Google Adds Collections To Google+ For iOS

Back in May, Google launched Google+ Collections, which lets users create collections of content around any given topic, just as they could create a board on Pinterest or a magazine on Flipboard. Collections basically look like any other Google+ page, but centered around the theme the user has chosen.

Until now, the feature has only been available for Android and the web, but on Monday,Google announced that it’s now available on iOS.

In a Google+ post, Google’s John Kilcline writes:

Google+ users on Android and the web are using Collections to connect with others around shared interests ranging from Homebrewinghttps://goo.gl/llrjAO, Climbing Junkie Photoshttps://goo.gl/Jeaaqr to Magical, Mystical Mountains https://goo.gl/OCM4mm and Marine Life https://goo.gl/4ISRZz. Today, we’re excited to announce Collections on iOS.

Create a Collection about something you’re interested in; make as many as you’d like;  and don’t worry about over sharing since people can follow just the Collections they like.

Google+ users who have already created Collections asked us for the ability to customize who can see their Collections and if they could add taglines to describe them. We recently announced these features on Android and the web; today they are also available on iOS. To better explore the wide range of Collectionshttps://goo.gl/437uWV already created, we announced last week that you can search for Collections on Google+ on Android as well.

When Collections first launched, we took a deeper dive into how the feature works, which you can check out here.

  • Facebook Tests New “Collections” Feature

    Facebook Tests New “Collections” Feature

Facebook has begun testing a new feature called “Collections,” which will let retailers provide new ways for Facebook fans to share products they like with their friends. It comes in the form of a new type of Page post that is eligible to appear in the news feed.

For the test, people will be able to engage with Collections by “liking”, “collecting” or “wanting” the products. Facebook is testing these three actions, and is creating three distinct groups of users to test each action. Products within a Collection will also have a “Buy” link, sending people offsite to purchase a product.

The feature is not a social plugin, and it’s not available offsite (yet, at least).

    Facebook Collections

Facebook has given us the following statement on the feature:

We’ve seen that businesses often use Pages to share information about their products through photo albums. Today, we are beginning a small test in which a few select businesses will be able to share information about their products through a feature called Collections. Collections can be discovered in News Feed, and people will be able to engage with these collections and share things they are interested in with their friends. People can click through and buy these items off of Facebook.

Facebook is currently testing the feature with Pottery Barn, Wayfair, Victoria’s Secret, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus, Smith Optics and Fab.com.
