  • Shirley Jones: Husband Marty Ingalls Dead at 79

Shirley Jones, the actress known for her role as Shirley Patridge on The Partridge Family, is mourning the loss of her husband Marty Ingalls. Ingalls died on Wednesday at home in L.A., of complications from a prior stroke.

“He often drove me crazy, but there’s not a day I won’t miss him and love him to my core,” Shirley Jones said in a statement to the media.

Marty Ingalls met Shirley Jones in 1974 during a party at the home of the late Michael Landon.

“He pursued her relentlessly, and many in Jones’ inner circle were initially put off by Ingels’ gruff demeanor and brazen approach,” the statement reads. “As he himself said, ‘I was a Jewish kid from Brooklyn and she was Miss America. A lot of people never got that. But Shirley always did.’”

Ingalls and Jones married in 1977. They wrote a book together. Shirley & Marty: An Unlikely Love Story hit bookstore shelves in 1990.

Marty Ingalls appeared on TV shows including The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Phyllis Diller Show, and Bewitched. He voiced the role of Pac-Man in the 1982 animated series. Ingalls also ran a talent agency that booked movie stars–including Cary Grant and John Wayne, in TV commercials.

In addition to The Partridge Family, Shirley Jones starred in the film versions of The Music Man and Carousel, as well as several TV shows and additional movies.

Condolences have no doubt reached Shirley Jones from all around the world on the passing of her husband, Marty Ingalls.

  • Mary Tyler Moore Going Blind, Says Betty White

For years Mary Tyler Moore entertained America on shows such as The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Now the 77 year-old Moore is struggling in her fight against diabetes and, according to friends, is currently in poor health. More has struggled from the effects of diabetes for decades and in 2011 underwent brain surgery to remove a non-cancerous tumor.

Closer Weekly this week published a report on Moore, interviewing several of her famous friends about her health status. Unfortunately, it seems that the actress’ health has deteriorated in recent months, forcing her to stay close to her home and to her husband, cardiologist Robert Levine.

Betty White, who played Sue Ann Nivens in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, said that Moore’s eyesight is fading and is a “big problem.” White stated that Moore is almost to the point of not being able to see at all.

Moore’s longtime TV husband Dick Van Dyke told Closer that he talks to Moore often and that she “hasn’t been too well.” As he phrased it, Moore is “really having a battle with it.”

Valerie Harper, who played Rhoda Morgenstern in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and the series spin-off Rhoda, contends that Moore “stays healthy,” though diabetes “does ravage her body.” Harper herself is suffering from serious health issues, having announced last year that she has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

Moore was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 33, just as she was beginning The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Since that time, Moore has become a spokesperson for diabetes awareness and research. She is currently the international chairman of the JDRF, a charity dedicated to funding diabetes research.

Moore spoke out about her struggle with diabetes in her second memoir, Growing Up Again: Life, Loves, and O Yeah, Diabetes. The book revealed that Moore has been struggling with vision impairment caused by diabetes for years.

  • Dick Van Dyke: Disorder Causes Cancellation

Actor Dick Van Dyke was once known for playing clumsy characters with poor accents, and now the 87-year-old actor may now be facing a challenge greater than chimney sweeping.

Entertainment Tonight is reporting that Van Dyke has cancelled an appearance in New York due to a “yet-to-be diagnosed neurological disorder.” The publication cites a “rep” of Van Dyke’s as stating the actor’s symptoms have prevented him from attending an April 26 award ceremony in New York, and that he has cancelled appearances that call for air travel on the advice of doctors.

Van Dyke was due to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the 92nd Street Y. The actor was awarded a separate Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild in January.

Van Dyke is famous for roles in classic films such as Bye Bye Birdie, Mary Poppins, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He was also the star of The DIck Van Dyke Show during the 60s and Diagnosis: Murder during the 90s. Most recently, Van Dyke has appeared in two Night at the Museum movies.

Just over one year ago, Van Dyke married his 40-year-old girlfriend, Arlene Silver.

  • Dick Van Dyke: Lifetime Achievement Award’s Newest Recipient

Dick Van Dyke was a big part of my childhood; he delighted me as cheerful chimney sweep/sidewalk artist Bert in “Mary Poppins” (and inspired an early love of making art) and made me laugh as Caractacus Potts in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, and I know I’m not the only one. In fact, his body of work is so impressive, the 86-year old will earn the lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild in January.

Of course, Van Dyke’s career hasn’t been limited to film. He starred in two incarnations of “The Dick Van Dyke Show”, as well as made appearances on “The Carol Burnett Show” and just about every ’80s series you can think of (including “The Golden Girls”, which seals him into the title of coolest guy ever in my book). And this isn’t his first lifetime achievement award; he received one in 1994 from the American Comedy Awards. He’s also the proud owner of five Emmys.

So what makes this guy so awesome, you ask? Well, perhaps you had to be there when his career was young to fully appreciate his genius, but those of us who remember him from our childhoods will forever hold him in high esteem. Here are a few of the reasons his career has stood the test of time.

  • Age Difference No Issue For Dick Van Dyke

Age Difference No Issue For Dick Van Dyke

You’re as young as you feel and evidently Dick Van Dyke is feeling less than half his age these days. The legendary comedic actor who is best known for playing in the movies, “Bye Bye Birdie,” and “Mary Poppins” and for his series, “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” celebrated Leap Day this February by getting married. Van Dyke turns 86 this year and his new bride and current Make-Up Artist, Arlene Silver will be 40.

According to Van Dyke, “It was kinda on the spur of the moment, we just decided Leap Day would be the best time to do it.” Van Dyke and Make-Up Artist, Silver met in Los Angeles at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards in 2006. Van Dyke was previously married for 36 years and was divorced in 1984 after a long separation. He lived with Michelle Triola, a long time companion for over 30 years until she died in 2009. Van Dyke has four children.

The couple had their Leap Day Wedding ceremony at a chapel in Malibu near the home of Van Dyke. “Despite their obvious age difference, Dick has never been happier. She brings a lot of light into his life,” Van Dyke’s publicist, Bob Palmer told ABC News. “I’m not a loner. I have to have a life partner. I found the perfect one,” Van Dyke said in an interview about his new bride. “The last couple of years we kind of fell in love and she keeps up with me,” added the Octogenarian groom.

The newly married Make-Up Artist, now mate Sliver got the final word in their interview with RumorFix, “He’s the happiest person I have ever met. He’s got an infectious spirit.”
