–minus Dustin Diamond, who played the role of Screech–recreated a hilarious sketch during a reunion of sorts on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday.

Characters Kelly Kapowski (played by Tiffani Thiessen), A.C. Slater (played by Mario Lopez) and Jessie Spano (played by Elizabeth Berkley) set the scene with talk of an upcoming Valentine’s Day dance. The gang is bummed, however, when their new friend Jimmy (played, of course, by Jimmy Fallon) won’t be attending the dance, because he is planning to head to New York City to try out for a role on Saturday Night Live. Jimmy adds that he might even work toward hosting his own talk show and that he wants to go on a date with Nicole Kidman. Kidman recently floored Jimmy Fallon (in real life–not the Saved by the Bell sketch) when she told him a get-together the two had at his apartment many years earlier was actually a date. He apparently didn’t dress appropriately and played video games part of the time she was visiting, thinking she was just a pal stopping by.

Jimmy Fallon fit in with the cast of Saved by the Bell perfectly, and it’s actually quite amazing how many of the cast members haven’t aged much since the show’s last episode in 1993. Mario Lopez still most resembles his younger self, but Tiffani Thiessen, A.C. Slater, and Elizabeth Berkley are looking rather ageless as well.

If you missed The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night, you missed a great show. The Saved by the Bell cast reunion was no doubt a huge treat for those who followed the show more than two decades ago.

  • Dustin Diamond, Who Played ‘Screech’ in ‘Saved By the Bell,’ Claims Self-Defense in Stabbing Incident

Dustin Diamond, who played Samuel “Screech” Powers in the 1990s sitcom Saved by the Bell, admitted to police that he stabbed a man at a bar Thursday in Port Washington, Wisconsin, north of Milwaukee, although he claims he was just protecting his fiancé from harm.

Diamond, 37, was released from jail Monday afternoon after posting a $10,000 bond for one charge of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and $1,000 for each of his other two charges, disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon.

Diamond, who is claiming self-defense, told police officers he was defending his 27-year-old fiancée Amanda Schutz.

The charges stem from an altercation that Diamond and his fiancee got into with two men and a woman at the Grand Avenue Saloon on Thursday night.

During a status hearing on Monday, Diamond’s lawyer Thomas Alberti, said his client has nothing but praise for the Port Washington Police and believes he will be exonerated after due process.

“Dustin doesn’t feel like he is being wronged,” Thomas told People. “He gets that when something like this happens, the police get involved and the court figures it out. He says the Port Washington police have been nothing but exemplary. He gets it. He knows there is a process in this country and in the end he will be exonerated.”

Thomas asked the judge to reduce Diamond’s bail because he didn’t have criminal history and acted in self-defense.

“The State is in possession of photographs and/or Police Officer statements that may reasonably conclude that Amanda Schutz had been punched in the face and forcibly held by more than one adult male,” Thomas said in his motion.

“[Diamond] produced a pocketknife in a desperate attempt to defend his [fiancee] from further harm. [Diamond] hoped to deter the aggressors with the only option that he had: a pocketknife. It was not until one of the aggressors attempted to tackle [Diamond] that any alleged injury occurred,” Thomas said.

Thomas said it’s not uncommon for Wisconsin people to carry pocketknives.

“It is just an everyday tool,” he said. “It is not at all uncommon. Dustin has zero criminal history. He is not a thug walking around trying to stick people up. Dustin and Amanda are neat people. They are upbeat. Dustin is a comedian and he likes making people laugh and pleasing people. He is a good-natured person.”

Diamond’s next court appearance is set for Jan. 5, 2015.
