  • Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC Might Not Make It To PS3 After All

Skyrim’s first DLC expansion, Dawnguard, was a pretty fun experience. It wasn’t anything mind blowing, but Elder Scrolls fans would get a kick out of it. Dawnguard hit the Xbox 360 first in June and then the PC in early August. The PS3 version has been MIA due to a number of technical issues holding it back. Unfortunately, it looks like it might remain missing from the PS3.

Yesterday evening on the official Elder Scrolls forums, Bethesda updated everyone on the PS3 Dawnguard situation. Here’s the statement in full:

Earlier in the month, we provided an update on Dawnguard’s status for PS3.

It’s been a few weeks, and we wanted to make sure everyone knows where we’re at with Dawnguard. Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you’re talking about sizable content like Dawnguard. We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone. The PS3 is a powerful system, and we’re working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.

We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.

The most important part is the last sentence in the second paragraph. The team outright admits that the DLC may never come to the PS3 due to the technical issues they’ve been running into. There is a glimmer of hope though. They’re working with Sony to get Dawnguard up and running. Hopefully they’ll be able to find a solution.

As for now, PS3 owners are going to have to wait a little longer or get Skyrim on another platform. I wouldn’t be surprised, nor would I blame them, if PS3 owners were to just give up on Bethesda. They haven’t been exactly the most supportive of the PS3 platform and their code always seems to perform poorly. The PS3 is a tricky console to code for, but it always seems like Bethesda has the worst luck when developing for it.

Here’s hoping that Dawnguard does eventually launch on the PS3. The next DLC pack, Hearthfire, was announced for Xbox 360 on Tuesday. It would be a nice gesture if Bethesda were to pack the two into one cheap pack as a way of mending the torn relationship with PS3 players. That’s if they’re able to actually get it running in the first place.

  • Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC Hits Steam, Delayed On PS3

Quakecon 2012 is this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited. All things id will be on display with John Carmack already announcing that Doom 4 is in development. More announcements are to come with id and their owners, Bethesda, both showing off new wares. One such announcement that’s sure to delight Skyrim players was made late yesterday.

Bethesda announced late yesterday afternoon that Dawnguard, the first DLC for Skyrim, was on Steam for all to download. The DLC pack is $20 and promises a whole new faction campaign where you either join forces with vampires or the Dawnguard who seek to eradicate them. I played a bit myself last night and it’s already shaping up to be a strong expansion.

Steam players are already enjoying Dawnguard and putting more time into their 2011 game of the year, but what about PS3 players? Skyrim on PS3 has already been plagued with enough problems so a punctual DLC release would go along to fix the already shaky relationship Bethesda has with PS3 players. Unfortunately, that is not the case as Dawnguard has been delayed for the platform. Here’s what Bethesda had to say:

We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard’s performance on the PS3. We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard, but we aren’t going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people’s experience in Skyrim will be worse. We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We’re as disappointed as our fans when that isn’t the case, but we’ll continue to push for that reality.

Bethesda has traditionally had problems with performance with their games on the PS3. I remember Fallout 3 being an absolute mess even a year after launch on the platform. I can only hope that the delay means that they are actually putting more work into making it passable on the platform. I daresay PS3 players want to avoid a repeat of Fallout 3’s DLC woes.

  • Skyrim: Dawnguard Is Now Available For The Xbox 360

The highly anticipated first batch of DLC from the action RPG is finally out. If you have Skyrim for the Xbox 360, you can now download the expansion pack DLC titled “Dawnguard.” The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is the extremely successful followup to the 2006 hit game Oblivion. The franchise to date has sold tons of copies features vast majestic landscapes and in depth characters and stories. In Skyrim you play as a Dragonborn who can speak to dragons!

In the expansion pack titled “Dawnguard,” the Vampire Lord Harkon has returned to power. By using the Elder Scrolls, he seeks to do the unthinkable – to end the sun itself. Will you join the ancient order of the Dawnguard and stop him? Or will you become a Vampire Lord yourself? Featuring an all new faction questline and locations, the ultimate choice will be yours.

“Dawnguard” has Xbox 360 exclusivity for 30 days and features over 20 hours of new content. After that anyone can grab it for the PS3 or PC. The game cost 1600 Microsoft points and is available now!

Here is the official trailer from Bethesda:

  • Skyrim: Dawnguard DLC Release Date Outed By Twitter

Game publishers increasingly rely on Twitter to let their fans know about the latest games and news that matters. It’s rare to see a major publisher rely on the micro-blogging service use Twitter exclusively to reveal a launch date, but Bethesda just did that.

The publisher announced on Friday exclusively through Twitter that Dawnguard, the new expansion for Skyrim, would be launching on June 26 for Xbox 360. For those who have lost track of their dates, that’s this upcoming Tuesday. Xbox 360-owning fans of Skyrim don’t have much longer to wait to get their vampire slaying or joining on. The expansion will cost 1600 MS points ($20) and contains about 20 hours worth of content.

As you can see, the Tweet also announces that update 1.6 will be hitting the FIGS (French, Italian, German, Spanish) version of Skyrim the week after with Dawnguard hitting FIGS in July. These dates are important as they might have an impact on the wider availability of Dawnguard for PS3 and PC. It remains unseen whether or not PS3 and PC players will have to wait till after the english release or the FIGS release to get Dawnguard. Either way, it seems like the wait will be worth it.

For those new to this whole Dawnguard thing, the expansion will task players with either joining the Dawnguard or the vampires as both factions want to either preserve or destroy the sun respectively. Here’s the official trailer for the expansion which gives us a great look at the new vampires being introduced in Skyrim.

  • Skyrim: Dawnguard Beta Keys Are On The Way To Your Inbox

Some very fortunate Skyrim fans may have already opened their email and found a present last night, but if you’ve yet to find a key in your inbox – there’s still a chance that it might arrive this morning (a very small chance).

That’s because Bethesda has announced that they have deployed the beta keys for the upcoming Skyrim DLC, Dawnguard. Apparently, so many people signed up for the beta at the beginning of the month that they were only able to give out codes to “.005 of the applicants.”

    From the Bethesda Blog:

Lucky fans began receiving emails tonight from “The Elder Scrolls”, and we’ll be done completing the deployment tomorrow. Within the email, users will receive an Xbox LIVE redemption code, as well as details on how to participate in our private feedback forum.

Bethesda announced the public beta on June 1st, and stated that it will be the full version that will eventually go out as DLC (achievements and all). Of course, any kinks will hopefully be worked out by that time. The beta is only available for Xbox 360 owners.

Apparently, this is only the beginning of the private betas, as Bethesda’s production director Ashely Cheng recently told G4 that “any future DLC we do have, there’s going to be a private beta.”

Happy vampire-hunting to the lucky ones.

  • Skyrim Dawnguard DLC E3 Interview Reveals 20 Hours of Content

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was the darling of last year’s E3, wowing the crowds with its dragon shouts and epic battles. At this year’s E3, Bethesda is previewing the first major Skyrim downloadable content (DLC), Dawnguard. Though a trailer for the content has already been released, new gameplay footage of the DLC was shown today, and Todd Howard, the game director and executive producer at Bethesda Softworks, stopped by the GameTrailers studios at E3 to answer questions about the content.

A tired-looking Howard stated that Skyrim‘s popularity “took [Bethesda] by surprise.” He cited this as the reason it has taken so long to see a DLC pack released. He pointed out, though, that plenty of free Skyrim content has been provided by Bethesda.

During the Dawnguard missions, players will be able to join one of either two factions: the vampire lords or the Dawnguard. This choice affects many things, including which of two fortresses a player will be able to “trick out” as Howard said it. Players who chose to side with the Dawnguard will gain access to the new crossbow weapon. Crossbows fire fast, but take a while to reload, and they will utilize players’ archery skill. Turning into a vampire lord, on the other hand, enables an extra skill perk tree, in which players can choose new vampiric powers to level into. Some of the powers include summoning gargoyle, turning into bats, and a “vampiric grip” that can telekinetically levitate objects and people.

The DLC, according to Howard, will provide players with 10 to 20 more hours of Skyrim gameplay. “The content is designed to kind of be level 10 or higher” said Howard. He also stated that Dawnguard is not the only DLC that Bethesda is working on, and that not all future content will be priced at $20. Oh, and he also mentioned that new dragon shouts will be a part of the expansion, including the “soul tear” shout that sucks the souls out of people and turns them into undead minions.

  • Dawnguard Trailer: Skyrim DLC Is On The Way

The unending game that is Skyrim is getting more content soon (making it even more unending-er?), and to officially celebrate the upcoming occasion, Bethesda Studios has released the first trailer for the DLC known as Dawnguard, which leads this post. It’s a cutscene-fest of a trailer that gives us a good glimpse of what’s to come for the superior game.

As you may have noticed, the content is coming to the Xbox environment first, a point of some consternation for a few YouTube commenters. More on that in a moment. From the looks of the footage, it looks a vampires-versus-vampire-hunters story is the central theme, which promises new skillsets, abilities, and weapons. And then there’s the dragon going into the frozen lake, or, as one Reddit member put it:

    DatBunny–HOLY SHIT! SWIMMING ICE DRAGONS

Seeing how it’s coming to the Xbox first, it only makes sense the Dawnguard DLC will not be free of charge. According to the Bethesda blog, it will cost 1600 Microsoft Points, otherwise known as $20. As for the release date, it remains unknown, with “this summer” being the only indicator. As hinted at earlier, the fact that Dawnguard is coming out on Xbox first is a topic of discussion in the YouTube comments, and it quickly became a PC-versus-console discourse. Some examples:

CoD is a bullshit series and the Xbox is a piece of shit.

Not sure what that has to do with anything but it’s a great way to start things off.

    PC > xbox & ps3

    MrRTWVideos

And now we’re playing the feud.

Wow, wasn’t expecting this at all! The “better with Kinect” part was a bit of a turn off, but…I can’t wait to hear more! Hopefully PC and PS3 owners won’t have to wait TOO long.

    ShadowStarz83 9 minutes ago

    Some rationality is offered:

PS3 and PC will get it later…but I agree, it sucks we have to wait.

It’s pretty much what you’d expect. These next comments capture the mood about the fact that more Skyrim content is on the way:

Pants were shat…. all across the land.

    MessedUpProductons

    Well put.

It’s been a while since i commented on a youtube video, but HOLY SHIT!

    CelestialNarwhal

That kind of logic is hard to argue with.

I’m sorry life, summer is going to have to wait.

    nesleequic

Considering how hot it’s getting outside, a summer spent playing around with new Skyrim content in an air conditioned room sounds pretty glorious.

  • Getting Fat In Skyrim Is Easier Than You Think

Getting Fat In Skyrim Is Easier Than You Think

As the upcoming comic strip points out, there are times during Skyrim when you absolutely, positively have to heal–normally, this occurs when you get surrounded by enemies. Unfortunately, it’s these harrowing times when you realize you forgot to stock up on potions, leaving you very few options, save for eating like you were Kobayashi.

But what happens after you eat all that food? In-game, your health bar increases, but let’s see how such gluttony would work in real life:

    Skyrim Last Resort

That’s pretty accurate, especially when you consider the kinds of food the realm of Skyrim offers. Lots of meats and veggies, which can be combined to make delicious stews, are staples on Skyrim’s menu.

In other Skyrim news, if you haven’t seen it yet, over at Bethesda’s blog, they’re teasing the upcoming Skyrim DLC, Dawnguard. Aside from the cool image, there’s not much else to discuss, except the post indicates more information is coming at E3 and that the expansion will be coming to the Xbox 360 this summer. Based on that, one wonders how long it will take to propagate to other platforms.

  • Dawnguard: Skyrim DLC Unveiled, Bethesda Promises More At E3

Earlier, we told you about how Bethesda was teasing some Skyrim DLC information for later today.

Well, this appears to be it. Tweeted out and posted on the Bethesda blog, it looks like we’ll be experiencing Dawnguard sometime this summer on Xbox 360 (the first two Skyrim DLC packages will drop on Xbox 360 first). As you can see, we’ll have to wait until E3 (June 5-7) for more details:

“Dawnguard” was hinted at back in March when Bethesda parent company ZeniMax media filed the trademark.

DLC isn’t the only big thing to come out of the Skyrim realm today. Earlier this morning, an update bringing Kinect support hit Xbox LIVE. Now, players can shout their favorite commands, switch weapons, and cycle through inventory with the power of their voice.

It’s also the 10th anniversary of Morrowind, so it’s already a good day for Elder Scrolls news.

Dawnguard. Coming this summer to Xbox 360. More details at E3. http://t.co/4y6o7vea 3 minutes ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto
