  • Shirley Bassey Criticizes Beyonce’s Skimpy Outfit At Met Gala

Beyonce might have had people fawning over the barely-there gown she wore at the Met Gala, but Dame Shirley Bassey is not impressed.

But it’s not just Jay-Z’s better half who earned the ire of the legendary singer, it’s every single diva today who seems to be more focused on showing off their skin than their talent.

The “Diamonds are Forever” singer was in London recently for the Shooting Star book launching and took the opportunity to advise younger singers to choose more modest outfits and leave the provocative stuff on the stage.

To say that the James Bond hit maker was shocked would be an understatement.

“When I saw the Met Ball the other night – and Beyonce’s gown – I was like, “Excuse me?”

She was undoubtedly talking about the infamous sheer dress that the “Beautiful Liar” singer wore. Viewers could clearly see that Beyonce ditched her underwear and just relied on some cleverly clustered jewels to protect what little was left of her modesty.

And after being inundated with other sheer dresses from the likes of Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez, it’s no wonder the 78-year-old commented that “it’s like they’re all in competition with each other for who can wear the skimpiest outfit.”

“In my day it was for the stage only, you didn’t go out looking like that,” she added.

While she admits that some of her own dresses during her shows were considered risqué, she also “left a lot to the imagination. I didn’t show everything.”

Bassey added her voice to the growing number of people who are speaking out against this trend of celebrities trying to out-skimp each other, saying that it gives a bad impression for young people.

And instead of going down the X-rated way, Bassey wants talented female singers to “go in the studio and sing your heart out. Get a vocal coach and strengthen your vocal chords.”

  • Kris Jenner’s “Table Cloth” Dress: Hit Or Miss?

Okay, am I the only person not offended by Kris Jenner’s red dress?

Some are mocking the look, calling it a red carpet faux pas and saying that she looks as though she’s wearing a big red table cloth.

    Ouch!

Maybe a belt would have helped the Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s star better define her figure, but one has to admit that the 58-year-old reality TV celebrity’s outfit is at least tasteful and modest.

As a matter of fact, that may have been the entire point to the red dress, following a “wardrobe malfunction” that occurred during Fashion Week.

Jenner was out and about with daughter Kendall Jenner, wearing a stylish gold mini-dress.

It was clear that the reality star wanted to show off her legs, but in one paparazzi picture, it turned out that she showed off a bit more than that.

She was photographed hugging Miley Cyrus’s mother Tish, and showing off a bit more skin than probably intended.

While it wasn’t a Britney Spears-esque flash, it’s safe to say one can see a bit more of Jenner than they probably planned to in this life, or ever wanted to.

Following the fallout from the pic, can you blame Jenner for trying to keep it classy a few days later?

    Hardly not.

Jenner has been quite busy recently. In addition to attending the Brent Shapiro Foundation’s annual summer gala, she was also highly visible during New York Fashion Week.

Daughter Kendall Jenner got to walk in a few high profile shows. Mama Jenner was right there to watch Kendall work her stuff and exclaim how proud she is of her young daughter.

Well, at least Mama Jenner was allowed to be there to represent the Kardashian clan.

Big sister Kim Kardashian was pretty much told to make herself scarce by her 18-year-old model sister.

  • Mick Jagger’s Fashion Designer Girlfriend, L’Wren Scott, Found Dead

L’Wren Scott, fashion designer and girlfriend of Mick Jagger, was found dead in her Manhattan, New York apartment Monday around 10 a.m.

Investigators say she hanged herself and did not leave a suicide note. They also concluded that there were no signs of foul play.

Reports say that Scott sent a message to her assistant to come over and that’s when her body was discovered.

Police have filed it as a suicide until further details are provided by an autopsy.

In a 2009 Q&A interview with The Daily Beast, Scott shared some interesting facts about herself.

The 6 ft. 4 in. former model was adopted and raised as a Mormon in Utah. She was born as Luann Bambrough, but changed her name in 1985 once she turned 18.

The same year, she decided to make her way to Paris to pursue her fashion career. (image)

Scott previously modeled for clothing designer Chanel and worked in PR for Prada. The fashionista was also a wardrobe stylist for American photographer Herb Ritts and actresses like Nicole Kidman.

When referring to the Oscar dress she designed for Kidman in 2009, Scott was reported saying how “fun” it was to work on the project:

Nicole called me and told me she loved this dress I designed last spring, but wanted to add some couture details. I don’t mind making couture dresses for private clients. I love to create a single dress with amazing embroidery or fabric—and they always seem to find a good home! I do a lot of special orders for people. I find it fun.

The stylist’s personal love life with Jagger, 70, seemed to be a success as well.

The pair first met in 2001 at a photo shoot and have been together ever since.

In 2006, Scott finally launched her fashion label and immediately became a household name for many celebrities.

Sources say that Jagger adored his girlfriend’s style and even helped her get her line started.

    Scott was recalled saying:

Mick loves what I wear, and always has something to say about it! Look at the way he dresses! I don’t think there’s a more fashion-conscious man in the world.

Scott was only 49 years old.

  • Little Black Dress Not the Only One Deserving of Reprise

For years the little black dress – fondly known as the LBD – has been a fashion stand-by.

The dress was immortalized by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. That form-fitting black Givenchy gown sold at Christie’s in London in 2006 for 410,000 pounds, the equivalent of about $807,000 at the time.

Years after Holly Golightly wore the little black dress so elegantly, it’s still considered a fashion icon, not to mention a go-to for a wide range of occasions.

Boy band One Direction even titled a song on their recent Midnight Memories album “Little Black Dress.”

German fashion designer, artist, and photographer Karl Lagerfeld, head designer and creative director for Chanel is often quoted as saying that “One is never overdressed or underdressed with a little black dress.”

The little black dress is a top choice at the holidays when women pull it out for seasonal cocktail parties.

Retailers capitalize on the dress’s fame in marketing campaigns.

Even celebrities turn to the little black dress:

But Keira Knightley created a stir earlier this week when she showed up at the SeriousFun charity gala in London wearing a dress that looked a lot like her wedding gown.

If it was indeed her wedding dress, it will be at least the third time Knightley has worn the Chanel couture blush pink gown. She paired the same dress with black tights and pumps at an event back in 2008.

Coco Chanel herself was known to emphasize the importance of being true to oneself when making fashion decisions.

Knightley may have been doing just that she when flouted Hollywood tradition and chose a gown she’d previously worn for her wedding dress, then appeared in the same number again a few months later.

Could Knightley and other fashion trend-setters make it acceptable to wear a dress more than once, even if it’s not the LBD?
