  • Rapper Overdose Confirmed by Medical Examiner

Chris Kelly of the rap group Kriss Kross died of a drug overdose, a medical office investigator told the Associated Press on Monday.

The 90’s musician died on May 1 from a mixture of drugs, confirmed Betty Honey from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office in Atlanta. The office did not release information about the type of drugs found in Kelly’s system.

Kelly’s mother Donna Kelly Pratt told police that her son used cocaine and heroin the night before his death, according to the Associated Press report. She also told police that he had an “extensive history of drug use.”

The 34-year-old was found in his Atlanta home by paramedics and could not be resuscitated.

Kelly and Chris Smith of Kriss Kross were best known for their 1992 hit “Jump.” The trend-setting pair was also known for wearing their clothes backwards.

Kelly’s mother released a statement to Us Weekly:

“To millions of fans worldwide, he was the trendsetting, backwards pants-wearing one-half of Kris Kross who loved making music. But to us, he was just Chris — the kind, generous and fun-loving life of the party. Though he was only with us a short time, we feel blessed to have been able to share some incredible moments with him. His legacy will live on through his music, and we will forever love him.”

  • Rapper: Overdose Found To Be Cause Of Death

Rapper Chris Kelly, who was one half of the popular ’90s group Kriss Kross, died in May under mysterious circumstances; at the time, police said they believed it to be drug related, but didn’t release many details. Now, the coroner’s report has come back, and it looks like his death has been ruled an overdose.

Kelly reportedly had a mixture of drugs in his system when he died, including heroin and cocaine. His mother told police he had a history of drug abuse and had been using the night he passed away. She was the first to issue a statement about his death, saying:

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved Chris Kelly has passed away on May 1. To millions of fans worldwide, he was the trendsetting, backwards pants-wearing one-half of Kris Kross who loved making music. But to us, he was just Chris – the kind, generous and fun-loving life of the party. Though he was only with us a short time, we feel blessed to have been able to share some incredible moments with him. His legacy will live on through his music, and we will forever love him.”

Kelly and friend Chris Smith were discovered at an Atlanta mall as teenagers by producer Jermaine Dupri, and soon shot to stardom with their debut album “Totally Krossed Out”. Their style of dress–wearing clothes backwards and sagging their jeans–became enormously popular with middle-school and high school-aged kids, and the duo enjoyed success through most of the ’90s. Although they’d moved on with their careers separately as adults, they reunited earlier this year to perform at the So-So Def 20th Anniversary Concert.

Kelly: Overdose Suspected in Rapper’s Death

Earlier this week, the tragic death of rapper Chris Kelly stunned music fans. The 34-year-old Kelly was found dead in his Atlanta home Wednesday evening. He was later declared dead at a nearby hospital.

Now, a police report has surfaced showing that Kelly had been taking hard drugs the night before his death.

An Access Hollywood report on the police document states that Kelly’s mother, Donna Kelly Pratte, told police that Chris had taken both heroin and cocaine Tuesday night. She stated that she and others had left Chris, who had complained of nausea and had passed out, at his home on Wednesday morning to sober up.

A drug overdose is suspected as the cause of Kelly’s death, but an official cause of death will have to wait for toxicology reports. According to family members and friends, Kelly had a known history of drug abuse.

Kelly was best known as one half of the rap duo Kross Kross. He and fellow rapper Chris Smith gained fame in the early 90s through their hit single “Jump.” The pair also became infamous for wearing their clothes backwards.

Pratte on Thursday released a statement regarding her son’s death, stating that he was the “fun-loving life of the party” and that “his legacy will love on through his music.”

  • Deftones Pay Tribute To Chris Kelly, Kris Kross

Deftones played a show at The Pageant in St. Louis last night, and after learning of Kris Kross rapper Chris Kelly’s death, paid a bit of a tribute, adding some lyrics from the smash hit “Jump” to their own song Engine No. 9.

Luckily, YouTube user OARDarby shared some video:

The sound quality isn’t great unfortunately, but you get the idea. The studio version isn’t hard to find.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Deftones suffered a death in their own group, as bassist Chi Cheng passed away after recovering from a coma.

Kelly died from an apparent drug overdose. You can pay your respects by checking out this awesome Sprite commercial Kris Kross did in the 90s.

  • Here’s A Dope Jam Kris Kross Did For Sprite Back In The Day

Chris Kelly, half of the famous rap duo Kris Kross, which rose to fame when Kelly (The Mac Daddy) and Chris Smith (The Daddy Mac) were just kids, has died of an apparent drug overdose.

Those of us at the right age to have been listening to Kris Kross in the early 90s when hits like “Jump,” “Warm it Up,” and “I Missed the Bus” were getting steady airplay, are taking some time to reflect on the joy Kris Kross once brought to our lives. That includes memories of backwards clothing, the legendary “Make My Video” for Sega CD, and of course, dope beats and rhymes.

One of Kris Kross’ forgotten classics actually comes in the form of an ad for Sprite. After all this time, I have yet to see Sprite release a better commercial.

  • Bruins Defeat Capitals in Overtime

Chris Kelly, a former Ottawa Senator, got the game winning overtime goal and the Bruins took game one.

Despite his defeat, Braden Holtby has been getting a lot of respect for his outstanding ability to defend

Linda Cohn and Barry Melrose broke down Holtby’s performance by saying that despite the fact that he has only played about twenty professional games, he started the game strong, battled his way through, and looked very comfortable in the net.

He had 17 stops in the second period.

Unfortunately Holtby gave Kelly a little too much room on the side of the net in overtime and this is why the Capitals failed to take the game.

The Bruins lost three out of four games to the Capitals during the regular season.

Melrose played 6 NHL seasons in his career and said the Bruins’s plan finally came together in this game.

According to CBSSports.com Chris Kelly bought a new piece of jewelry — a thick, padlocked chain — that he wore around his neck after scoring the game-winning goal in Boston’s playoff opener on Thursday night. The chain is supposed to inspire players to resist becoming the weakest link.

Here is what people on Twitter think of Kelly’s symbolic chain:
