Crazy Taxi Comes To Mobile In City Rush

Crazy Taxi is one of the greatest arcade games ever made. Sega recognizes this, and has milked the franchise over the years with ports to consoles and mobile devices. Now after all the ports – the original creator of Crazy Taxi is back with a brand new title exclusively for mobile devices.

Sega announced this morning that Crazy Taxi: City Rush is coming to iOS and Android devices later this year. The free-to-play title was designed by Crazy Taxi creator Kenji Kanno and developed by Hardlight Studios.

So, how does Crazy Taxi: City Rush stack up to the original? The core gameplay is still the same, but some concessions have been made to better suit mobile devices. For starters, the taxi is now on a somewhat fixed path going at a fixed speed. To turn, you swipe left or right at street corners and you can swipe down to turn around. The game is also mission based so you won’t be picking up random passengers anymore.

Of course, this is a free-to-play game so you’re going to have to deal with the usual pitfalls associated with the genre. Playing the game will cause an energy gauge to deplete and you can’t play anymore once said energy gauge is empty. The gauge does refill over time, but you can buy an instant refill through money earned in-game or through in-app transactions. Like the best free-to-play titles, the game can be completed without having to spend a single cent. If you don’t want to wait, the option is there though.

Despite the revamped control scheme and new mission structure, the game appears to retain the Crazy Taxi spirit. If you still can’t believe it, check out this comparison video from GamesRadar:

  • Sega Finally Brings Crazy Taxi To Android

Sega Finally Brings Crazy Taxi To Android

Crazy Taxi is one of the greatest arcade games ever made, and it was even better on the Dreamcast. The latter has been ported to pretty much every platform ever, including iOS, but it was still missing on Android. That all changes today.

Sega announced that Crazy Taxi is now available on Google Play for a host of Android devices. It’s the same great game that you remember from your youth, but with touch screen controls that only slightly dampen the experience. It also includes the original soundtrack featuring tracks from The Offspring and Bad Religion.

Like the Dreamcast version of Crazy Taxi before it, the Android version features the core game alongside the 16 mini-games that catapulted the console versions of the title to greatness years ago. The mini-games will probably be even harder with touch-based controls, but that’s part of the fun.

You can pick up Crazy Taxi from Google Play today for only $5. If you don’t particularly like Google Play, it will also be available through the Amazon App Store and Samsung Store in the near future.

If you want a taste of Crazy Taxi on mobile, here’s the game running on iOS. Both iOS and Android versions of the game are pretty much identical so you don’t have to worry about any game breaking differences:

  • Crazy Taxi Out Now For iOS, Coming To Android Soon

Sega redefined the teaser earlier this week with an 11 second trailer that only told us that Crazy Taxi was coming to iOS. The teaser also indicated that the original soundtrack from the arcade, which included tracks from The Offspring and Bad Religion, would remain intact. Both of those appear to be the case now that the game is actually out.

Sega announced today that Crazy Taxi is now available for all iOS devices. Players can now take to the street as the world’s best/worst cab driver on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It’s also available in all territories except for Asia, but it will be arriving there shortly.

Here’s the launch trailer for the iOS version. Thankfully, it’s longer than the original teaser.

It seems that Sega actually ported the Dreamcast version of Crazy Taxi instead of the arcade original. It’s only a good thing as the Dreamcast version included a number of mini-games that extended the gameplay experience beyond the basic game.

In even better news, Sega announced that the game is coming to Android soon. Sega has traditionally been one of the better developers in the Android space, so Crazy Taxi should see a near perfect conversion on the platform.

You can snag Crazy Taxi for your iOS device right now for only $4.99.

  • Crazy Taxi Is Coming To iOS Devices Soon

What is the greatest arcade game ever made? If you said anything besides Crazy Taxi, you would be wrong. For many years, Sega’s taxi sim has been one of the first things you should look for when entering an arcade. Arcades are a dying breed, however, and you need to get your Crazy Taxi fix. Until now, the game has only been available on game consoles, but it will soon be on everybody’s favorite mobile devices.

Sega announced today that Crazy Taxi will be launching on iOS devices – iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch – in the near future. They even shared a short teaser trailer that redefines the meaning of short:

The trailer is only 11 seconds long, but it does serve one very useful purpose. It confirms that the music from the original game is back. The recent rereleases of Crazy Taxi on game consoles removed the music from The Offspring and Bad Religion as Sega had lost the rights. It seems they got the rights back for the iOS release. Here’s hoping the games get updated on consoles to include the music as well.

It’s no secret that Sega has been hurting the past few years. A renewed focus on mobile is definitely going to help them make some cash as they work on major AAA console titles like next year’s Aliens: Colonial Marines. Speaking of Sonic, Sega also has a new Sonic game called Sonic Jump launching on iOS devices soon.

Crazy Taxi, Sonic Jump and whatever else they can cook up will hopefully make Sega one of the few traditional publishers to find success on iOS. These kind of games are perfect for the short gaming sessions that iOS gamers demand.
