  • Jessica Simpson, Hubby Channel Christie Brinkley and Chevy Chase from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” for Halloween

Jessica Simpson, Hubby Channel Christie Brinkley and Chevy Chase from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” for Halloween

Jessica Simpson and her husband Eric Johnson channeled two throwback stars from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation as their Halloween costumes this weekend. Jessica Simpson dressed up as Christie Brinkley, and Johnson was Chevy Chase’s character from the series of movies, Clark Griswold.

Having the long blonde locks made it easy for Jessica Simpson to portray Christie Brinkley. She added a white shirt dress cinched at the waist and sky-high heels to complete the outfit. Johnson as Clark Griswold wore an outfit straight out of the 1980s–a pair of “Dad jeans,” white shoes, and a hairstyle befitting the character.

Jessica Simpson shared a photo of the pair via Instagram.

“Griswold and Brinkley #HappyHalloween ?by @kristingram,” she captioned it.

Christie Brinkley commented on the post, giving Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson her complete approval.

“christiebrinkley How cute is this? Our National Lampoon was lampooned to PERFECTION ! You guys look Hot and Hilarious !!!@jessicasimpson #happyhalloween! #nationallampoonsvacation,” she wrote.

Do you suppose Chevy Chase has caught wind of the Halloween costumes? Jessica Simpson’s rendition of Christie Brinkley was far more flattering that Eric Johnson’s of Chevy Chase. Nonetheless, the actor would surely find the humor in their get-ups.

Kudos to Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson on their cleverness and on catching the attention of Christie Brinkley.

  • Bill Murray, Brothers Inducted Into Caddie Hall of Fame

Bill Murray not only played a golf caddie in the 1980s classic Caddyshack, he was one in real life, too. On Wednesday it was Bill Murray–and not his Caddyshack character Carl Spackler–who was inducted into the Caddie Hall of Fame.

Murray and his five brothers actually worked as caddies at the Indian Hill Club course in their hometown of Winnetka, Illinois, during their younger years. Now they are all members of this elite group. Bill Murray’s brother Brian Doyle-Murray co-wrote Caddyshack, which is loosely based on their experiences at the course.

In addition to Murray, the film starred Chevy Chase, Ted Knight, Michael O’Keefe, and Rodney Dangerfield.

Bill Murray and his five brothers were inducted into the Hall of Fame after they competed in the BMW Championship pro-am at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois on Wednesday.

The Caddie Hall of Fame was created in 1999 by Dennis and Laura Cone and the Professional Caddies Assocation, but the Western Golf Assocation took it over in 2011.

Besides Bill Murray and his brothers, other inductees include Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, and Old Tom Morris.

  • Christina Applegate Talks Fear While Filming ‘Vacation’

Christina Applegate Talks Fear While Filming ‘Vacation’

Christina Applegate stars in the new film Vacation, that opens nationwide on Wednesday. She plays the wife of the original National Lampoon’s Vacation’s character Rusty–who is all grown up and married with two boys. Rusty is played by The Office’s Ed Helms.

Despite the fun of making this new movie–don’t call it a remake or a sequel, because it’s not–and enjoying the cameo appearances by the original Griswolds, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, and a trip to Wally World—-Christina Applegate admits to experiencing a great deal of fear while filming. One case in point was when she was hanging upside down on a stuck roller coaster ride.

“Hanging upside down is not something I ever need to do again. I thought that lights out were going to happen to me. I know it’s not dangerous, but it was not good for me. I didn’t enjoy that,” she said in a recent interview.

Christina Applegate is seven years out from her diagnosis of breast cancer and doing well–well enough, in fact, to engage in even more harrowing activity while filming.

Even though most of Vacation was filmed in and near Atlanta, the whole gang traveled to South Carolina for a white water rafting adventure.

“They had guys in wetsuits and rescue gear all down the thing because if you did fall out of the boat, you were gone, and you could drown,” she explains. “So there was an element of fear for me there, and when we were in that boat and the water would come and push it down, you really felt…I mean, a couple times I almost fell out.”

Did Christina Applegate grow up taking road trips like the Griswold family?

“We didn’t really do stuff like that, my mom and me. We struggled a lot, but we did go to Tijuana once in a car. That’s it. That’s all I got for you. We went to Tijuana,” she says.

Christina Applegate and Ed Helms look like the perfect couple to take a road trip with. Sons James and Kevin are played by Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins, respectfully. Applegate says they loved to make her laugh during filming.

“They made me laugh really hard. So any time we were doing scenes with them, they tickled me,” she says.

Christina Applegate also adds, “I’m a child of the ‘70s. You know what I mean? I was saying worse stuff when I was five than they were saying in this movie.”

Will you be checking out Christina Applegate and Ed Helms in Vacation?

  • Ed Helms, Christina Applegate to in ‘Vacation’ Trailer

Ed Helms of The Office fame and Christina Applegate star as a grownup Rusty Griswold and his wife (son and daughter-in-law of Clark Griswold as played by Chevy Chase in the National Lampoon Vacation films) in a reboot of Vacation.

Rusty and his wife are en route to Walley World–just like in the original film–when they stop to visit his sister Audrey. Leslie Mann plays the new Audrey, and Chris Hemsworth plays her husband. Hemsworth appears in a pair of nicely stuffed boxer briefs.

Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo–Rusty and Audrey’s parents in the original Vacation, appear in the new film, too.

Ed Helms and the rest of the cast engage multiple expletives in Vacation, and Ed Helms and Chevy Chase have an uncomfortable (but funny) father-son conversation. There is even a very flirtatious highway moment. Fans are urged to recall Christie Brinkley in the red Ferrari in the original film.

Will you be checking out Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, and Chris Hemsworth’s boxer briefs in the reboot of Vacation? It is set to hit theaters this summer on July 29th.

  • Scarlett Johansson Will Host ‘Saturday Night Live’ on May 2nd, Heading Toward Five-Timers Club

Scarlett Johansson is hosting Saturday Night Live on May 2nd. This will be the fourth time hosting SNL for the Avengers: Age of Ultron star, and this gig falls on the day after the film hits theaters.

It was announced during this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, which was hosted by Empire star Taraji P. Henson, that Scarlett Johansson was on deck for the May 2nd episode. No musical guest has yet been announced.

In light of when she is serving as host, could this mean that Scarlett Johansson might break out her Black Widow costume for at least one of the evening’s sketches? It would seem more than likely.

Scarlett Johansson will need to host only one more time after May 2nd in order to become a member of SNL’s coveted five-timers club. So far only 15 people have been ‘inducted’ into the group. They are Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin, Drew Barrymore, Candice Bergen, Chevy Chase, Danny DeVito, John Goodman, Elliot Gould, Tom Hanks, Buck Henry, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Paul Simon, Justin Timberlake, and Christopher Walken. The club was first mentioned on Saturday Night Live back in 1990 when Tom Hanks was making his fifth appearance on the show.

Scarlett Johansson last hosted SNL in 2010. Hopefully it won’t be another five years from May 2nd before she becomes a member of the five-timers club.

Will you be checking out Scarlett Johansson when Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1st? And will you be tuning in the next night to catch her as she hosts SNL–for the fourth time?

  • Chevy Chase: Pisses Too Many People Off?

Chevy Chase: Pisses Too Many People Off?

When Chevy Chase stepped on stage at the SNL 40th Anniversary special, it seemed like one more missed opportunity for the SNL folks. There was a rash of underused talent, leaving a handful of people to carry the whole show.

But the SNL special gave people an opportunity to reflect on where some of these great SNL stars have been since they left the show. Bill Murray is riding a high wave of success. He and Chevy Chase were once rivals. But Chevy was supposed to be SNL‘s Golden Boy.

He was Chevy Chase, and you’re not. So, why is Chevy Chase not bigger than he is now? Some are saying it is because Chevy Chase is not a very likable person.

“The ugly truth is that a lot of people don’t love Chevy Chase,” Entertainment Weekly reported. “They don’t even like him. … This isn’t really surprising, because apparently the man possesses a truly spectacular talent for pissing people off.”

Bill Murray himself added to the diagnosis, saying of Chevy Chase, “When you become famous, you’ve got like a year or two where you act like a real a–hole. You can’t help yourself. It happens to everybody. You’ve got like two years to pull it together — or it’s permanent.”

Apparently Chevy Chase is a pro at delivering a stinging putdown. This does not always go over well, even in the early days.

“My first impression of Chevy was that he was really good-looking, but kind of mean,” Laraine Newman once said. “He teased in the way that a big brother would, [aiming for] exactly what would hurt your feelings the most. I say this as someone who loves him. And loves him a lot.”

What does Chevy Chase himself say about all this?

“In this business you can come and go in a second. I could be flushed out tomorrow with a big smile and a handshake,” he once acknowledged.

Later he admitted, “Nobody prepares you for what happens when you get famous, and I didn’t handle it well. I was young, new, hot star and I had this unbelievable arrogance. As time went on, the strident narcissism and arrogance slowly diminished. But I was definitely there. I’m older now. And a big crybaby.”

  • Gilda Radner, John Belushi Remembered by Original SNL Stars

Gilda Radner and John Belushi were two of the original Saturday Night Live stars, but sadly, they both tragically died far too young and at the height of their careers.

Gilda Radner broke hearts, including her husband and the original Willy Wonka, Gene Wilder, when she died of ovarian cancer in 1989, at the age of 42. She won an Emmy for her SNL work and was hilarious portraying her most famous character, Rosanne Rosannadana.

As for John Belushi, who may be best-known for his work as one of the Blues Brothers, he died of an accidental overdose in 1982, at the age of 33.

People magazine took some time to interview several of their former SNL cast mates prior to the 40th Anniversary Show scheduled for tonight on NBC.

Chevy Chase of the famed Vacation films said it is easy to look back and remember both of them with great fondness.

“It’s not hard looking back,” said Chevy Chase. “It would only be hard if I tried to forget them. I loved these people and it was unfortunate how they died but they were wonderful. John was like up to my shoulder but a brick, strong fella, but he had his issues, as you know. Gilda always had a pocketbook filled with candy. That’s all she ate, she loved it. She was loved by many. I think about the loss of Gilda and particularly the loss of John and think, that’s it, you’re never going to find them again, anything like them.”

Laraine Newman shared one particular member of Gilda Radner that seems to perfectly capture the personality of her friend.

“One time during a rehearsal in Louisiana, Gilda and I were left in a room somewhere for four hours,” said Lorraine Newman. “No food or water, no bathroom. No way to communicate. Remember, cell phones hadn’t been invented yet. But, Gilda being Gilda, made it a party. The room had one of those little metal trash cans with a lid and foot pedal that lifted it. This became Gilda’s puppet and I interviewed it. And, for 4 hours, we howled. She was such a dear friend.”

Fellow funny lady Jane Curtin had her own memories to share.

“We were all siblings. Let’s put it that way,” said Curtin. “And we were all very protective of each other. [Executive producer] Lorne [Michaels] and I, we didn’t blend well. We were like oil and water. So we would communicate through Gilda. One time he wanted me to rip my shirt open during Weekend Update, but he was scared to ask me. Gilda came to me and she said, ‘Lorne wants to ask you something but he’s too afraid.’ Losing John and Gilda was sad, but it’s not just them. We’ve lost many. Some of the memories are lovely, some are sad, some are funny. But you keep going back.”

  • Beverly D’Angelo Reuniting With Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo will be reuniting once again as husband and wife on a new ABC series starting in 2015.

While the series currently lacks a title, script or studio, ABC has confirmed that they have committed to the show’s executive producer Aaron Kaplan.

The series will follow Chase and D’Angelo, who will portray a couple in their 60s. After finally reaching retirement and enjoying life, the couple is forced to raise their two grandchildren.

Chase and D’Angelo have long been known for their roles on the National Lampoon vacation movies, and are excited to get to work together again.

Appearing on the new ABC show will mark the first time that Chase has been on television since leaving, during the fourth season, his role on Community in 2012. It was reported that Chase made the decision to leave after having an outburst on the set.

Kaplan expressed his excitement for the new show via Twitter. “Chevy Chase & Beverly D’Angelo, the greatest couple in movie history, are doing a television show with me at @ABCNetwork! I can’t wait!!” he tweeted.

  • Beverly D’Angelo To Work With Chevy Chase On Comedy Project

Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase became a part of pop culture forever when they started the “Vacation” series; as Ellen and “Sparky”, they kept us laughing for years with their doomed journeys and dysfunctional family members. Now, the actors are getting ready to reunite for a project on ABC that will see them playing a married couple once again.

Deadline is reporting that the show–which doesn’t have a writer attached to it yet–tells the story of a couple enjoying their 60’s together when they are suddenly forced to raise their grandchildren.

The duo are reportedly also attached to a reboot of the original “Vacation”, which is set to star Ed Helms as Rusty and Christina Applegate as his wife, although the project has been delayed due to a reported friction between the film’s developers about whether it should receive a PG-13 or R rating.

The ABC project will mark Chase’s return to television after his abrupt departure from “Community”, which involved quite a bit of drama after an on-set outburst.

“When I would try [to get him to talk], he would just try to fight me,” Joel McHale told Howard Stern, saying the actor just didn’t want to be there. “He physically wanted to fight me.”

The unnamed project is tentatively set for the 2015-2016 season.

  • Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase Reuniting on ABC

Everyone’s favorite Christmas Vacationers, Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase, are reuniting for an ABC sitcom in 2015. The family-comedy series is hoping to premiere during the 2015-2016 viewing season, but many major details have yet to be worked out.

Executive Producer Aaron Kaplan first pitched his idea for the show to D’Angelo, who quickly agreed, and persuaded Chase to do the same. It will center around an aging couple in their 60’s who are forced into raising their grandchildren, much to their dismay.

Kaplan is a production vet, already acting as executive producer for ABC’s The Neighbors, now in its’ second season, as well as another new series for the network, Secrets and Lies.

Currently, the D’Angelo/Chase reunion comedy does not have a script, writer, or production studio, but has already concluded a lengthy deal-making process between ABC and the series’ stars.

The series will be the first television role for Chase since he left NBC’s Community in the middle of its fourth season last year, due to conflicts with his co-stars on the show, specifically, The Soup‘s Joel McHale.

A Christmas Vacation reprise from New Line Cinema was rumored to be in the works last March, which was to include both D’Angelo and Chase, as well as Ed Helms and Christina Applegate. However, due to undisclosed reasons, that project has been put on hold.

  • Chevy Chase Reunited with ‘Vacation’ Co-star

The Griswold’s are back! Well, the actors who played the Griswold’s are back together.

Chevy Chase and Vacation co-star Beverly D’Angelo are reuniting in a project ABC is developing for the 2015-2016 TV season.

The deal which is being developed by executive producer Aaron Kaplan has been completed but a writer, studio and script are still being hashed out. The pilot is based on an idea by Kaplan about a pair of 60-something grandparents forced to raise their grandchildren.

The former SNL comedian’s most recent stunt on prime time was in the NBC series Community, which he left in the fourth season. Last year, he reprised his role as Pierce Hawthorne in the show’s season opener in a surprise cameo.

D’Angelo is known for her role as tough agent Barbara Miller in the HBO acclaimed series Entourage and for her incredible portrayal as Patsy Cline in Coal Miner’s Daughter in which she did her own singing.

Chase and D’Angelo played Clark and Ellen Griswold in the highly successful Vacation Franchise which included National Lampoon’s Vacation, followed by the sequels, European Vacation, Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation.

Chase and D’Angelo have been in talks to reprise their roles as the Griswold’s in an updated version of Vacation starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate.

The old pals starred in a 2010 Superbowl Commercial called ‘Hotel Hell Vacation’, a short re-make of Vacation.

  • Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo To Star In ‘Vacation’ Spin-Off

The ABC television network has announced that National Lampoon’s Vacation stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo will be reprising their famous roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold.

According to the Huffington Post, the network is developing a new comedic sitcom as a spin-off to the famous Vacation film franchise. Aaron Kaplan will serve as executive producer for the sitcom. No writers or film studios have been assigned to the project, so there is currently no script or plot as of yet. However, the overall concept of the show has been released.

The new series will center around the Griswold couple, now in their 60s. But, this won’t be a story of some older couple enjoying retirement. They’re now faced with the challenge of raising their grandchildren.

Entertainment Weekly reports that although the show doesn’t have a name, the network is aiming to air the pilot sometime during the 2015-2016 television season. The network’s announcement actually confirms speculation that has been in the air for quite some time. Last year, Variety reported Chase and D’Angelo were considering a reprise their famous roles in a possible Vacation reboot.

The on-screen couple also appeared in a number of Old Navy commercials along with some of the original Vacation cast members. The commercial concepts were partially accredited for the speculation of the reboot.

The show will be Chase’s first return to primetime TV since his stint on NBC’s Community. He appeared on the show for four seasons before departing in 2012. However, D’Angelo will appear in CBS’ upcoming series Friends With Better Lives.

Chase and D’Angelo starred in every Vacation installment, with the first debuting in 1983. Due to the success of the film, European Vacation, Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation were released over the next 15 years.

  • Chevy Chase To Reunite With Beverly D’Angelo In ABC Comedy

After getting a shot at prime-time television once already with NBC’s Community, Chevy Chase looks to make a second attempt with his new comedy.

Beverly D’Angelo was most recently seen in Entourage as agent Barbara Miller, who was constantly feuding with Jeremy Piven’s character.

The project should intrigue viewers who were fans of the National Lampoon’s Vacation films since it will reunite him with Beverly D’Angelo, who played his wife for each of the wacky family adventure films.

It will be the first time that the two of them will have been seen on screen together since Vegas Vacation came out in 1997.

Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo played Clark and Ellen Griswold and four films that gave them huge popularity, including Christmas Vacation, which many people still watch around Christmas time.

The show is still in the early stages of development, with no writer, script or studio currently attached. With the way things are going right now, the show is not likely to air until the 2015-2016 season.

Chevy Chase is in talks with D’Angelo for a reboot of the Vacation films for the big screen as well. However, with all of the years that have past since their last film, they may have to shake up the family dynamic a bit, and play grandparents in the film.

Luckily, their kids were already played by different actors in each of the other films, and picking the same kids again will not be a problem. Clark Griswold even remarked to the kids in the final film about how he hardly recognized them anymore, a reference to how they keep changing actors.

The two veteran actors have booked a pilot along with the help of producer Aaron Kaplan, with the pilot being based on his idea. The show will feature a plot about a pair of 60-something grandparents who are forced to raise their grandchildren.

Chevy Chase’s comeback to television could be an exciting one, especially with the help of Beverly D’Angelo, who has plenty of experience playing his wife on the screen.
