  • Javonte Douglas: See a College Player’s Insane Dunk [VIDEO]

You sometimes hear hyperbole about a basketball player being so good that he can jump out of a gym. Now that doesn’t seem so far-fetched after watching a video of a junior college player’s amazing dunk that went viral. Javonte Douglas, a JuCo player for the College of Central Florida, pulled off a dunk that will make most NBA players a little green with envy.

This Twitter user says it best:

Check out Javonte Douglas’s crazy dunk (video above, GIF below) for one of the best sports clips you will see all week.

    (image)

This obviously wasn’t your run-of-the-mill dunk. After a teammate shot the ball, Douglas ran up to get the rebound. Instead, the 6-foot-8 forward from Charlotte, NC jumped over three players and slammed the ball in the basket. Make sure you take note of the location of Douglas’s chin and the hand that is on the basketball at the peak of his dunk. Granted, it appears that he gets a little help from another player that was going up for the ball and got under him, but still…watch out, Blake Griffin!

College of Central Florida has commented about the video on their Facebook page and says that it has received more hits than any other video in Patriots history. The video is expected to appear on ESPN sometime this week.

How did Javonte Douglas’s dunk rank compared to others you have seen? Respond below.

  • Brittney Griner Dunks In Women’s NCAA Tournament Game

Becoming only the second woman to do so, would-be lottery pick of the Baylor Bears, Brittney Griner, dunked in during the women’s NCAA Tournament. The unexpected slam–Griner is only the seventh player to dunk in a women’s college basketball game–came against the Bears’ rout of the Florida Gators, helping propel Baylor that much closer to their goals of NCAA National Championship glory.

Griner’s presence is one of the main reasons Baylor is such a heavy favorite. To date, the Bears are undefeated on the season, amassing a perfect 36-0 record. The dunk, perhaps due to it being such a rare occurrence, is the “Highlight of the Night” for ESPN:

    (image)
Naturally, the sports blog world jumped all over it, as well. The dunk in question:

For some reason, Griner’s dunk has also caught the attention of Internet “haters,” a collective of individuals who try to take the fun and enjoyment out of, well, everything. There’s no topic Internet haters won’t address, and you can usually identify them by the smell of disappointment emanating, courtesy of their lack of life accomplishments. Because of that, everything else sucks as much as their menial existence does.

The most popular comments at YouTube, as well as the various tweets made about Griner’s gender, indicate as much:

She’s 6’8, with an 86 inch wingspan, and wears an 18 inch shoe..

    She dunked?

    I don’t give a fuck.

    Ohbehave30

Hey, at least they found an account name that matches their behavior. It also sounds like a heaping helping of hate from someone who may not be able to dunk themselves and are therefore jealous of Griner’s genetic jackpot-winning ways.

The hate was evident on Twitter as well, as Griner’s gender was the topic of much discussion:

When are Kentucky and Baylor gonna stop playing and reveal that Brittney Griner and Anthony Davis are the same person?(image) 5 hours ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

At first, I thought the Heat signed Baylor’s Brittney Griner to their roster. Then I realized it was Chris Bosh. #realtalk #SamePlayer(image) 8 hours ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Congratulations to Britney Griner for being the first man to dunk in a NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament.(image) 12 hours ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

However, not everyone was out to make fun of Griner. Some defended her dunk by slamming those who made fun of her. Others simply recognized the skill and ability:

Dear Twitter: Thanks for reminding me that athletically gifted females like Britney Griner can still be marginalized by calling them men.(image) 7 hours ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

All these dudes hating on Britney Griner just mad cuz they can’t touch the net. #girlgotgame(image) 7 hours ago via Twitter for Android ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Britney Griner shoulda went straight to the WNBA… she really just drop step dunked in a game… wow(image) 7 hours ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

So what about you? Is Griner’s dunk something to memorialize the way SportsCenter is doing so–they apparently need something else to talk about besides Peyton Manning–or are the haters doing the right thing and reeling this topic in before it gets out of hand? Personally, I was impressed. I mean, the second woman to dunk in a tournament game? Ever? That alone deserves the attention Griner is getting.

  • Andy Richter in Skryim, Kristen Bell’s Sloth Breakdown, & Bacon Baby

A viral video is one that becomes popular through the process of Internet sharing, via social media, sharing sites, or good ‘ole email. Everyday we highlight some of the best that are currently viral and some that are trending that way.

Today’s videos feature a baby who will most likely go on to love bacon, a Vet clinic with a special employee, and a 100 year old woman who loves her Nintendo DS.

It took a lot not to do an arrow to the knee joke, but if something ever deserved one it’s this video. Hopefully, somewhere in the MOD community, someone is making these sound bytes available in game.

I believe the recipe for a perfect YouTube video is thus – A pinch of crazy, a dash of humor, and a teaspoon of adorable. This Kristen Bell video came out perfect!

Mama…bacon…No – Mama…bacon, bacon, bacon, bacon. Leave me alone, I just want to chew on my finger.

Every vet clinic should have this type of dog-employee on staff. They definitely have a clip to use in their next local commercial.

Skydiving has to be one of the greatest hobbies that has a good chance of killing you. As proven by this amazing documentary, which picks up around the 5:00 mark and doesn’t let up til the end.

She doesn’t feel a day past 80, even though she’s over a 100. She says her Nintendo DS keeps her mind working. Which makes her the coolest 100 year old ever.

If you’ve watched ESPN in the past 24 hours you’ve probably seen the dunk already, just in case you haven’t here’s the video. As an OKC Thunder fan, this was hard to post.
