Colin Powell Is Now On The Salesforce Board Of Directors

Salesforce announced on Friday that it has appointed retired four-star general (and former National Security Advisor, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Secretary of State) Colin Powell to its Board of Directors. His position actually went into effect on Thursday, and increases the size of the Board to 11 members.

“We are honored and delighted that General Powell has joined our Board of Directors,” said Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. “General Powell is an extraordinary leader who has inspired and influenced me during more than 15 years of friendship. He was also instrumental in shaping salesforce.com’s integrated philanthropic model and the formation of the Salesforce.com Foundation many years ago. We couldn’t be happier to have him join our Board.”

Powell added, “After many years of friendship with Marc and admiration for salesforce.com, I am excited to be joining the Company’s Board of Directors. In addition to being on the forefront of innovation, salesforce.com has been a remarkable leader, and has inspired many other companies, as it has made philanthropy a central part of its value system.”

Powell was already making headlines this week for posting a vintage selfie on Facebook:

He hasn’t posted anything about Salesforce yet.

In addition to Benioff and Powell, the company’s Board consists of: Keith Block (president and vice chairman); Craig Conway (former CEO of PeopleSoft); Alan Hassenfeld (former chairman and CEO of Hasbro); Craig Ramsey (former senior vice president of worldwide sales for Siebel); Sanford Robertson (principal of Francisco Partners); John Roos (former U.S. Ambassador to Japan); Lawrence Tomlinson (former senior vice president and treasurer for Hewlett Packard Company); Robin Washington (CFO of Gilead Sciences); and Maynard Webb (chairman of Yahoo).

  • Colin Powell’s Facebook Page Hacked, Disses Bush

Former Secretary of State General Colin Powell is the latest public figure to lose control of their social media account.

Earlier this morning, Powell’s Facebook page was commandeered by an unknown hacker, who began to fill the page with anti-George W. Bush posts.

“BUSH IS WALKING IN HIS ROOM WITH A KUKLUXKLAN HAT ON HIS TARDED HEAD,” read one post.

“YOU ARE SUCH ASS HOLE COLIN YOU WILL BURN IN HELL FOR THE CRIMES YOU AN ALL BUSH AND ROCKFELLES AND OTHERS!” read another.

The hacker also posted Bush family photos that leaked last month to a new photo album.

Users tried to alert Powell that his account had been compromised, and eventually the page went down – presumably to fix the intrusion.

Once he regained control of the account, General Powell posted this message to his 81,000+ followers:

Dear Friends, as most of you realize, my fb page has obviously been hacked. I’m sorry you have to see all the stupid, obscene posts that are popping up. Please ignore as we are working with fb to take care of this problem. I appreciate your patience.

Reminder: Everyone has to be vigilant when it comes to password security, but if you’re a public figure you have to be extra cautious.

UPDATE: Powell posted another status, this time complimenting Facebook for their help with the situation:

Dear Friends, I’m happy to report that the hacking problem has been fixed. We have been working with fb this morning and they took immediate action to remedy the situation.

  • Colin Powell Isn’t Ready to Endorse Anyone Just Yet

Colin Powell, former chairman of the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently revealed that he isn’t quite ready to endorse anyone at this stage in the game. According to the Associated Press, Powell isn’t going to “to throw my weight behind someone” right now, and that includes the current president. Four years ago, he went against the Republican grain by ditching senator John McCain in favor of Obama.

In an interview with “Today Show” anchor Matt Lauer, Powell discussed several of Obama’s positive points, which include stabilizing the financial system and fixing the auto industry. However, because of the president’s questionable handling of the country’s economy, Powell feels he owes it to the Republican party to hear their ideas on how to resolve the situation.

“There are some things that he has done I wish he had not done. For example, leave Guantanamo open. I would have closed that rapidly. He tried. He was stopped by Congress,” Powell explained. He also added, “I think he took us out — not completely out — but he took us out of the most difficult problem we were facing at that time, which was an economy that was collapsing. And it’s improving, but not fast enough. So his number one goal for the rest of this year, as it should have been for the whole four years, is to get the economy running again.”

At this moment in time, Powell hasn’t decided if he’s going to once again endorse Obama or put his support behind Republican hopeful Mitt Romney. “I always keep my powder dry, as we say in the military,” he remarked.

As one can imagine, people have an opinion on Powell’s decision to keep his endorsement card tucked in his back pocket until he’s given both candidates a chance to prove themselves on the campaign trail. You can find an assortment of Powell-oriented reactions below.
