  • Deborah Ann Woll May Blur Some Lines in Daredevil: Season 2

Deborah Ann Woll May Blur Some Lines in Daredevil: Season 2

Deborah Ann Woll appears in a new motion poster for Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil: Season 2.

The official Daredevil Twitter account recently tweeted this out, saying “Lines will be blurred,” and showing Deborah Ann Woll as Karen sitting at a desk with a skull and some books while holding a pencil.

What does this mean? Well, we’ll have to tune in to find out (or wait for the inevitable spoilers of course).

In response to a question from Collider about what she enjoys most about playing Karen Page on Daredevil, Woll said, “The things that Karen wants to do and will do willingly are things a little outside my own comfort zone. Even just pestering people with questions, and being nosey and pushy and getting her way, are things I think many young women grow up struggling with, to assert themselves. I love how assertive she is, even sometimes to a fault. I like that the role asks me to do that, even when I wouldn’t ever do it in my life.”

The Daredevil account also put out this one with Elden Henson. Apparently friendship will be tested.

Either way, we know Elektra and The Punisher will be involved. Here’s the latest trailer for Daredevil: Season 2:

It looks like the cast has been having fun together.

You can check out Daredevil: Season 2 on Netflix on March 18.

  • Rosario Dawson May Be Joining More Marvel Shows On Netflix

Rosario Dawson is set to appear on the second season of Daredevil next year, but fans will be happy to know that she may be showing up on crossovers as well.

Daredevil, AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders are all coming to Netflix in the near future, and Marvel announced this week that Dawson’s agreement with the company means she could be involved in any of those shows as Claire Temple.

“After working with Rosario in the first season, we knew instantly that we had to have her back for our second. Claire Temple proved a fan favorite in Season 1, and we can’t wait for fans to see all the plans we have for her next,” said executive producer Jeph Loeb.

According to ScreenRant, Dawson isn’t the only actor who may be involved with crossovers for the many comic-based shows coming to Netflix.

Ultimately, Dawson’s expanding role and crossover potential is only one example of how Marvel aims to capitalize on its complex, interconnected universe. With a Defenders television event in the works, rumors that Doctor Strange will appear in Iron Fist before his own film, and the recently announced superhero line-up for Captain America: Civil War (Avengers 2.5?), the possibilities are endless in terms of how the studio can further coalesce its characters and story lines to create a truly comic book experience.

One of the many upsides to Netflix original programming is that every episode is available at once, meaning fans can binge-watch at their leisure. That may be the case with some recently cancelled network shows once they are added to Netflix’s content, as viewers are learning today that some of their favorite sitcoms and dramas have gotten the ax. Not only that, some shows are simply ending and will see the entire series go up on sites like Hulu (Mindy is reportedly one of those shows). For a shortlist of programs that didn’t make the cut, go here.

  • Daredevil Season 2 Is Official, Set for 2016

Daredevil Season 2 Is Official, Set for 2016

Your Daredevil adventures are far from over.

Netflix and Marvel have announced that the blind crimefighter will return for a second season, following the success of the first season, which premiered earlier this month.

The second season will land some time in 2016 – but an exact date is yet to be specified. There’s no word on the plot of the second season, either.

Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, who helmed season one, will be replaced with Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Horror Story) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy).

“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season,” DeKnight explains, “I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”

Daredevil has been a critical hit for Netflix, currently boasting a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 75% on Metacritic. Fan buzz for the show has also been off the charts. A second season of the gritty crime drama seems to be a no-brainer for Netflix.

  • Netflix Adds Narration for Blind Users – Starting with Daredevil

Netflix Adds Narration for Blind Users – Starting with Daredevil

Subtitles for the hearing impaired are commonplace in streaming media, including Netflix. But descriptive narration for the visually impaired is not nearly as ubiquitous.

Netflix is taking the first steps to remedy this, announcing a new audio description feature that will debut on its original series Daredevil – a series about a blind superhero. This is more than a coincidence, of course.

Netflix’s new narration feature will provide the visually impaired with descriptions of what’s going on on-screen – including things like physical actions, facial expressions, costumes, settings, and scene changes.

To access the feature, users can simply switch in on the same way they choose a soundtrack in a different language.

“Netflix is actively committed to increasing the number of audio-visual translations for movies and shows in our English-language catalogues. We are also exploring adding audio description into other languages in the future,” says the company.

“Over time, we expect audio description to be available for major Netflix original series, as well as select other shows and movies. We are working with studios and other content owners to increase the amount of audio description across a range of devices including smart TVs, tablets and smartphones.”

Netflix plans to expand the new feature to its original series like House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black.

Just a few days ago, with the launch of the new Daredevil series, a petition arose demanding that Netflix “make its new show about a blind superhero accessible to blind viewers”

“Netflix’s new show Daredevil is about a blind lawyer turned superhero — and it seems unfair that if he were a Netflix subscriber, he wouldn’t even be able to enjoy his own show! That’s because important accessibility features for the blind and visually impaired are missing from Netflix productions. They rely on a ‘visual description’ option that tells them what is happening on the screen, and Netflix doesn’t offer this feature for their original content,” said the petition.

Hopefully Netflix will work quickly to add this accessibility to other content, not just its original shows and movies .

  • Daredevil Is Now Streaming on Netflix, Here’s What the Reviews Are Saying

Daredevil Is Now Streaming on Netflix, Here’s What the Reviews Are Saying

All 13 episodes of Netflix’s newest original series, Marvel’s Daredevil, are now available to stream.

“It’s time to let the devil out. Marvel’s Daredevil is here to clean up the streets of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Lawyer by day, street-level hero by night, Matt Murdock is on a mission to make his city a better place against an underground terror within the city,” says Netflix.

Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios, with executive producers Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus), Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods), the series also stars Rosario Dawson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson.

So, what are the critics saying? Reviews have been mostly positive so far. The show currently holds a 75 on Metacritic.

Hitfix’s Alan Sepinwall gave it an A-, saying “the first five episodes of Daredevil suggest it was a risk worth taking. This is easily the best of Marvel’s three shows so far, and quickly moves towards the front of the overall superhero TV pack.”

Variety’s Brian Lowry says “Marvel has shrewdly expanded its portfolio, and Netflix has upped its must-have quotient with a fiercely loyal segment of consumers. Viewed that way, costume or no costume, “Daredevil” looks dressed for success.

The New York Times’ Mike Hale felt mixed about the show, saying he “found the show kind of ordinary, while admiring the care and seriousness with which it’s been made. As crime shows go, it’s pretty good. As comic book shows go, it’s a demonstration of how tricky it can be to turn a comic book into a show.”

Go check it out for yourself. It’s Friday – time for a Netflix binge anyway.

  • Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Finally Gets Release Date

Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Finally Gets Release Date

It’s been about a year and two months since Netflix first announced its upcoming live action Marvel shows. The first of which, Daredevil, finally has a release date, and it’s not really too far off.

Fans will be able to see the superhero in action beginning on April 10. Here’s Netflix’s description:

Last week, we learned a few new details about the upcoming show. For one, it will take a realistic approach to the story. They’re shooting for something reminiscent of The Wire, as opposed to a more cartoony vibe. It will apparently be edgier than most of Marvel’s other output, but will still remain relatively family-friendly.

The show will take place in the same cinematic universe as Marvel’s movies, but will focus on a more localized story in Hell’s Kitchen. It will also be as much about Kingpin as it is about Daredevil (almost, at least).

Another villain, Bullseye, has been said to not be in the series, but it sounds like he’s probably going to make an appearance somewhere down the line. Just not in the first season.

Daredevil will eventually be followed by other Marvel shows about Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. These will all culminate in a miniseries event, The Defenders.

More Details Spilled About Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’

Entertainment Weekly spilled some new details about Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil series after speaking with Marvel’s TV head Jeph Loeb, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, and Charlie Cox, who plays the titular character.

For one, the show will take a realistic approach to the story. They’re shooting for something reminiscent of The Wire. The relevant quotes:

“We really wanted to take our cue from [films like] The French Connection, Dog Day Afternoon, Taxi Driver, and make it very, very grounded, very gritty, very real,” DeKnight said. “We always say we would rather lean toward The Wire than what’s considered a classic superhero television show.” Added Loeb: “There aren’t going to be people flying through the sky. There are no magic hammers.”

According to the article, the show will take place in the same cinematic universe as Marvel’s movies, but will focus on a more localized story in Hell’s Kitchen. It will also be as much about Kingpin as it is about Daredevil (almost, at least).

Another villain, Bullseye, has been said to not be in the series, but it sounds like he’s probably going to make an appearance somewhere down the line. Just not in the first season.

  • Krysten Ritter Makes Her Netflix Debut In Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter Makes Her Netflix Debut In Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter has made a name for herself over the past few years with roles in AMC’s Breaking Bad and CW’s Veronica Mars. Now the actress is entering the world of online programming with Netflix’ and Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.

Ritter will star as the lead in A.K.A. Jessica Jones in a 13 episode series that will debut on Netflix next year. The series is based on a character that showed up in Marvel’s ALIAS comic book. The story goes that our titular hero – Jessica Jones – loses her powers and turns toward a career as a detective investigating cases involving super powers. It’s the kind of story that’s definitely better suited for television and Marvel thinks that Ritter will be the perfect vehicle to bring the Jones’ story to the small screen.

“Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more.”

A.K.A. Jessica Jones is just one of many Marvel TV shows that will be hitting Netflix in the coming year. The first, a series based on Daredevil, is already filming with series based on Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The four TV series will come together in a separate TV series called The Defenders that’s looking to capitalize on Marvel’s success with The Avengers.

Ritter will make her debut as Jessica Jones at some point in 2015.

  • Netflix May Have Its Jessica Jones And Luke Cage

Netflix May Have Its Jessica Jones And Luke Cage

Thursday saw some big news in the Marvel world, particularly with Ryan Reynolds being named as Deadpool in an upcoming film and Benedict Cumberbatch being named as Doctor Strange.

As you may know, Netflix has a few original series from Marvel in the works, beginning with Daredevil, which is to debut in 2015.

This will be followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. These will combine as one big “epic,” and culminate in a miniseries event, The Defenders. The endeavor will stretch over multiple years, and as the announcement said, will take Netflix members “deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York.”

It appears that Marvel now has its Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Deadline is reporting:

Marvel is mum as usual, but I hear they have tapped Krysten Ritter for the lead in the company’s straight-to-series drama Jessica Jones. Ritter was one of five actresses who tested for the role. I hear it came down to her and Teresa Palmer, with both doing chemistry reads with The Following‘s Mike Colter, believed to be the choice for male lead Luke Cage.

Ritter is known for her roles on Breaking Bad and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.

  • Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Picks Up Scott Glenn

Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Picks Up Scott Glenn

Netflix and Marvel announced that they’ve added another cast member to their upcoming Daredevil series, which debuts next year. Joining Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Rosario Dawson, Elden Henson, and Deborah Ann Woll will be Scott Glenn.

Glenn will play Stick, the “mysterious martial artist and mentor” to Daredevil Matt Murdock.

“Stick is one of the most important figures in Matt Murdock’s life and Scott Glenn embodies all the qualities of someone so integral to this hero’s journey,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “There are few actors who could bring such the authenticity, gravitas and charisma to such a key role in Matt’s journey to become the super hero we call Daredevil.”

Glenn is known for films like The Silence of the Lambs, The Bourne Ultimatum, and The Hunt For Red October. More recently, he appeared on HBO’s The Leftovers.

Daredevil will be the first original series from Marvel for Netflix, but will be followed by shows about Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. These will all culminate in a miniseries event, The Defenders.

The shows are to be shot in New York.

  • Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Finds Its Female Lead in ‘True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll

Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Finds Its Female Lead in ‘True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll

With True Blood ending after this season, its actors are looking for new gigs. Deborah Ann Woll, who plays vampire Jessica on the HBO show, has found hers over at Netflix.

Variety reports that the actress has joined the Netflix original Marvel’s Daredevil series – not just cast, but tapped as the female lead. She’ll play the blind hero’s love interest, Karen Page.

Back in May, the series found its lead in Charlie Cox, probably best known for his work on Boardwalk Empire. Soon after, Vincent D’Onofrio signed on to play Wilson Fisk, better known as Kingpin.

Rosario Dawson, Elden Henson and Peter Shinkoda have also signed on as series regulars.

Netflix and Disney announced a deal that would bring the Marvel Universe Netflix’s original series lineup last November. W soon learned that there would be numerous series to come from that deal, including Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Daredevil will be the first series to premiere. All of those shows will eventually culminate in an “epic” miniseries event, The Defenders.

Daredevil will premiere some time in 2015 with 13 episodes.

  • Vincent D’Onofrio Is Kingpin In Netflix’s Daredevil Series

Vincent D’Onofrio Is Kingpin In Netflix’s Daredevil Series

Marvel and Netflix announced on Tuesday that Vincent D’Onofrio will play Wilson Fisk, otherwise known as Kingpin, in Marvel’s Daredevil, which will debut on Netflix next year.

We recently learned that Charlie Cox from Boardwalk Empire will be taking on the titular role.

D’Onofrio is known for such memorable roles as Private Pyle in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, that crazy guy from The Cell, and Detective Robert Goren from Law & Order: Criminal Intent, among many other things.

“D’Onofrio will play Wilson Fisk, a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil,” says Marvel.

“We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ in such an integral role,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero.”

The character was portrayed by the late Michael Clarke Duncan in the much beloved Ben Affleck movie.

  • Netflix’s Daredevil Series Has Found Its Lead

    Nope, it’s not Dexter.

Marvel has announced that Charlie Cox is the new Daredevil, set to star in Netflix’s original series based on the “Man Without Fear.”

“Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed actor Charlie Cox has joined ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’ an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Best known for his acclaimed work in ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and ‘Stardust,’ Cox will play Matt Murdock, the lead role in this all-new Marvel Television series. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.”

Netflix and Disney first announced the deal that would bring the Marvel Universe to the streaming company last November. Later, we learned that there would be numerous series to spring from that deal, including Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Daredevil will be the first full-run (13 episode) series to premiere. All of those shows will eventually culminate in an “epic” miniseries event, The Defenders.

“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Marvel Entertainment President Alan Fine at the time of the deal. “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”

We recently learned that the showrunners were approaching the Daredevil series like “a very large movie,” quite cinematic in scope.

Charlie Cox is a bit of a rising star. He had a recurring role in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire as Owen Slater, so he’s most definitely not an unknown–but he’s not as recognizable as the previously rumored Daredevil choices. Of course, I’m talking about Michael C. Hall, who was rumored to be the frontrunner for the role back in March.

In December, we learned that Drew Goddard would be taking the reins as producer of the Daredevil series. Goddard was the director of the cult hit horror film Cabin in the Woods and the writer of the World War Z screenplay. Goddard has also written for various TV series, including LOST, Alias, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

But he was recently replaced as lead on the show by Spartacus alum Steven S DeKnight. Goddard is still attached, however, in an executive producer role.

  • Netflix’s Daredevil Series To Be Like A ‘Very Large Movie’

It appears that the creators of the upcoming Daredevil Netflix series are going for something cinematic with the show’s debut season. Marvel CCO Joe Quesada discussed it a little with Comic Book Resources (via The Hollywood Reporter).

While it will be thirteen episodes, it sounds like they’re approaching it like a film. Just not the Ben Affleck one. Here are a few of Quesada’s comments from the interview:

One of the advantages is really from the planning stage — obviously it’s much easier to work with a smaller number of episodes than it is with a larger number of episodes. We can sit there and look at 13 episodes and plan it out as a very large movie. It makes seeing the bigger picture a little bit easier.

You can’t deny that there will be binge-viewing. You know that there are going to be some Marvel fans that when this show premieres, they are going to go on to Netflix, and they are going to sit there for 12 to 13-plus hours, and watch the entire thing all the way through. It’s going to happen. The Netflix model offers us the advantage of being able to construct the show in a manner that is very different than a weekly network TV show. Even the way that you parse out information and reveals within the show can be different than you would on weekly TV. With weekly TV, you sit there and go, “The audience may not want to wait two or three weeks to get this particular bit of information.” Whereas with Netflix, we might be able to hold onto a particular piece of information, because they may just watch it two hours later.

Netflix announced Daredevil as one of several interconnected Marvel shows it intends to release. Others include shows about the characters Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. These will combine as one big “epic,” and culminate in a miniseries event, The Defenders. The endeavor will stretch over multiple years, and as the announcement says, take Netflix members “deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York.”

Daredevil will be the first series, and it will debut next year. The release date has yet to be announced. Late last year, Drew Goddard was named as the showrunner. There have been rumors about interest in Six Feet Under’s Michael C. Hall (I’m sorry, it’s just better than Dexter) to play the superhero, but this has not yet moved beyond the rumor phase. Hall has apparently expressed interest though.

  • Tightrope Walking Daredevil Crosses River Seine

There are several ways to cross Paris’ famous River Seine, and using a tightrope is just one of them. That’s just what this French acrobat did.

Denis Josselin, a tightrope walker, has successfully crossed the River Seine in Paris last Sunday. Crowds gathered to see the amazing feat. Others were anxious, and some were just plain excited about the rare event that was about to take place.

Josselin started dabbling in tightrope back in 1988. Prior to that, he was already trained in other activities, such as circus arts, dance, and mime – a true seasoned performer.

This is not the first time Josselin attempted to cross the River Seine. He also crossed the river a decade ago.

For his second successful attempt, Josselin was able to cross the river in just 30 minutes. He crossed a rope that was suspended between Quai de la Rapée and Quai d’Austerlitz. The cable he crossed was 150 meters long, and was hanging 25 meters above the water, which is quite a long way down.

Josselin did not fail to amuse those who came to watch him. At one point, he even entertained the audience by walking a few meters in a blindfold.

“Ever since I started walking on the cables I have stopped dreaming of flying. I am flying,” he said in an interview after his death-defying stunt.

Josselin is the last tightrope walker to have authorization to cross the River Seine. That was back in 2004. Since then, he is the only person to tightrope over the river again. This year, the daredevil says that he is enjoying these rare occasions as much as possible.

Josselin is far from done with these acts. He said that he is planning to cross a tightrope that is suspended over 70 meters high. He has several ongoing projects, but said that he won’t disclose the details as of yet. “I won’t tell you more now.”

  • Netflix’s Daredevil Series Reportedly Eyes Michael C. Hall for Lead

The creators of Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil series have apparently turned their focus on Dexter‘s Michael C. Hall, and want him to play The Man Without Fear.

The report comes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an incredibly popular Facebook fan page devoted to all things Marvel–from small screen to silver screen. They quote a reliable source, but this is obviously just a rumor at this point.

Last November, Netflix and Disney announced that they were developing multiple original series centered on Marvel characters. The first one to debut will be the Daredevil series, but there will be a total of at least four different shows and at least one miniseries. Other characters to get their own Netflix original include Jessica Jones, Iron First, and Luke Cage.

“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment at the time of the announcement. “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”

In December, we learned that Drew Goddard would be taking the reins and producing the Daredevil series. He’ll also write and direct the first episode. You might know Goddard as the director of the cult hit horror film Cabin in the Woods and the writer of the World War Z screenplay. Goddard has also written for various TV series, including LOST, Alias, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

What do you think of Michael C. Hall as Daredevil? It’s just a rumor, but one that’s exciting many fans–at least if you go by the comments.

  • Netflix’s Marvel Shows To Film In NYC

Netflix’s Marvel Shows To Film In NYC

Netflix, The Walt Disney Company, Marvel and NY Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Wednesday that Netflix’s upcoming live-action Marvel shows will be filmed in New York, beginning this summer. The projects are expected to create at least three thousand jobs in the state, including up to 400 full time jobs.

The results will be sixty one-hour episodes focused on “Defenders” Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, as Netflix announced in November.

    Marvel shares some quotes:

“New York is where the entertainment industry started, and this unprecedented commitment from Disney and Marvel is further evidence that we’re bringing it back bigger and better than ever before,” said Governor Cuomo. “And when the entertainment industry thrives, it fuels dozens of other industries and businesses. The competition for these projects is fierce and Disney could have chosen to film these shows anywhere, but they knew that shooting in New York means getting to work with the best in world. These shows bring New York’s super heroes home where they belong–along with hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in new business.”

“Since 2008 Disney has directly contributed almost half a billion dollars to New York’s economy through television and film production, along with approximately 9,000 jobs for New Yorkers,” said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company. “The Governor’s policies make this great state a more affordable and attractive location, opening the door for even greater economic investment and job creation for New Yorkers. Our Marvel series for Netflix will inject millions directly into the local economy and create hundreds of new jobs.”

“We thank the Governor and the great state of New York for helping us create the ultimate backdrop to this epic series. Setting our production in New York City truly underscores the authenticity and excitement we plan to bring to The Defenders and their ‘flawed heroes of Hell’s Kitchen’ stories,” said Alan Fine, President, Marvel Entertainment.

In December, Marvel announced that writer/director Drew Goddard (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Lost,” “Cloverfield,” “Cabin in the Woods,” “World War Z”) will serve as showrunner on the Daredevil series, which will be the first to premiere.

  • Netflix’s Daredevil Series Gets A Showrunner

Last month, Netflix announced a deal with Disney to bring at least four different shows from the Marvel Universe to Netflix starting in 2015. The first show will be about Daredevil, and it now has a showrunner.

    Marvel announced on its site:

Marvel.com brought you the first news of the historic team-up between Marvel Television and Netflix, and now we’re proud to officially announce that award-winning writer/director Drew Goddard (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Lost,” “Cloverfield,” “Cabin in the Woods,” “World War Z”) will join Marvel’s “Daredevil”! Goddard will write and direct the “Daredevil” first episode, setting the tone and look for the show, while also serving as series Showrunner and Executive Producer for the 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.

Goddard’s only directing credit to date is the film The Cabin in the Woods. His writing credits, however, include five episodes of Buffy, five episodes of Angel, five episodes of Alias, nine episodes of Lost, The Cabin in the Woods and World War Z. He also served as producer on various episodes of Alias and Lost.

Following the Daredevil series, Netflix will also get shows about Marvel characters Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. These will all combine as one big “epic,” and culminate in a miniseries event, The Defenders. The whole thing will stretch over multiple years.

The shows are being produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios.
