  • Phil Robertson Booted From “Duck Dynasty”

Phil Robertson Booted From “Duck Dynasty”

Perhaps Phil Robertson has spent far too much time in the woods with the ducks and not enough time in polite society. After all, enough socialization in the 21st century would tell any American what the feedback for his comments would have been. For those who missed it, The Duck Dynasty star landed himself in hot water over his bigoted commentary.

It all started with the infamous GQ interview, where Robertson ended up discussing his religious and social beliefs. Perhaps for some reason GQ expected him to say something about white after Labor Day or socks with sandals? Regardless of what the interviewer was anticipating, it may not have been this:

“Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

This is the second part of a an explanation of his feelings about homosexuals and how they are the slippery slope to bestiality. Yikes. And that’s not last of it, unfortunately:

“All you have to do is look at any society where there is no Jesus. I’ll give you four: Nazis, no Jesus. Look at their record. Uh, Shintos? They started this thing in Pearl Harbor. Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero. That’s eighty years of ideologies that have popped up where no Jesus was allowed among those four groups. Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups.”

    Wow. ….So that’s it? ….Please?

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field…. They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!… Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Oh dear. It seems safe to assume that no one ever got around to telling Robertson that Germany is no longer under Nazi control and Japan is currently one of our staunchest allies. As for that whole Civil Rights Movement? Clearly African Americans wanted more out of life than “picking cotton”. Between commentary on other ethnic groups and gay men and women, the fallout was never going to be pretty.

When criticism first emerged, Phil Robertson had said in his own defense, “I myself am a product of the ‘60s” who indulged in sex and drugs until hitting bottom and accepting Jesus as his savior…I would never treat anyone with disrespect because they are different.”

The “I am a product of my time” defense is a popular one. The problem is that the groups who are discriminated against today didn’t just pop up out of the ground yesterday. Many of those individuals are the same age as Robertson and can recall a painful existence as the result of hate and ignorance.

The duck hunter’s justification is not enough for A&E. The network has stated that Robertson is off the show indefinitely. A&E experienced similar woes a few years ago when Dog the Bounty Hunter star Duane Chapman was recorded by his son in a racist rant against the young man’s choice of girlfriend. Production was halted and though the series returned eventually, it suffered low ratings. This led to its cancellation in 2012.

As for whether or not Duck Dynasty will experience the same fate, that remains to be seen.

  • Phil Robertson: Here’s The Backlash

Phil Robertson and A&E are on the receiving end of quite a bit of backlash today after an interview with the “Duck Dynasty” star was published in GQ. Robertson sounded off on his views on homosexuality, saying it was “not logical”.

“It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical…start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”

“Duck Dynasty” network A&E released a statement regarding Robertson’s remarks, saying he is now suspended from filming.

“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty”, the network group said in a statement. ”His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”

The Human Rights Campaign has asked for an apology from Robertson, saying, “These remarks go beyond being outlandishly inaccurate and offensive. They are dangerous and revisionist, appealing to those in our society who wish to repeat patterns of discrimination. We urge A+E to immediately denounce and repudiate Robertson’s comments. Furthermore, we call on you to see that Phil Robertson apologizes for his vitriolic comments. Surely a brand like A+E does not want to be associated with such racist and homophobic remarks.”

Meanwhile, social media outlets are blowing up today with both support and outrage, with some saying Robertson should fight the censorship.

  • Phil Robertson Under Fire for Anti-Gay Comments

Phil Robertson is used to sharing his honest opinion through A&E’s mega-hit reality television show, Duck Dynasty. The show continues to break records by maintaining an impressive amount of viewers. Robertson, the duck-hunter-turned-evangelist, recently spoke about homosexuality in an interview with GQ.

“It seems like, to me, a vagina, as a man, would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.” Robertson said before adding, “Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong. Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men. Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Robertson went on to speak about his concern for the human race, and his family’s underlying value system. “We’re Bible-thumpers who just happened to end up on television,” Robertson said in an effort to downplay his popularity before speaking about the idea of neighborly love. “You put in your article that the Robertson family really believes strongly that if the human race loved each other and they loved God, we would just be better off. We ought to just be repentant, turn to God, and let’s get on with it, and everything will turn around.”

The famous patriarch of the Louisiana family insists that his opinions are not meant to judge others, and shared his explanation. “We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus – whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?”

However, Robertson’s comments have caused an uproar. As a result, GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz released the following statement: “Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe. He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans – and Americans – who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples.”

Robertson clarified his comments in a statement to PEOPLE, “I myself am a product of the ’60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs, and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”

  • Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson Talks Homosexuality

Phil Robertson of A&E’s Duck Dynasty is under fire following comments he made regarding homosexuality during an interview with GQ. Among other things, the Robertson family patriarch told GQ that he that he doesn’t understand homosexuality at all and that he considers it a sin. The interview will appear in the January 2014 issue of GQ.

Robertson and his family are well known for their Christian beliefs. The Robertson men and their family speak about their faith at events throughout the U.S., and Phil’s oldest (and beardless) son Alan is a preacher. That said, it probably comes as no surprise that the duck hunter considers homosexuality a sin when asked about “modern immorality.”

“It seems like, to me, a vagina–as a man–would be more desirable than a man’s anus,” Robertson said. “That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

Robertson added to his thoughts on homosexuality by discussing what he thinks it can branch out to. “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” Robertson said. “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers–they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right,” Robertson added, pulling from 1 Corinthians 6:9.

To say that Phil Robertson’s beliefs on homosexuality weren’t received well by some would be putting it lightly. GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz released a statement on the comments and wants A&E to reconsider their affiliation with Robertson and Duck Dynasty.

“Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe,” Cruz said . “He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans–and Americans–who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil’s decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families.”

A page has been created on Facebook encouraging people to boycott A&E and Duck Dynasty, and the topic is being widely discussed on Twitter. Do you think A&E should cancel Duck Dynasty over Phil Robertson’s comments or do you support Robertson’s right to state his beliefs? Add your comments below.

  • Duck Dynasty Christmas Special Brings in the Viewers

Judging from the number of viewers the Duck Dynasty Christmas special had, it seems like a lot of folks were glad to get their bearded men fix. The Christmas special–which came after a seven-week wait from the last episode–reeled in almost 9 million viewers on Wednesday night. Even though the end-of-season numbers are down a little for the popular A&E show, the special did help season four end on a good note.

The Christmas special featured the Robertson family preparing to put on a Nativity play for their church. Willie and his wife Korie played the parts of Joseph and Mary, while Jase, Uncle Si and Godwin were the Three Wise Men. As usual, Uncle Si managed to get in a “Si-ism” by saying he was bringing the “franken scent.” No surprise there, but it was a challenge to keep the Robertson men and their workers on task while practicing lines.

While all of the Nativity play preparations were going on, Phil, Kay and Jessica (Jep’s wife) went out to hunt for a wild hog to eat after the Christmas play. Even though Phil’s policy is “Never ever take a yuppie anywhere,” he did make an exception for his son’s wife. Despite Jessica and Kay’s constant chatting, Phil did manage to bag a hog. Phil had Jessica prove just how country she is by making her help carry the feces-covered hog back to his truck, where he gutted it in front of her.

All’s well that ends well, right? Despite the bearded men goofing off during practice and Phil’s setbacks while hunting, the night of the big performance went smoothly. As a bonus, Uncle Si had his tea in hand during the Nativity play, but this time it was in a gold chalice instead of his usual blue Tupperware cup.

To say that Duck Dynasty fans enjoyed the Christmas episode is probably a bit of an understatement. Check out some of the Twitter posts below where fans raged about how great the episode was.

Season five of Duck Dynasty will premiere on January 15. To get in the Christmas spirit, check out the Robertson family’s Christmas album Duck the Halls. The album was released on October 29 and features songs such as Camouflage and Christmas Lights and Ragin’ Cajun Redneck Christmas. Like everything else the Robertson clan touches, the Christmas album has been very successful and is at the #2 spot on Billboard’s Top Country Album Chart, just behind Garth Brooks.

  • Duck Dynasty Christmas Special A Success

It seems like everyone loves the Duck Dynasty family. Everywhere you look there are camouflage blankets and clothing and numerous other types of merchandise with quotes or photos from the show. To get everyone in the spirit, A&E aired the Duck Dynasty Christmas Special on Wednesday might, which brought in 8.9 million total viewers.

The special was the last show of the season, and was expected to be a hit. Duck Dynasty has had an amazing year and his a record high back in August with 11.8 million viewers. This year’s Christmas special viewer rating improved by 37 percent from last year’s special.

The Robertson family, who are the stars of the Duck Dynasty series captured the heart of fans from the first episode. While some may find it hard to find a group of bearded men in camouflage clothing charming, most people are hooked within a few minutes of tuning in to the show.

Many fans were nervous about a fifth season after the network announced that they were in the midst of a lengthy contract negotiation, with neither side being able to come to an agreement.

Luckily, the negotiations have ended and there will indeed be a fifth season of Duck Dynasty that will air on Jan. 15, 2014. Fans may notice a few changes to the show, including some new cast members. One of these cast members will be Rebecca, the daughter of Willie and Korie Robertson. Rebecca has been away at school, but is now home and ready to be part of the show. Viewers can expect to see a few more new faces this season as well.

  • Duck Dynasty Christmas Special a Major Hit

Duck Dynasty Christmas Special a Major Hit

The Robertson clan has become a worldwide sensation. Millions of viewers tune in to A&E every week to find out what the bearded Robertson men will be up to next. This week was a special week for the Duck Dynasty enthusiasts, as back-to-back episodes aired including the much anticipated Christmas special.

Because of their growing popularity and massive empire, it was no surprise that the Christmas special brought in 8.9 millions viewers. While the numbers are impressive, they still did not break their overall record of 11.8 million viewers during their fourth season premiere in August.

We all know that the Robertsons can hunt, and we found out that they could sing after the release of their Christmas album, Duck The Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas, but did you know that they can act too? During the nativity play at their church, each member of the Robertson family took part in telling the story of the birth of Jesus. “Considering the talent involved, it’s borderline miraculous we pulled off the play,” Jase Robertson said.

    (image)

Earlier this month, the infamous Uncle Si talked to Us Weekly recalling his favorite Christmas memory. “We lived in a farming community. The hands that drive the tractors. . . they don’t make a lot of money,” Si explained. “Daddy had fell off an oil rig, broke his back and was not working. Two weeks later, the woman comes back and hands mama an envelope. It was something like $500 or $600 in an envelope with ‘Merry Christmas’ on it for the kids,” he continued. “That’s my favorite Christmas memory. This is people that didn’t have much, giving a lot. Which is what Christmas is all about: giving.”

In true Robertson tradition, Willie ended the episode with a very touching message. “Everyone knows that the meaning of Christmas is giving,” he said. “But what makes the season truly special is the variety of ways to give.”

  • Ducks Invade New York CVS Pharmacy

Wayward ducks descended upon a Saratoga Springs, New York CVS Pharmacy branch last week, only to be subdued with a Swiffer mop and a bag of popcorn.

In a video uploaded to YouTube by a user named Aplue, one can see the badelynge of roughly 50 daft ducks, who were able to bypass the entrance and run amok (not really, they just sort of hung out) in the aisles. A resourceful employee attempted to shoo these crazed ducks with a mop, only to realize that popcorn was key in luring the maddened fowl out the door.

The confused ducks came from Congress Park, which is up the street from the CVS branch, and those shooed joined their duck friends who were waiting outside.

“There was no serious damage to the store, except for a small amount of mud that the ducks tracked in on their webbed feet,” according to Aplue’s description of the video.

Perhaps these well-behaved ducks sought vaccination from this season’s avian influenza mutation, while cashing in on ExtraCare rewards. A group of ducks is typically called a brace, a badelynge or a bunch, though the most common name is a flock. The male duck is called a drake and the female is called a duck.

In related duck news, Cherokee County police in Georgia have made an arrest in the case of the stolen Duck Dynasty effigy of Uncle Si. A Ball Ground 16-year-old confessed to the crime. According to Police Chief Byron Reeves, “Someone called in a tip and said they’d seen it on a porch outside the city. He admitted that he did take it on his way home one night, and he burned it because he got afraid of the media attention and what it got on social media.”

  • Teen Arrested in Duck Dynasty Scarecrow Case

A teenage suspect has been arrested and is being charged of theft by taking after he stole the life-size scarecrow replica of Si Robertson.

The scarecrow was made by the Ball Ground Elementary School fourth-grade parents for the city’s annual scarecrow contest. It took 40 hours to complete and, surprisingly, looked almost identical to Uncle Si.

Ball Ground Police Chief, Bryon Reeves, said they started the search for the scarecrow after a concerned citizen called to report it missing last week. They then had another tip that the scarecrow was sitting at a neighboring home, but when they went to retrieve it, it was gone again.

“We discovered after a little investigation that a juvenile had taken it. I made contact with the juvenile who lives a little further away and he admitted to taking it,” Reeves said. “It was nothing but ashes it was completely gone.”

City Manager Eric Wilmarth said the juvenile admitted to taking the scarecrow, but did not live in Ball Ground, he just happened to be passing through and thought the scarecrow was “cool”.

“He was just passing through downtown Ball Ground and thought Uncle Si was pretty cool and wanted him. He just didn’t think about the consequences, and I am sure didn’t think there would be so much publicity,” Wilmarth said. “The young man has expressed remorse — he is sorry for what he did — it’s just one of those things you can’t back up and undo.”

After realizing what he had done and the consequences for his actions, the juvenile decided to dispose of the scarecrow by burning it.

“It’s unfortunate that they lost their scarecrow, but maybe … out of his own remorse, he might make them a new one,” Reeves said. “If they learn anything, it is that stealing is wrong no matter whose it is; if it’s not yours, don’t take it.”

Allison Martin, who is one of the parents who helped make the scarecrow, said the parents have made the decision to forgive the thief.

“To begin with we were kind of upset, the main reason we had done ‘Duck Dynasty’ was because of the background and their beliefs and we truly believe in them, and as a community we have to forgive,” Martin said.

Doug Knott, the principal of Ball Ground Elementary School said he is taking this incident and turning it into a positive learning experience for the students.

“As you can imagine, the students were very proud of their creation and the positive attention he had received from the community and strangers alike. While it is very disappointing to think that someone would take the scarecrow, I’m sure the individual did not take the time to think through these actions,” Knott said. “Though initially the loss was hurtful to our students and our community, our students are very forgiving and ready to move this into a positive learning experience.”

  • ‘Duck Dynasty’ Scarecrow Thief is Arrested

‘Duck Dynasty’ Scarecrow Thief is Arrested

Poor Uncle Si can’t catch a break. Between the guys on Duck Dynasty giving him a hard time for his vocabulary and naps and someone stealing and burning up a scarecrow made in his likeness, the tea-guzzling duck hunter is always catching grief. Cherokee County police in Georgia have made an arrest in the case of the stolen Duck Dynasty scarecrow. It turns out that the thief was a teenager.

A police report was filed last week that said someone had stolen a Duck Dynasty scarecrow from downtown Ball Ground. Police offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who had information that led to the arrest and conviction of the scarecrow thief.

The police received a tip at the end of last week that led to the arrest of a 16-year-old, who confessed to the crime. “Someone called in a tip and said they’d seen it on a porch outside the city. He admitted that he did take it on his way home one night, and he burned it because he got afraid of the media attention and what it got on social media,” Police Chief Byron Reeves said.

A group of moms from Ball Ground Elementary worked an estimated 40 hours to make the scarecrow look just like Uncle Si, and were quite upset at the news it had been stolen, but they have forgiven the teen thief.

“To begin with we were kind of upset, the main reason we had done Duck Dynasty was because of the background and their beliefs and we truly believe in them, and as a community we have to forgive,” Martin said. Martin is referring to the Christian beliefs the Robertson clan is very open about on the show, and every Duck Dynasty ends with patriarch Phil Robertson saying grace.

While the teen has been charged with theft, he is described as being remorseful over his actions. “He felt bad about what he did and he actually talked about going and apologizing to the class,” Ball Ground City Manager Eric Wilmarth said.

  • Duck Dynasty Shirt Landed a Student in Hot Water

As the Duck Commander guys say on A&E’s Duck Dynasty, “You can’t spell ‘stupid’ without ‘S,I,” and that’s a sentiment that many people are feeling after a high school student was forced to take off his Duck Dynasty shirt. The shirt features the popular Uncle Si Robertson with one of his funny sayings, “I will hurt you physically and metaphysically.” School officials at Dinwiddie High School in Virginia found the shirt threatening to the other students.

Hunter Spain and his family are huge Duck Dynasty fans, the popular show that follows a bunch of self-proclaimed redneck millionaires around watching them do everything from conduct business to duck hunting. “For this to be considered as a threat to the school,” said Edna-Jo Spain, Hunter’s mother, “I couldn’t understand it. Anybody that ever watches Duck Dynasty knows that Si Robertson is famous for his little funny slogans.”

Considering Duck Dynasty is one of the most popular shows on TV right now, it’s hard to believe that the people at the school would take it seriously, but Hunter was given the choice to turn his Duck Dynasty shirt inside out or go home and change. He opted for the latter and said, “I’m not going to look stupid in front of all of these young ladies in the school. So, I decided to get a different t-shirt.”

The school has released a statement on the offending Duck Dynasty shirt, and they said that it simply violated dress code. “If you are a Duck Dynasty fan you understand the meaning of the shirt,” said David Clark, school superintendent. “But if you haven’t watched Duck Dynasty you may question if the shirt implies violence. As a school division, we would like to keep our slogans on student shirts as non-violent as possible.”

What do you think about the Duck Dynasty shirt? Respond below. A lot of Twitter users weren’t too happy about the decision:

  • “Duck Dynasty” Patriarch Delivers Powerful Sermon

“Duck Dynasty” has become a huge, breakout hit for A&E, with the bearded faces of its stars gracing everything from t-shirts to backpacks and the stars themselves commanding a pretty nice salary per episode. But the show doesn’t delve too far into the family’s faith, even though they are all active members of the Whites Ferry Road Church of Christ in Virginia; brother Alan has been a pastor there for over 20 years.

“We can’t get into spiritual matters on the show too much,” family patriarch Phil Robertson said. “That’s a little much for the production company. They say, you know, it’s not the Pat Robertson show.”

Despite that part of their lives being downplayed on the show, the family is still deeply religious. Robertson himself delivered a powerful sermon to the congregation on Sunday, talking about our country and how everyone needs to repent.

“I’m not the only one that needed to repent. The whole lot of you needs to repent. All the rest of America. Right? Yeah,” Robertson said. “Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure? ‘Oh, we’ll always be here. We’ll always have our freedom. We’re America, the greatest country on Earth!’ Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis — a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?”

When Alan Robertson announced he was going to be joining the show, he spoke about how he would have to give up part of his duties with the church and said he and his family thought long and hard about how the move would impact the children involved. But in the end, he felt he could reach a bigger audience through a newfound fame.

“My children are grown, but all of my brothers’ children are teenagers now, so how is this crazy world going to impact them?” Alan told the New York Post. “We think about John Luke and Sadie, who are such a big part of the show and they’re teenagers, you know? They need to be just normal teenagers. We pray about that. Any person that’s an evangelist, that’s what you want to do, so I had to give this up for something possibly bigger.”

  • “Duck Dynasty” Gets Premiere Date Amid Salary Negotiations

“Duck Dynasty” is coming back to A&E on August 14th, despite rumors that the network couldn’t work with the stars’ salary demands.

The breakout hit–which focuses on the Robertson family–earned a massive following last season, with 9.6 million viewers tuning in for the finale. The cast members decided they’d earned a raise, and were reportedly asking for $200,000 an episode. A&E executive producer and CEO Philip Segal spoke about the negotiations in March and didn’t avoid the tensions that arose between the cast and the network.

“The ‘Duck Dynasty’ guys… they don’t need the money. They’re having fun, right? It isn’t about the money, right? They were wealthy to begin with. These A-type personalities… the network says, ‘Can’t you get them to be behave?’ No. They are crazy, which is what makes them compelling characters,” said Segal. “When a show is a successful, it becomes a problem.”

Season 4 is moving forward, so it looks like some sort of agreement has been reached. The new episodes will feature Alan, the Robertson brother who is a regular member of the family’s speaking engagement tour but has never been on the show. You’ll know him by his lack of facial hair.

Alan, who is a pastor in Louisiana, said he had to think long and hard about whether he wanted to put his family through the same insanity his brothers have been through in the past couple of years.

“My children are grown, but all of my brothers’ children are teenagers now, so how is this crazy world going to impact them?” Alan told the New York Post. “We think about John Luke and Sadie, who are such a big part of the show and they’re teenagers, you know? They need to be just normal teenagers. We pray about that.”
