  • Bethesda, 2K Team Up To Offer Bundles Of Their Best-Selling Games

Over the last few years, 2K Games and Bethesda have become two of the biggest publishers in gaming with hits like BioShock Infinite and Borderlands 2. Now the two publishers are combining their power to offer bundles that feature their best selling games for those who never got around to them.

2K Games and Bethesda announced this morning that it will be releasing two bundles on Xbox 360 and PS3 today. The first includes Borderlands 2 and Dishonored while the second features Skyrim and BioShock Infinite. As an added bonus, the PS3 version of the Skyrim and BioShock Infinite bundle also includes the original BioShock.

Both publishers are quick to point out that these four games are often cited as being games of a generation. In other words, they feel that these are the games people will look back on as the crowing achievement in game design on the Xbox 360 and PS3. It also probably means that you’ve already played them.

“When you think of the best games of the modern era, you think of Skyrim, BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, and Dishonored,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Combined, these four instant classics have sold tens of millions of copies worldwide, and have been recognized by hundreds of critics as the best in the industry, and now 2K and Bethesda Softworks are offering these games at an incredible value.”

If you’ve not yet had the chance to play these games, 2K and Bethesda really hope you do. It would seem the focus of this joint endeavor is to gain new fans while wringing out the last bit of value found in these titles.

“Not only have these games been critical successes, but they have also won the hearts of gamers everywhere,” added Vlatko Andonov, President, Bethesda Softworks. “Each of these games has an extraordinarily passionate fan base and we look forward to seeing those grow even larger as more people get to explore these fully-realized worlds.”

Both bundles are available today on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for $30 each. The bundles include only the base game so you’ll have to buy all the DLC that’s been released for all four titles.

  • ‘Dishonored: Game of the Year Edition’ Out Tomorrow, Teaser Video Released

One month ago, Bethesda announced Dishonored: Game of the Year Edition, a new version of last year’s Dishonored. The game was a critical success and a moderate hit, providing gameplay similar to that of Deus Ex and a twisted art style that matched its story of betrayal and revenge. More importantly, the game provided Bethesda with a new world and IP to explore with the help of development studio Arkane.

Tomorrow the new edition of the game will launch for $40. The Game of the Year Edition comes packaged with all of the DLC released for the game this year, including the Dunwall City Trials challenge pack and the two episodes of a story expansion titled The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches. The story expansions allow players to step into the shoes of Dishonored antagonist Daud with new powers to use for creative assassinations.

The launch trailer for the new edition give a short preview of both the main story and DLC for Dishonored. It really does highlight just how simple the high concept for the game really is:

  • ‘Dishonored: Game of the Year Edition’ Announced

Bethesda has, in recent years, been the king of collector’s edition games. This year so far the publisher has released a “Legendary Edition” of Skyrim, as well as a massive Elder Scrolls Anthology collection. Today, Bethesda has announced yet another collector’s edition, this one for Dishonored.

Dishonored: Game of the Year Edition comes with a copy of Dishonored (of course) for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or PC. It also comes with all of the DLC released in the year since Dishonored‘s debut. The DLC includes the pre-order add-on pack branded the “Void Walker’s Arsenal,” a challenge map pack called “Dunwall City Trials,” and the two episodes of the campaign expansion that saw players stepping into the shoes of antagonist Daud: The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches. According to the game box, the collection also comes with a double-sided poster.

The new edition will cost $40 (39.99€/£29.99) on every platform and will be released on October 8. Dishonored last year brought back a style of stealth combat that had only been preserved in the Deus Ex series. It also impressed critics and players with an intriguing art style and an interesting new steam-punk world with a fleshed-out lore. The Game of the Year Edition could certainly prove popular among fans of the genre who missed out last year.

  • Final Dishonored DLC Out Today, With Trailer

Last fall, Bethesda published a new game titled Dishonored, from French developer Arkane Studios. The well-reviewed game brought the stealth/action gameplay that had been missing since Deus Ex: Human Revolution, along with an interesting new world and lore for gamers to explore and play around with.

Though the game’s first DLC was little more than a pack of challenge maps with leaderboards, the second DLC expanded upon the story of Dishonored. Titled The Knife of Dunwall, the content allowed players to take on the role of antagonist Daud to experience the city of Dunwall from a new perspective.

Today, the third and final DLC for Dishonored was released. Titled The Brigmore Witches, the contend wraps up the story begun in The Knife of Dunwall. Players will once again fill the shoes of Daud as he disrupts the Brigmore Witch coven and makes his way to the fate that awaits him in Dishonored proper. A launch trailer for The Brigmore Witches previews a bit of the story, as well as some of the new powers and locations players will see in the game:

The Brigmore Witches is available now on Xbox 360 for 800 Microsoft Points. It will be available later today for $10 on Steam and the PlayStation 3.

  • Game Mod Brings Dishonored Abilities To Skyrim

The alter, change, or build upon PC game code to add features, content, and/or, desired improvements is, of course, known as modding. Thanks to the largely unpaid efforts of these “amateur” programmers, many a game has been given new life, courtesy of the fan-created content that pops up. While those who limit their gaming to the console environment miss out video game modding, the PC gaming community embraces it quite vigorously. So much so that Steam features a Workshop area for games that allow modding that feature the necessary files to alter your game experience.

One game that has an incredibly active community is Bethesda’s Skyrim. To put it mildly, there are mods for just about everything in open-world RPG. If you want to add a realism mod that requires your character to relieve their bladder, among other things, you can do that. If you want to add lightsabers to the vast armory that’s already available to players, you can do that too. Do you want your games to have a more, um, adult theme, complete with character nudity? Skyrim Nexus has just what you need; although, apparently the site is undergoing some DoS trouble.

There is a new mod, however, that is making news because it brings the powers of Dishonored, another Bethesda title, to the world of Skyrim. If you haven’t had a chance to play Dishonored, needless to say the main character’s powers are certainly a highlight, especially the “Blink” function. The idea of making this particular skill set to available to Skyrim characters at least looks like a brilliant idea:

If you’re interested in learning another skill to vanquish your enemies throughout Tamriel, Skyrim Nexus again has the goods. Just be patient with the site as it deals with DoS griefers.

  • Dishonored’s Final DLC is Coming August 13

Late last year, Arkane Studios and Bethesda released the first DLC for the well-received stealth/action game Dishonored. Titled Dunwall City Trials, the game challenged players with tailored skill runs, but disappointed some fans who missed the unique story and world-building seen in the game proper.

In April, those fans got exactly what they asked for. The Knife of Dunwall provided Dishonored fans with a new protagonist, new powers, new areas of the city of Dunwall, and a new story to experience.

Today, Bethesda has announced the final DLC for Dishonored, The Brigmore Witches. The DLC will be available on August 13 for $10, 800 Microsoft Points, or the appropriate equivalent. Players who bought The Knife of Dunwall will be able to carry over their save into the new content, including upgrades, powers, and weapons.

The content will continue the story of Daud, the main character from The Knife of Dunwall. From Bethesda’s blog announcement [Warning: contains spoilers for both The Knife of Dunwall and Dishonored]:

In The Brigmore Witches, continue your journey as the legendary assassin, Daud, and bring his twisted narrative that began with The Knife of Dunwall to a close. After discovering the identity and intentions of Delilah, the leader of the Brigmore Witch coven, you set out to disrupt her from completing a powerful ritual that will spell your doom. Having already been betrayed by your lieutenant, Billie Lurk, you must rely on feuding gang factions—the Dead Eels and the Hatters—to negotiate your way through previously unseen districts of Dunwall en route to Delilah’s stronghold. Regardless of the way you reach your destination, one thing is for certain – you will finally answer for your treacherous actions and fall before the mercy, or punishment, of the Royal Bodyguard and Assassin, Corvo Attano.

  • Check Out This Gameplay Trailer For Dishonored: The Knife Of Dunwall

In early March, Bethesda announced the first piece of story-based DLC for DishonoredThe Knife of Dunwall. The expansion would put players in the shoes of Daud – one of the antagonists from the original game.

Much like Corvo, Daud is an assassin. He has a few different tricks up his sleeve though, and this gameplay trailer should give players a good idea of what to expect from the assassin that killed an empress:

The Knife of Dunwall will be available on April 16 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

  • Dishonored Continues Its Story With The Knife Of Dunwall In April

Dishonored was one of the best experiences of 2012. In fact, the only real complaint one could levy against the title was that it was too short. The developers at Arkane Studios are remedying that this year with the release of the title’s first story based DLC – The Knife of Dunwall.

The Knife of Dunwall has players take on the role of Daud, the assassin responsible for the death of the Empress. New powers, areas to explore and story elements will be revealed as players make their way through the new content:

New Powers, Weapons and Gadgets – The mark of the Outsider empowers you with unique supernatural abilities. Call upon the Whalers to assist in combat with ‘Summon Assassin’, track down hidden Runes and Bone Charms with ‘Void Gaze’ and learn to use new variations to powers, including ‘Blink’. To aid in your dangerous exploits your customized arsenal of weapons and gadgets will include Chokedust to daze your enemies, whale oil powered Stun Mines to shock your targets, and a concealed Wristbow to launch sleep darts and explosive bolts.

Explore More of Dunwall –Make your way through the Legal District and infiltrate the Rothwild Slaughterhouse, a steaming factory filled with colossal whale carcasses and their hulking butchers. Revisit the decaying Flooded District, the location of Daud’s hidden base, first seen in the original game. Return to the scenes of key events in Dishonored with a new perspective, including the fateful moment that sets off Corvo’s journey.

Choose Your Path – On your search for answers, approach each mission with your own style. Your redemption – or your turn towards darkness – depends on your skills and the decisions you make. Discover the mystery behind Delilah in this stand-alone chapter, and then conclude Daud’s story in the upcoming final add-on, The Brigmore Witches.

The Knife of Dunwall will be available on April 16 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC via Steam for $10. The first piece of DLC for Dishonored – Dunwall City Trials – has been available since December.

  • Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials Trailer Released

One of the few complaints about Dishonored was that the game was too short, especially for those players who took a more straightforward approach to accomplishing each mission’s goals. Another was that the game was too easy once Corvo gained access to a few of his supernatural powers.

Bethesda is attempting to fix that with a downloadable content (DLC) pack full of challenges. Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials will feature 10 new challenge maps that will test players’ combat, stealth, and mobility skills. Mention of “waves” of tallboys, guards, weepers, and thugs was made, and a competency with the blink skill will almost certainly be required. The content also includes new achievements and online leaderboards.

A new trailer for the DLC was released today. It looks very similar to the Dishonored content already released, except not hemmed in with the locations, story, and setting of the Dishonored campaign. Dunwall City Trials will be released next week, on December 11.

  • Dishonored DLC “Dunwall City Trials” Announced

Bethesda today announced Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials, the first DLC for its well-reviewed supernatural stealth assassin adventure game Dishonored.

Dunwall City Trials will be released sometime in December and will feature 10 challenge maps that, according to Bethesda, will test players’ combat, stealth, and mobility skills. The maps will include “a gravity-defying run of drop assassinations” and an arena in which players will battle waves of enemies. The DLC will also feature new achievements/trophies and a global leaderboard for players to compare their skills.

Dunwall City Trials will cost 400 Microsoft Points via Xbox LIVE or $5 via PlayStation Network and PC.

Bethesda also today stated that the second and third DLC for Dishonored will be coming next year. Those add-ons will feature story-driven campaigns rather than challenge maps. The second DLC story will focus on Daud, allowing players to experience new locations in Dunwall. Bethesda implied that players will actually take on the role of Daud, who will have a different set of powers, weapons, and gadgets than Corvo.

This is exciting news for players who loved the stealth action of Dishonored, but found the length of the title lacking. A set of challenge maps should provide some more replay value and get the player community using their assassin skills in creative ways.

  • Player Gets Creative With Dishonored Assassinations [VIDEO]

The reviews for Dishonored were overwhelming great. The game was lauded for its stealth gameplay, level design, and imaginative art direction. The phrase “game of the year” popped up more than once.

The one negative aspect of Dishonored that took hold and spread through the gaming community was that the game was disappointingly short. A (false) rumor held that someone had beaten the game in four hours while streaming the gameplay. Double that time might not be out of the question, though.

Someone speeding through Dishonored, killing everyone in their path could easily beat the game in under 10 hours. That doesn’t mean the game is short. Much like Skyrim, the game offers up a world and allows players to either rampage through it or take the time to get to know the setting.

Over on YouTube, user ThePhotoshop has created one of what will soon be a multitude of Dishonored videos showing the many creative ways to assassinate the game’s targets. Though ThePhotoshop gets fairly creative with the game’s magic system and objects, this certainly isn’t every single way to eliminate a given target. It is extremely funny, though – especially the one that requires collecting several canisters of whale oil to gently lay a trap while guards and partygoers look on.

The video might contain spoilers concerning the setting of a mission, but there are no story spoilers, so check out the many assassinations of Lady Boyle:

  • Dishonored Launch Trailer Highlights Outstanding Reviews

Dishonored, the dystopian, steampunkish magical-assassin game was released today, and already comparisons to the Thief and Deus Ex series’, as well as “game of the year” talk are being thrown around earnest.

To accompany the game’s launch, Bethesda has released one final trailer for the game, highlighting quotes from some of the outstanding reviews the game has been getting. It also shows many of the powers players can acquire during their playthrough and just how those powers can unleash destruction on unsuspecting guards and enemies.

What the trailer doesn’t show very well is that the game itself is very much stealth-based. Sure, players can rampage through the game, sliding their dagger into necks and calling on swarms of rats to devour guards, but the levels are designed for a more subtle, exploratory approach. For a look at how each of these styles of play will differ, check out the interactive trailer released by Bethesda last week, or the E3 walkthroughs that highlight both play styles.

  • New Dishonored Trailer Lets Viewers Choose the Outcome

Last week, 2K Games released an interactive trailer for XCOM: Enemy Unknown that allowed players to choose branching options and see the results. It’s not exactly a game demo, but it is the next best thing, and it vividly depicted how different play styles will affect that games’ turn-based combat.

Today, Bethesda has released an interactive trailer for Dishonored, its upcoming first-person supernatural assassin game set in a steampunk dystopia. The trailer, much like the XCOM one, allows players to choose how the gameplay video progresses at certain junctions. In the case of the first choice, players have the options to attack a couple of guards, sneak around them, or “blink” past them – sort of like teleporting. From there the choices and pathways branch out widely, and some can even lead to death.

The gameplay is from one of the early missions in the game, so expect a few minor spoilers from the video, seen below. If, however, you want even more background on Dishonored, check out the mini-web series called Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall, which hints at why the city players will find themselves in is in such disarray.

There is now less than one week until Dishonored hits store shelves on October 9th.

  • Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall Part 3 Released

Bethesda today released the final episode of its short web series Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall. The episode, titled “In the Mind of Madness,” depicts the city of Dunwall as on the verge of collapse.

In the previous installments of the series, we’ve seen the rise and fall of Dunwall along with Esmund Rosenburrow, and seen a boy confront the authoritarian bullies of Dunwall while learning the danger that comes along with mysterious powers.

Today, gamers get a story that leads right up to the beginning of Dishonored. The story follows Piero, who’s dreams are disquieting and all-too-real. Obsessed with the assassination of the empress and spreading plague, he creates a mask. Those who have been following news about Dishonored will recognize the mask as the same one players will don as they take on the role of a supernatural assassin in Dishonored.

The web shorts were created by the Psyop production company and are narrated by Chloe Moretz of Kick Ass ans Let Me In fame.

Dishonored will be released in the U.S. on October 9th. That means there are less than two weeks left until we all find out if it’s as amazing as it looks.

  • Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall Episode 2 Released

Yesterday saw the premiere of a new three-part web series called Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall. The short animated features are narrated by Chloe Moretz (Kick Ass, Let Me In) and provide some background for Bethesda and Arkane Studios’ upcoming Dishonored. The shorts have been animated by hand by the Psyop production company and layered with 3D elements.

Rather than make us wait weeks between new episodes, Bethesda has mercifully released the second episode of the series today.

The new tale follows a young boy in the time after Esmund Rosenburrow’s folly, when Dunwall has already began its decline into authoritarian barbarism. He is picked on by adults and peers alike. His only friend is a rat. When the boy is granted extraordinary powers from an “outsider,” he learns what it means not to live in fear.

Dishonored will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in the U.S. on October 9th.

  • Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall Premieres

Following the marketing trend of creating a web series that leads into the launch of a videogame, Bethesda today released the first in a three-part web series for the upcoming Dishonored.

Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall is a series of animated prequels that tell a few of the stories that have shaped the Dunwall players will see in the game. Bethesda claims the episodes are primarily produced by hand, though enhanced with 3D elements “to add a painterly atmosphere, dimension, and depth to each shot. The stories are narrated by Chloe Moretz of Kick Ass and Let Me In fame.

The first tale in the series, seen below, follows the story of Esmund Roseburrow, a failed inventor who came to Dunwall and transformed it with technology. The video features a look at how Dunwall got its steampunk veneer and a glimpse at a character players are sure to come across during the game…

  • New Dishonored Developer Diary Discusses “End Game”

With the launch of Dishonored less than one month away, Bethesda and Arkane Studios are wrapping up their four-part series of developer documentaries. Where last week’s dev diary video focused on immersing players in the steampunk dystopia that the developers have created created, this week’s video discusses what final tweaks the developers are making to the game now that it is finished.

It’s clear from this video and the others that the creators of Dishonored are in love with their game. They talk about wanting players to feel like a supernatural assassin, to see the consequences of their actions spread throughout the game world. Listening to them, its hard not to share in their excitement. Viktor Antonov, a visual design director on the game, described it as, “A mixture of romantic, mysterious atmosphere, and a lot of violence and adrenelline mixed together.”

Players will soon get a chance to experience Dishonored and decide for themselves whether these developers’ hard work has paid off. The game is set for an October 9th release in North America and an October 12th release throughout Europe.

  • Dishonored Devs Discuss The Importance Of Immersion

Dishonored is already proving to be one to look out for. The trailers thus far have shown a game that’s seeking to reinvent the stealth and first-person action genre all in one fell swoop. The game is also noteworthy for one other reason – the revival of the dev diary.

Last week’s dev diary saw the Dishonored developers discussing the importance of narrative versus player freedom. They believe that they were able to strike a fair balance between the two, but the game’s success in this area will be measured most by its ability to immerse the player in its fiction.

The game’s artist drew upon his experience as an industrial designer to create the world. He said that an industrial designer’s job is to create things that can not exist. His design draws upon that philosophy to create a world that seems ripped straight out a contemporary fantasy novel.

Another point of interest is that the team originally wanted to set the game in 1666 London. The game’s setting has obviously changed since then, but they kept the spirit of Industrial Revolution London in the design. The buildings in the game feature the kind of design that you would see from 19th century London period pieces.

These development diaries first and foremost serve to sell the game to players, but players should look deeper. Hopefully gamers will seen when Dishonored launches on October 9 that the design is an extension of the developers’ voices. Where else are you going to see a property that kicks 17th century London into the 19th century while adding a dose of sci-fi? That’s something that only video games can do and Dishonored looks to do it extremely well.

  • Dishonored Developers Discuss Player Freedom In A Linear Narrative

Arkane Studios’ Dishonored is looking to be one of the best games this year. The first-person stealth-action game combines the best parts of Half-Life 2, Thief and Deus Ex into a single experience. It makes sense as people who worked on all those games are on board to help bring Dishonored to players.

Such a pedigree makes waiting for such a game really hard. The game has already received numerous trailers that detail the gameplay choices players can make. Will you utilize stealth to stay in the shadows or will you kill everything in your path in the name of vengeance? The designers say that such choices were their intention all along when they set out to create Dishonored.

The blending of a linear narrative with choice-based gameplay is a dangerous and tricky slope. It’s refreshing to see a developer acknowledge this challenge without letting it bog down the design. Too many narrative-based games deal in the illusion of choice while forcing you straight ahead to the desired conclusion. Dishonored looks to have a linear narrative, but the real innovation lies in letting the player choose the means to the end.

At this point, it’s hard to see Dishonored being anything other than game of the year material. Unless the potential isn’t realized, it will be at least be nominated. It’s definitely on my radar and should be on yours as well. Arkane needs a hit and this could be their ticket to stardom.

Dishonored launches for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 9.

  • New Dishonored Trailer Shows off the Game’s Stealth System

Bethesda showed off a gameplay trailer for Dishonored at E3 that highlighted two very disparate ways to play the game: stealthy or psycho. Since then, the game’s developers have released a steady stream of trailers and screenshots that reveal details about the game and its setting, the dystopian steampunk city of Dunwall.

Today, Bethesda returned to the concept of how gamers will play the game, showing off specifics of about the way their game engine handles a stealthy playthrough. It details important stealth powers, and and shows how the game’s AI reacts to player movement, hiding, noise, and distractions. Check it out for yourself and see whether you might have the patience to play through Dishonored as a stealthy assassin:

Dishonored is scheduled to hit stores on October 9th in the U.S. and will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

  • New Dishonored Screenshots Show a Decaying Empire

In addition to the gameplay trailers Bethesda has been releasing to show off the various powers gamers will control in Dishonored, there have also been a steady stream of screenshots showing off the game’s setting. The city of Dunwall so far appears to be a dystopian steampunk nightmare, and the latest screenshots don’t disappoint.

The screenshot above (which you can see a larger version of here) depicts what I hope are masked party-goers in front of a gigantic fish on a dining table. I suppose all gamers really need to know about the city of Dunwall can be summed up by that woman’s upside down baby-in-chains hat.

Check out the rest of the screenshots below and prepare for Dishonored to hit stores in less than two months, on October 9th in the U.S.
