  • Domino’s Pizza buys Joey’s Pizza To Become Germany’s Go-To Delivery Place

Domino’s Pizza knows that Germans are super serious about their pizza, and now they own a bigger slice of that market.

Britain’s Domino’s Pizza Group has joined with Domino’s Pizza Enterprises to buy Joey’s Pizza and create Germany’s largest pizza delivery business.

The venture will reportedly cost 45 million euros, which is 33 million pounds and somewhere around 35 million dollars.

Domino’s Pizza has been struggling in recent years over in Germany, which is kind of surprisingly the world’s fourth largest pizza market.

Domino’s Pizza has 20 stores across Germany, 15 of which will become part of the new group and five of which will close down altogether.

Joey’s is doing much better than Domino’s pizza, with 212 stores nationwide. Joey’s has been in business for 27 years.

So, if you live in Germany and you happen to be a fan of mediocre pizza, then you should be really excited about this Domino’s Pizza merge.

That will bring the total number of stores across the nation to 227, as Domino’s Pizza tries to “overcome the challenges it has faced as a small operator in the country”, the company said in a statement.

  • Hackers Blackmail Domino’s Pizza

    Hackers Blackmail Domino’s Pizza

Domino’s Pizza recently found itself threatened with the release of hundreds of thousands of stolen accounts to the internet.

According to ITNews, a hacker group known as Rex Mundi had attempted to blackmail the Domino’s Pizza operations in France and Belgium with the release the account information of hundreds of thousands of customers.

Allegedly they had the account information from 592,000 French customers and 68,000 Belgian customers.

The customer information being held for ransom by the group includes the person’s name and address along with their telephone number, email address, and account password.

The group was demanding €30,000 or $40,600 USD.

Domino’s French Twitter account admitted that it was likely the hackers had the information and that a breach had occurred.

The group was referred to as “seasoned professionals”. Even though the information was encrypted, Domino’s believes Rex Mundi probably had the ability to decode the information, passwords included.

Rex Mundi’s own Twitter account has since been suspended.

A spokesman for Domino’s tried to allay their customers’ fears by confirming that no banking or financial information was accessed by the hackers. That is because Domino’s does not hold on to payment information. Due to the way customer data is stored, names, phone numbers, and email addresses are the most vulnerable to hackers.

Despite the ensuing headache, Domino’s Pizza have opted not to give into the blackmail attempt. Instead the company alerted the French authorities.

Domino’s Pizza is the latest company targeted by Rex Mundi. The group previously released thousands of customer loan records after Americash Advance refused to pay them $15,000. They also attempted to blackmail a Belgian hosting firm named Alfanet.

Though Domino’s has confirmed that it’s likely these individuals were able to get the information they hold, it’s not known how many customer account details Rex Mundi will release since they are unlikely to get their money.

  • Domino’s Creates A DVD With Pizza Smell As Part Of New Ad Campaign

Domino’s Creates A DVD With Pizza Smell As Part Of New Ad Campaign

Domino’s is no stranger to odd and bizarre marketing stunts. It’s latest – a DVD that smells like a pizza – may be one of its strangest (and most brilliant) yet.

Creativity Online reports that Domino’s Brazil has teamed up with ten video retal stores in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro to cover popular DVDs with a thermal ink that lets off a pizza smell when heated. When the movie was over, the heated DVD would give off a pizza smell to the consumer. It was also painted to look like a pizza with the message, “Did you enjoy the movie? The next one will be even better with a hot and delicious Domino’s Pizza.”

I have to admit – it’s a pretty brilliant marketing strategy. It’s especially effective in countries like Brazil where streaming services have yet to really take off. Most consumers have to rely on DVD rental stores to check out the latest movies. Making the DVD smell like pizza would definitely make me hungry, and it just might work on hungry Brazilians as well.

  • Innovation Secrets From Domino’s: Really?

    Innovation Secrets From Domino’s: Really?

Today Forbes featured an article about Dominos pizza where one of their sharp-witted employees created a new snack that consumers are crazy over. It was great coverage of how innovation can take place at any level in the corporate world. Patrick Doyle, CEO of Domino’s Pizza was quoted in the article as saying, “A great idea can come from anywhere”.

The story comes to a conclusion with a Domino’s ad clip that features Doyle and begins with his statement, “At a big company new ideas don’t usually come from the local store level,”. As a consumer and someone who knows a lot about where innovations comes from, I found this remark both condescending and typical of corporate mentality. Take a look:

I think this is great story from Forbes, but seriously, innovation doesn’t usually take place at a corporate level, all levels of an operation are capable of innovating whether it be incremental or groundbreaking. I would argue that many great innovation in the corporate world originate and gain momentum at the ground level before the ideas are even pitched to the corporate big wigs.

I think this is common business knowledge at this point in America. Sorry Patrick Doyle, I doubt you have had any great epiphany about customer service or what customers want from Domino’s while sitting behind your desk inside the office. When your business is serving customers, you have to engage those clients face to face everyday to truly get a sense of what they want or need.

Perhaps this guy who created the garlic pizza bites or whatever would make a great addition to your corporate team. Maybe he does’t posses all the scholarly credentials you conventionally seek, but he has ground level experience and could probably school you on how to run a Domino’s location and make customers happy, and that matters.

Input and subsequent innovations should come from all levels in any business. If you’re discounting feedback from a segment of your workforce, you’re cutting yourself off from vital information that could lead to your next big innovative leap. Also, listening to customer feedback can be just as instrumental in innovating, why do think every big company asks you to take a survey now days?

  • Domino’s Pizza Now Covers More Than 80% Of Smartphone Pie With New Android App

Imagine this fast food miracle: You can now order a pepperoni pizza from the palm of your hand from nearly any Domino’s Pizza in America. Listen, you don’t get to be the recognized world leader in pizza delivery without thinking big. Domino’s Pizza announced today, the launch of its new Android smartphone ordering app. Combined with its existing iPhone app (which launched last June), Domino’s can now offer mobile ordering to more than 80 percent of customers with smartphones.

The app, compatible with Android version 2.1 and higher, offers customers many of the same convenient features from Domino’s online ordering platform. Hungry customers with the application will be able to search for coupons, order from a full national menu, locate a store with a GPS store locator and even follow their order with Domino’s Tracker. In addition, Domino’s will also offering free Android smartphones to customers who sign up for a new two-year service plan plus data (or extend their current plan which includes data, pending eligibility).

Russell Weiner, Chief Marketing Officer for Domino’s Pizza said, “We are excited to now connect Domino’s with Android users through this new app. And what better way to celebrate Domino’s new Android app than by offering free Android phones.”

This new app for Android joins forces with a mobile and online ordering platform that has already had massive success. Domino’s app for iPhone and iPod touch helped Domino’s reach $1 million in total sales in only 28 days. Incredibly, only three months after its release, the application achieved over $1 million in sales for the Pizza giant in a single week. Along with traditional online ordering, mobile ordering makes up 30 percent of Domino’s sales.

  • Domino’s Pizza Gets In On March Madness

Domino’s Pizza Gets In On March Madness

What is your favorite kind of pizza? Are you a pepperoni person or just cheese? Do you like a lot of vegetables on your pizza or are you more of a meat lovers fan? Would your favorite style of pizza beat the others? These are the kinds of things Domino’s Pizza wants to know, and thanks to their Domino’s Pizza Bracket on their Facebook page, fans will have a chance to vote their favorite all the way to the top of the pizza world.

Because Domino’s is leveraging March Madness with its latest Facebook promotion — they are already considered the “Official Pizza of March Madness” — this competition is presented in the tournament format, with popular pizza styles getting the top seeds. The pizza that receives the most votes will advance to the next round, until their is only one style remaining.

16 pizzas will enter and only one will win.

Unfortunately, details about Domino’s bracket setup — that is, which pizzas will be in the tournament — are still under wraps because voting does not begin until tomorrow, March 17th. There is, however, a nifty graphic to remind their 2.2 million-plus Facebook fans about the promotion.

    Domino's Promotion

Not only does Domino’s want to know what pizza its fans like best, the company also updated its “Pizza Tracker” page, giving it the March Madness makeover, with basketball-related images and sound effects. Clearly, Domino’s is holding on to that “Official Pizza of March Madness” business has hard as they can.

The pizza National Champion will be crowned during the Final Four, and without even looking at the participants, I’ve already got my money on pepperoni pizza destroying the competition. In fact, my Final Four of Pizza is any kind of derivative of these styles: Pepperoni, sausage, meat lovers and a meat and veggie combination.

What about you? What’s your favorite pizza style? Let us know in the comments.
