  • Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2 Is Already Getting DLC

When it released in late February, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 had critics split. Some thought it was a worthy successor to Mercury Steam’s original game while other felt it was much worse. Despite its mixed critical reception, Konami is already betting that gamers want some DLC.

Konami and Mercury Steam announced today that Lords of Shadow 2 will get a DLC expansion called “Revelations” on March 25. The game will put players into the role of Alucard in a story that takes place before the events of Lords of Shadow 2.

Alucard, the turned son of Gabriel, has shunned human life for many years, choosing to hunt only creatures of the night. The DLC takes place just before the apocalyptic events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, where Alucard readies for his father’s return and the forthcoming battle against Satan. As the plot unfolds, it begins to reveal how the lone vampire is inextricably linked to his father’s fate.

Unless you’re really invested in the story, the real attraction here appears to be playing around with new abilities. Alucard uses glaciem and igneas magic alongside new transformations, including a wolf and a swarm of bats. He can even turn back time.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is currently available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The Revelations DLC expansion will be out on March 25.

  • Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2 Gets One Last Trailer

February has been an absolutely bonkers month for game releases. March isn’t looking any slower with major releases like Titanfall, Dark Souls II and South Park: The Stick Of Truth. Before you start counting your money to make sure you have enough cash for the games of March, Konami would like to remind you of one last game left in February.

To help jog your memory, Konami has released a launch trailer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 that gives us one last look at the sequel that wraps up the Lords of Shadow trilogy once and for all. There’s a lot of footage here that we’ve already seen mixed with some new footage of characters and bosses that we haven’t seen yet.

One of the more intriguing parts of the trailer is that it implies Dracula takes his name quite literally and turns into a dragon. It’s unknown if this is a special screen clearing attack, or if it’s a cutscene during a boss fight. Either way, it’s pretty cool.

  • Here’s A Combo Heavy Lords Of Shadow 2 Trailer

You could easily argue that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow had simplistic combat. Sure, there was a combo system in place, but it really couldn’t compete with the likes of God of War or Devil May Cry. With Lords of Shadow 2, it looks like the team is stepping up its game with a variety of weapons that can be switched on the fly for custom combos.

In the latest trailer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, we’re treated to a look at the Void Sword weapon. Compared to Gabriel’s combat cross, the void sword doesn’t have much of a reach. It makes up for this, however, through its ability to steal the life force of all those it comes into contact with.

Beyond the void swords specific ability, we’re also treated to a look at a number of combat combos in the game. While there hasn’t been anything specific said about the combo system, it looks like Lords of Shadow 2 will be putting a greater emphasis on keeping a combo chain going.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be out on February 25 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

  • Here’s Some More Lords Of Shadow 2 Gameplay

When it comes to game trailers, nothing beats direct feed gameplay. Sure, developer diaries are nice and all, but they rarely give us a look at how the game actually plays. That’s why it’s a relief that the guys over at Mercury Steam are finally sharing a new gameplay trailer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

In the latest trailer for Lords of Shadow 2, we’re treated to nine minutes of gameplay featuring Gabriel Belmont’s run in with the Toy Maker. The Toy Maker was one of the antagonists in Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, but players never actually got to fight him. That all changes in Lords of Shadow 2.

If you want to avoid spoilers, you might not want to watch the gameplay trailer below. If you don’t mind spoilers, you’ll be able to see a section of story and a rather impressive boss fight. Check it out:

  • Here’s A Look At The World Of Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is going to be very different from the first title in the trilogy. Just looking at gameplay videos wouldn’t tell you that, however, as it still retains the same combat and dark gothic themes as the original game. Where it truly differentiates itself is in the world and exploration.

In a new trailer for Lords of Shadow 2, the development team goes into detail on how they built the open world that players can freely explore in the sequel. After hearing from players that they wanted exploration back, the team built a modern city around Dracula’s castle that could be freely explored. Like in the past games, players are encouraged to return to previous areas with new equipment to find new items that were previously unobtainable.

As for the world design itself, the developers at Mercury Steam took inspiration from their home country of Spain. They note that they live in the middle of castle country and had plenty of architectural design to pull from when building their modern, gothic city.

  • Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2 Has An Ensemble Cast

In the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, there weren’t a lot of characters for players to keep track of. The story mostly followed the quest of Gabriel Belmont and his mentor Zobek. For the sequel, the cast has been significantly expanded.

In the latest trailer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Konami reveals all the characters that will play a role in its conclusion to the Lords of Shadow trilogy. Obviously, Gabriel and Zobek are back with the latter being played by Patrick Stewart once again.

As for new characters, Alucard, Trevor and Victor will all make an appearance in this latest game. Alucard and Trevor were playable characters in Mirror of Fate with Simon being the only true new addition to the Lords of Shadow franchise. It’s hard to say how the writers are going to keep this many Belmonts sorted out, but it should be manageable as long as they don’t try to shoehorn Soma into it somehow.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be released on February 25 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

  • Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2 Dev Diary Discusses Dracula’s Origins

Gamers increasingly want to know what’s going on behind the scenes of their favorite games. While the development diary may have once been on an extra disc for a special edition, publishers are now releasing them before the game comes out to drum up excitement. Now Konami is jumping on the dev diary bandwagon for its latest Castlevania title.

Konami and MercurySteam released the first dev diary for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 today. This particular dev diary focuses on what the team wants to do with the character of Dracula in this game. Since players will be playing as Dracula this time around, the team wanted to make players empathize with him while still holding him at arm’s length.

If you want to check out Lords of Shadow 2 for yourself, the demo is currently available as a bonus for purchasing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD on PSN or XBLA. If you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll want to check out Mirror of Fate anyway as it details the events between the first Lords of Shadow and its upcoming sequel.
