Dixie Chicks Heading Out on Tour in 2016

The Dixie Chicks–Martie Erwin Maguire, Emily Erwin Robison, and lead singer Natalie Maines–are planning a concert tour in 2016. The 40-city-plus tour will kick off on June 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio. It winds down in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl on October 10. The Dixie Chicks are calling their upcoming tour the “DCX MMXVI World Tour.”

The last time to Dixie Chicks released an album or went on tour was back in 2006. “Taking the Long Way” won Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards.

Since the Dixie Chicks were last together, sisters Emily Erwin Robison and Martie Erwin Maguire formed a duo called Court Yard Hounds. Natalie Maines released a solo album in 2013.

Back in 2003, the Dixie Chicks caused a bit of controversy back in 2003, and it took a long time to live down. Just days before the Iraq War began, Natalie Maines said while at a concert in London, “We don’t want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States (George W. Bush) is from Texas”. Although many in London applauded the Dixie Chicks’ outspoken statement, the group was soon boycotted in the U.S. as a result.

A few days later, Natalie Maines tried to explain herself, saying, “I feel the President is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world.”

It was too little, too late, however. Her comment resulted in considerable financial loss for the Dixie Chicks.

Fans are no doubt ready to see the Dixie Chicks back on tour. How do you suppose country music stations–many of whom also boycotted the group–feel about the Dixie Chicks heading back out on tour?

It will be interesting to see if the Dixie Chicks stick to their traditional sound or if they create some new music to accompany them on the road. Do you expect Natalie Maines will behave in a more refined manner during their upcoming tour?

It was too little, too late, however. Her comment resulted in considerable financial loss for the Dixie Chicks.

Lots has changed since then, and fans are no doubt ready to see the Dixie Chicks back on tour. It will be interesting to see if they stick to their traditional sound or if they create some new music–and maybe a whole new style–to accompany them on the road.

  • Dixie Chicks to Launch First Major Tour In Nearly a Decade

The Dixie Chicks are going to hit the road for the first time in nearly a decade.

According to CBS News, the Grammy-winning group announced the launch of a 40-city-plus tour. Dubbed the “DCX MMXVI World Tour,” the tour will kick off on June 1 in Cincinnati.

According to the Dixie Chicks’ website, the world wide tour will last through the fall, culminating at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Oct. 10, 2016.

The Christian Science Monitor reports that the girls originally planned to limit their tour to Europe, but added venues in the United States.
The Dixie Chicks have been rather silent over the past few years. The trio’s last album, Taking the Long Way, was released in 2006 and garnered a Grammy for album of the year.

The chicks parted ways and sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire formed their own duo Court Yard Hounds, while Natalie Maines released her debut solo effort in 2013.

Despite parting ways, the Dixie Chicks are an incredibly successful music group and the highest-selling female group in the US, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

Tickets for the U.S. dates of the 2016 Dixie Chicks World Tour will go on sale this Friday.

  • Dixie Chicks Singer Joins Taylor Swift Onstage, Brings Childhood Dream To Life

Dixie Chicks singer Natlie Maines joined Taylor Swift onstage during a recent tour stop in L.A., and Taylor later said the moment meant a lot to her because of her childhood love of the band.

Maines sang the Chicks’ hit “Goodbye Earl” with Swift, who says she used to sing the group’s songs at every talent show when she was younger. Which just goes to show that even with all the fame and money in the world, sometimes a girl just gets starstruck.

“I used to sing Dixie Chicks songs at every talent show. Singing ‘Goodbye Earl’ with Natalie tonight was unbelievable,” Swift wrote on Twitter.

Swift also gave mad props to Natalie and the Dixie Chicks onstage, crediting them for letting her be herself.

“If not for this woman and her band, I would not have known that you can be quirky and fun and yourself and outspoken and brave and real. When I was 9 years old and got her first CD, I wouldn’t have dreamed the things I dreamed, and I wouldn’t be standing on this stage today,” Taylor said.

The Dixie Chicks star wasn’t the only guest to come out for a surprise; Ellen DeGeneres and Alanis Morissette made appearances as well. Morissette was there to do a duet on “You Outta Know”, and Taylor reportedly told the audience that Alanis inspired her songwriting, saying she penned the “greatest breakup song of all time”. That, coupled with the performance of “Goodbye Earl”, leave us wondering what Taylor is trying to say.

“I think it’s fair to say that so many of the female singer-songwriters of my generation, including myself, would not write the way that we do without her [Morissette] and her music. And she has written some of the most brilliant music—in particular probably inarguably the greatest breakup song of all-time,” Swift reportedly said to the crowd.

  • Natalie Maines’ Divorce From Country Spawns Solo Album

Natalie Maines’ Divorce From Country Spawns Solo Album

One of the Dixie Chicks has struck out on her own and released a solo album. Natalie Maines this week released Mother, a rock album that breaks from the Dixie Chicks’ country music past.

Maines told CBS in an interview this week that the album has a “harder-edge rock feel” than what the Dixie Chicks were playing. Maines told CBS that it would be hard for her to return to country music after fans lashed out in 2003 when she spoke out against the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

“It’s definitely difficult for me to go back to country music,” said Maines. “So, yes, I’m sure that 10 years ago did have an effect on where I’m at right now and the fact that I’m doing this solo album.”

The Dixie Chicks have not released an album since 2006’s Taking the Long Way. Maines stated that she has not seen her former bandmates in around one year.

Maines also appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America on Monday to promote the Album. She and Ben Harper performed her first single from the album, titled “Without You.”

Maines is also promoting her album through her various social media channels. She is currently answering questions from fans via her Twitter account using the hashtag #chatwithnat.
