Kirk Cameron Speaks Out Against Gay Marriage

Cameron ticked off quite a few people when he said that he did not support gay marriage and that homosexuality was ”destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.” The star of “Growing Pains” is now defending the controversial statement that he made on “Piers Morgan Tonight.”

“I was surprised, frankly, that people were surprised by the things that I’ve said,” he told host Ann Curry. “I have been consistent for 15 years as a Christian. I’m a Bible-believing Christian. What I would have thought was more newsworthy is if I had said something that contradicted the word of God, if I had contradicted my faith.”

Curry then asked Cameron if he hated homosexuals, “Absolutely not,” he said. “I love all people, I hate no one…When you take a subject and reduce it to something like a four-second soundbite and a check mark on a ballot, I think that that’s inappropriate and insensitive. To edit it down to that, it certainly didn’t reflect my full heart on the matter.”

He went on to say, “I think that [homosexuality] is unnatural. I think thast it’s detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”

Cameron went on to explain that he does not hate gays nor anyone, ” He just has convictions that are informed by his Christian faith.”

The Christian movie star and producer spent the last year and a half on a personal journey traveling through europe and the United States in search of what he calls the real national treasure of America: “I’ve got six kids and as a dad, I’m wanting my kids to have a great future and I look at what’s going on around, turn on the news and economically we’re struggling greatly as a nation, we’re 15, 16 trillion dollars in debt — families falling apart, divorce, teenage pregnancy, suicide, crime, drugs, alcohol, so many things. I’m thinking, how can you turn things around culturally? and with so many people playing the blame game, with the right blaming the left and the left blaming the right, I’m thinking maybe there’s a simple solution. If only we could get in a time machine and go back and talk to the men and women who built this country, these courageous moms and dads who went against all odds and started a brand-new idea maybe they could tell us what we’re doing right and wrong and what to do to get on the right track.” His journey led him to create a new documentary titled “Monumental.”

“Monumental” opens up in select theaters on march 27th.

One homosexual individual defended Cameron’s statement and posted after the trailer for his movie on YouTube:

“Im a gay man & had took no offence when watching the Piers & Kirk interview. I didnt see Kirk act/sound hateful. I even saw Kirk hesitate when asked those loaded questions by Piers. Since Piers knows Kirk’s beliefs it is almost as if Piers wanted Kirk to look bad. I think Kirk is being treated unfairly for his honest opinion & beliefs. Quit asking the question(s) if you cannot accept someone’s honest response. You want your opinions respected, so respect Kirk’s.”
