  • Kelly Ripa to Receive GLAAD’s Excellence in Media Award, Anderson Cooper to Present It

Kelly Ripa will receive the Excellence in Media Award at the upcoming GLAAD Media Awards in New York City. Her good friend Anderson Cooper will present the award to the Live! With Kelly and Michael star. Ripa learned this exciting news on Monday.

“For over a decade, Kelly Ripa has greeted millions of viewers with messages of acceptance and inclusion,” GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement. “By sharing inclusive stories with her audience and loudly voicing support for her LGBT friends and fans, Kelly is helping to drive acceptance forward.”

Kelly Ripa will be in good company when receiving this Excellence in Media Award. Past recipients include Diane Sawyer, Tyra Banks, Julianne Moore, Glenn Close, Barbara Walters, Judy Shepard, and Russell Simmons.

The GLAAD Media Awards are scheduled for May 9th at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Ross Mathews will host the event. Distinguished guests will include Laverne Cox, Transparent star Jeffrey Tambor, Jonathan Groff, and Homeland’s Rupert Friend.

This isn’t the only honor Kelly Ripa celebrated on Monday. On Sunday she won Best Entertainment Talk Show Host with cohost Michael Strahan at the Daytime Emmys.

Just days ago Kelly Ripa shared some emotional words in honor of the late Dr. Frederic Brandt. The renown cosmetic surgeon took his own life earlier this month.

Hopefully her Emmy Award and Excellence in Media Award from GLAAD will help lighten the heavy heart she has felt since her dear friend’s passing.

  • Kelly Ripa Lauds Dr. Frederic Brandt at His Memorial

Kelly Ripa sang the praises of her dear friend, Dr. Frederic Brandt, at his memorial service at Lincoln Center in New York City on Thursday. Surrounded by more than 3,000 white orchids, she took the stage to pay tribute to the late cosmetic surgeon, who took his life on April 5th in his Coconut Grove, Florida home. He was 65.

The last of 11 speakers at the memorial, Kelly Ripa told the crowd how sad she was to be speaking of her friend in this manner.

“This is the saddest thing that I never thought I would have to do,” she said. “When I look out into this room I see so many beautiful faces and I realized that Fred is all around us. He is with all of us now.”

In addition to Kelly Ripa, Dr. Frederic Brandt treated celebrities including Madonna, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Stephanie Seymour, and Joy Behar. The View co-host spoke with People magazine about the late doctor.

“He was so much fun,” she said. “We used to talk about Bette Davis all the time.”

“He was just a great person, a great friend,” Kelly Ripa said on Live! With Kelly and Michael. “He will be missed. I cannot tell you how much I will miss him. I’ll miss him every day of my life.”

Ripa shared a funny story about Frederic Brandt at the memorial, too.

She talked about suffering a break-out when she was scheduled to shoot a TV commercial. She called the doctor, who came to her rescue but made sure she knew he was on a very tight schedule and a solution had to be found very quickly so he could get back to his office.

“Then a group of male models disrobed and oiled up and suddenly Fred and I are ordering lunch,” she said. “We sat there with the door cracked open giggling like children. We laughed so much that day.”

“That is what I will remember the most about him: his laughter, his unabashed joy, his sense of humor, his kindness, his selflessness,” she said. “He gave us everything he had and there will never be another Fred Brandt.”

Kelly Ripa lost a dear friend with the untimely death of Dr. Brandt. Hopefully speaking such wonderful words about him at his memorial service will help her start to heal.

  • Kelly Ripa Grief Stricken Over Death of Dr. Fredric Brandt

Kelly Ripa Grief Stricken Over Death of Dr. Fredric Brandt

Kelly Ripa appeared grief stricken on Live! With Kelly and Michael on Tuesday.

“He was such a great man… he was just a great person, a great friend, he will be missed–I cannot tell you how much I will miss him. I will miss him every day of my life,” she said while on the air.

Cosmetic surgeon Dr Fredric Brandt was found dead by suicide inside his Miami mansion on Sunday. Kelly Ripa had long been among his celebrity clients–and dear friends.

“If you love someone tell them every day that you love them because you don’t know if you will have that opportunity….It’s sad. Oh my gosh, he was just the best. He would sing to you while he put Botox in your face–any song you wanted. He could sing anything at a moment’s notice,” she said.

On Monday, Kelly Ripa tweeted her heartache upon learning that Dr. Brandt had died over the weekend.

Kelly’s husband, Mark Consuelos, retweeted sentiments about the plastic surgeon’s passing.

In addition to Kelly Ripa, some of Dr. Frederic Brandt’s other celebrity clients included Madonna and Joy Behar. There were, of course, numerous others.

Suicide is probably the hardest type of death for survivors to accept. Dr. Brandt’s family members and his beloved clients–like Kelly Ripa–will no doubt always wonder what they might have said or done that could have prevented the doctor from taking his life.
