Sarah Hyland Debuts Dramatically Darker Hair for “Dirty Dancing” Role

Sarah Hyland has gone over to the dark side. In reality, only her hair has gone dark–much darker than she’s ever worn it.

?Hello from the darker side ?

The Modern Family star debuted her dramatically darker hair in recent days, and it’s a very intriguing change.

Sarah Hyland has long sported ombre blonde tresses, making the difference a big one. She underwent the change for her upcoming Dirty Dancing role.

Nikki Lee of Nine One Zero Salon in L.A. spoke to Teen Vogue about exactly how she darkened Sarah Hyland’s hair.

“We created a beautiful dark truffle color for Sarah,” she said. “We wanted her hair to look almost black when she’s inside, but once she steps outside, to have a rich warmth to it.”

Sarah Hyland debuted her new hair color at the 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday.

What do you think about Sarah Hyland’s darker hair color?

  • Sarah Hyland Joins Cast Of ‘Dirty Dancing,’ ABC Announces TV Remake Of 80s Classic Movie

Sarah Hyland has been selected as one of the supporting cast members of the TV reboot of the 1987 romantic drama film, Dirty Dancing. She is due to play the role of Lisa Houseman, Baby’s pretty and extroverted older sister who longs for her father to give her the same attention he gives Baby.

The three-hour remake by ABC has already cast most of its main characters, including Abigail Breslin who will play the lead role, Baby; Debra Messing as Baby and Lisa’s mom, Marjorie Houseman; and Colt Prattes as the charismatic dance instructor, Johnny – the role famously played by the late Patrick Swayze. That leaves the part of Dr. Houseman as one of the few remaining ones that have yet to be cast.

This is not Hyland’s first stint playing an older sister as she plays one in the hit ABC comedy, Modern Family. The 25-year-old actress plays Haley Dunphy, the independent and quite ditzy eldest child of Phil and Claire Dunphy, and also sister to Alex and Luke. Like Lisa Houseman who is more concerned about her shoe collection than world hunger, Haley Dunphy is also rather superficial with her constant worrying over whether she is popular enough at school.

Sarah Hyland Plays the Sometimes Clueless Haley on ‘Modern Family’

Like the original 1987 film, the Dirty Dancing remake is set in the 1960s and focuses on the story of a young woman named Baby, who goes on vacation with the rest of her affluent family in the Catskills and falls in love with the resort’s working-class dance instructor, Johnny Castle.

Aside from Sarah Hyland, actress and singer Nicole Scherzinger has also been set to star in the reboot.

Over the weekend, Sarah Hyland was seen attending Elton John’s annual Oscars viewing party with her boyfriend, Dominic Sherwood. She looked stunning in a sparkly silver gown with a plunging neckline, which she accessorized with equally sparkly jewels.

Nicole Scherzinger Confirms Her Role As ‘Penny’ In ‘Dirty Dancing’ Remake

Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger confirmed her role in ABC’s Dirty Dancing remake.

The TV-movie remake will revolve around the budding romance between Baby, a rich young woman who goes for a vacation with her family at a resort, and Johnny, a young, good-looking dance instructor. In the film, Penny is Johnny’s original dance partner and a member of the entertainment staff at the Catskills resort where Baby and her affluent family are staying. She got pregnant and had an abortion in the original Dirty Dancing movie, the reason why Baby took her place and danced with Johnny.

Nicole Scherzinger Will Play Johnny’s First Dance Partner in ‘Dirty Dancing’

A second film was made in 2003 entitled Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights starring Diego Luna and Romola Garai.

Scherzinger recently shared the good news via social media on Tuesday. She also posted a selfie showing her working out to keep her body fit for the role with the caption: “#dirtydancing !!! I’m so excited!!! Lol! I’m coming for ya! #imcomingforyou.”

Dancing and acting are nothing new for Scherzinger, who, after going solo, tried her acting skills in several theater and TV projects. In 2014, she played Grizzabella in London’s West End revival of Cats: The Musical. She also had guest roles on How I Met Your Mother and Wizards of Waverly Place. Scherzinger previously won on Dancing with the Stars in 2010.

Dirty Dancing is produced by Lionsgate TV’s Allison Shearmur Productions. Eleanor Bergestein , who wrote the original movie, will serve as an executive producer.

  • Debra Messing To Take Part In ‘Will & Grace’ Reunion, Joins Cast Of ‘Dirty Dancing’ TV Movie

Debra Messing just released great news to Will & Grace fans everywhere. The 47-year-old actress confirmed on Saturday that the cast of the popular 2000s sitcom is indeed reuniting next month for a special tribute show.

The show, which is entitled Must See TV: A Tribute to James Burrows honors esteemed director’s 1,000th episode and is produced by Sean Hayes, who played the fabulous Jack McFarland on Will & Grace.

Burrows directed many episodes of the show during its eight-season run as well as other well-known TV sitcoms including Friends, Cheers, Mike & Molly, and The Big Bang Theory among others.

Will & Grace gained recognition when it aired in the late ‘90s and early 2000s for its straightforward but humorous portrayal of gay issues. Eric McCormack played the role of Will, a gay lawyer who lives with his straight best friend Grace, played by Debra Messing. Megan Mullally played Grace’s rich and condescending assistant Karen Walker.

Hayes called the tribute “the reunion of all reunion shows” when he made the official announcement during a Television Critics Association press tour.

Another highly-anticipated reunion is that of the hit show Friends, although not all cast members have confirmed attendance. After reports that Matthew Perry wasn’t going to make it to the special, TVLine officially confirmed that he will be there via taped greeting.

She made the announcement about her role in Dirty Dancing on Thursday via Twitter.

According to Variety, Debra Messing will play the role of a 1960s housewife named Marjorie Houseman who is trying to “rekindle her romance with her workaholic husband.”

  • Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama Enjoy PDA on St. Bart’s Vacation

Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama were spotted enjoying some vacation time in St. Bart’s, and the PDA appeared hot and heavy. The “Confident” singer and the former That 70s Show star were in the water engaging in a make-out session while the paparazzi’s cameras clicked away.

Having a blast in the tropical waters, Demi Lovato even re-enacted the iconic Dirty Dancing scene where Jennifer Grey leapt into Patrick Swayze’s arms. And yes, Wilmer Valderrama made the perfect catch.

The “Cool for the Summer” singer was beyond sexy in a black one-piece swimsuit with a deep–very deep–plunging V that reached her navel.

Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama have dated since back in 2010. Fans are anxiously awaiting a marriage proposal.

Even though this getaway appeared quite romantic, Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama weren’t alone for at least part of their vacation. They couple was seen posing for pictures with some Victoria’s Secret models, as well as with the Jonas Brothers.

    “?❤️? #somethingbigiscoming16 #CONFIDENT,” Demi captioned the Victoria’s Secret shot.

  • Bindi Irwin, Derek Hough Recreate Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze’s Iconic “Dirty Dancing” Performance on “DWTS”

Bindi Irwin channeled her inner Jennifer Grey this week as she and Dancing With the Stars pro partner Derek Hough recreated the iconic Dirty Dancing dance routine Grey and the late Patrick Swayze became so famous for.

Dancing to the song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough scored a perfect 40 out of 40 possible points.

Olivia Newton-John served as guest judge on Dancing With the Stars this week, and was thrilled with Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough’s performance

“It touched my heart,” she said.

Bindi Irwin was thrilled with the success with which she and Derek Hough executed their dance moves.

“It was amazing,” she said. “Going out there, I was so, so terrified, just because it was so different from anything that we’ve done yet in this competition so I was scared but Derek was so strong and we managed to get that lift. I’m thrilled.”

Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough got so involved in recreating their Dirty Dancing dance that they went one step further. The two even recreated the iconic water lift scene Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze did in the film.

If you missed Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough on Dancing With the Stars this week, you missed a stellar, heartwarming performance. Jennifer Grey was on hand during rehearsals, and admitted that Bindi and Derek were likely to ace their dance moves.

Bindi Irwin is favored to win this season of DWTS, and it certainly seems she’s well on her way to making these predictions come true.

  • Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart: Lip Sync Battle

Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell, and Kevin Hart teamed up on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon this weekend in the second best battle after Sunday’s Super Bowl. The three competed with one another in a long-awaited lip synch battle. Fallon has touted the match on his show for weeks, and on Sunday night fans were treated to this epic competition. Now lip synching might not seem like a big deal–especially to those who have never attempted it. But more than simply mouthing the words, top notch lip synchers incorporate emotion and some impressive body moves, too.

Will Ferrell grabbed the fake mic and delivered what can only be called a writhing rendition of Beyonce’s hit “Drunk in Love.” He also belted out Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go.” Ferrell had some pretty stiff competition in the form of Kevin Hart, however, who bought tears to his everyone’s eyes as he movingly lip synched John Legend’s hit ballad, “All of Me.” He paid homage to the Super Bowl half time performer by doing Katy Perry’s “Roar,” too.

Jimmy Fallon may have actually cheated a bit. In addition to lip synching the “Dirty Dancing” theme song, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” he brought a secret guest on stage to lip synch with him. Fallon had Drew Barrymore waiting in the wings to assist him in the competition. Fallon also performed Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.”

    So who won the competition?

According to popular belief, Will Ferrell won for “Drunk in Love.”

Did you check out Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell, and Kevin Hart duking it out in their lip synch battle? Jimmy Fallon loves to lip synch. Fans are likely looking forward to the next time he issues a challenge to do so on The Tonight Show.

That wasn’t all Jimmy Fallon did for musical fun on Sunday night’s show either. He and Carrie Underwood, Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, Blake Shelton, Usher, Meghan Trainor, One Direction, Christina Aguilera and, of course, his house band The Roots, joined together to perform a rendition of Queen’s “We Are the Champions” to congratulation Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots.

That will be a hard show to follow. Jimmy Fallon and his cast and crew will do The Tonight Show live from L.A. from Monday through Friday of this week.

  • Kristen Wiig and Harry Styles: Dirty Dancing?

Kristen Wiig and Harry Styles reportedly treated guests who attended the Saturday Night Live after party this past weekend to a dance extravaganza. The two most notably kicked up their heels to the Dirty Dancing theme song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.” UPI reports that the pair even danced on a table.

Wiig played Styles–who is one-fifth of the popular British boy band One Direction–while she was a guest on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon earlier in 2014. Harry Styles is clearly a forgiving young man, because Kristen Wiig made it quite clear during her guest stint that she had little to no knowledge about the heart throbs or their music.

Nick Simmons, son of rocker Gene Simmons, captured the SNL dance moves and posted them on Instagram. Even though Kristen Wiig didn’t know much about One Direction, it clearly didn’t prevent her from rocking out with Harry Styles.

A video posted by Nick Simmons (@nickseesthings) on

Nick captioned the clip, “So the kid from @onedirection and Kristen Wiig got on a table and danced tonight at the SNL after party. So that’s a thing.”

That was certainly a thing, but no one would expect any less from Kristen Wiig. Prior to the after party she upstaged Amy Adams during her monologue, while she was hosting SNL.

Don’t you just love how Kristen Wiig is the life of the party–no matter where she turns up?

  • Richard Marx and Cynthia Rhodes Split After 25 Years

    This is a bummer.

Singer Richard Marx confirmed his divorce from Cynthia Rhodes — best known for her role of Penny opposite Patrick Swayzy in Dirty Dancing — on Katie, to which Katie Couric gleefully responded, “You’re back on the market!”

    Yeah, awkward.

Trying to recover from her inappropriate response, Couric tried to re-engage the audience, with “Ladies?!”

The audience didn’t respond to Couric’s attempts at getting them excited about the marital status of her guest.

“So, how are you feeling about dating at this point?” Couric asked. “I think they felt bad,” Marx observed, miming the reluctant-sounding clapping.

“No, it’s all brand new to me,” the 50-year-old singer said. “So I’m just having fun.”

The Right Here Waiting singer and Rhodes, 57, married in 1989 and have three sons together, Brandon, 23; Lucas, 21; and Jesse, 20.

Couric remarked to Marx that he went to high school in Chicago with her fiancé, John Molner.

“I never particularly liked him,” said the singer, perhaps getting back at Couric just a little bit for her awkward reaction to his news.

“We weren’t, like, pals, but I think we played on every sports team together. I was just jealous because he was one of the true brainiacs. We would copy John’s papers,” said Marx.

Rhodes gave up her career years ago to focus on their family full-time. She is also known for her role opposite John Travolta in the Saturday Night Fever sequel Staying Alive.

His signature song, Right Here Waiting, was written to Rhodes when they were dating as a love letter while physically separated — he was on tour and she was shooting a movie. The song spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

  • Lisa Niemi, Patrick Swayze’s Widow, is Engaged

Although many of us will never quite recover from the death of Dirty Dancing‘s Patrick Swayze, his widow, Lisa Niemi, has found love again and is engaged.

Niemi, 57, received a ring and a promise on Christmas Eve from fiancé Albert DePrisco, reports People. DePrisco, 58, is a jeweler.

One can only suppose the ring is amazing!

According to People, the engaged couple met through mutual friends at a birthday party for Niemi. They have been dating for a year and a half.

Niemi lost her husband and dance partner, Patrick Swayze, to pancreatic cancer in September 2009.

Here they are dancing at the World Music Awards in 1994:

In 2010, she told People she was open to the idea of remarrying: “I would love companionship love. Absolutely. I hope I’m not one of these women who never want to have another relationship,” she said. “But who knows, that’s another bridge I’ll cross when I come to it. I may get there and go, I don’t know. But I like to think that I can.”

Swayze and Niemi seemed to have been great partners not only on the dance floor, but in life. They were married for 34 years!

Here’s what Swayze had to say about their relationship:

We can only wish Lisa every happiness for the future!

  • “Dirty Dancing” Hotel Fire: Largest In Catskills History

The Catskills condo complex that inspired the setting for the film “Dirty Dancing” went up in flames on Saturday, and even though the movie wasn’t filmed there, it’s sad to see a little bit of Dirty Dancing history lost forever.

Kellerman’s, the resort where Johnny Castle taught Baby Houseman to dance, was based on Brown’s Hotel, which had been standing since 1944. The fire that consumed it this past weekend was deemed the largest in Catskills history and took more than 300 firefighters to combat it; luckily no one was injured, but seven of the nine buildings in the complex were destroyed.

Brown’s was in good company as inspiration, almost as famous as The Stanley Hotel in Colorado, which inspired Stephen King’s book The Shining.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

The following scene from the film shows Baby getting her first glimpse of Johnny (Patrick Swayze) and her first taste of the glamorous world of dancing (well, glamorous to her, anyway).

  • Dirty Dancing Remake Quite Unpopular on Twitter

C’mon, people – at least it will probably end up better than Havana Nights.

Late last night the news broke that Lionsgate studios had given the green light to a remake of the 1987 Patrick Swayze / Jennifer Grey film Dirty Dancing. The film, in some people’s opinion, serves as one of the ultimate romantic tales in cinema. To some, not so much.

But to each his own. It is impossible to deny the popularity and cultural impact of the film. It has the distinction of being one of the most profitable films of all time, grossing $214 million worldwide after costing only $6 million to make. Its mark on pop culture is massive – I mean, how often do you her “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” or “Nobody puts baby in a corner.”

The director for the new project is Kenny Ortega, who served as the choreographer on the original 1987 film. After that he went on to direct Newsies, Hocus Pocus and more recently helmed the High School Musical films.

To Ortega, it’s about discovering the next Swayze –

“The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me…. Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him. I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can’t wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats.”

If Ortega “can’t wait,” it seems that the Twitterverse can. Although not as vitriolic as the hatred behind the Brett Favre comeback idea, this is one of the bigger backlashes I’ve seen in a while –

All chick-flick jokes aside, what do you think about the remake? Could it succeed if the casting goes right? Who would you want to see in the iconic roles? MTV just posted an open letter to Kenny Ortega asking him to cast Ryan Gosling in the Swayze role.

I just hope that Ortega brings some dark realism into the film like Christopher Nolan has done with the Batman reboot.
