  • David Cassidy on DWI Guilty Plea: ‘Is This an Election Year?’

David Cassidy, star of the 1970s TV show The Partridge Family, appeared in a Schodack, New York courtroom Wednesday to plead guilty to his felony drunk driving case after copping a plea, which reduced the charge to a misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated.

The former teen heartthrob, who lives in Florida, was not too thrilled when the judge decided to put off sentencing until Nov. 5.

“Your honor, I came here today hoping to get this taken care of and over with,” Cassidy told the judge.

Justice Bruce J. Wagner said the law requires Cassidy undergo an alcohol screening prior to sentencing and told Assistant District Attorney Michael Shanley his office should have asked for a presentencing report.

Cassidy’s attorney, Lucas Mihuta, tried to have the sentencing carried out in the one court appearance, but the judge insisted the screening be carried out before he pass down the sentence.

Cassidy’s deal calls for 50 hours of community service, and the installation of an alcohol locking device on any vehicle used by Cassidy for a year.

The 64-year-old singer has already completed an alcohol treatment program, but in November the judge will decide if he needs more, according to TMZ.

“I’m not pleased how this turned out tonight, but at least I’m not going to prison,” Cassidy said following the court appearance. “Is this an election year? I don’t mean any disrespect. I love this part of New York and have been coming here for years to the track. I admit I was driving drunk, but this was my first offense in New York state; I didn’t hurt anyone or crash my car.”

Cassidy was arrested last year after he was stopped by cops in Schodack, New York, with a blood alcohol level at 0.10, over the legal limit of .08.

This is Cassidy’s third DUI conviction. In March, Cassidy pled no contest to a DUI charge in Los Angeles. He also has a prior DUI conviction in Florida.

  • David Cassidy Arrested For DUI In California

David Cassidy was recently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Cassidy was pulled over on Friday by the California Highway Patrol near the Los Angeles International Airport. Cassidy had made an illegal right turn to attract the officers attention. When the officer pulled him over, he smelled a strong scent of alcohol coming from the vehicle.

The officer gave Cassidy a field sobriety test that showed a blood alcohol content of 0.19 percent. That level is more than twice the 0.08 legal limit for driving in California. Cassidy was driving a rental car at the time and was arrested at the scene. There was nobody else in the vehicle with him at the time.

Cassidy was arrested on drunk driving charges in 2013 in New York and also in 2010 in Florida. Cassidy has admitted to having an alcohol problem and recently finished a stint in rehab. He had been trying to stay sober but apparently fell off the wagon. Cassidy was released Saturday morning on $15,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 5.

Cassidy’s manager and publicist said that she had talked to Cassidy before his arrest and he had informed her that he was headed to the airport to return to his home in Florida. She said,

“After attending his and his manager’s depositions, it appears as if the pressure led to a brief relapse.” “He was on his way to the airport to return to his home in Florida and to transitional rehabilitation. He plans now to return to rehab in an undisclosed facility.”

Hopefully Cassidy’s next stint in rehab will help him with his drinking problem and prevent future drunk driving charges.
