  • Nadya Suleman: Welfare Fraud Could Land Octomom in Prison for Five Years

Nadya Suleman, better known as “Octomom,” is making headlines again, but this time it isn’t for eviction or for starring in a pornographic movie. The mom to 14 kids is being accused of welfare fraud. Suleman will appear before a Los Angeles County judge on Friday for her arraignment. If she is eventually found guilty, she could face more than five years in prison.

According to Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey, “While applying for public aid, the mother of 14 children allegedly failed to disclose that she was also getting checks for personal appearances and residuals from videos.” Suleman reportedly failed to claim almost $30,000 in earnings on her adult work in her welfare application. She is being charged with “one count of aid by misrepresentation and two counts of perjury by false application for aid.”

The criminal complaint obtained by KTLA says that Suleman “illegally gained about $16,500 in aid from CalWORKs and CalFresh during the first half of 2013.” Nadya Suleman hasn’t released a statement on the charges, so it’s unclear whether the failure to report the additional revenue was simply an oversight or if she intentionally omitted the income for fear that she would lose at least part of her public assistance benefits.

As you likely remember from the media storm that surrounded the octuplets, this isn’t the first time Suleman has been the center of welfare controversy. Suleman had six children prior to conceiving the octuplets, and it was later uncovered that the California mom was already receiving public assistance before getting pregnant again. Even though Suleman was able to get off welfare for a time, she went back on welfare in January of 2013. Suleman reportedly began receiving $2,800 per month for food and emergency cash, as well as medical and dental benefits.

The public reaction to Suleman being charged with welfare fraud has been varied, with some people pitying the mom while others are outraged. As you can see below, some people are wondering whether trying the case is ultimately worth the time and money.

  • Jameis Winston is Named in Rape Lawsuit

Jameis Winston is on top of the world right now, but are things about to come crashing down? The redshirt freshman quarterback won the Heisman Trophy last month and led the Florida State Seminoles to a win over the Auburn Tigers on Monday in the BCS Championship Game. Despite all the good things going on in Winston’s life right now, he just received the news that he will be named in a civil lawsuit.

As college football fans likely remember, Winston was accused of raping a student. He was accused in late 2012, but it was only in November 2013 that the prosecutor reviewed the case. The prosecutor decided that there wasn’t enough evidence to build a case against Winston and dismissed the charges shortly before the ACC Championship Game. Even though Winston’s DNA was found on the victim’s underwear, DNA from another male was also found and the accuser’s story was inconsistent.

Now, just days after Winston led his team to a national title, the lawyer for Winston’s accuser has announced plans to file a civil lawsuit against Winston, the Tallahassee Police Department and maybe even Florida State University.

“I want heads to roll,” Patricia Carroll, the accuser’s lawyer, told ABC News. “The family is proceeding, with civil action against the TPD and Jameis Winston. And possibly the university. Absolutely you’re going to see a civil suit. You can not have law enforcement that is not held accountable.”

Carroll has made it clear that the accuser and her family are quite dissatisfied with how the case was handled by the Tallahassee police. The lawyer believes that “improper procedures” led to the dismissal of the case against Winston. Carroll also mentioned that her client had to withdraw from FSU and told not to come back for her own safety. Even though media reports haven’t mentioned the accuser’s name, it was found out by some FSU students.

“I inquired if…if she could return to FSU and they told me absolutely not,” Carroll said. “They too had the impression she would be in physical danger.”

So far there hasn’t been a statement about the possible lawsuit from FSU or Winston.

  • Waitress in Oregon Receives Methamphetamine for Tip

Most people have probably heard the saying, “If you can’t afford to leave a tip, then you can’t afford to go out to eat.” Apparently a couple in Oregon takes this saying to heart because even though they didn’t leave their waitress a cash tip, they did leave something behind–just not something any law-abiding citizen would want. When the waitress found an envelope left after a couple paid for their drinks, she looked inside and found methamphetamine.

The waitress, whose name hasn’t been released, discovered the meth on Friday morning. The waitress says that after a couple paid their bill at Twisted Fish in Seaside, Oregon, they left an envelope. When she looked inside, she saw what she suspected to be meth and called the police. The police officer on the scene confirmed that the substance in the envelope was indeed crystal meth.

Police arrested two people in the meth tip case–Ryan Bensen and Erica Manley. After police searched Bensen and Manley, they ended up finding more meth on Manley. According to reports, Manley was arrested for possession of meth, manufacture and delivery of meth. Bensen was originally arrested for possession of methamphetamine and manufacture of methamphetamine, but reports say police later released Bensen without filing charges against him.

Check out the mugshots for Bensen and Manley below.

Police aren’t sure whether the meth was really left behind as a tip or if it was a mistake. “I don’t think it is clear whether it’s a tip or not,” Marquis said. “They left it behind, whether it was an accident or joke or serious. We’ll probably find out in grand jury next week.”

As strange as the meth tip case is, this isn’t even the most bizarre crime story that has been reported on this week. A man in McLoud, Oklahoma is being accused of killing his stepfather by giving him an atomic wedgie.

  • Atomic Wedgie Murder: Man Accused of Using Underwear to Kill Stepfather

Here’s something you don’t hear every day–a man in McLoud, Oklahoma was killed by an atomic wedgie. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this more extreme form of a wedgie, the atomic wedgie involves pulling the waistband of a person’s underwear over his head. Brad Davis, 33, was arrested in connection with the death and admitted to giving his stepfather an atomic wedgie during a fight.

There’s no doubt that police officers have heard of some of the more bizarre ways to kill someone, but the atomic wedgie murder has certainly thrown the police in Pottawatomie County for a loop. Sheriff Mike Booth said that he had never even heard of the term “atomic wedgie” before talking to his suspect. “I’d never seen this before, but when we first looked at our victim seeing the waistband of his underwear was around his neck,” Booth said.

Denver St. Clair was killed on December 21. The fight reportedly occurred after a night of drinking and got started when St. Clair made some bad comments about Davis’s mother. Davis called 911 after his stepfather stopped breathing, and police found him at his home with his underwear pulled around his neck. Davis later told police that he gave his stepfather an atomic wedgie during a fight.

St. Clair’s death was eventually ruled a homicide, and the Oklahoma state medical examiner’s office says that St. Clair’s death was caused by “asphyxiation caused by the elastic underwear band being stretched over his head and left around his neck.” In addition to the underwear around the neck, St. Clair also had several injuries, including an injury to the head. The ME also noted that it was possible that blunt force trauma to the head could have contributed to St. Clair’s death.

Davis maintains that his stepfather attacked him and that he only fought back–and gave the atomic wedgie–as a form of self-defense, but police aren’t buying that story and plan to charge him with murder. “We continued our investigation and uncovered evidence that led us to believe that this was more than just a fight,” said Booth.

  • Aaron Hernandez Linked To Boston Double Homicide

Details from a search warrant filed in Connecticut show that former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez may have been involved in a 2012 double homicide in Boston.

The warrant does not reveal who pulled the trigger or the motive behind the shooting of  Safiro Teixeira Furtado and Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu .

Abreu and Furtado were gunned down on July 16, 2012 after leaving Cure Lounge with three other friends when someone in a SUV pulled up next to their vehicle and shot them. The warrant alleges that Hernandez was the driver of that vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner SUV, which matches the one parked at the home of  Hernandez’s uncle in Bristol. No charges have been filed yet and Hernandez’s lawyer was not immediately available for comment.

Hernandez, 24, has already been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was a semi-professional football player whose body was found on June 17 near Hernandez’s Massachusetts home. He pleaded not guilty in that case.

There is yet another case where Alexander Bradley, an acquaintance to Hernandez, filed a civil suit against him for shooting him in the eye in February. Bradley does, however, have a checkered past as he is known for confrontations with police. Bradley was held in a Connecticut correctional center last fall for a drug-related crime. He also has a warrant for his arrest for evading authorities who tried to subpoena him to appear as a witness before a jury investigating the double homicide.

The latest search warrant was reported by the Hartford Courant and was filed in Bristol court. It details phone call recordings and surveillance camera recordings possibly linking Hernandez to the Boston murders. The surveillance video shows Hernandez and Bradley entering the nightclub shortly after Furtado and Abreu. Hernandez and Bradley then leave the nightclub 10 minutes later and Hernandez is seen driving a SUV out of the parking lot. Shortly after, the shooting victims are seen leaving the club at around 12:10 am heading toward the parking lot and Hernandez’s SUV passes by them twice. According to a third man that was in the car with  Furtado and Abreu, a SUV pulled up next to them and shots were fired into their vehicle. Police now say that prison phone call recordings show Hernandez discussing details of the Boston murders between Oct. 4 and Oct. 15.

  • Miss Venezuela And Ex-Husband Shot Dead By Robbers

Former Miss Venezuela Monica Spear was shot dead, alongside her ex-husband Thomas Henry Berry during an attempted car robbery, police said Tuesday.

The 29-year-old former model and Telenovela star was travelling towards Valencia City in a grey 2002 Toyota Corolla with her ex-husband and daughter when their car broke down. The car was then lifted into a tow truck. Upon seeing the bandits coming, the couple and their 5-year-old daughter ran into the Corolla and locked themselves in.

Their refusal to open the car window was met with gunfire. Spear and Berry died but their daughter survived with an injury to her leg and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The case of the slain popular soap-opera actress and her former husband now joins other cases of high profile crimes in Venezuela, where armed robbery, killings as well as kidnappings have become rampant. Even professional athletes and foreign ambassadors have been victims. Spear had earlier confessed to HuffPost Voices that she left her native Venezuela due to insecurity.

The director of the country’s investigative police Jose Gregorio Sierralta said that the police have arrested four suspects in connection with the murder. Some of the suspects are under 18 years of age.

Luis Carl, a friend of Thomas Berry, said the family had spent the holidays in the Merida mountains of western Venezuela then travelled to the plains. He described the slain couple as people who had a good relationship despite the fact that they were not together at the time.  Carl said the couple loved the country a lot.

Carl hoped that their deaths may spur the country’s fight against crime which increased dramatically during the rule of the late Hugo Chavez, who died last year due to cancer.  The country has one of the highest crimes rates in the world and is plagued by other problems such as food shortages.

  • It’s So Cold Escaped Prisoners Are Turning Themselves In

It’s really cold out there. Really, really cold. A good chunk of the country is still feeling the effects of the Polar Vortex, arctic cyclone, circumpolar whirl – or whatever you want to call it – and that means that a lot of people are blanketed by single-digit and even sub-zero temps.

How cold is it? Well, it’s apparently cold enough to make Andy Dufresne think twice about crawling through that river of filth to freedom – or something like that.

An inmate at the Blackburn Correctional Complex near Lexington, Kentucky had his escape foiled not by police, but by mother nature. 42-year-old Robert Vick voluntary turned himself in after just a day on the lam after he found the frigid conditions were too harsh to bear.

Maybe this had something to do with it:

By the time nightfall hit, temperatures around Lexington had plunged below zero, with windchills in the minus 20s.

In all, Vick spent Sunday night and Monday afternoon out in the cold. When he’d had just about enough, he strolled into the office of a local motel and told the clerk to call the police.

“This was definitely of his own volition,” she said. “It’s cold out there, too cold to run around. I can understand why the suspect would turn himself in,” said a spokeswoman for the Lexington Police Department.

I guess Vick decided to cut his losses and figured he’d give it another shot in the spring. As a minimum security facility, it’s not like Blackburn is Shawshank or anything.

  • Police Defend Decision to Free Priest Killer

Eureka, California police have stated that there was no reason to hold murder suspect Gary Lee Bullock, who was freed from custody just hours before slaying Reverend Eric Freed of St. Bernard’s Catholic Parish. Reverend Freed was found dead in the rectory of the church on New Year’s Day, after missing morning mass.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department defended the decision to let Bullock out of custody, citing that there was no serious criminal behavior committed, or any evidence of psychiatric problems. Lt. Steve Knight commented, “This was standard practice,” adding that, “It was truly a tragic, tragic event that this happened after the fact. Unfortunately, we release people from our jail because we have to, and they go commit other crimes. There was no indication of anything unusual here.”

Police Chief Andrew Mills stated, “In this, I am satisfied our officers did what they could do, given the parameters of the law. The question becomes could we have done other administrative things such as taken him over to the shelter. Would that have been reasonable? We’ll have to wrestle with these questions.”

According the the Eureka Police Department press release concerning the murder:

On Dec. 31, 2013 BULLOCK was the subject of a radio call regarding a person who was acting strangely in the Garberville area of southern Humboldt County. Humboldt County deputies located and arrested BULLOCK for public intoxication. He was taken to jail where he was rejected due to his erratic behavior.

BULLOCK was then taken to the hospital for evaluation where he became more agitated and had to be physically restrained by deputies. BULLOCK was ultimately booked into jail at 1634 hours.

Gary BULLOCK was released at 0043 hours on January 1, 2014. At about 0200 hours officers from Eureka Police Department were dispatched to 615 H Street, regarding a suspicious person. Officers contacted BULLOCK nad found that BULLOCK was not intoxicated and did not qualify for an emergency psychological hold. Officers referred BULLOCK to an emergency shelter for the night.

Bullock was then free to enter St. Bernard’s. A warrant was then issued for his arrest, and deputies discovered the suspect riding in his stepfather’s pickup truck, near his mother’s property, while en route to turn himself in. Bullock surrendered without incident, and bail was set at $1 million.

  • Pregnant Woman Murder: Husband Charged With Slaying

A charge has been brought against the alleged killer of missing pregnant woman, Melissa Sowders, whose body was apparently discovered on Thursday in Harris County, Texas.

The estranged husband of Sowders, 28-year-old Matthew Sowders, may face the death penalty or life in prison in the slaying of his ex-wife and her unborn child.

Divers found the body of who they believe to be the 26-year-old behind Matthew’s home.

Her abandoned white Honda Accord on I-45 led investigators to the exact location of the body in Cypress Creek. Sowders had been missing since Dec. 26.

Her boyfriend said the last time he spoke with her is when she dropped him off at work prior to meeting up with her ex-husband and their daughter. Witnesses say she was seen at McDonald’s with the two the day she disappeared.

During a hearing Friday, two witnesses came forth to testify against Matthew.

According to one woman, she saw what she “believed to be a lifeless body in the doorway of Matt Sowders’ apartment when she went to visit” on the same day the mom-to-be went missing.

She then alerted the police in a conference call, which led to Matthew openly confessing his involvement in the murder of his ex-wife.

Matthew was denied bond on Friday and is being held in the Harris County Jail.

His attorney claims that his client had nothing to do with Sowders’ death.

“He is maintaining his innocence. It was a shock to be charged and arrested without a cause of death determination. He is not guilty of this charge,” Neyland said in a statement to ABC News.

An autopsy has yet to be done to verify the identity and cause of death.

Yet, further details into the story make the motives behind her death seem like an act of jealousy.

Opened records show that the two filed for divorce in October 2013 and were in the middle of the legal process. They had four children together. However, Sowders was said to be expecting her fifth child with her boyfriend.

  • Ceramic Squirrel Stabbing: No Beer Leads to Violence

A North Charleston woman was arrested early Christmas morning after stabbing and beating her significant other with a ceramic squirrel.

Helen Williams, 44, got into an altercation with the man over beer.

According to reports, the 41-year-old man went out for beer earlier that night but the store was closed, as in many other stores that aren’t typically opened on Christmas Eve.

When he arrived back at the house Williams went into a rage, beating him over the head and stabbing him in the chest and shoulder.

The wounded man with scratches all over his face rushed to a nearby neighbor’s house for help and called 911.

After police arrived, Williams was questioned about her visibly bloody hands and clothes. She claimed that the wounded man fell and cut himself.

    However, evidence showed otherwise.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Most ceramic squirrel sculptures are made by a process of heating and cooling clay (pottery for example), usually are small in size, and can be crafted in different designs. They can also be made with pointy tails, so I can’t even imagine getting stabbed by one!

Fortunately for Williams, her heinous and yet unusual attack OVER BEER will not go unpunished.

Williams was arrested and placed into the Charleston County jail Friday on a $10,000 bail. Her charges include criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Here is a pretty decent video tutorial showing how ceramic squirrels are made.

Looks like a pretty lethal weapon to use, huh?

  • Meth-Head Masturbator Man Subdued By 15 Cops

One day you’re walking in the bar to enjoy a pint with your mates, the next thing you know, a guy fends off a dozen or more cops while masturbating at them.

Though he claims he has no recollection of it, Andrew Frey, 37, of Beaverton, Oregon, was high on methamphetamine, masturbating, and subdued by 15 police officers at Iggy’s Bar & Grill on Sunday.

At about 1PM on Sunday, the first call came into the Marion County Sheriff’s office about a man acting strangely. Frey had allegedly refused to pay a locksmith he called to at his home.

From there, he went to a gas station with a convenience store attached. Frey hung out for a while until an employee had escorted him off the premises. Frey’s next journey was to head down the road to Iggy’s Bar & Grill, where he calmly, under the demonic powers of meth, sat at a barstool, whipped out bowser, and exposed himself to a bartender, police said.

    (image)

Frey, mindless, started pleasuring himself in public.

As soon as this happened, a police officer was called on the scene – Frey had vanished. The lone Marion Country deputy crept slowly towards the bar’s bathroom where he discovered Frey conducting a one-man show. Frey wasn’t having it, and neither was the officer; according to the deputy, he tased Frey multiple times due to Frey resisting arrest. The Taser wasn’t very effective, so, the officer got into a fight with Frey.

Due to the fight with the meth-head masturbator, the deputy couldn’t reach for his radio, yet the dispatcher managed to call in massive backup.

The swarm of cops had arrived and, with 15 police officers in total, managed to subdue Frey; he was arrested and charged with public indecency, resisting arrest, and theft of services.

Frey was then taken to Salem Memorial Hospital for evaluation due to his erratic behavior.

According to The Oregonian, Frey reported that he didn’t remember a thing. He took methamphetamine on Saturday, and all was a blur ever since.

Frey was then transported to the county jail shortly after.

  • Reno Shooting: Gunman Kills 2 At Renown Medical Center

Reno Police have confirmed two people dead on Tuesday, after several shots were fired at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, NV.

According to Department Deputy Chief  Tom Robinson, one of the deceased was the shooter, who succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two other people were wounded and are now listed as being in critical condition at the facility. The authorities have not confirmed the motive for the shooting, but they do not believe it was a random act.

According to CNN News, the shooter barged into the building with at least one firearm at around 2:45 p.m and began shooting. At around 3 pm he reportedly shot himself to death. One of the victims injured is reported to be a doctor at the facility. However, the other victims have yet to be identified. Reno police spokesperson Angela Rambo said the shooting occurred in the Center for Advanced Medicine B.

Doranda Cone, a facility resident, was one of the eyewitnesses to the incident. She said she was on her way to see the doctor when the shooter began his attack. “I saw this woman with blood all over her being rushed past me to the ER,” Cone said.

According to Kat Raco, an ophthalmic technician, he heard at least two large bangs and sound of people running on the building’s third floor. Those present said the police were quick and professional in handling the situation as they ordered people in the building to lock the doors to prevent anyone else from coming in. Officials say most of the medical staff were busy seeing patients when the shooting occurred.

“The police handled it in the best way possible,” a police spokeswoman said. The building doesn’t have armed guards.

  • Broncos Game Stabbings Might Not Be Game-Related

Some people may have taken the Broncos at home defeat to the Chargers too personally in a bizarre turn of events. As fans were leaving the stadium, several of men became mixed up in a confrontation that resulted in multiple stabbings. Denver police have confirmed three individuals were hospitalized due to stab wounds. One of the men was said to be in critical condition. There are also reports of a possible fourth victim, but no one has been identified as of yet. The three men thought to be responsible for the attack are in police custody.

The incident was first reported a few minutes before 10:00PM. The authorities are continuing to interview witnesses in an attempt to figure out exactly what lead to the bloody encounter.

Says Denver police spokesman Sgt. Steve Warneke, “Detectives will be interviewing people throughout the night, trying to sort out who did what.” Stadium officials had promised in an official statement that they will work with authorities to “gather more information” regarding the incident.

Even though the mystery surrounding the confrontation has yet to be revealed, there is good reason to assume it’s crazy sports fans acting out.

In September at a 49ers game, a man was hospitalized following a fight that allegedly stemmed from his having urinated on another man’s car. During the same game a woman claimed to have been attacked by a rival female fan. One of the more memorably chilling fan encounters occurred about a decade ago, where a man was shot and killed over a disagreement involving baseball teams.

In fact, fan violence over sports is increasingly the norm these days. There are few things that bring passions higher than sports, but at some point, one has to take a step back. Is a favorite team really worth spilling the blood of a total stranger? Is it worth spending the rest of your life in jail?

These are likely questions the apprehended are asking themselves right now, if it turns out to have been yet another pointless fan confrontation. The truth of the matter should be revealed in the coming days.

  • Michael Bargo Becomes Youngest on FL Death Row

In April 2011, 15 year old Seath Jackson was invited to a house by his former girlfriend under the guise of rekindling their relationship. Once the couple arrived at the house, though, it became quite clear that this invitation was a trap. Jackson was first beaten with lumber by a group of teens, and then shot multiple times. Upon discovery that Jackson was still alive, the group tied Jackson up and placed him into a bath tub, breaking his knees during the process so that he would fit into a bag. At that point, one of the teens then shot Jackson in the face, ultimately killing the 15 year old. Once the murder was committed, the teens burned Jackson’s body in a fire pit, shoveled his remains into 5 gallons buckets, and dumped the ashes into a local quarry.

Today, Circuit Judge David Eddy of Ocala, Florida sentenced Michael Bargo, the 21 year old mastermind behind this vicious crime, to death. In handing down the death sentence to Florida’s now youngest death row inmate of 404 total, Eddy stated, “I reference my experience to note this is the most cold calculated premeditated case of murder I have ever seen.” Judge Eddy has served as a judge in Florida for 32 years. The decision came after the jury overwhelmingly voted in favor of the death penalty by a tally of 10-2.

The state prosecutors had little trouble presenting evidence against Bargo due to hearing admissions and stories from his 4 accomplices. During the trial, the prosecution pointed toward the soured relationship between Bargo and Jackson as to the cause of the murder. Both Jackson and Bargo had dated Wright, the female who led Jackson to the house under false pretenses.

The case for the defense was much more difficult. Throughout the course of the proceedings, the defense offered three statutory mitigating factors: Bargo’s age, the fact that he did not understand the criminality of his actions, and that Bargo was under extreme mental duress at the time of his actions. Judge Eddy only gave weight to the first and last defenses offered, but reluctantly. Bargo displays signs of suffering from both partial complex seizure spectrum disorder and schizoaffective disorder, but Eddy ruled that neither illness was drastic enough to alter Bargo’s behavior to the extent of committing murder.

Throughout the ordeal, Bargo has maintained his innocence as to actually committing the murder; he has stuck with his story that he was not there at the time of Jackson’s death, but helped as an accomplice after the fact.

Bargo plans to appeal the ruling due to disagreements with the verdict and how his attorneys handled the case. Until that time, Bargo will have to deal with what he thinks is the worst aspect of this situation: “That’s what eats me up the most, I got all these people out there hating me.” Perhaps that time will be long enough for Bargo to finally understand the criminality of his actions.

  • Two Teenage Girls Take Selfies Before Robbery

When you’re a teenager influenced by a hubris culture, taking a picture of yourself (a “selfie” as they say) and your friend wearing ski masks and clenching knives is the only way to show how cool you are, even if it’s used against you in a court of law.

Such is the case with a 17-year-old girl and her accomplice. According to reports in the Swedish edition of news website The Local, before they robbed a Max hamburger restaurant in Halmstad, southern Sweden in March of this year, they took pictures of themselves with their smart phone. In one of the pictures, the two girls wear hoodies and balaclavas; one girl holds her phone with one hand – in the other, she clenches and holds up a 30cm (11.8 inches) kitchen knife.

According to The Local, the two girls wound up stealing 2,420 krona ($368) from the diner. A court heard witnesses say that the girl held up the restaurant staff, brandishing the knife and yelling: “Give me the money, or I’ll stab you!”

Around 47 minutes after the crime, police with sniffer dogs tracked down the two girls. The first piece of evidence they police uncovered was a bag filled with money, the second was the phone that contained the incriminating photos. Police were able to trace the dastardly duo back at one of the girls’ grandmother’s home.

Last Friday, the eldest girl who was found at the grandma’s house was convicted and sent to juvenile detention. During the mitigation, the court uncovered that the girl had a difficult childhood and had been thrown out from her family home. Her sentence would have been harsher had she been 18; the girl will receive treatment from a youth psychiatrist.

The other girl, despite overwhelming evidence, was not convicted due to a lack thereof. She had told police that the pictures taken in the mirror were nothing more than a mere joke.

The Local also reported that among the evidence was the phone that contained numerous selfies, a picture of the money, and a quote by US poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, which read: “Commit a crime and the world is made of glass”.

  • Paris Hilton Issues a Threat After Brother Barron Hilton is Attacked

You know the long-standing feud between Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan? Well, things just got a little more heated. According to TMZ, Paris is furious after her younger brother Barron Hilton was hospitalized following an attack. Barron posted a picture of his injuries to Instagram and claimed that he was attacked because of Lindsay Lohan. Paris is now in big sister mode and has threatened Lohan online.

TMZ reported that Barron was attacked at a party he attended in Miami. Apparently, the 24-year-old made some rude comments in Lohan’s direction, which prompted her to get another guy to cave his face in. Even though Lohan claims she wasn’t even at the party when Barron was attacked, TMZ shared a cell phone video that clearly shows Barron and his friends confronting her.

While Lohan’s dad Michael claims that his daughter has alibis that will prove she wasn’t involved in the attack, a source confirmed Barron’s story with Page Six. The sourced said that Lohan ordered a friend to beat up Barron and says that the young Hilton filed a police report:

They had been partying all night, when Lindsay’s current boy toy started talking to Barron about what a nightmare she is and how he wants to end things with her. Barron sympathized with him, but Lindsay overheard and was so angry he was ‘talking smack’ about her. She ordered her friend [to] beat up Barron.

Barron has filed a police report naming Lindsay Lohan and his attacker, who is a friend of hers. Miami police are looking for them both. Barron’s face is a mess and he has been seen by a doctor. He is the victim and is really shaken up.

After Barron posted the following photo of his injuries to Instagram and blamed Lohan, Paris commented saying “They both will pay for what they did. No one f***s with my family and gets away with it!!” Both Barron and Paris deleted their comments regarding Lohan, but nothing ever really goes away on the Internet.

Nicky Hilton made a comment on Twitter that many believe was related to the attack:

  • Genius Instagrams Stolen Car Part from Paul Walker Crash, Promptly Arrested

In you’re-not-just-the-worst-person-in-the-world-but-also-the-worst-social-media-user-in-history news, an 18-year-old has been arrested after stealing a piece of the wrecked Porsche from the crash that claimed the life of actor Paul Walker.

And in a shockingly daft (but totally unsurprising) move, the ill-timed memorabilia scout helped police make the arrest by posting a photo of stolen car part on Instagram. Oh yes he did.

As you can see, posting the photo wasn’t good enough. Jameson Witty decided to make it super easy on law enforcement by captioning the photo “pice of Paul Walkers car, took it off a tow truck at a stop light. It’s a good thing he tagged #paulwalker in the post, as that probably helped propel the confession into the flurry of Paul Walker posts that have inundated the internet since last Saturday night.

Maybe he figured nobody was really talking about Paul Walker.

    Either way, holy shit dude.

According to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station, Witty’s Instagram account of what happened it pretty accurate. They say that a witness spotted him lift the car part from a tow truck as it was stopped at a red light.

Witty didn’t act alone, and both he and his accomplice are facing charges of felony grand theft and tampering with evidence.

  • Amanda Bynes is a No-Show for Court

Amanda Bynes is a No-Show for Court

Amanda Bynes is finally out of rehab, but she has managed to tick off a New York judge by not appearing for court. The 27-year-old former Nickelodeon star left rehab after spending four months there and will reportedly seek outpatient help while pursuing a college degree. This all depends on whether she shows up for her next court hearing, though.

2013 has not been a good year for Bynes, and among her other troubles, she was arrested back in May. Police went out to her Manhattan apartment after someone called in a report of someone smoking marijuana. Bynes was arrested after allegedly throwing a bong out the window of her apartment. Since she has been in rehab for a few months, the legal proceedings stemming from that incident are just now taking place.

After a judge declared Bynes mentally competent to stand trial in November, she was supposed to report to court yesterday, but was a no-show. According to NY Daily News, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Diana Boyar was “visibly irritated” with Bynes for not showing up.

“Where is the defendant?” Boyar asked Bynes’ attorney, Gerald Shargel. “Is she still in the hospital?” Shargel told Boyar that Bynes had been released from rehab into her parents’ custody and said that the prosecution already knew that Bynes wouldn’t be present for the hearing.

Even though the prosecution said they weren’t requesting a bench warrant, Boyar said that if Bynes didn’t appear for the next court hearing, a warrant would be issued for her arrest.

It isn’t likely that Bynes will face any jail time in this case, as long as she shows up for future court dates. In the meantime, Bynes is planning to take some college classes to help her get her life back on track. According to lawyer Tamar Arminak, Bynes is thinking about fashion college. “She’s now looking at various colleges with the intention of majoring in fashion design,” Arminak said. “She’s mentioned before she’s interested in creating a clothing line.”

  • Jameis Winston is Thankful the Sexual Assault Investigation is Over

It’s back to business as usual for Florida State star quarterback Jameis Winston now that he has been cleared in a sexual assault investigation. Winston, a redshirt freshman at FSU who looks to be a lock for the Heisman trophy, was first named in a sexual assault investigation almost a year ago. Florida state attorney Willie Meggs announced the decision not to charge Winston during a press conference yesterday.

“We have a duty as prosecutors to only file…charges if we have a reasonable likelihood of a conviction,” Meggs said. “We did not feel we could meet that burden.” While Winston’s DNA was found on the accuser’s shorts and underwear, DNA from another source was also found, but never identified. Meggs told reporters that it was a “logical conclusion” that the accuser had sex with more than one person on the night in question.

While some people are suspicious of the timing of the case being dropped against Winston–just days before the ACC Championship Game and a little over a week before the Heisman ceremony–Meggs promises those events have nothing to do with the case. The “timing [of the case] has not been driven by Heisman demands or a football schedule,” Meggs said. The state attorney did say that the case had taken longer to resolve than it should have because the victim wasn’t cooperative.

Jameis Winston, who has been silent about the case since it started making rounds, released a statement last night regarding the situation:

“I want to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for standing by me during a difficult time,” Winston said. “I also want to thank the State Attorney’s Office for examining all the facts and reaching a decision in a conclusive manner. it’s been difficult to stay silent through this process, but I never lost faith in the truth and in who I am. I’m very relieved I’ll be able to continue my education at Florida State and I’m excited I can now get back to helping our team achieve its goals.”

Even though many college football fans are thrilled that Winston was cleared in the investigation, many folks on Twitter think this is just another situation of a guy getting off scot-free because he is a popular athlete.

  • Keri Russell: Home Broken Into While She Slept

Not even celebrities are safe from having their homes broken into, even if they’re home when it happens.

Keri Russell, of Felicity fame and the current FX series, The Americans, was sleeping in her Brooklyn Heights brownstone when she heard noises around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning coming from upstairs. When she got up to find out what the cause of the noises were, she found a window in her living room and her front door wide open.

Russell told the NYPD that the burglars got off with a laptop computer, a necklace, earrings, and a Filson handbag.

Law enforcement told TMZ they arrested two men some blocks away from Russell’s home burglarizing the residence of a 70-year-old white woman a little after 5:00 a.m. The woman described the two men and the cops found them nearby and took them in for questioning.

Thanks to the great work of the NYPD, Russell didn’t have to wait long to get her belongings back. They even went to the set of her TV show, The Americans, to give her back her necklace, earrings, laptop, and purse.

While on the set of her show, Russell told The New York Post, “The New York City cops were awesome. They’re bringing my stuff back right now — when does that ever happen?! ”

Russell’s rep said, “Everyone is fine, and Keri sends her thanks to the police. She returned to work on The Americans today.”

It looks like Russell was the only one home at the time of the incident. The report says her husband, carpenter Shane Deary, and their children, son River and daughter Willa were not there at the time of the break in.

A spokesperson for the NYPD said Ronald Swindell and his nephew Steffon have been arrested and charged with burglary in the incident at Russell’s home and criminal possession of stolen items for the second home.

  • Montana Judge’s Ethics Questioned After Giving a Rapist 31 Days in Prison

Montana Judge’s Ethics Questioned After Giving a Rapist 31 Days in Prison

The judge in Montana that made headlines back in August for giving a rapist a 31-day sentence has now apologized for comments he made about the victim. Judge G. Todd Baugh made comments that the 14-year-old rape victim looked older than she was and had control in the situation. Even though Baugh stands by his decision, he now says he is sorry for making the controversial comments.

Baugh heard the case against Stacey Dean Rambold, a former teacher that was accused of raping 14-year-old student Cherice Moralez in 2007. Rambold was 47 at the time of the rape. According to reports, Rambold sexually assaulted Moralez three times at his home; Moralez filed charges against Rambold about a year later. The teen committed suicide before the case went to trial, and Rambold was eventually found guilty on one count of sexual intercourse without consent.

The prosecution wanted to put Rambold behind bars for 10 years. At the suggestion of Rambold’s attorney, Baugh decided to sentence the man to 15 years in prison with all but 31 days of the sentence suspended. According to the defense, Rambold suffered enough by losing his job. Even though Rambold was only sentenced to 31 days in prison, he will remain on probation for 14 years.

As outrageous as Baugh’s decision was, some of the comments he made during the sentencing have received just as much ire. Baugh said that Moralez appeared “older than her chronological age” and that she was “probably as much in control of the situation as was the defendant.” The judge maintains that his comments had absolutely no impact on his ruling, which many people find hard to believe. Instead, Baugh claims that his reason for the slap on the wrist was because of Rambold’s behavior in the time following being arrested for rape.

“The defendant’s last legal or moral transgression was the crime he committed and admitted,” Baugh said. “In the ensuing almost six years, he had legally and morally good conduct, he was reinstated in sex offender treatment and the undisputed evidence supported community placement and treatment.”

Many people believe that Baugh should resign from his seat, something he refuses to do. “I shouldn’t have said that…I don’t contest that appearance of impropriety,” Baugh said. “I don’t think it’s appropriate to be removed.”
