Yelp Yanks Carly Fiorina’s TSA Review

Yelp is a place where people can go to bitch about restaurants, local businesses, and more. This week, Yelp became a place where people can go bitch about the government.

Yelp recently announced that it had partnered up with the federal government to let federal agencies and offices claim their Yelp pages, read, and respond to their reviews.

“We encourage Yelpers to review any of the thousands of agency field offices, TSA checkpoints, national parks, Social Security Administration offices, landmarks and other places already listed on Yelp if you have good or bad feedback to share about your experiences,” said Yelp’s Laurent Crenshaw.

“It’s clear Washington is eager to engage with people directly through social media,” she added.

Well, it appears those looking to make it to Washington are also eager to engage.

Republican Presidential hopeful and former HP head Carly Fiorina took the opportuntiy to review the TSA.

I’ll give you three guesses as to her rating, but you’ll only need one.

But if you check the page, the review is no longer there. What happened?

Well, the likely culprit is that “Join us: carlyforpresident.com” plug. As Daily Dot notes, Yelp strictly prohibits that sort of self-promotion from regular users.

“[Users are not allowed to] promote a business or other commercial venture or event, or otherwise use the Site for commercial purposes, except in connection with a Business Account and as expressly permitted by Yelp,” read the site’s terms.

Guess we’ll have to wait for the second review.

  • Hillary Clinton Is Getting Domain Trolled Too

    Head on over to HillaryClinton.net.

    Oops – that’s not Hillary.

The frontrunning Democratic candidate for President is the latest to fall victim to some domain trolling. Hillary Clinton has HillaryClinton.com on lockdown, but her name dot net redirects to GOP hopeful Carly Fiorina’s campaign page.

    From BuzzFeed:

No one in the press seems to have noticed that Clinton failed to secure one of her own eponymous domain names. It’s unclear when HillaryClinton.net began redirecting to Fiorina’s campaign site — but the URL has been the stage of a conservative squat protest for some time now. According to the Way Back Machine internet archive, the site was prompting visitors to donate to the political action committee for Sen. Ted Cruz in January 2014.

And Fiorina’s team says they have nothing to do with this. I doubt they’re upset about it, however.

Clinton is just another candidate in a long line of those getting domain trolled. Ted Cruz didn’t lock up TedCruz.com, and now he’s getting trolled.

Carly Fiorina didn’t lock up CarlyFiorina.org, and now she’s getting trolled.

Rand Paul had to waste over $100,000 to secure RandPaul.com.

And I’m sure Rick Santorum (who hasn’t officially entered the race yet) isn’t too thrilled about what happens when you head to santorum.com.

We’ll continues to cover candidates getting domain trolled, as it’s not only funny but appears to be an actual element in the race at this painfully early stage.

  • Carly Fiorina Forgot to Register CarlyFiorina.org, and Now She’s Getting Trolled

“Yes, I am running,” said former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina this morning on Good Morning America.” “I think I’m the best person for the job because I understand how the economy actually works. I understand the world; who’s in it.”

Apparently, one of those people in the world is a little upset at Fiorina’s managerial maneuvers.

Here’s what you’ll see if you head to carlyfiorina.org:

…and after a lot of scrolling:

If you’re running for president, it seems like one of the items on the ol’ checklist would have to be making sure all your domains were yours. Of course, you can’t safeguard against all domain squatters – but the big ones (your name.com, your name.org, etc) seem like a necessity.

    Luckily, carlyfiorina.com is hers.

Fiorina is not the only Republican presidential candidate to have some domain problems. Ted Cruz didn’t lock up TedCruz.com, and now he’s getting trolled.

  • Carly Fiorina Expected to Declare Candidacy for Republican Presidential Nomination

Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, is expected to declare her candidacy on Monday for the Republican presidential nomination. NPR reports she will likely do so via video.

Fiorina served as a surrogate in John McCain’s 2008 Presidential campaign, and in 2010 she ran for the U.S. Senate from California, losing out, however, to Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer. The first woman to ever lead a Fortune 500 company, Carly Fiorina was ousted from Hewlett-Packard following a boardroom fiasco back in 2005.

A few noteworthy things possible supporters of Carly Fiorina might not know include the fact that she dropped out of law school. She claimed law school gave her ‘blinding headaches.’ She does have a graduate business degrees from Maryland and MIT and an undergraduate degree from Stanford.

Carly Fiorina is a cancer survivor. Diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2009, she underwent a double mastectomy, and feels like she’s part of a ‘sisterhood’ of other breast cancer survivors.

Probably one of the most bizarre things about Carly Fiorina came to be known as her ‘demon sheep ad.’ When she ran for the U.S. Senate in 2010, she believed her opponent, Tom Campbell, wasn’t a true conservative, and deemed him a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing.’ The ad featured a flock of sheep, however one had red, demonic eyes.

Will Carly Fiorina stand a shot a winning the Republican presidential nomination? And if she does, will she stand a chance against Hillary Clinton–if she takes the Democratic nomination?

Is Carly Fiorina one of the names you expected to hear as a Republican contender? Or is this one of those shots that came completely out of left–well, actually right–field?

  • Carly Fiorina: Mourdock’s Rape Comment Was “Stupid”

Carly Fiorina: Mourdock’s Rape Comment Was “Stupid”

Things got heated pretty quickly on Sunday’s episode of “Meet the Press”, which featured Rachel Maddow, Carly Fiorina, John Hickenlooper, and David Brooks, among others. The topics were varied, but the guests mostly wanted to talk about a few key facts from the respective campaigns of Mitt Romney and President Obama, as well as some of the more emotionally-charged statements which have come from their supporters.

When former CEO of Hewlett-Packard–and vice chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee–Carly Fiorina was asked to give her opinion on the recent remarks made by Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock about rape, she was quick to defend Mitt Romney on the matter and called out Mourdock for what she called a stupid statement.

“Well, first of all, talk about bad timing for Mitt Romney’s endorsement. Richard Mourdock said a really stupid thing and he apologized and Governor Romney’s position on life is identical to Richard Mourdock’s Democratic opponent. In other words, in that state, there are two pro-life candidates running, Richard Mourdock is clearly more extreme and I agree, I think, most people disagree with him. But here’s the reason why Governor Romney is gaining among women right now. He’s gaining among women. And that’s because women care about the economy. Women care about the role of government. Women care about their children’s education. Women care about their health care. And more women are living in poverty under this president that in anytime in decades, that’s why Governor Romney is winning with women,” she said.

Mourdock had said that “I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen”, which incensed many and could negatively impact his political career. Several recent remarks about rape made by male political figures has led to comedienne Tina Fey commenting on their poor choice of words.

“I wish we could have an honest and respectful dialogue about these complicated issues, but it seems like we can’t right now,” said Fey. “And if I have to listen to one more gray-faced man with a $2 haircut explain to me what rape is, I’m going to lose my mind.”
