  • Downton Abbey: The Best Of Fan Artwork

Downton Abbey: The Best Of Fan Artwork

Downton Abbey has become so massively popular, it’s been difficult to stop and wonder why. But the more you think about it, the more curious it is that a show about a stuffy British family and their land dispute during a time when women wearing trousers was unspeakable is just odd. Why do we love it so much?

The answer isn’t forthcoming, because as far as I can tell, the show just has that something. It’s a mixture of atmosphere and the inherent drama of the time period, of forbidden love and romances that seem perfect but which keep us in suspense as the characters realize their true feelings. The fact that these characters are presented as wealthy, stately people who all seem to have rather large skeletons in their closets just ups the ante.

That’s why it’s not much of a surprise that the show has spawned not only a loyal following, but a huge array of fan art which encompasses many types of media and can be found in all corners of the web. Here are a few of the best I’ve found.

  • Breaking Bad Meets Downton Abbey and Cooks Up One Hilarious Cup of Tea

Thanks, Colbert Report. Thank you for this wonderful brew of two great shows. Thank you for getting the cast of Downton Abbey to participate. And most importantly, thank you for getting Lord Grantham to say “mo money, mo quandaries.”

If this doesn’t make you excited for the upcoming seasons of both Breaking Bad and Downton Abbey, I don’t know what will.

Hulu has just announced a slew of PBS programming that will now be available on Hulu Plus. The first round of new content includes 200+ episodes, and Hulu says that there is much more on the way.

This week, we added approximately two hundred PBS episodes to Hulu Plus, including dozens of episodes from Ken Burns library, the first season of Masterpiece: Downton Abbey and episodes of PBS Kids series including Arthur, Dinosaur Train and Wild Kratts. We will also add hundreds more episodes over the coming weeks, including more kids’ favorites like Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and Superwhy, as well as additional episodes of NOVA, Masterpiece and American Experience – top-quality PBS series that Hulu users have already come to enjoy.

As a Downton Abbey skeptic, I can now say that all of the buzz surrounding the show is totally justified. Plus, who wouldn’t get excited about NOVA and Mister Rogers?

Some of this content, including Ken Burns docus and Masterpiece programming has been either entirely or partially available on rival Netflix for a while.

Hulu Plus is currently offering a free trial, and after that is $7.99 a month. It is available online, as well as on Xbox, PS3, and Android/iOS apps.
