Doug Flutie Combines Football With Dance Skills on “Dancing With the Stars”

Doug Flutie, who played for the Chicago Bears from 1986-1987, is competing on this season of Dancing With the Stars, and he’s combining his football prowess with his dance skills to turn out his best performance.

Paired with pro dance partner Karina Smirnoff, she wrote in her blog about using football moves to help Doug Flutie remember his dance moves.

“What has really worked for us is using football terminology and movements to help Doug remember the dance. I’ve also worked with him on developing a story through the movements so that each one makes sense to him as we progress through the dance,” she wrote.

Karina Smirnoff had no idea who Doug Flutie was when learning she was paired with him for the DWTS 22nd season.

Flutie first rose to fame when playing football at Boston College. That’s why his opening number on Monday evening was Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” which is a Boston Red Sox favorite.

The dance pro has one major complaint about Flutie.

“Doug loves slouching! So I’m constantly reminding him not to give in to the gravity of life and always look up,” she wrote.

  • “Fuller House” Cast Supports Jodie Sweetin’s “Dancing With the Stars” Gig

The Fuller House cast is behind Jodie Sweetin as she prepares to compete on the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars. Sweetin recently reprised her role as Stephanie Tanner on the Full House reboot.

“I think so many people know me as Stephanie and as that character, which is amazing and there’s been incredible support for it,” Sweetin said in an interview with People magazine on Tuesday. “But now I get to show people who I am and also, I kind of get to find out stuff about myself.”

Jodie Sweetin isn’t the first of her Fuller House cast mates to compete on Dancing With the Stars. Candace Cameron Bure, who plays DJ Tanner, competed on season 18 of Dancing With the Stars, alongside Mark Ballas. She can’t wait to see her Fuller House co-star compete.

“I am so ready; I am more than ready,” she told E! News when Sweetin confirmed she was competing. “I am just there. I will try not to take over for her because I might nudge myself back onto that dance floor.”

Jodie Sweetin has met her dance partner, Keo Motsepe, and thinks they are a good match. The Fuller House star will compete against Good Morning America’s Ginger Zee, The O.C.’s Mischa Barton, Denver Broncos linebacker (and recent Super Bowl MVP) Von Miller, TV news personality Geraldo Rivera, The Facts of Life and The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Fields, UFC Fighter Paige VanZant, Boyz II Men’s Wanya Morris, former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie, America’s Next Top Model winner Nyle DiMarco, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown and actress (and ex-wife of current GOP hopeful Donald Trump) Marla Maples.

It will be fun to watch Jodie Sweetin compete on season 22 of Dancing With the Stars. It will be fun to see if her Fuller House cast mates show up in the audience from time to time, too.

The new season of DWTS premieres on March 21.

  • Doug Flutie: Both Parents Die of Heart Attack Less Than an Hour Apart

Former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback Doug Flutie lost both of his parents on the same day – less than an hour apart.

According to Flutie, his father Dick, who had been ill, had a heart attack. Soon after, his mother Joan also had a heart attack.

Flutie says he’s sure his mother died of a broken heart. His parents had been married for 56 years.

“It is with a heavy heart that I am making this statement. This morning my family experienced the tragic loss of my father, Dick and mother, Joan. My Dad had been ill and died of a heart attack in the hospital and my Mom, less than an hour later had a sudden heart attack and passed away. They say you can die of a broken heart and I believe it,” Flutie wrote on his Facebook page.

“I would like to honor my parents for all that they did throughout my and my brothers’ and sister’s lives. My parents were always there for their children, from the days my Dad coached us as kids and my Mom would work the concession stands, through to this morning. The most important part of their 56 years of marriage was providing opportunities to their children. They were incredible parents and Grandparents and my family and I will miss them both. On behalf of me and the entire Flutie family, I would like to thank you all for your well wishes and prayers during this difficult time.”

  • Avocados From Mexico Super Bowl Ad Proves To Be A Hit

When you think of Super Bowl ads, you think beer commercials and/or car commercials. However, one surprising Super Bowl ad is stealing the show. Avocados from Mexico unveiled their “First Draft Ever” ad spot that features Jerry Rice, Doug Flutie, and a Cro-Magnon providing analysis for the first draft ever in the history of the world. In the commercial, the Kangaroo was drafted by Australia eliciting cheers from Rice and Flutie.

The Avocados from Mexico ad pokes fun at the sloth as it gets chosen by Brazil for its draft pick. “Off-the-field issues,” Rice says. While Flutie remarks, “Not a locker-room guy.” The United States selects wheat while the commercial ends with Mexico swooping in with a late-round steal after a trade to grab the avocado.

According to reports, avocados have ascended through the ranks of America’s new favorite fruit. With it being a prime ingredient for Guacamole, it seems Avocados from Mexico found their perfect audience with the Super Bowl crowd.

The Super Bowl ad was just the first part of Avocados from Mexico’s new ad campaign. The hashtag #FirstDraftEver is also part of the company’s social media push. Aside from the TV spot, more videos were made by the Austin-based creative agency, GSD&M.

Alongside the viral marketing and the Super Bowl ad, the website for Avocados from Mexico also underwent an overhaul. Seven videos will also be appearing online via Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter.

The Super Bowl ad spots are some the most desirable TV spots for companies to unleash their ad campaigns, what with the number of viewers that tune in to the Super Bowl every year. It continues to be a successful platform for everyone from companies releasing their new ad campaigns or film studios unveiling new footage and trailers for their upcoming films. So this is definitely good news for Avocados from Mexico.
