Jaguars Player Tries to Use Gum as Currency

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Dwayne Gratz was arrested early Sunday morning after attempting to “purchase” several items at a grocery store at the Ocean Reef Suits in Miami Beach, Florida. Gratz was out of cash at the time, and decided to attempt to use bubble gum as legal tender.

According to a Miami Beach Police Department report, a seemingly besotted Gratz became agitated after a store employee refused to accept his gum as currency. Other patrons were startled, and began to exit the establishment, which prompted the clerk to contact the authorities. At this point, Gratz refused to leave the store.

The two officers who arrived on the scene reported that Gratz had bloodshot eyes, and smelled of alcohol. The 2013 third-round draft pick refused to vacate the premises, after being given multiple opportunities, and bluntly told police, “No. I’m not leaving.”

Gratz was then arrested at 5:53 a.m., and charged with disorderly intoxication and trespassing, which are both misdemeanors. The Connecticut alum spent the night in a Miami-Dade county jail, and was released Monday after posting a $1,000 bail.

Gratz must know by now that one cannot pay for goods and services with Big League Chew:

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley commented that any punishments Gratz might be dealt for his gum-bartering concepts would be handled internally.

“He (Gratz) had an unfortunate situation over the weekend. It’s not good, what took place, but it is a matter that we have to investigate even more. … I want to talk to him and then we’ll handle it within,” Bradley remarked.

Headed to Miami to move that gum:

Gratz has logged a team-high five pass breakups, so far this season.

  • Farrah Franklin Arrested For Disorderly Conduct

Former Destiny’s Child member Farrah Franklin was arrested in South Carolina over the weekend.

Franklin, who was a part of the group four five months before leaving in 2000, was arrested for disorderly conduct after a night of partying at Myrtle Beach on July 20.

Farrah had been drinking with NFL players Daquan Bowers and Ricky Sapp. Upon returning to Sapp’s home, the men called the police when Franklin refused to stop yelling and slamming doors. When the police arrived, they found Farrah lying in a neighbor’s yard.

According to authorities, Farrah told them that she “did not have anywhere else to go and was planning on sleeping in the woods.” Farrah was booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Sunday and was later released on a $280 bond.

Yesterday, Franklin opened up about the arrest on her social media accounts, posting motivational quotes.

“I pray for God to give me strength in every weak and weary place in My life and, for Him to turn My obstacles into Victories. Amen,” she tweeted.

She later took to her Instagram account to reveal that she is trying to stay away from any negativity. “Unbothered and staying prayed up and, away from any negativity. #StillStanding?? #GodsChild Don’t judge what you don’t know. The sad thing is people LIVE for drama but run from the truth, Smh,” she wrote. “There’s always 3 sides to a story your side, my side and the TRUTH! But the truth is normally not as interesting as a lie, lol. Thank you to EVERYONE who has reached out to send me love and Blessings during this messy time in my life it’s greatly appreciated. #TheNerveOfSomePeople #AllICanDoIDLaugh #OnlyGODCanJudgeMe #MyLife #Instagram.”

  • Shia LaBeouf Arrested at Broadway’s ‘Cabaret’

Shia LaBeouf was taken away from a Broadway performance of Cabaret in handcuffs on Thursday night following some very bizarre behavior. He’s been charged with two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of criminal trespassing. The show, which stars Michelle Williams and Alan Cumming, was in its first act when the Transformers star started behaving in a very disruptive manner. The NYPD reports that Shia was also ‘making threats.’ The cast and audience members witnessed the rather disturbing scene.

LaBeouf made big headlines earlier this year for his ‘performance art’ in Berlin–wearing a paper bag over his head at a red carpet event that read ‘I’m Not Famous Anymore.’ That, of course, has some people wondering if Thursday night’s stunt at the theater was yet another facet of the bizarre actor’s ‘performance art.’

Social media is abuzz with comments about the strange incident.

Actress Lena Dunham seemed to find humor in the odd situation.

Coincidentally–or not–this weekend marks the premiere of Transformers: Age of Extinction–and this is the first film in the franchise in which Shia LaBeouf isn’t starring. Mark Wahlberg has taken over his role.

Is Shia LaBeouf mentally unstable or is he simply displaying his ‘performance art’ in a most belligerent way? Is he trying to get attention because Transformers premieres this weekend and he isn’t part of the award-winning cast?

Either way it’s kind of sad. The former Even Stevens Disney child star was adorable and talented. His career skyrocketed shortly thereafter. Something has very clearly gone wrong.

  • Father Arrested At School Board Meeting

Since 2007, Jodi Picoult’s best-selling novel Nineteen Minutes has been taught as part of the curriculum at Gilford High School in New Hampshire.

The book touches on the subject of high school bullying and includes a school shooting. However, that is not what one father was upset about.

William Baer attended a school board meeting on Monday night to object to the teaching of the book. He claimed that there were scenes in the novel that reminded him of an “x-rated film.”

“I’ve never read anything like this,” Baer said. “It’s like the transcript for a triple-X-rated movie. I’m outraged that Gilford High School would require my daughter to read this kind of material,” Baer continued.

“I feel that I’m in the process of being violated by the state of New Hampshire’s education system. It’s not there place to dictate and I’m outraged that Gilford High School would require my daughter to read this kind of material.”

Baer was further unsettled when the board enforced their two-minute rule. The board allows parents to speak for two minutes before moving on to the next speaker.

Although this is a common rule of the meetings, Baer claimed that his First Amendment Rights had been violated. “It was basically, you make a statement, say what you want and sit down,” Baer said. “Sit down and shut up, basically, and that’s not how you interact with adults.”

After Baer voiced his opinion, he was led out of the meeting by a police officer at the request of the school board. He was then arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct. Gilford Police Lt. James Leach explained that Baer spoke out of turn. “He spoke out of order,” Leach said. “Someone else was given the floor and was speaking. He interrupted them and continued after being asked to stop. He was then asked to leave and refused to leave unless he was arrested, so he was arrested.

  • Scorpions Drummer Jailed for a Month in Dubai

Scorpions Drummer Jailed for a Month in Dubai

Scorpions drummer James Kottak was arrested at Dubai International Airport for drunk and disorderly conduct on April 3, and was sentenced to 30 days in jail for the crime of insulting Islam. According to Dubai state-run newspaper The National, Kottak flipped the bird and mooned other travelers while in an airport transit hall.

Kottak told police he had taken a wrong turn on his way to a Formula One grand prix gig in Bahrain, and subsequently denied flashing his middle finger, dropping his pants or insulting Islam.

A witness described as ‘Officer AA’ said he heard Kottak saying “what is this disgusting smell?” before insulting Islam. “I didn’t see anything else but I heard him. I then informed my supervisor, who came and took the defendant away,” AA added. A Jordanian passenger services agent called ‘AB’ said that Kottak was shouting “non-educated Muslims” and then gave other passengers the middle finger.

Kottak has been sitting in a Dubai jail since the incident, and will soon be released, having logged some time served. Kottak did plead guilty to being intoxicated without a license, and paid a fine of roughly $550. The drummer also explained that he was merely showing people his back tattoo, not mooning. During his misdemeanor trial, Kottak’s attorney Hamid Al Khazraji told the judge, “Their testimonies are contradictory, your honor.”

Scorpions are a German rock band formed in 1965, and have sold between 75 and 100 million records worldwide. Here is a bit of a Scorpions refresher:

  • Paul Simon Arrested; Down By Schoolyard?

Paul Simon Arrested; Down By Schoolyard?

The Papa said, “Oy, if I get that boy,
I’m gonna stick him in the house of detention.”

    – Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard

Singer-songwriter Paul Simon was arrested Saturday night, along with wife Edie Brickell, on disorderly conduct charges. According to ABC News, police were called to the couple’s home in New Canaan, Connecticut about a disturbance. When they arrived, they discovered there had been a “family dispute”.

“Investigating officers gathered information and found probable cause to arrest” both Simon and Brickell.

The couple has been married since 1992, but have been together since 1988 when they met on the set of Saturday Night Live. Brickell was there to perform with her band, New Bohemians, when she spotted Simon by the camera.

“Even though I’d performed the song hundreds of times in clubs, he made me forget how the song went when I looked at him,” she said. “We can show the kids the tape and say, ‘Look, that’s when we first laid eyes on each other.” The couple do have three children together.

Brickell recently did an album with funny man and banjo player Steve Martin, credited as Steve Martin and Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell.

Simon is a prolific songwriter with 12 studio albums to his credit, as well as live albums. His for mer partnership with singer Art Garfunkel is still the stuff of legend in folk circles.

Simon was a huge proponent of what came to be called “world music”, spearheading that movement in the United States with his album Graceland, featuring the vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The album went 5x Platinum, and became Simon’s biggest-seller to date.

The couple were scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court this morning on the disorderly conduct charges. Disorderly conduct is a Class C Misdemeanor under Connecticut law, and is defined, in part, as:

    (a) A person is guilty of disorderly conduct when, with intent to cause inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof, such person: (1) Engages in fighting or in violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior; or (2) by offensive or disorderly conduct, annoys or interferes with another person; or (3) makes unreasonable noise;
