  • Disney Channel To Make Part 4 Of ‘High School Musical,’ Launches Nationwide Casting Search

Disney Channel is now looking for new cast members for the much-anticipated installment of the successful franchise High School Musical. On Tuesday, the cable channel announced on its Twitter page that they were launching a “nationwide casting search” for High School Musical 4.

The hit Disney Channel Original Movie franchise introduced some of the popular artists we know today like Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, and many more. It ended in 2008 with the theatrical release of High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

The big announcement marks the tenth anniversary of the first film, which premiered on the Disney Channel. Fans will be introduced to new East High Wildcats and new rivals from the West High Knights.

Jeffrey Hornaday, known for his work on Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie franchise, will direct and choreograph High School Musical 4. Dan Berendsen (Baby Daddy and Disney’s Hannah Montana: The Movie) and Peter Barsocchini, who wrote all three High School Musical movies, will write the screenplay for the fourth installment.

Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush are the executive producers, while Natalie Hart, Jason La Padura, and Kendra Patterson will serve as the casting directors for the planned Disney movie.

The musical film was widely successful, with the first movie garnering 7.7 million viewers. Its soundtrack easily went triple platinum and became the highest-rated program on Disney during that period. The third installment earned more than $250 million worldwide.

Disney Channel Had a Hit in ‘High School Musical’

Disney Channels Worldwide president, Gary Marsh, recently said, “High School Musical is part of Disney Channel’s DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we’re excited to announce ‘the start of something new’ – as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the High School Musical franchise.”

  • Selena Gomez to Star in Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ Music Video, Premiering at Billboard Music Awards

Selena Gomez is the final piece to the puzzle that is Taylor Swift’s upcoming music video, ‘Bad Blood’. Set to premiere tonight at the Billboard Music Awards, Swift shared the poster bearing a very sexy Selena Gomez on Saturday.

    ‘Meet Arsyn,’ she captioned it.

Selena Gomez is beyond sexy in the poster, and will no doubt wow fans when she appears in the ‘Bad Blood’ video.

Taylor Swift took to Twitter on Saturday with the poster featuring Selena Gomez.

Gomez stuns in a bob with bangs. She sports more cleavage than any 22-year-old should ever be allowed to show. She barely resembles the young Disney Channel star from The Wizards of Waverly Place. Does anyone even remember that Selena Gomez?

Just imagine what Justin Bieber must think of Selena Gomez as Arsyn.

Imagine what he’ll think when he sees ‘Bad Blood’ at the Billboard Music Awards, featuring his former girlfriend.

Will that make Justin want Selena back even more?

‘Bad Blood’ features an entire A-list cast of characters assembled by Taylor Swift. In addition to Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Lily Aldridge, Hailee Steinfeld, Zendaya, Kendrick Lamar, and Paramore’s Hayley Williams will appear in ‘Bad Blood.’ Law & Order SVU’s Mariska Hargitay and Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo are featured, as are Cara Delevingne and Lily Donaldson.

  • Lizzie McGuire In 2014: What Is She Up To Now?

Lizzie McGuire was one of the viewers all time favorite Disney Channel shows in the early 2000s.

It has been ten years since the show ended in 2004, and many fans want to know what would have happened to Lizzie if the show carried on.

Hillary Duff, the actress who played the beloved character, recently spoke to Buzzfeed, revealing where she thinks Lizzie’s life would have gone.

“I don’t think she’d be married to Gordo (Adam Lamberg). I don’t know,” Duff told the website. “I think she’d go off to college and potentially become a little cooler than she was, but still not bitchy at all. I think she’s just the biggest-hearted girl ever.”

“Maybe she’d move to New York for a while, and her parents would probably follow her and rent an apartment secretly,” the Younger star added. “I think she’s pretty smart. I can imagine her being on a path to something really special and great, but I feel like she’d still be working her way through the office grind and she’d probably constantly embarrass herself—mishaps in the office all the time. She’d probably still be wearing butterfly clips, bringing it back!”

While she doesn’t get to see her co-stars very often, Duff explained that they all hold a special place in their hearts for one another.

“I remember one time I was plugging my meter outside, and I saw [Hallie Todd], who played my mom on the show, and I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ I cried on the street,” Duff recalled. “We all, I think, hold each other in a really special place.”

  • Debby Ryan Talks Directing And Singing

Debby Ryan Talks Directing And Singing

Debby Ryan found fame on the Disney show Suite Life and while this is also where she perfected her acting skills, she said the show is also where she found a passion for directing.

She said that she would often hang around the directors and watch them carefully, almost as if she was shadowing them.

“Since I was on Suite Life, I had been shadowing directors because I’m nosey,” she told Just Jared. “All the things that get you in trouble as a kid are the things that make you successful in life. At least that’s what I’m going for. I started shadowing directors, and I fell in love with it. They started really lobbying on my half, which I was so thankful for.”

Debby has a pretty full plate right now and in addition to acting and following her passion for directing, she is also working on her singing career. Debby said that singing has always been a big part of her life and something she really enjoys doing.

“Everyone’s always like, ‘Oh so you’re doing music. Disney must be making you do music.’ And I’m like, ‘No, actually.’ I’ve had to fight really hard, against everyone, not just Disney and Hollywood Records. I’ve had to fight hard to make sure too many people don’t get to weigh in on my personal brand,” she said.

“Everything has been subject to everyone’s opinion, and music is the thing that I need to be spearheading,” Ryan added. “Having people fight for me, and being in the trenches with good people, helps. When I said I wanted to direct, Disney helped me do that. It feels good knowing that people are taking a chance on building a woman out of me.”

Debby said that because she is still struggling to find her voice and image in the music industry, she is currently concentrating the most on her music career but hopes she will still have time for music and acting as well.

  • Debby Ryan On Disney, Directing, And Singing

Debby Ryan, the 21-year-old Disney Channel star, recently opened during an interview with Bello Magazine about her career as an actor, director, and singer.

Ryan made her Disney debut when she appeared on the popular show Suite Life, and that is also where she fell in love with directing. She said she used to shadow the directors, simply because she was nosy, to learn what exactly they did.

“Since I was on Suite Life, I had been shadowing directors because I’m nosey,” she told the publication. “All the things that get you in trouble as a kid are the things that make you successful in life. At least that’s what I’m going for. I started shadowing directors, and I fell in love with it. They started really lobbying on my half, which I was so thankful for.”

While Ryan loves acting and directing, one of her truest passions has always been singing. Ryan has started work on her singing career, but admits that it hasn’t always been easy.

  • Google’s Chromecast Gets Support From More Apps

Google’s Chromecast Gets Support From More Apps

Google announced a handful of apps that have added Chromecast support, including WATCH Disney, WATCH Disney Junior, WATCH Disney XD, Twitch, iHeartRadio, and DramaFever.

The Disney apps will give users access to titles like Girl Meets World, Doc McStuffins, and Star Wars Rebels. They do, however, require a login from a supported TV provider, and there are some (like Time Warner Cable) missing from the list.

Chromecast director of global content Shanna Preve writes on the Chrome blog:

Music aficionados can now cast and blast music from the best speakers in the house with iHeartRadio. The app lets you listen to more than 1,500 live radio stations from all over the U.S. or customize your own.

You can also join 60 million gamers on Twitch to watch and talk about video games. Get insights from both casual gamers and some of the biggest professional players competing in sold out stadiums. Cast Twitch content from the web, Android and iOS apps.

The inclusion of Twitch is notable as it is being acquired by Amazon after Google reportedly backed out of a deal to purchase it. Amazon’s own Instant Video app doesn’t even offer Chromecast support at this point, though it did just become available for Android via the Amazon Appstore, and some newer Android devices have the ability to mirror their screens using the Chromecast.

DramaFever, if you’re not familiar with it, gives users access to over 15,000 television episodes from international markets, including Korean dramas, Latin American telenovelas, and various Asian TV shows.

The WATCH ABC and NPR One apps recently gained Chromecast support as well.

  • ‘Boy Meets World’ Spinoff: ‘Girl Meets World’ Gets Renewed

The Boy Meets World spinoff–Girl Meets World–has been renewed for a second season. The Disney Channel has picked up Cory and Topanga for a second go. The series based on the one that gained huge popularity in the 1990s follows the daughter of the initial series’ main characters.

Cory (played by Ben Savage) and Topanga (played by Danielle Fishel) were teenagers in Boy Meets World. Now they’re parents of the main character in the new show–Riley. She is played by Rowan Blanchard.

The spin-off was developed by Boy Meets World creators April Kelly and Michael Jacobs. It has fast become the number one show among kids aged two through fourteen since it premiered on the Disney Channel on June 27th. Kids aren’t the only ones watching the spinoff, however.

“The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with Boy Meets World,” Adam Bonnett, the executive vice president of original programming at Disney Channels Worldwide, said.

Girl Meets World doesn’t just feature Cory and Topanga. It features an upcoming cameo of Lee Norris’s Boy Meets World character, Stuart Minkus.

Were you a Boy Meets World fan? Did you keep constantly apprised of Cory and Topanga during the 1990s? Is Girl Meets World part of your new viewing repertoire?

Girl Meets World airs on the Disney Channel on Friday evenings at 8:30 PM. Now that the series has been granted a second season, you have plenty of time to become a new–or reprise your role as an old–fan.

  • Dolly Parton Speaks Out About Goddaughter Miley Cyrus

Country music legend Dolly Parton recently answered questions about her 21-year-old goddaughter Miley Cyrus.

In an interview with US promoting her album Blue Smoke, which releases today, Parton addressed her goddaughter’s headline-grabbing, often controversial behavior. She admitted that Cyrus’ transformation from clean-scrubbed Hannah Montana star to the twerking sexpot she is today was shocking, but in a good way.

“I had to laugh, I thought ‘Wow,’ but I realized she had to do it, she had to go to that extreme, so bless her heart. I just hope that she has a long career and I hope that she gets a chance to do everything she wants to do,” Parton said.

Parton, who made several guest appearances on the Disney Channel hit series Hannah Montana, said Cyrus was “spectacular” on the show.

” … but she just needed and wanted so bad to break out of that and wanted to become Miley Cyrus and she tried every way in the world to do it and nobody would let her go. So, she just had to resort to extreme measures but she pulled it off.”

Parton made it clear that she thinks Cyrus is a talented musician:

“She’s a very smart and talented girl and I really hope she does as great as I think she can and will because she’s a lot more gifted than a lot of people realize right now. So I hope her choices are good, I hope she takes what she’s done now and really turns it into everything that she wants it to be.”

Those are high words of praise coming from a lifelong performer whose career is still going strong at age 68.

Parton kicks off the US leg of her worldwide Blue Smoke Tour on May 22 in Tulsa, OK. After several stops in the US she heads across the ocean to perform the European portion of the tour, starting June 8 in Liverpool, England.

Parton’s Dollywood Company owns and operates a highly successful theme park in Pigeon Forge, TN. Her Dixie Stampede, a unique twist on the dinner theatre concept, has locations in Pigeon Forge, Branson, MO, and Myrtle Beach, SC.

“I’ve just been dragged screaming and kicking into the 21st century,” Parton said during her May 13 Today Show appearance.

Indeed she shares her goddaughter’s love of Twitter: “It’s just a wonderful way to get stuff out to people. They feel like they’re connected right to you and they have a chance to kind of say whatever they want to say.”

“It’s wonderful that I’m still here. I say I’m as old as yesterday but hopefully as new as tomorrow.”

  • Girl Meets World Premiere Date Set: June 27th On TV (Earlier Online)

The date of the squeal to the 90s TV show Boy Meets World has been set.

Girl Meets World will air on the Disney Channel starting June 27th, but according to the L.A. Times, verified viewers of the WATCH Disney Channel streaming site will be able to see the premiere as early as May 21st. For the new generation who need some background, or for the old generation who need a refresher, the Disney Channel will show a marathon of Boy Meets World on June 15th.

A sequel to Boy Meets World has been in the works since 2012. Many of the original cast are returning for the sequel, including Ben Savage as Cory Matthews, Danielle Fishel as Topanga Lawrence-Matthews, Lee Norris as Stuart Minkus, and William Daniels as Mr. Feeny. The series adds Rowan Blanchard and August Maturo, as the children of Cory and Topanga of the original series.

In a press release, the Disney Channel described that the new series will show “wonderfully funny, heartfelt stories that Boy Meets World is renowned for – only this time from a tween girl’s perspective. It focuses on relationships with family and friends and the important, indelible values therein, as the relatable and adventurous Riley and her bold best friend Maya traverse the twists and turns of teenage years at Manhattan’s John Quincy Adams Middle School where Riley’s dad is their History teacher.” It also happened to explain the plot of the series premiere, which contained a homework rebellion.

The press release went on to describe the various cameos lined up for the series’s first season: “Cloris Leachman (“The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Kiss Me Deadly”), Jane Lynch (“Glee”), Jackée Harry (“Sister, Sister” and “227”), Willie Garson (“White Collar” and “Sex and the City”), Charlotte Rae (“The Facts of Life”) and musician Herbie Hancock.”

If you’re going to wait for the show to air on television, you may be the last to see it. The premiere will not only be released on the steaming site first, but it will also get an iTunes release on June 13th, a good two weeks before it shows on TV.

    Good luck avoiding spoilers!

  • Kristin Chenoweth Cast as Maleficent in Disney Channel’s ‘The Descendants’

Kristin Chenoweth has been cast in the Disney Channel’s latest TV movie The Descendants as the iconic evil witch, Maleficent, from Sleeping Beauty.

The release date has been set for 2015. Kenny Ortega is slated to direct, and Chenoweth will appear along side Twilight’s Booboo Stewart and prolific child actor Cameron Boyce.

The actress has appeared on television before starring in shows such as Pushing Daisies, Kristin, The West Wing, and The Good Wife, during which she was injured on set. In December, she appeared for Glee‘s 100th episode.

But Chenoweth made her arguably biggest role on Broadway as another witch, Wicked‘s Glinda:

Disney first announced the made for TV movie back in December, describing the plot as a comedy about the children of well-known Disney villains:

In a present day idyllic kingdom, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic Beauty and the Beast) is poised to take the throne. His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters. These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan. However, the evil teens face a dilemma. Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?

Up and coming Disney star Dove Cameron is set to play Maleficent’s daughter, Mal, and plenty of mother/daughter antics are sure to ensue.

Chenoweth is not the only contemporary actress to tackle the character. Angelina Jolie will appear as Maleficent in a titular movie this summer. The casting announcement has spurred the imaginations of people like The Wire’s Esther Zuckerman, who thought the actresses should share other roles: “something just tickles us about the fact that these two actresses—one a tiny blonde with an impressive soprano; the other an imposing brunette movie star known for her humanitarianism—are sharing a part. What other roles in their resumes could they perhaps share?” Social media is certain to inform us if it captures the internet’s imagination as well.

However, from the look of things, Jolie’s take on the character is sure to be much, much darker:

  • ‘Jessie’ Lead Will Get Engaged, a First for the Disney Channel

The title character of the Disney Channel comedy series Jessie will accept a marriage proposal from her boyfriend towards the end of the season this fall, making her the first lead character on the network to become engaged.

The 22-year-old lead character, Jessie Prescott, played by actress Debby Ryan, will break new ground in Disney television history when she becomes deeply involved with and then engaged to her boyfriend, 25-year-old Brooks, on the series during the final four episodes of the upcoming fall season.

“Jessie is an adult, and we felt we could tackle this in a way that still feels appropriate for our audience,” said Adam Bonnett, Disney Channel executive vice president of original programming.

Jessie focuses on the title character, a young Texan woman who moves to New York City to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. She is hired to work as a nanny for a wealthy couple, and care for their four children they adopted from Africa, India, and America.

The Disney Channel focuses on programming geared towards children ages 6 to 11, but Jessie, which is in its third season, also attracts a slightly older “tween” audience, ages 9 to 14. The show is popular, with an average weekly audience of 2.9 million viewers. According to Nielsen company statistics, Jessie ranks in the top five series for children and younger teenagers.

The romance between Jessie and Brooks is depicted innocently, showing the couple going on picnics in Central Park and movie dates, Bonnett said.

Ryan, who plays Jessie and turns 21 on May 13, is in her real life not in a rush to get married to her boyfriend of one year, Josh Dun, musician of Twenty One Pilots. Ryan said, however, that it is believable that Jessie would marry, as people in Ryan’s social circle have started to become engaged and marry recently.

Ryan makes her directorial debut on Jessie this season, and is currently finishing work on an album she plans to release in June.

Jessie airs on the Disney Channel on Fridays at 8 p.m. EST.

  • ‘Jessie’ Lead Marrying in Disney Channel First

The Disney Channel openly admits that its target demographic is six to eleven year old children, despite the propensity of many adults tuning in to the channel as well. Because of this target demographic, however, there are certain concepts Disney Channel shows have not been able to explore. Surprisingly, one of those issues has been marriage. This year, things will change, however, as the Disney Channel plans to air its first wedding of a lead character in one of its shows.

Jessie centers around the life and adventures of 22-year-old Jessie Prescott, played by Debby Ryan, who has moved from a strict, military family in Texas to the great state of New York in order to pursue a career in acting. While there, she manages to land a job as a nanny to four kids for a filthy-rich family. The comedy does a good job at introducing children to diversity as the four children are adopted from India, Africa and America.

In a four-episode arc this fall, however, Jessie’s priorities will be rearranged as she focuses on her up and coming wedding to 25-year-old Brooks, played by Pierson Fode. Disney Channel executives assure its audience, though, that the relationship and wedding will be handled in a chaste manner: “The way we deal with this romance is very pure Disney fairy tale,” stated Adam Bonnett, Disney Channel executive vice president of original programming.

When asked if marriage is an appropriate subject for the show to be progressing toward, Bonnett was confident that Disney was making the right decision.

“Jessie is an adult, and we felt we could tackle this in a way that still feels appropriate for our audience… Our audience isn’t dealing with somebody proposing to them, but they are dealing with choices they have to make in their life, and thinking things through, following their heart and wanting to make the right choice,” Bonnett defended.

When asked of her own opinion on Jessie’s marriage, Debby Ryan made sure to reiterate what the importance of the occasion is really all about: “It’s not about the dress, it’s not about the wedding. It’s about the marriage. That’s something we lose sight of when we’re so young and all we want to do is dress up and play fairy tale.”

While the Disney Channel executives and actress Debby Ryan may believe that the wedding of the lead character is the right move to make for the show, their actions seem to display a sense of hypocrisy. With the Disney Channel’s admitted demographic being children ages six to eleven and Ryan herself believing that children often lose sight of the main message of life events when they are young, it seems odd that Disney is making a marriage the focal points of one of its main shows.

Bonnett has suggested that the wedding will come with a surprise ending, though, perhaps hinting toward a mature decision to delay the marriage at the end? Tune in this fall to find out.

  • Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie at Coachella 2014

Hilary Duff and her estranged husband Mike Comrie were spotted together at Coachella 2014 on Friday.

The couple, who married in 2010 and have a two-year-old son together, announced their separation in January.

Despite their appearance at the annual Indio, CA music festival on Friday, a source says Duff and Comrie are not reconciling:

“They are still separated but very good friends … They are at Coachella this weekend, which is sure to fan the flames, but they aren’t a couple. It’s just not true – they remain separated.”

Indeed, it’s not the first time the two have appeared together since announcing their separation.

In February Duff posted a picture of her, Comrie, and their son Luca in the Bahamas with the hashtags #modernfamily and #vacation.

Duff has posted several photos on Twitter giving Comrie photo credit:

The day before being spotted at Coachella, the two were seen shopping together at the Chanel store in Beverly Hills. Similar sightings have occurred in New York City, and at one point, Duff posted a picture of Comrie and Luca hiking that was presumably taken by her.

At the very least, Duff and Comrie appear to be carrying out the vow they made back in January to remain friends and lovingly co-parent their son.

It was recently announced that Duff, who broke onto the Hollywood scene with her starring role in the Disney hit series Lizzie McGuire in 2001, will return to television full-time to star in Younger. TV Land Network has ordered 12 episodes of the show. It will be produced by Darren Star of Sex and the City fame and will costar Sutton Foster, who has won two Tony Awards for her Broadway performances.

Duff recently signed a deal for her fifth music album:

Originally from Canada, Comrie retired from professional hockey in 2012 at the age of 31 after undergoing his third hip surgery in five years. He had played 10 seasons in the National Hockey League.

  • “Girl Meets World” Unveils Teaser Trailer [Video]

The moment that fans of Boy Meets World have been waiting for is finally here. The first teaser trailer featuring video footage of the spin-off Girl Meets World has been revealed, and features Cory and Topanga all grown up, and having to deal with their own kids.

The trailer for Girl Meets World shows Riley Matthews attempting to sneak out of her bedroom window along with her best friend Maya, only to be stopped by a grown-up Cory.

Girl Meets World will of course be returning Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel as Cory and Topanga, who have been married and have had two kids since the series finale of the original show. In addition, Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter will be playing the roles of Riley Matthews and Maya, respectively.

While only a 30-second clip, the teaser at least shows fans a bit of footage of what the characters will be like when the show finally premieres. Boy Meets World ended in 2000, and with a dedicated set of fans, the spin-off has been long overdue, and will debut on the Disney channel.

Due to the immense popularity of the show’s predecessor, the show was given a full-season order before even airing its pilot.

Everyone’s favorite former teacher of Cory and Topanga’s, Mr. Feeny will be returning to the show, in addition to a couple of other familiar faces. William Russ and Betsy Randle who played Cory’s parents in Boy Meets World, in addition to Rider Strong who played Shawn Hunter.

Much like Boy Meets World, which followed Cory’s adventures through life, Girl Meets World will follow Riley’s journey through junior high and beyond, all while trying to figure out her place in life.

Riley is set to have a similar role to Cory when he was younger, and Maya has been described as the wild best friend, sounding a bit like Shawn Hunter. Although it ended 14 years ago, the show still carries a great popularity for children of the 90’s, much like Friends, which has also teased about reunions over the years.

While the show will be on the Disney channel, and clearly aimed at the pre-teen to teen audiences, it is likely to attract many people that are now in their 20’s and 30’s that are still in love with he characters of Cory and Topanga as well.

Girl Meets World still has not been given a premiere date yet, but that should hopefully be available for fans soon. It will debut on the Disney channel sometime this summer, and it is likely to generate a widespread audience.

  • 5-Year Old Disney Actress Gets Death Threats

Last month, when the Disney Channel aired an episode of “Good Luck Charlie” featuring a same-sex couple, One Million Moms started a petition urging parents to email one of the show’s sponsors and ask them to pull their ads from the show. Now, the mother of the 5-year old actress who plays Charlie has come forward with Instagram comments aimed at the little girl, urging her to “kill herself”.

Mia Talerico’s mother says she discovered the threats and immediately got the police involved; an investigation is ongoing. One message reads, “Die Mia, F**king Die in hell! Kill yourself, you deserve to die”. Another shows a photo of Mia with a bloody fist covering her head and is captioned with another threat.

Whether the threats were made in connection to the show’s decision to include a same-sex couple in a recent episode is unclear, but authorities say they are taking the situation very seriously. The Disney Channel has not released a statement as yet.

Disney announced their plans to bring on the couple–two moms of a little girl who comes over for a playdate with Charlie–back in June, and though there were mixed reactions, many thought the episode was a ground-breaking step for the kids’ channel. One Million Moms, however, took issue with the episode even though the show is in its last season and announced their campaign to pull advertising.

“An upcoming episode in this last season of “Good Luck Charlie” will feature a family with two moms, a first for Disney Channel. Because “Good Luck Charlie” is coming to a close, the characters are only expected to appear in one episode. However, one episode is enough, especially since the network repeatedly airs reruns of all its programs,” the statement on the site reads. “One Million Moms launched an email campaign in 2013 that urged Disney officials to abandon their plans to corrupt the children’s network with LGBT content. However, Disney officials have not responded to the thousands of emails protesting their plans. Disney has decided to be politically correct instead of providing family-friendly programming. Disney should stick to entertaining, not pushing an agenda. Conservative families need to urge Disney to avoid controversial topics that children are far too young to comprehend. This is the last place a parent would expect their children to be confronted with topics that are too difficult for them to understand. Mature issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, and it is extremely unnecessary.”

  • Selena Gomez: Not Only Disney Star to Visit Rehab

It was just announced that Selena Gomez secretly went to rehab for two weeks in January.

Gomez was admitted to Arizona’s Dawn at the Meadows on Jan. 5. Gomez’s rep has made it very clear that the former Disney Channel star was not attending rehab in relation to any struggle with drugs or alcohol.

Instead, the multi-talented star was admitted for what seems to be emotional issues where she, “voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse.”

It seems there may be a pattern with Disney Channel stars and even young professionals that have made their mark earlier in their careers than other celebrities.

Friend, fellow-musician and ex-Disney Channel bud, Demi Lovato has lived a life of addiction. The 21-year-old spent time recovering in a sober house as well as received treatment for her issues with bulimia and self-inflicted injuries.

“I couldn’t go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine,” Lovato said in an interview.

Another Disney Channel star who isn’t shy about drug use is Miley Cyrus. While the “Can’t Stop” singer hasn’t visited rehab, she certainly isn’t the Miley we knew from Hannah Montana.

Recently, the 21-year-old took to Twitter mentioning weed.

She did however tweet about her two-month tobacco-free experience.

Perhaps the Bangerz babe is turning over a new leaf? Either way, we hope the best for these young Disney ladies. Showbiz isn’t for everyone, yet we do hope they find solace in this new year.

  • Disney Show Angers One Million Moms With Gay Couple

Disney Show Angers One Million Moms With Gay Couple

The Disney Channel sitcom “Good Luck Charlie” featured the network’s first gay couple on Sunday night, and now the organization One Million Moms has created a petition urging concerned parents to email one of the show’s sponsors to ask them to pull their ads.

Disney announced their plans to include a same-sex couple in their programming back in June and said they were very careful about the way the characters were introduced. The female characters will only appear in that one episode, and were brought in as the parents of a child who comes over for a playdate with Charlie.

“This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors,” a Disney Channel spokesperson said. “Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.”

According to One Million Moms, however, the topic is too controversial to be included in a show aimed at young people and is asking supporters to email Care.com asking the company to threaten to pull their funding if Disney continues to “push the LGBT agenda”.

“An upcoming episode in this last season of “Good Luck Charlie” will feature a family with two moms, a first for Disney Channel. Because “Good Luck Charlie” is coming to a close, the characters are only expected to appear in one episode. However, one episode is enough, especially since the network repeatedly airs reruns of all its programs,” the site reads.

The move has earned praise from many, however, who took to Twitter to discuss the episode.

  • “Girl Meets World” Picked Up For Full Season

A lot of folks who loved the 90s sitcom “Boy Meets World,” were probably skipping down the street this week, because according to one of the show’s former stars, Danielle Fishel, “Girl Meets World” has just been picked up for an entire season.

“Got the great news tonight that #GirlMeetsWorld was picked up for 8 more episodes, a total of 21,” she wrote. “Can’t wait for everyone to see them all.”

“Girl Meets World” will air on the Disney Channel and will follow the character of Riley Matthews, who’s the daughter of the “Boy Meets World” couple Cory and Topanga. Apparently, the couple stayed in New York–since that’s where they moved to in the final episode of the 90s show–and they’ll be guiding their daughter through the usual kinds of social challenges that many preteens face.

Since word got out in 2012 that “Girl Meets World” was being made, the buzz was loud and strong, which is probably why Disney decided to order a full season before the pilot episode even aired.

Ben Savage–who plays Cory on the show–also sent out a tweet and said he’s looking forward to playing Cory Matthews once again. “We’ve been picked up for 8 more episodes,” he wrote. “It’s a joy revisiting these characters and meeting the world as a dad.” He then sent out an Instagram photo of a sign that looks like it’s directing people to where the show is being taped.

If you think about it, “Girl Meets World” has a very high chance of being successful and running for many seasons. For one, a lot of parents who were fond of the show in the 90s will be eager to introduce the characters to their children, and two, it’s likely that many kids will just stumble on it, since they’re probably watching the Disney Channel anyway.

It’ll be interesting to see just how the writers update the show to fit modern times, and if the Riley character will face the same kind of jams as Cory did in his younger days.

  • Demi Lovato Opens Up About Her Dark Struggles

Demi Lovato is the newest celebrity to open up about her struggles as a child actress.

Lovato became famous during her role starring on the Disney Channel’s, “Sonny With a Chance”. She also appeared alongside the Jonas Brothers on other Disney Channel movies, “Camp Rock” and “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,”. It was then that she realized that she had a problem and checked into a rehabilitation facility.

In October 2010, Lovato ended her time on tour with the Jonas Brothers and entered rehab for the physical and emotional issues that she had been dealing with. Lovato says she used to not consider herself a role model, and that is why her life started spinning out of control.

“I used to say that too,” she admitted during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “That was my excuse to do whatever the f*** I wanted and not give a s*** about what other people thought. Then I ended up going through some stuff. I realized I’m never going to escape the fact that I’m in the public eye, so I might as well do the best I can.”

Lovato is definitely not the first Disney star to fall off the path, however she is the first to do so while still filming for the network.

“When I went to rehab, I was still on the Disney Channel – I think I might be the first person who can say that! It wasn’t like I could discreetly make the choice to go into treatment,” she said. “My actions were very public. My manager told me, “You can decide not to talk about anything, or you can be completely honest.” Now, at night, I can rest on my pillow easy because there’s nothing I’m hiding.

Despite having to enter a facility for treatment, Lovato says that she has more fans supporting her now than ever before.

“When I was in treatment, I honestly thought my career was over,” she said. “But when I came out of treatment, I had more supportive fans than ever. There are lots of artists who aren’t honest – they put on a face. Nobody can relate to that face.” She adds, “Growing up, I needed someone in the public eye to look up to. At the time, it was starlets clubbing and getting really, really thin. That’s what I thought was cool and glamorous. But now I want to inspire that young girl who thinks she’s overweight, or too thin, or not pretty enough.”

The “X Factor” judge has also wrote a book documenting her struggles titled, “Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year”, that is scheduled for release on November 19. When writing the book, Lovato says she was conflicted on whether to be completely honest about her darkest times. She says fans will be shocked at how bad things really were at one point. She hopes her story will help other people, who have been led astray, get back on the right path.

“I’m battling with internal thoughts on how honest I should be,” she said. “Yes, I’ve been very honest, but if people really knew how dark and deep my struggles got — not just with my eating disorder but with drugs and alcohol — they’d be really shocked. But I’ll most likely end up saying everything. Maybe it’ll help other people in the industry who are headed down the wrong path.”
