  • Danica McKellar On Her Sunrise Wedding Ceremony

Danica McKellar is known to most of us as Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years, but she’s also an alum of Dancing With The Stars and an accomplished mathematician, and now she can add something else to her long list of accomplishments: marrying the love of her life in a Hawaiian sunrise ceremony.

The actress spoke recently about her vows to attorney Scott Svesloky, saying the weather was perfect as she made her way down the aisle.

“We were married at 6.30am in a sunrise ceremony. The forecast predicted rain, but there was not a drop of water in the clear sky. The sun came peeking up over the mountains just as I was walking down the aisle, alongside both my parents,” she said.

McKellar also gushed about her triple-tiered cake, which boasted coconut and pineapple filling to tie in with the Hawaiian theme.

The couple ended up staying in paradise for the honeymoon, staying in Kauai, where they shared several adventures together.

“We stayed put in Kauai. It’s so beautiful here. We’ve surfed, kayaked, hiked and even zip lined upside down,” she said.

  • Danica McKellar: Winnie Gets Married In Hawaii

Danica McKellar, also known to many of us as Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years, got married over the weekend.

She married lawyer Scott Sveslosky on Saturday on Kauai, Hawaii.

The two walked down the aisle in a 6:30 a.m. sunrise wedding ceremony.

Danica McKellar said of her wedding, “It was absolutely magical. We were married at 6:30 a.m. in a sunrise ceremony. The forecast predicted rain, but there was not a drop of water in the clear sky. The sun came peaking up over the mountains just as I was walking down the aisle, alongside both my parents.”

    It does sound magical!

They were married in front of only 25 family and friends in an intimate and beautiful ceremony.

Danica McKellar wore a tulle, off-the-shoulder Alfred Angelo mermaid-style dress. She accented the dress with a crystal headband that coordinated with the beading on the skirt of her gown.

“Doing the waltz in my wedding gown was certainly a challenge,” she said of her dress.

McKellar added a string of orchids to her ensemble in honor of the beautiful and tropical location.

Danica McKellar’s new husband, Scott Sveslosky, is a partner at the international law firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton.

Congratulations to Danica McKellar on her marriage!

  • Danica McKellar Ties The Knot To Scott Sveslosky

Danica McKellar is officially a married woman … again!

The former The Wonder Years star and her fiancé lawyer Scott Sveslosky tied the knot over the weekend in Kauai, Hawaii.

McKellar announced the couple’s nuptials on Twitter saying: “Hey guys, I got married!! #dreamcometrue.”

She later described their “magical” wedding to People magazine.

“It was absolutely magical,” McKellar said. “We were married at 6:30 a.m. in a sunrise ceremony. The forecast predicted rain, but there was not a drop of water in the clear sky. The sun came peaking up over the mountains just as I was walking down the aisle, alongside both my parents.”

The wedding was very intimate and only included 25 people. Amongst those who attended were the couple’s sons- ten-year-old Hunter from Sveslosky’s first marriage, and four-year-old Draco from McKellar’s previous marriage.

“Scott and I exchanged our vows, and then we exchanged family vows with our sons Hunter and Draco — we wrote everything ourselves,” she said. “We also performed a sand ceremony where the four of us poured different colored sand into a vase which we will keep at home.”

The couple got engaged in July, and in an October interview with CBS News, McKellar spoke very highly of her husband-to-be. “It’s amazing. Every day is filled challenges and miracles. He’s smart. He’s interested in things. He’s sensitive. He loves reading. I read to him every night,” McKellar said. “It’s my favorite thing to do with him.”

    Congratulations to Danica and Scott!

  • Danica McKellar Is Officially Off The Market

    Danica McKellar is married.

The actress, who is best known as Kevin Arnold’s sometimes sweetheart Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years, married Scott Sveslosky in Kauai, Hawaii on Saturday. The couple wed in a small beachfront ceremony in front of about 25 family members and close friends.

The ceremony included a ritualistic-like blending of the two families. McKellar and Sveslosky exchanged “family vows” with the bride’s 4-year-old son Draco and the groom’s 10-year-old Hunter. McKellar said, “We also performed a sand ceremony where the four of us poured different-colored sand into a vase which we will keep at home.”

The actress/math whiz told People magazine, “It was absolutely magical. We were married at 6:30 a.m. in a sunrise ceremony. The forecast predicted rain, but there was not a drop of water in the clear sky. The sun came peaking up over the mountains just as I was walking down the aisle, alongside both my parents.”

McKellar took to Twitter to announce the big news. She tweeted, “Hey guys, I got married!! #dreamcometrue.”

This is McKellar’s second marriage. She and music composer Mike Verta divorced in 2012. It is also the second marriage for Sveslosky, who is a partner at the international law firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton.

McKellar’s most recent foray into television ended last May when she was voted off Dancing With the Stars in Week 8 of the reality show competition. It was a bit of a rough run for McKellar, who was an early front-runner to win the entire competition. However, she suffered a broken rib during rehearsal in late April. Although McKellar was able to continue in the competition, the injury most certainly had some impact on her performance.

  • Danica McKellar: ‘Wonder Years’ Actress Marries Scott Sveslosky

Danica McKellar of The Wonder Years tied the knot on Saturday in Hawaii. She is now the wife of lawyer Scott Sveslosky. Known best for her role as Winnie Cooper, McKellar didn’t get to marry Kevin Arnold (played on the hit TV show by actor Fred Savage), but would likely say she found–at the very least–a close match.

The couple said ‘I do’ in front of 25 close family members and friends on Kauai, according to a rep for McKellar.

“It was absolutely magical,” Danica McKellar said. “We were married at 6:30 a.m. in a sunrise ceremony. The forecast predicted rain, but there was not a drop of water in the clear sky. The sun came peaking up over the mountains just as I was walking down the aisle, alongside both my parents.”

This is the second time down the aisle for Danica McKellar. She was previously married to Mike Verta, with whom she shares son Draco, who is four. Scott has a son named Hunter, from a previous marriage. Hunter is 10.

“Scott and I exchanged our vows and then we exchanged family vows with our sons Hunter and Draco–we wrote everything ourselves,” Danica said. “We also performed a sand ceremony where the four of us poured different colored sand into a vase which we will keep at home.”

“Before we met, Scott had wanted to learn ballroom dancing, and when I got on DWTS, he was even more inspired,” Danica also said. “Once I left the show–and my broken rib healed–we took lessons together. At the reception, our first dance as husband and wife was a choreographed waltz to ‘So This Is Love’ from’ Cinderella,’ which included dips and lifts and other tricks I learned on Dancing With the Stars. Doing the waltz in my wedding gown was certainly a challenge!”

Scott Sveslosky is a partner at the international law firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter, and Hampton. He and Danica McKellar got engaged in July. May they enjoy many happy years as husband and wife.

  • Amy Purdy Hospitalized After Sustaining DWTS Injury

Amy Purdy joined the Dancing With The Stars injured list Monday after sustaining a shoulder injury while dancing with partner Derek Hough.

At the start of Monday’s show, Purdy and pro partner Hough were happy to learn they were safe from elimination.

Their first routine was a 36-out-of-40-point rumba which – not surprisingly – earned high praise from the judges for their rendition of Light My Fire by The Doors.

“Right after judging, I turned my head and my back cracked and it just seized up,” Purdy, 34, told Erin Andrews in a backstage interview. “Everything’s really painful right now. It’s hard to breathe.”

The pair were unable to perform in the group dance routine with their team once everyone realized the 34-year-old snowboarder needed further medical attention at the hospital.

The judges decided to use Purdy and Hough’s dress rehearsal dance to judge the final routine.

“We just hope the best for her and hope she’s back soon,” teammate Meryl Davis said on the show.

Purdy tweeted about having to leave early:

She also sent NeNe Leakes some encouragement after he was eliminated during Monday’s competition.

And the paralympian gave a final update to fans:

Purdy is the third dancer to be injured this season. Danica McKellar returned to DWTS Monday after sustaining a broken rib last week, and Billie Dee Williams had to withdraw from the competition with a chronic back issue.

No word yet when – and if – Purdy will return to the dance floor.

Here’s the dance routine that led to her injury.

  • Dancing With the Stars: Week 6 Recap

Dancing With the Stars: Week 6 Recap

Dancing With the Stars ended week 6 of its 18th season with a broken rib, some tears, and a judge named Redfoo. The LMFAO member and youngest son of Motown’s own Barry Gordy, Jr. was guest host for the week 6 competition.

The week started with NeNe Leakes talking up her relationship with dance pro Tony Dovolani.

“Tony and I have been through so much,” she said. “This week is definitely a chance for us to be a stronger unit.”

Cue the drama music and welcome on board the garbage mongers who thrive on the crap far more than on the dancing competition.

It was Danica McKellar who broke her rib this week. Even though the pair scored all nines from the judges for their rendition of Whitney’s Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody—a broken rib is almost a guarantee that a mirror ball isn’t in Winnie Cooper’s future. The pain associated with this kind of injury is bad enough when one simply sits around to heal, but when breathing is excruciatingly painful, a dancer is in peril. Or at least her competitive skills are.

Candace Cameron Bure had to ramp up her sexy this week, and that isn’t something that comes easily to the devout Christian.

“Being the sexy girl isn’t inherently me, but I’ve played the sexy girl on TV before,” she said. “So I’m just gonna think of it as another character.”

She did a good job of it, too, as she and Mark Ballas danced to Icona Pop’s I Love It.

James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd were spot on with their quickstep to Grease’s The One That I Want. Redfoo “loved” it and judge Carrie Ann Inaba called James a “leading man.”

Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy started with week with typical Maks drama (should he and NeNe Leakes maybe do their own Dancing With the Stars spinoff?) over a Julianne Hough comment.

“Phoning in? Did somebody really call me out on phoning in?”

His and Meryl’s tango earned them a perfect score, however, so Maks got to smile. Gloat?

Drew Carey and Cheryl Burke performed a respectable tango, but as anyone with dance prowess knows, ‘respectable’ isn’t good in the dance world.

Charlie White and Sharna Burgess turned up Charlie’s hip action and pleased the judges to no end.

Amy Purdy and Derek Hough were so good their dance prompted a marriage proposal from Bruno Tonioli.

    Spoiler Alert:

Drew Carey and Cheryl Burke went home this week.

Who are these stars? Does anyone honestly know where some of these so-called celebrities got their claim to fame? Maybe for season 19 Dancing With the Stars should be renamed Dancing to the Drama.

Do you think the show is more soap opera than dance competition–at least during some episodes?

  • Danica McKellar Suffers Injury On DWTS

Former Wonder Years star Danica McKellar, 39, has become the latest contestant to suffer an injury on the dance competition Dancing with the Stars.

On Thursday, McKellar was rehearsing with her dance partner when she broke one of her ribs. On Friday, she took to Twitter to tell her fans about her injury.

“So…I broke a rib in yesterday’s #DWTS rehearsal,” McKellar tweeted. “Trying my best to pull thru and could use your prayers!! #wanttokeepdancing,” she continued.

Danica is the first contestant to suffer an injury this season, aside from Billy Dee Williams having to withdraw due to a chronic back pain condition, and she hopes that this doesn’t set her back in the competition. She is currently sitting in third place going into Monday night’s show with her partner. She scored 36 out of a possible 40 points last week.

Despite her injury, Danica has still been practicing and is planning on dancing next week. “Had rehearsal today.. it’s tough dancing with a broken rib. @iamvalc choreographed an amazing routine- fingers crossed I can pull it off! :/,” she tweeted on Friday.

Danica is most well-known for playing the part of Winnie Cooper on ABC’s the Wonder Years as a teenager. She was joined, in the competition, by another 80s television sweetheart Candace Cameron Bure, who played DJ Tanner on Full House.

  • Danica McKellar Breaks A Rib During DWTS Rehearsal

It’s not easy to be a contestant on the reality competition show Dancing with the Stars.

Jewel fractured her tibia in both legs. Steve-O suffered a pinched nerve and back spasms. Nancy O’Dell tore the meniscus in her knee. All of those injuries were suffered by Dancing with the Stars contestants during rehearsal.

The injury list, in fact, is a long one. Some contestants are able to battle through the adversity, some are forced to hang up their dancing shoes.

Danica McKellar, you probably know her best as Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years, is also on the list of dancers injured during rehearsal. The math whiz took to Twitter yesterday to relay the bad news, a broken rib.

She followed with an update today.

McKellar spoke at the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C. earlier today. She said that she was wearing a rib brace underneath her dress.

So far, McKellar has been a front-runner in the dance competition. She scored all 9s last week. A couple weeks ago, she was only one point shy from being the show’s first perfect-scorer this season. The Wonder Years alum and her partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy will hopefully be able to put a routine together that won’t further hurt the injured rib area.

You can check out McKellar’s next performance, if she’s able to dance, on Monday 8/7c on ABC. This week, Ricky Martin is stopping by to be a guest judge.

  • Danica McKellar Breaks Rib During DWTS Rehearsal

Another one bites the ballroom dance floor dust.

Danica McKellar tweeted Friday that she’d broken a rib during ballroom practice for Dancing With the Stars with her partner Val Chmerkovskiy.

It’s unknown at this point whether McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years, will be well enough to continue on the show, but it would seem doubtful, considering the pain associated with a rib fracture.

And it seems that McKellar‘s injury is putting a toll on the dancing duo. Chermokvskiy tweeted that it has been a “very very tough week” so far.

If the couple needs to pull out of the competition, it will be a shame. They scored a remarkable 36 out of 40 for their cha-cha routine last week and the judges were expecting them to be just as wonderful on Monday’s show.

It’s not uncommon or surprising to see celebrities suffer from injuries during their stints on DWTS. After all, they don’t do this daily like the pros do and they are using body parts that may get little exercise in their normal lives.

However, despite the pain of broken toes, concussions and ruptured discs, many celebrities and their partners continue to dance through the pain on the show.

This isn’t the first time a contestant has suffered a rib injury. Maria Menounos continued to compete with two broken ribs and a fractured foot during her season in 2012.

And McKellar isn’t the first celebrity to suffer an injury this season.

Billy Dee Williams, 77, withdrew from the competition in March because of a chronic back injury.

From her tweets, it looks like McKellar is going to give it a shot.

When the going gets tough on DWTS, the tough get dancing.

  • Maksim Chmerkovskiy Dances Jive With Danica McKellar On DWTS

This past Monday on ABC’s hit dancing/reality show Dancing With The Stars, the star contestants did something that has never been done in the history of the nine-year-old show: they switched pro-dancing partners in what has been branded “The Switch-up.” The pairings for “The Switch-up” were chosen by the show’s online Twitter community, and one of the Twitter-created pairings placed Danica McKellar with “bad boy of the ballroom” Maksim (Maks) Chmerkovskiy.

The new switch-up was particularly interesting for McKellar, as her temporary new partner (Maksim Chmerkovskiy) was the older sibling of her current pro-dance partner Val (Valentin) Chmerkovskiy. For this week’s Dancing With The Stars, McKellar and Chmerkovskiy danced a Jive to “Love Me Right” by The Swag Geeks and Brook Penning. The couple performed their Jive with a 50’s theme with a juke box as a centerpiece and included two back-up dancers (a Dancing With The Stars troupe member and pro-dancer Lindsay Arnold) for select sections of their performance.

Not many people noticed, but during the start of their dance performance, there was a slight issue with the music; however, McKellar pressed onward during the performance. McKellar’s “switch-up” partner Maks commended his partner on the way she handled the tiny mishap which mainly went unnoticed.

McKellar and Chmerkovskiy’s Jive routine was comprised of various swing-based content, including the following sections:

    • Precise pointed-toe Jive flicks
    • Clean under-arm turns (first chorus)
    • Sugar pushes with whip (second chorus), more commonly seen in West Coast Swing.

Towards the conclusion of the Jive routine, McKellar runs up and hugs Val, who she will be paired back with for the remaining shows of the season.

Even though McKellar and Chmerkovskiy presented a well-performed Jive for us, the comments from the judging panel are what really gave the dancers some attention. During the judges’ critique of McKellar and Chmerkovskiy’s Jive, guest judge Julianne Hough lashed out at Maks with the following comment:

“I’m going to say this, because I am the brutal Julianne that I am. I almost felt that: Maks, I’m sorry, hun, you’re Mark this year. I felt that it was like this week could get past, so that you can get back with Meryl again.”

The Mark who Hough was referring to was other pro-dancer Mark Ballas, who Hough previously slammed last year during her first guest-judge appearance on the show. According to The Examiner, the “majority of viewers agree that the comments were not very constructive and Hough was way too personal in her feedback.”

Next week, McKellar will return with previous Chmerkovskiy sibling Val, and Maksim will return to Olympic skater Meryl Davis on Dancing With The Stars as they dance to their favorite Disney tunes. .

  • Danica McKellar Dances Foxtrot For Week 1 Of DWTS

There has been a lot of momentum happening with the partnership of The Wonder Years alum Danica McKellar and pro-dancer Valentin (Val) Chmerkovskiy prior to the Dancing With The Stars‘ premiere this past Monday on ABC. The couple even picked out a mashed-up name for the competition, branding themselves as Team Vanica. This helped the Twitterverse get excited about their first dance on the Dancing With The Stars floor, the Foxtrot.

On Monday, McKellar and Chmerkovskiy danced a Foxtrot to Kelly Clarkson’s “Walk Away”–a beat-driven song, which I thought suited a Cha Cha better than a Foxtrot. McKellar’s outfit was very modest and formal. During the dance, in my opinion, McKellar held great posture throughout the song, maintained good footwork (especially during her promenade walks), and the synchronized turns toward the end of the routine were perfect.

All three judges praised McKellar on her first dance of the season, but they did find various things to critique the couple on.

    • Carrie-Ann: Be careful a tad with your shoulders. You and Val have great energy together!
    • Len: You’re holding a little tight with your left hand on Val’s shoulder, and that adjusts by lifting your shoulder a little.
    • Bruno: They’re right. Watch your shoulders, and at times, you get so involved, you throw away your move a little bit. So, control that.

All three judges also gave “Team Vanica” 8’s across the panel, which totaled to 24 for their first week of dancing together.

In a recent interview with FOX News, McKellar was asked “You’re already making a splash in glossy mags for your rehearsal outfits. Are you going to dare to bare some serious skin with your costumes?” McKellar offered the following response:

“I think a given with this show. I’m really glad that all the rehearsing is getting my body extra tone for the outfits.”

Next week, since the stars had the chance of picking the style of dance they would like to dance to, McKellar chose Samba–the Brazilian party dance.

  • Danica McKellar Announces Dancing with the Stars Team Name

Danica McKellar, of The Wonder Years fame, has joined the cast of Dancing with the Stars Season 18. McKellar will pair up with Ukranian professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy and after considerable discussion on Twitter, the two have announced their team name: Team Vanica.

Chmerkovskiy is the brother of Maksim Chmerkovskiy who has made numerous DWTS appearances over the years, both as a contestant and as a guest dancer. Maksim will re-join the cast in Season 18, partnering with Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis.

McKellar became a household name in the late 1980s when she starred as Winnie Cooper on the television series The Wonder Years. The show ended after a six season run, and although McKellar has done some acting since, she’s spent a fair amount of time studying math and writing books.

In 1998, McKellar graduated summa cum laude with a degree in mathematics from University of California Los Angeles.

“I love that stuff,” McKellar has said of her fondness for math. “I love continuous functions and proving if functions are continuous or not.”

While at UCLA, McKellar and a fellow student partnered with Professor Lincoln Chayes to prove a property that would indicate when the magnetic field would line up in a certain direction. The result of their extensive research was a published paper and the Chayes-McKellar-Winn theorem.

From there, McKellar segued into writing books as a means of encouraging girls to succeed in mathematics. In 2008 she published Math Doesn’t Suck: How to Survive Middle School Math without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail and quickly followed that up with Kiss My Math: Showing Pre-Algebra Who’s Boss in 2009, Hot X: Algebra Exposed in 2010, and Girls Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape in 2012.

According to Eilleen Pollack in her New York Times article “Why Are There Still So Few Women in Science?” McKellar “may well have done more to encourage girls to stick with math than any government task force.”

But for now, McKellar will pursue slightly less academic ventures as she heads to the Dancing with the Stars ballroom.

  • Danica McKellar, “The Wonder Years” Star, Joins DWTS

If you are not engulfed within the mathematical world, it has probably been a long time since you have heard the name “Danica McKellar.” The name may sound familiar to you if you were a fan of the late-eighties’ comedy/drama The Wonder Years when McKellar starred as “Winnie Cooper,” the love interest of the show’s main character Kevin Arnold (played by Fred Savage). Now, McKellar steps onto the ballroom for season 18 of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars.

On Tuesday, March 4th, Good Morning America announced the cast list for the dance-reality show Dancing With The Stars‘ 18th season. The announcement of the new season’s cast was presented by Tom Bergeron and the show’s new co-host Erin Andrews. As the season 18 cast lineup was presented, a lot of familiar names and faces came to mind, including The Wonder Years‘ McKellar, who was announced first.

McKellar also published the announcement of her debut on Dancing With The Stars on Twitter, and also announced that she will be paired with pro-dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy:

Elizabeth Berkley, another 80’s pop icon who Val has previously danced with, tweeted her excitement in cheering on his new partner for season 18:

During the season 18 cast announcement on Good Morning America, McKellar praised the dancing show and offered the following statement pertaining to her upcoming journey:

“I hope they’ll be there for me. I’ve been a fan of Dancing With The Stars since the very beginning. I’m just thrilled and I hope to do a good job.”

Besides McKellar’s involvement with The Wonder Years, the summa cum laude UCLA graduate has been involved within the mathematics world, publishing various books for adolescent audiences on the challenging topics of algebra and geometry.

Dancing With The Stars Season 18 premieres on March 17th on ABC.

  • Danica McKellar Makes Out With Avril Lavigne

Danica McKellar may be known to most people as Winnie Cooper from the ’80s television show “The Wonder Years”, but she’s also the hot girl who kissed Avril Lavigne in a music video.

McKellar appears in the vid for “Rock N Roll” as a sort of post-apocalyptic badass alongside Avril; the two get into some adventures while chasing down the bad guy (who wants to kill Rock N Roll, of course) and end up locking lips while Avril gives a very Kevin Arnold-type voiceover.

“It was the first kiss for both of us. We never really talked about it afterward,” Lavigne says. “But, I think about the events of that day again and again, and somehow I know that Winnie does, too.”

Lavigne made headlines earlier this year when she married Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger in the South of France.

“The best part about the wedding is the location,” she said. “I want to make sure I really enjoy this amazing time and I want all the guests who come to have this once in a lifetime experience. I want everyone to say ‘Wow!’ and for it to be special for everyone, not just us.”
