  • Cedar Point Closed Due To Water Main Break

Cedar Park will be closed on Sunday, June 8 due to a water main break.

The park and several nearby resorts including Hotel Breakers, Sandcastle Suites and Lighthouse Point were all closed on Saturday and will also be closed on Sunday.

The water main provides the water supply to Cedar Point and broke early Saturday morning, causing the park to close.

Crews from the city of Sandusky have been working on the main, but the repairs are not yet complete.

“The latest assessment is that the necessary repairs will require several more hours to complete” to restore water service, Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards said in a statement released Saturday evening

“Once the water main is repaired, there are additional procedures that must be taken to restore water pressure to all areas on the property, and testing that must follow to ensure the systems are working properly and the appropriate water quality is established.”

The park plans to open up again on Monday as long as there are no complications and the repairs are completed by that time.

Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark Resort and Breakers Express remained opened Saturday and will also be open on Sunday. Cedar Point ticket holders can also use their tickets for other Cedar Fairs parks if desired.

All Cedar Point tickets will be honored on any operating day in 2014 and guests who had reservations at any Cedar Point resorts can call the resort and have their reservations changed to a different date.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has advised travelers to avoid the area because of traffic jams. Many people are leaving after learning that the park will be closed and the Cedar Point causeway is heavily congested.

  • Water Ride Accident Second To Occur Over Weekend

The water ride accident that injured seven at Cedar Point over the weekend was the second amusement park incident to happen on Friday. The other, at Six Flags Texas, left one woman dead and several passengers hysterical.

The Cedar Point accident happened when a boat on Shoot The Rapids began to slide backwards down the first incline on the ride and then flipped over, injuring seven people and sending one to the hospital. Because all the passengers were belted in, they were trapped until several onlookers and park employees jumped into the water to free them.

“We jumped in and helped them get out,” witness Matthew Orr told the Sandusky Register newspaper. “If we didn’t help, I don’t even know what would have happened.”

Park officials are investigating what made the ride malfunction.

Meanwhile, in Texas, visitors to the Six Flags in Dallas were shocked and horrified when a woman plunged to her death from the Texas Giant roller coaster. Witnesses say they believe the victim–identified over the weekend as Rosy Esparza–wasn’t properly strapped in to her seat and expressed concern to the park attendant that the restraints weren’t done correctly.

“He was basically nonchalant,” Carmen Brown, who was in line as Esparza was being strapped in, said. “He was, like, ‘As long as you heard it click, you’re fine.’ Hers was the only one that went down once, and she didn’t feel safe. But they let her still get on the ride.”

Six Flags is conducting an investigation into the death.

Cedar Point Accident: 7 People Injured

Cedar Point prides itself in being the “Best Amusement Park in the World”. However, a Cedar Point amusement park ride malfunctioned on Friday, injuring seven people.

It is reported that the boat, carrying seven passengers, was making it’s way up the first hill when the boat began rolling backwards and then continued to flip over on the water ride, Shoot the Rapids. Although not confirmed, the boat is said to have flipped on it’s side and then all the way over. The passengers were all belted in, and were not able to get out on their own. Upon seeing the accident, ride operators, park police, and visitors jumped into the water to help them.

Another visitor to the Ohio amusement park, Mathew Orr, witnessed the accident. “We jumped in and helped them get out,” he told the Sandusky Register newspaper. “If we didn’t help, I don’t even know what would have happened.”

All seven people who were on the ride suffered minor injuries. Six of the seven were treated while at the amusement park, and the other was taken to a nearby hospital.

The ride operators stopped the ride after the incident happened on Friday. Cedar Point officials are investigating into the reason that the ride malfunctioned. The officials have stated that the ride will remain closed until the investigation is complete. “The safety of our guests is our number one priority,” Cedar Point announced in a statement.
