  • Ben Stiller May Direct Zoolander Sequel

In 2001, Ben Stiller asserted that “I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.” Thirteen years later, Stiller has had plenty of opportunities to learn if there was anything more out there. Apparently, there wasn’t much, hence rumors of a Zoolander sequel coming soon.

In an interview with Vulture, Stiller’s co-star in Zoolander, Justin Theroux, shed some light on the future plans for the comedy cult-classic:

Yeah, we’ve got a script for the sequel, and we’ve just been in talks again. We’re trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running.

The news that there is a Zoolander sequel script comes as both excitement and relief as the sequel was first announced back in 2010 and received no traction afterwards. At that time, it was rumored that Theroux, who had writing credits under his belt through his work on Stiller-produced Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2, would be directing the sequel. Now that four more years have passed, however, things have appeared to change:

I don’t think I’m going to do it [direct Zoolander sequel] anymore. It really depends on whether the show gets picked up. If it gets picked up, then I don’t think I’ll have the time to do it. So it’ll probably get handed to Ben, which would be awesome.

Theroux cites his reluctance to direct the film due to his constantly hectic schedule, especially considering he is now the lead actor on one of HBO’s newest series, The Leftovers.

Fortunately, though, Stiller does most likely have the time. After finishing the arduous task of filming The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and with Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb hitting theaters on December 19, it appears as if Stiller’s schedule has opened up just enough for him to squeeze Zoolander in.

And, at last, we might finally know whether there is anything more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking.

  • Roger Hill, Cyrus From “The Warriors,” Dies At Age 65

Roger Hill had a short career in film, but for those who saw the iconic film The Warriors, he will be remembered simply as Cyrus. The film has become a cult classic, and while his name may not be well-known to most people, his character played an intricate part in the film.

Hill was a life-long resident of New York City, and died in his hometown on Thursday morning. After being born and raised in New York, he attended City College of New York. He is survived by his only son, Chris Hill, who is a film editor.

The film features Roger Hill as Cyrus, the leader of the one of the gangs in New York City, while the film focuses on several gangs fighting for territory. Cyrus is shot down at the beginning of the film while delivering a public speech to several gangs, while hoping to unite all of the street gangs in New York City.

He was cast in the film after a real life gang member mysteriously went missing just before the film’s director, Walter Hill, had expected to start filming the classic 1979 film.

After Cyrus’ death, the warriors are falsely blamed, and are forced to fight their way home throughout the course of a single night as the other gangs try to take them down.

The film was based on a novel by Sol Yurick, and later inspired a video game of the same title from Rockstar Games that was made for the Playstation 2 and Xbox. As the character continued a life of its own in the game, Roger Hill took notice, and ended up filing a lawsuit of $250,000 against Rockstar Games for using his voice and depicting him in their game.

None of the actors present in the film were well-known at the time, which made it feel much more natural for each of them to represent members of street gangs. The Warriors also helped launch iconic quotes such as the plea that Cyrus uttered as he was killed, saying “Can you dig it?” and the famous “Warriors…come out to play” line.

In his later years, Roger Hill had left his acting career, and had been working as a librarian, while also writing poetry. He began a career in theater, and spent time appearing in several Off-Broadway productions.

He retired from acting in 1987 after an 18-year career that was spent mostly in theater, while being most well-known for his iconic role as Cyrus in The Warriors.

  • Cary Elwes Set to Write ‘Princess Bride’ Memoir

Cary Elwes Set to Write ‘Princess Bride’ Memoir

If you are familiar with the quote, “My name is Inigo Montoya. You Killed my father. Prepare to die!” you’ll probably be psyched to know that Cary Elwes, who played Westley in the cult classic The Princess Bride, is said to be penning a memoir about his experience filming the movie.

As You Wish: Tales From the Princess Bride, named after Westley’s well-remembered line to Princess Buttercup, played by Robin Wright, will be co-written by Joe Layden, and feature interviews with Billy Crystal, Wright and other cast members. Rob Reiner, who directed the film, will contribute a foreword.

Elwes says a cast reunion at the New York Film Festival in 2012, in which a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the film was held, inspired him to write the book.

“It was a joy to work on such a magical film with an amazing cast of talented actors and friends,” Elwes said in a statement. “It will be great fun to revisit The Princess Bride and to share my fond memories of the unforgettable experience we all had.”

The Princess Bride tells the tale of Westley, a young farm boy who is searching for his love, the princess, after being apart from her for five years. He meets a plethora of quirky and hilarious characters, and comedy ensues.

Elwes and others took to Twitter to share their excitement over the book:

Although Elwes has been featured in many movies since playing in The Princess Bride in 1987, including Hot Shots!, Twister, Days of Thunder and New Year’s Eve, some would say Westley was his most famous role.

Touchstone plans on debuting the book in the fall of 2014. Have fun stormin’ da castle!

  • Carmageddon Studio Kickstarts a Sequel

Do you miss driving your car up onto the sidewalk and mowing down pedestrians? If you answered yes, you will be excited to learn the the original game studio that designed the cult classic Carmageddon will be creating another sequel – as long as it gets a Kickstart. The studio, which is still independent, is asking the public for $400,000 to ensure that Carmageddon: Reincarnation will become a reality.

The Kickstarter page for Carmageddon: Reincarnation states that Stainless Games, the game developer, recently re-acquired all of the rights to the Carmageddon property. Now, the studio hopes fans of the original game will help the studio finish the game. From the Kickstarter page:

We’re a modest-sized indie developer (around 50 trapped souls), and we’ve already invested well over a third of a million dollars getting the rights back and beginning design and prototyping. This represents all of our profits from our other work – but we think it’s worth it. We currently have a small team working on the project – but without some sort of dedicated funding, that can’t continue indefinitely. We can’t put this game into full production without a sizeable team dedicated to it. So we need a pile of CASH to get the game made. Or more chocolate and nicer cake. But CASH is more likely to work, to be perfectly honest.

Judging by the Kickstarter page, which is a bit silly, it seems as if Stainless Games is very excited to have back the property that put them on the map. It states on the page that the studio is reluctant to give up any creative control of Reincarnated to investors or a publisher, hence the crowdsourcing. The game will be released on Valve’s Steam platform, and the scope and amount of content in the game will be based on how much the studio raises from the Kickstarter campaign.

People who pledge $15 or more will receive a copy of the completed game and those who pledge $25 get beta access to the game and membership on the official Steam Community game discussion forum. Those who pledge more can receive various swag from the developer, receive special downloadable content, have their image placed into the game as a doomed pedestrian, or even fly to England for the game’s launch party. Check out the Kickstarter video below and leave a comment letting us know what you think a Carmageddon sequel should be.

I put this in order of my favorites, there are more being sold on 84/5’s Etsy. The original posters for 2001: A Space Odyssey are minimalist enough for me, and there are a lot of other images from that movie that are better suited for this kind of artwork.

Also, I’m not sure if the amount of text on some of these really qualifies them as “minimalist”, but they are cool none-the-less.

What do you think? Which ones are your favorites?
