  • Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton Share Disneyland Adventure Via Facetime

Gwen Stefani spent Thanksgiving in L.A., while new beau Blake Shelton spent it at his Oklahoma abode. The next day, however, the two shared a Disneyland adventure. No, Blake didn’t hope a plan for L.A. the day after Thanksgiving. Instead Gwen Stefani Facetimed him from Anaheim.

Gwen Stefani was spotted strolling through Disneyland on Friday with sons Kingston, nine, Zuma, seven, and one-year-old Apollo. She was smiling as she talked to Blake Shelton on her phone via Facetime. Kingston even got in on part of the conversation.

Blake Shelton likely loved what he saw during his Facetime session with Gwen Stefani. An Instagram photo she shared earlier that day showed a very stylish, sexy Gwen. The Facetime call no doubt (or No Doubt) brightened her fellow Voice coach’s day.

    #disneyland !!!!!!!! Gx

Following her call with Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani had fun with some Star Wars characters at Disneyland.

“#disneyland #darthvader gx,” she captioned this one with Darth Vader.

“Hi #chewbacca gx,” Gwen Stefani captioned this photo of her with Chewbacca.

It’s likely when Voice coach and Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine sees the photo of Gwen Stefani with Chewbacca that he’ll make a comment about the character being better looking than Blake Shelton. Blake and Adam love to slam each other as part of their ongoing bromance.

Blake Shelton will be back in L.A. soon, as both he and Gwen Stefani are scheduled to appear on the next live airing of The Voice on Monday.

Facetime is a great substitute when you can’t be with the ones you love, but there’s nothing quite like being together in person.

  • Gigi Hadid Receives Marriage Proposal

    Gigi Hadid Receives Marriage Proposal

Gigi Hadid received a marriage proposal on Friday. Does that mean boyfriend Joe Jonas got down on bended knee and proposed marriage to her?

    No.

That didn’t stop Gigi Hadid from smiling–and maybe even blushing a little–when she received the proposal.

So who proposed to Gigi Hadid?

    Mickey Mouse.

The fashion model enjoyed a day at Disneyland with Joe Jonas on Friday. Mickey enjoyed meeting Gigi Hadid so much, he proposed to her.

“I’ll be your Minnie ;),” she captioned a photo posted to Instagram.

A photo posted by Gigi Hadid (@gigihadid) on

In addition to the sweet marriage proposal, Gigi Hadid and Joe Jonas enjoyed some of the thrill rides Disneyland offers. They and several of their friends rode on Pirates of the Caribbean, the Jungle Cruise, and the Haunted Mansion.

Gigi Hadid also shared a Disney photo taken with a friend.

“disney days, bestie days,” she captioned the shot.

A photo posted by Gigi Hadid (@gigihadid) on

Disneyland is definitely a place where magic happens. Gigi Hadid and Joe Jonas no doubt spent a fun-filled day on Friday with their friends.

Do you suppose Mickey Mouse’s romantic proposal on bended knee gave Joe Jonas any ideas about proposing to Gigi Hadid?

Of course the two haven’t been dating for all that long.

Maybe by this time next year if they’re still together, Gigi Hadid could receive a real proposal.

  • Penelope Disick Turns Three, Mom Kourtney Kardashian Takes Her to Disneyland

Penelope Disick, daughter of Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick, turned three on Wednesday, and Kourtney helped her little girl celebrate by taking her to Disneyland, The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star even dress like Tinkerbell–as did Penelope–for the birthday adventure.

Aunt Kim Kardashian West and North West joined Penelope to help celebrate the excitement of turning three.

On Thursday Kourtney shared some highlights of Penelope’s big day–via Instagram.

This first shot shows the “real” Tinkerbell alongside Kourtney Kardashian and Penelope Disick.

“I bet you didn’t know there were three tinkerbells. #disneyland,” Kourtney captioned the photo.

This next photo shows Penelope Disick enjoying a huge, delicious birthday treat.

“Happy birthday to the sweetest little girl in the world. Watching your every little move everyday brings me immeasurable happiness. #toomuchfunyesterdaytopost #disneyland,” her mom captioned the picture.

And this last shot is a solo photo of Penelope in her Tinkerbell attire.

“You forever changed my life and my heart and teach me so much everyday. Happy birthday my tinkerbell angel,” Kourtney Kardashian wrote.

How sad that Scott Disick missed out on Penelope Disick’s birthday. One look at this little girl–or at brothers Reign and Mason Disick–and most find it hard to imagine Scott would rather spend time partying than with his children.

Kudos to Kourtney Kardashian for always having her children’s best interests at heart and for making sure Penelope Disick had a proper third birthday celebration–and to Kim Kardashian West and North for going along to add to Penelope’s fun.

  • Christina Aguilera Reportedly Calls Mickey Mouse an A**hole During Disneyland Meltdown

Christina Aguilera did the unthinkable during a recent birthday outing to Disneyland by calling Mickey Mouse an A**hole.

According to TMZ, the former Mouseketeer had quite the meltdown Dec. 18 at the famed Anaheim, California park with her fiancé Matt Rutler and a group of friends.

The 34-year-old diva apparently lost it when she wanted to take a pic with Mickey Mouse and found that the character was on a break.

A source told TMZ that Aguilera called Mickey an “a–hole” and demanded, “Do you know who I am?” TMZ claims that the poor Disney character had to be taken to a “safe zone” when members of Aguilera’s party began “hurling threats.”

Another source close to The Voice coach told Us Weekly that “Christina is a frequent guest at Disneyland. She loves the park and they adore her.”

No word on the incident from the singer, apart from a photo she posted the day after the alleged incident.

Aguilera got her career start on The Mickey Mouse Club in the 1990s, along with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

  • Christina Aguilera Reportedly Has Beef with Mickey Mouse

Christina Aguilera Reportedly Has Beef with Mickey Mouse

You’d think that Christina Aguilera’s time on The Mickey Mouse Club in the early 90s would give her some extra clout at one of the celebrity mouse’s homes – but it appears that when Mickey needs a break, Mickey needs a break.

TMZ is citing its “theme park source” for a tale of celebrity, rejection, entitlement, and choice language. According to the gossip site, Aguilera didn’t take kindly to being told that she couldn’t have a picture with Mickey Mouse during a recent outing to Disneyland.

Apparently, Mickey was set to go on a break – right as Christina wanted to make some photo memories.

    From TMZ:

Aguilera lost it, and called Mickey an “asshole.” We’re told she even dropped the dreaded, “Do you know who I am?”

Xtina’s crew started hurling threats, we’re told … and Mickey had to be ushered to a safe zone — out of public view. Security was called, but by the time they arrived … the former Mouseketeer had already split.

We can confirm that Christina was, in fact, at Disneyland a couple of weeks ago via her Instagram. Whether or not there’s beef with Mickey, well, that’s left to be seen.

  • Heidi Klum and Seal Do Disney With the Kids

Heidi Klum and ex-hubby Seal may have had a rocky break up but the two appear to be taking their co-parenting duties very seriously–and succeeding at them, too. The two were spotted with their children–Leni is 10, Henry is 8, Johan is 7, and Lou is 4 years old–doing Disneyland and having lots of wholesome family fun. It was Wednesday when the whole gang was spotted riding the rides and laughing with Mickey Mouse.

Klum, who is presently a judge on American’s Got Talent, and the ‘Kiss from a Rose’ singer split back in 2012 after seven married years together. At Disneyland the family enjoyed King Triton’s Carousel, the teacups (hope no one threw up), a boat ride, and even a roller coaster.

One of the brave parents (who survives that many theme park rides in one day?) was still smiling when it came time to ham it up with Mickey Mouse.

“Great day in Disneyland!!!! Thank you Mickey!!” Heidi Klum captioned her Instagram photo.

On Sunday the supermodel turned 41, so perhaps the Disneyland adventure was a pre-birthday family bash for Mom? No one would believe the former Sports Illustrated cover girl and Victoria’s Secret model was past 40 if they didn’t see it in black and white. Klum has aged gracefully and doesn’t appear as though she’s had much–if anything–done to preserve her youth.

Kudos to Heidi Klum and Seal for their efforts at co-parenting. For many parents this becomes dropping the children off at the ex’s for the weekend or shuffling back and forth a week at a time. This mode of co-parenting Klum and Seal appear to have isn’t so much about the living arrangements as it is about being a family, and making it clear to the children that even though Mom and Dad couldn’t make their marriage work that they’re still a family and that their parents will unite for their benefit.

One day all six of them will reap the benefits of having raised their children this way.

  • Poppy Montgomery Secretly Married Shawn Sanford at Disneyland

Poppy Montgomery and Microsoft executive Shawn Sanford have been married since February 19.

Montgomery broke the news on Friday when she appeared on Live! with Kelly and Michael.

The wedding ceremony took place at Disneyland. The couple’s children were present and Mickey and Minnie Mouse presided.

“My mother was horrified. She was like, ‘How do you turn Disneyland into Vegas? You don’t run away to Disneyland and get married!’”

Montgomery said the kids were more excited about the setting and special guests than the wedding itself:

” … my children were so in awe of Mickey and Minnie that they didn’t really pay any attention to the wedding. And then my stepdaughter said, ‘Why is Minnie dressed better than you?’ Because I wore jeans and Minnie was in a sort-of bridal gown.”

Montgomery and Sanford are parents to daughter Violet Grace, born in April 2013. Montgomery is also mother to six-year-old Jackson, her son with actor Adam Kaufman.

While with Kaufman, Montgomery downplayed the importance of marriage:

“If Jackson, our son, wanted us to [get married], I would for him because sometimes it’s important to kids, [but] marriage was never a priority for me,” she said in 2011. “I feel like the bigger commitment is actually having a child together, that’s really forever. With marriage, you can get a divorce.”

Montgomery has played Detective Carrie Wells on the CBS crime series Unforgettable since it premiered in 2011. Prior to that the Australian-born actress was known for her starring role on the police procedural series Without a Trace which ran on CBS from 2002 to 2009.

Unforgettable made headlines in 2012 when CBS cancelled the series after its first season, then picked it up for a 13-episode second season a little over a month later. In September 2013 it was renewed for a third season, which will air this summer.

  • Justin Bieber and Austin Mahone Play Basketball in Leather Pants

Justin Bieber and Austin Mahone seem to have put all their differences regarding Selena Gomez aside. Justin was upset when Selena went to Disneyland with the Mmm Yeah singer. Not only did the two singers record a duet last week at Miami’s Hit Factory studio–they also enjoyed a game of pick up basketball. The two likely drew lots of strange glances toward their game, however, as they both played while wearing leather pants. Keep in mind that the weather in Miami these past few days has been humid and has soared well into the 80s. Leather pants aren’t really conducive to playing basketball–but when you’re Justin Bieber and Austin Mahone, that apparently doesn’t come in to play.

Justin Bieber was said to be so pleased with his collaboration with Austin Mahone in the recording studio that he reportedly gave him one of his own songs to record as well. Birdman and Mack Maine are supposedly responsible for getting the two young men together in the recording studio.

Bieber and Mahone were spotted in Miami Beach enjoying a night on the town and seemed like they were having a great time together.

Just a few days Justin tweeted the following message about his time inside the Hit Factory.

Austin shared the following Instagram photo a few days ago of himself with Justin Bieber and Birdman. He captioned the photo “Day 2! #StudioNights”

While it’s not unheard of for young men like Justin Bieber and Austin Mahone to mend their ways over a woman and to record together in the studio, it is a bit strange for them to play basketball while wearing leather pants. Hopefully if Justin and Austin go out for yet another afternoon of shooting hoops they will consider dressing the way one should while in Miami–maybe a pair of shorts and a t-shirt would be a bit more appropriate.

  • Gary Sinise Treats 50 Veterans to Disneyland

It’s been almost 20 years since Gary Sinise played the character Lieutenant Dan in the feel good movie Forrest Gump. However, that role still has a dramatic effect on the actor’s life. On Valentine’s Day, Sinise treated 50 military veterans to a free trip to Disneyland in California. And he also got a few of his Hollywood friends to show up and pay tribute to our wounded warriors.

Tom Hanks, Tom Arnold, and Ted Danson joined Sinise and his charirty The Gary Sinise Foundation in welcoming the wounded veterans to California. Sinise’s charity helps to serve veterans, first responders, and families in need of assistance.

The Gary Sinise Foundation’s mission statement:

Freedom and security are precious gifts that we, as Americans, should never take for granted. We must do all we can to extend our hand in times of need to those who willingly sacrifice each day to provide that freedom and security. While we can never do enough to show our gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more

The veterans were also treated to a viewing of Forrest Gump which features Sinise as Lt. Dan, a proud military leader who loses both his legs fighting in Vietnam. Lt. Dan turns to alcohol and falls into deep depression but is saved by Gump when the two men start up Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and strike it rich.

The film has had a profound effect on Sinise who hosts various special events for members of the military. The CSI: NY actor even named his rock band, The Lt. Dan Band. The band plays at military bases around the country.

Sinise spoke about the iconic role, “Who would have thought that 20 years later Lieutenant Dan would still play a part in my life? There’s something different about this part… The veterans in my family, what had happened to them when they came home from war, I just felt such compassion for them and guilt too.” The actor added, “There’s a hopeful ending to the story of Lieutenant Dan and all our wounded veterans want that story… that they can be standing up again and moving on with life and doing alright. The whole purpose is to send them home smiling. They should know what I’m trying to do here.”

  • Gary Sinise Takes Wounded Veterans to Hollywood

Gary Sinise has never forgotten his role in the award winning film Forrest Gump as Lt. Dan. In fact, he said recently during an interview with ABC that he still embraces the role today.

“There’s something different about this part,” he said.” “I’ve walked into so many hospital rooms and they look at me and they think I know what they’re going through.”

He formed the Gary Sinise Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for veteran initiative. Even though he didn’t know firsthand how these veterans were suffering, he knew he had to do something to help them.

“I just couldn’t not do anything,” Sinise said. “I’ve seen a lot of need and I’ve become very committed to [being] somebody who can try to make a difference.”

“There’s a hopeful ending to the story of Lieutenant Dan and all our wounded veterans want that story, that they can be standing up again and moving on with life and doing alright,” he continued. “The whole purpose is to send them home smiling. They should know what I’m trying to do here.”

In February Gary Sinise took a group of 50 wounded veterans from Walter Reed Bethesda, Fort Belvoir in Virginia, and Naval Medical Center San Diego to where this all began for him as Lt. Dan–Hollywood. He flew the solders on a private charter plane provided by American Airlines. The group even received a police escort as they drove through Los Angeles.

The first stop for Sinise and the wounded veterans was Disneyland. Disney welcomed them with open arms, free admission and a guide who moved them all to the front of the amusement lines.

“After the injuries and all that, it feels like you can’t go out in the world anymore,” Staff Sgt. Michael Irish, one of the wounded veterans, said. “All you want to do is be in a dark room and just sleep it off… and now with Gary and his organization helping us… to have fun and be yourself, that’s very important to all of us.”

At Paramount Studios Gary Sinise arranged for a private showing of Forrest Gump, and Tom Hanks himself came to greet the group and mingle among them. Tom Arnold and Dan Danson showed up to visit with the troops, too.

Sinise has long set an example in Hollywood that’s hard to beat. He has given of himself for wounded soldiers through his organization and his band–the Lt. Dan Band. He likely spends more time these days giving back than he does acting. Sinise stars in CSI: New York. Kudos to him and the fine, selfless work he does for U.S. veterans.

  • Holly Madison Gets Married in Disneyland

Holly Madison Gets Married in Disneyland

We all know Holly Madison as Playboy creator, Hugh Hefner’s, girlfriend. She appeared on the five seasons of the show “Girls Next Door” which centered around the Playboy life of Hefner and his three girlfriends.

However, she recently put that life behind her as she married her boyfriend of two years, Pasquale Rotella. This is the first wedding for both of them.

The newlyweds have been engaged since June. Their daughter was three months old at the time. The engagement occurred at the top of the Ferris Wheel at EDC Las Vegas, she said on her blog soon after the engagement.

Madison is a hugh fan of Disney so it was no surprise that she chose for her wedding to take place at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The wedding was at the Magic Kingdom around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday late evening, right outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in New Orleans Square, according to Us Weekly.

The couples daughter, Rainbow Aurora, was in attendance at the ceremony. She is six months old.

On Holly’s blog, she posted Monday saying that she and her new hubby waited until the last minute to get their marriage license. “We did it! Last wedding prep item taken off the checklist-we went and got our marriage license this morning!,” she wrote.

Holly Madison’s new husband Rotella is the founder and CEO of Insomniac Events. As stated on Celebrity Networth, “Pasquale Rotella is the CEO of Insomniac Events, one of the most successful electronic music promotion and event companies in the world. He is also the creator of the hugely popular Electric Daisy Carnival, which began as a one-day electronica event held in Southern California, and has since expanded.”

  • John Stamos Taking Quadruple Amputee to Disneyland

Former “Full House” star and teen idol, John Stamos, has promised 19 year-old, quadruple amputee Kaitlyn Dobrow a date to Disneyland.

Kaitlyn has been living in the hospital, at Irvine Medical Center in Southern California, since February. She had contracted meningocococcemia, a vicious bacterial infection that is related to meningitis and moves through the blood stream cutting off circulation to the limbs. Kaitlyn has undergone 12 surgeries and multiple skin grafts, including the amputations of all four of her limbs.

    http://youtu.be/uDn2hEcz91s

Even after all that Kaitlyn has been through, her mother still says that she remains positive and upbeat. “Kaitlynn has had an amazingly positive and courageous attitude throughout this illness and is determined to have a happy, fulfilling life, believing that God has an awesome plan for her future. She is my hero,” her mother said.

Stamos visited Kaitlyn in the hospital today and posted a picture with her saying, “I’m ONLY doing this cause they asked. I said no press. But this story is a must read… plus me and katie have a date to Disneyland.”

Kaitlyn’s mother set up a page on the “Give Forward” fundraising website to help with Kaitlyn’s hospital costs. The page raised a total of $77,736 in donations. “Kaitlyn Dobrow is our 18-year-old daughter. She was a typical busy teenager, and had tons of energy. She worked, danced, boxed, and did mixed martial arts. She loved cooking and going out with her friends, rarely being at home,” Dobrow’s mother wrote in Kaitlyn’s biography. You can read Kaitlyn’s full bio on “Give Forward’s” website, or on her Facebook page “Caring for Katie”.

Kristen Kidd, Kaitlyn’s best friend, thanked Stamos for his visit through a tweet:

AT&T Becomes the Official Wireless Carrier For Disney Parks

AT&T announced this week that it has become the official wireless provider for The Walt Disney Company’s theme parks, including Disneyland and Disney World.

As part of the agreement, AT&T will get Disney-related marketing and branding opportunities, including sponsorship of events at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Disney “Cast Members” (employees) will soon be suing AT&T’s network for mobile devices and will also receive education about AT&T’s anti-texting-and-driving campaign.

AT&T will also expand its wireless network in Disneyland and Disney World. The carrier plans to deploy more than 25 distributed antenna systems, 350 small cells, 40 repeaters to expand its network in Disney’s U.S. parks. It also plans to place 10 cell sites across the Walt Disney World Resort.

“This is a great combination,” said Andy Geisse, CEO of AT&T Business Solutions. “Bringing AT&T’s fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network and mobile connectivity to one of the most creative companies on earth is something we’re excited about. I’m confident Disney’s guests and Cast Members will be thrilled with the experience we deliver.”

  • Saudi Prince Throws Disneyland Paris Party For €15 Million

Saudi Prince Throws Disneyland Paris Party For €15 Million

Saudi Prince Fahd al-Saud has taken his love of Disney to the extreme, renting out sections of Disneyland Paris for a special celebration.

According to a Telegraph report, the prince paid €15 million to close sections of Disneyland for his and his 60 guests’ use. The event was reportedly the final stop of a world tour that began at Disneyland Hong Kong and continued on to Disney theme parks in Tokyo, California, and Florida. The entire tour was paid for by Prince Fahd.

Prince Fahd, also reportedly designed sets and costumes for his guests to enjoy. According to the Telegraph, the costumes included “rare” Disney characters such as Jessica Rabbit and the Aristocats. The festivities began early in the morning, and ended at 2 am, far after the park’s scheduled closing time.

Prince Fahd, the son of Saudi Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz al Saud (who died one year ago), has become known for his love of Disney. The prince also reportedly spent around €800,000 last year on a Disneyland Paris party to commemorate the park’s 20th anniversary.

  • Disneyland, Disney World Tickets Hit By Price Hike

Disneyland, Disney World Tickets Hit By Price Hike

Disneyland is a place where dreams come true, but those dreams are now seeing a price hike.

Disney announced over the weekend that ticket prices for Disneyland and California Adventure will go up by $5. That translates to $92 for a one-day adult ticket, and $87 for a one-day child’s ticket. Prices at Disney World also went up.

It’s not just the one day passes that have been effected either. Disney says that those who prefer to buy annual passes will see the prices of those tickets go up by a similar amount.

So, what was the cause of the increase? Disney isn’t immediately saying. The company trotted out the usual line that the ticket price increase was spurred by a variety of factors. Oh, but of course, Disney wants you to know that $92 is still a fabulous value for the wide variety of attractions that the parks offer visitors.

To be honest, I have to agree. Disney’s theme parks may be lacking in quality roller coasters, but the unique Disney experience is almost always worth the money. Besides, the kids (and adults) still love Mickey Mouse and the other characters that have emerged from Disney’s history.

  • Disneyland Explosion: Arrested Man in Court Today

Disneyland Explosion: Arrested Man in Court Today

The man who was arrested for an explosion that went off Tuesday evening at Disneyland in Los Angeles is due in court today. 22-year-old Christian Barnes (pictured) was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of possessing a destructive device.

Barnes was working as a Disney “cast member” (employee) at the time of the explosion, selling soda and water from a mobile cart. Police believe Barnes placed dry ice into a plastic bottle, then placed it in the Toontown-area trashcan where it later exploded. The area was evacuated, and police brought in a bomb squad to investigate. Barnes was eventually identified as a suspect using surveillance camera footage.

No injuries or property damage resulted from the explosion, but Anaheim police are treating the incident seriously. Anaheim police Sergeant Bob Dunn told L.A.’s KTLA network that, while it is possible the explosion was just a prank, the police are treating it as a crime.

“The message that we would want to send to any individual who decides to do something like this is that, first of all, these may just seem like dry ice in a plastic bottle – it is very dangerous,” said Dunn. “You could be injured. You could injure others. Some people could even die.”

  • Arrest Made For Disneyland Dry Ice Bomb

Arrest Made For Disneyland Dry Ice Bomb

Yesterday afternoon, a loud bang in Disneyland L.A.’s Toontown section caused an evacuation and investigation by Ahaheim police. A bomb squad later determined that the blast was caused by a dry ice bomb made out of a plastic bottle that went off in a garbage can. No injuries or damage to park property were reported.

Today, the Anaheim police have announced that a Disneyland “cast member” (employee) has been arrested in connection with the incident. 22-year-old Christian Barnes of Long Beach, who was working at the park as an outdoor vendor, was identified as a suspect using surveillance footage. He has now been arrested on suspicion of possession of a destructive device and his bail has been set at $1 million.

Barnes, who sold soda and water at the park, has not provided a motive for the incident. Anaheim police have stated that Barnes is cooperating with the investigation, and that he told them the bomb was an “isolated incident with unanticipated impacts.”

Disneyland’s Toontown Evacuated After Apparent Dry Ice Explosion

While details are still coming in, reports reveal an explosion at Disneyland’s Toontown has caused the attraction to be evacuated. The Anaheim Police Department were part of the first responders, and based on their observations, the explosion was caused by placing dry ice in plastic bottle.

Apparently, a bomb squad from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department continued the investigation. As indicated, further details have been sparse, however, Twitter has been active with updates, including some featuring images of patrons leaving in an orderly manner:

For those who are wondering what happens when you put dry ice in a bottle of liquid, the following video demonstrates why the authorities cleared the area:

So yeah, the wunderkinds who left their little prank in a Toontown garbage can had better hope no one caught them on tape.

  • Space Mountain Closed Over Safety Concerns

Space Mountain Closed Over Safety Concerns

Space Mountain is one of the most well-known attractions in the world, and is almost certainly the most famous in-the-dark roller coaster ever built. However, fans of the attraction will not be able to ride the Disneyland California version of the coaster in the near future as Space Mountain has been shut down over safety concerns.

On Friday, April 12, Disneyland was issued safety citations by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. The description of the citations states that a contractor was injured while performing maintenance on the exterior of Space Mountain. While investigating the incident, the department found that Disneyland had not corrected “known fall hazards” on the outside of the Space Mountain building after a Fall Protection Assessment Report in 2006.

Though the safety concerns for Space Mountain do not relate to the ride itself or did not endager theme park attendees, other rides at Disneyland have also been shut down. According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, the Matterhorn Bobsleds and Soarin’ Over California were both shut down over the weekend, though the Matterhorn Bobsleds reopened on Sunday. A spokesperson for Disneyland told the Times that the closures were voluntary and that the park is “reviewing certain protocols.” An estimate for when Soarin’ and Space Mountain might re-open has not been announced.

  • Disney Segway Lawsuit: Appeals Court Orders More Studies

Disney Segway Lawsuit: Appeals Court Orders More Studies

Disney Segway Lawsuit: Apparently you can’t use a Segway in Disneyland, and one woman isn’t too happy about the fact. Tina Baughman, who suffers from limb girdle muscular dystrophy, just wanted to celebrate her daughter’s eighth birthday at “The Happiest Place on Earth”. However, when her request to use a Segway was denied by park officials, she sued the company under the Americans with Disabilities Act in attempt to right what she felt was a wrong. If people are allowed to use wheelchairs and scooters, she argued, then Segways should also be permitted within the park. The company, however, didn’t feel the same way.

Although the courts originally sided with Disney’s decision to forbid the use of the personal transportation vehicle, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is requesting the company do some research into the matter before ruling out the Segways altogether. According to the panel, “technological advances didn’t end with the powered wheelchair”. Should Disney wish to continue pushing the matter, they’re going to have to show some data which supports their belief that the vehicles pose a risk to other visitors.

“As new devices become available, public accommodations must consider using or adapting them to help disabled guests have an experience more akin to that of non-disabled,” Chief Judge Alex Kozinski wrote. “We have every confidence that the organization that, half a century ago, brought us the Carousel of Progress and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln can lead the way in using new technology to make its parks more welcoming to disabled guests.”

According to The Disney Blog, Disney World settled a similar Segway lawsuit in 2008 by offering disabled visitors a four-wheeled alternative that would allow individuals to remain in a standing position. This vehicle (ESV) would allow them to move about the park in a manner was safe for all involved. However, the blog states
