  • Scarlett Johansson, As Black Widow, Battles Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye In ‘Captain America’ Sneak Peek

Scarlett Johansson joined Captain America costars Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans for a surprise event at D23 in California over the weekend.

During the event, Disney and Marvel announced several new projects and shared clips from next year’s Captain America: Civil War, including a kick-ass sequence of Scarlett Johansson, who portrays Black Widow, battling Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner.

The clip has yet to be released but the footage shows an apparent fight between Black Widow and Hawkeye. The twosome are generally allies, so who knows why they are suddenly beating the crap out of each other.

According to Forbes reporter Mark Hughes, the footage shared on Saturday offered fans a first glimpse of new villain Crossbones, as reported by The Inquisitr.

“The footage begins with the Captain America, Falcon, and Black Widow in position for a battle, surveying a busy city street. Falcon deploys a flying drone that swoops down into traffic and up under a large vehicle. The truck’s occupants are Crossbones and his crew, and a large battle commences between these villains and Cap’s team. While Captain America fights Crossbones, Falcon and Black Widow take down the rest of the criminals.

“We see lots of damage done to the surrounding street and buildings, and Cap’s shield ends up with a bomb attached to it, so he throws it just before the bomb explodes. Crossbones finally falls, defeated, and removes his mask. He mentions Bucky Barnes — aka the Winter Soldier, whom Cap has been trying to track down — and Captain America seems shocked.”

Scarlett Johansson, who never really wanted to go the superhero route, has said that she loves playing Black Widow because the character is so complex.

“I really enjoy playing this character. She was really the first female superhero, a reluctant one. She’s never really been able to forge close relationships with anybody. She’s a lone wolf,” Scarlett Johansson told Parade magazine.

Captain America: Civil War is due in theaters May 6, 2016.

  • Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Hiddleston: ‘Avengers’ Co-Stars Go Public With Romance

Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston are no longer hiding their romance from the paparazzi. The Avengers co-stars were spotted out and about, attending theater productions and looking very comfortable with one another.

It was just this past January that Elizabeth Olsen called off her engagement to Boyd Holbrook. She and Tom Hiddleston have been a rumored couple for about two months.

The younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who recently made news for not signing on to the upcoming Netflix Full House reboot–Fuller House–Elizabeth Olsen has made quite a name for herself in the acting world. She has portrayed Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and 2016’s upcoming Captain America: Civil War.

Elizabeth Olsen and her beau recently wrapped filming a movie together. They play country legend Hank Williams and his wife, Audrey Mae Williams in I Saw the Light. Tom Hiddleston recently played Loki in The Avengers (2012), Thor: The Dark World (2013), and will reprise his role in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.

It seems Olsen and Hiddleston aren’t completely committed to one another, but have definitely grown closer over the past couple of months.

A source says things are progressing nicely for the pair.

“They’ve been talking constantly. It’s been good for the both of them, they really care for each other,” the source explains. “Neither of them are looking to jump into a large commitment, but it’s getting more serious.”

Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston definitely make a nice looking couple. Do you expect there is a future for these two?

  • Emily VanCamp Will Be Back To Protect Captain America

Emily VanCamp has had a successful run on ABC’s Revenge for the past four years, but with the recent conclusion of the show comes new opportunities for the actress, and one of them is on the silver screen.

VanCamp will reportedly return to the Marvel universe as Agent 13 in Captain America: Civil War, reprising the role she briefly inhabited in Winter Soldier. In the comic books, Agent 13 is the niece of Peggy Carter–Cap’s WWII-era love interest–and presumably the films will follow that storyline.

Back in January, the directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, said that there will be some familiar faces in the new film, including Rrobert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson.

‘We’ve been preparing for the movie since the one debuted last year. So, we’ve been working on it for a long time now,” they said.”We’re very happy how it’s coming along… It’s going to star Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier [Stan] will be back, and Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film.”

Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, said in a recent interview that he believes his character wants to find love again, but that it’s so hard for him to do something in his own interest when so many people need him.

“Family is certainly what he wants, but Cap puts what he wants last. That’s his M.O. And I think for so long he just refuses to bleed on people. So it’s hard to explore a guy who doesn’t want to make waves with his own personal conflict. He’s always trying to help the greater good,” Evans said.

Emily VanCamp took to Twitter last month to thank fans of Revenge for making it such a success, noting that she was overwhelmed with their response when news broke that the show was in its last season.

“I am utterly overwhelmed with all of the Revenge love I’m reading. Thank you! Its been one hell of a ride!” she wrote.

Captain America: Civil War is due out in May of next year.

  • Lily Collins Dating ‘Captain America,’ Chris Evans

Lily Collins and Chris Evans are dating. The Captain America star and the daughter of Phil Collins are officially a couple. Lily Collins shares her beau’s acting bug, and is known for her roles in films like The Blind Side and Mirror Mirror.

So how did these two meet?

According to a report from Us Weekly, a source tells them the pair met last month at the Oscars.

“It’s just the beginning stages,” the source explained. “But they’re having a lot of fun and seeing where it goes.”

Lily Collins once had a brief romance with Zac Efron. She was more recently in a relationship with Australian actor Thomas Cocquerel. They broke up just over a year ago.

Chris Evans dated Jessica Biel–yes, the same Jessica Biel now married to Justin Tiimberlake and very pregnant with his baby–from 2004 to 2006. He dated Minka Kelly twice–breaking up most recently in 2013.

Even if things are only in the beginning stages for Lily Collins and Chris Evans, it’s hard to deny they’re a nice looking couple. It will certainly be interesting to see where the coming weeks and months take them.

Do you think Chris Evans and Lily Collins can make a go of an actual relationship? Do you expect to learn before too long that ‘in a relationship’ will be their true status rather than simply ‘dating?’

  • Minka Kelly and Chris Evans Back Together? Not So Fast, Folks.

Minka Kelly and Chris Evans were photographed picking up lunch from Hugo’s Tacos in L.A. Tuesday, and rumors that the two may be back together are rampant.

“Chris stayed in the car while Minka picked up the order,” an eyewitness told E! News, at the same location where the two were caught making out in October 2012.

    But not so fast, folks.

“It was just a friendly lunch,” a source insists.

The duo also spent time with his family in late September, stepping out for karaoke night at Lavender Asian Cuisine & Bar in Evans’s hometown of Sudbury, Massachusetts, according to People.

“It looked like a family night out,” an eyewitness said. “They were with a bunch of people, including Chris’s family, and Chris and Minka sat in the back while other people in their group got up and did some karaoke.”

The couple, who began dating in 2007 and broke up for good last year, have never discussed their on-again-off-again relationship.

After their final breakup in 2013, Kelly kept busy by starring in the first and only season of Fox’s Almost Human.

The 34-year-old actress also filmed a movie, The World Made Straight, alongside Jeremy Irvine, Haley Joel Osment and Noah Wyle and will star in the 2015 movie, Papa, with Giovanni Ribisi and Joely Richardson.

As for Evans, he tried his hand at directing, spending the past several months directing and starring in the movie Before We Go.

“It’s good to be done,” he told IndieWire. “It’s intimidating to be talking about it, because I am so used to being an actor, where your job is a small piece of the puzzle.”

Evans was also romantically linked to his childhood crush Sandra Bullock after the two were noticed in several public outings.

“We’ve since married and it started breaking apart, so we separated,” said Bullock, making a joke of the rumors. “We filed for divorce, and I hope everyone can respect our privacy. But we’re going to remain friends and share responsibility of the farm animals we’ve taken on, because you just can’t abandon the animals.”

Evans also is reprising his role as Captain America in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will hit theaters on May 1, 2015.

  • Scarlett Johansson Wins Lawsuit Against Author Using Her as ‘Sex Object’ in Book

Scarlett Johansson, 29, won a defamation lawsuit against an author who wrote a book featuring a character based on the Avengers actress.

In the lawsuit, the Captain America star accused French writer Gregoire Delacourt of making “fraudulent use of her name, fame and image” in his book La premiere Chose Qu’on Regarde (The First Thing We Look At).

The character in the book is described as Johansson’s “exact double” who is treated as a “sex object” because of her looks.

Delacourt claims he only used her image as a way of giving Johansson a compliment.

“It was meant as the highest praise. She is an archetypal beauty of our times, very human with a touching fragility. She is a wonderful, iconic actress. I was hoping that she might send me flowers because this book is, in a way, a declaration of love. If I had known she was going to kick up such a racket, I would have picked another actress,” said Delacourt.

The actress, who is currently expecting a baby with French fiancé Romain Dauraic, sued for $69,302, accusing the novelist of using her likeness to promote the story.

Delacourt has sold more than 100,000 copies of his novel and was surprised when the actress brought the lawsuit against him.

“I wrote a work of fiction. My character is not Scarlett Johansson,” he told the French newspaper Le Figaro. “I’m not sure she’s even read the book. It’s not been translated.”

A court in Paris, France, ruled in Johansson’s favor, but she was awarded only $3,397. The Lucy actress also sought an injunction to stop the novel from being translated into other languages or adapted for a movie, but the court threw the request out.

Delacourt’s publisher said that now that the suit is settled, the publishing house is open to offers for an English translation.

  • ‘The Other Woman’ Debuts at No. 1 at the Box Office

Cameron Diaz’s newest comedy The Other Woman hit theaters this weekend and went straight to the top. The film made $25 million in its opening weekend, enough to kick Captain America: Winter Soldier out of the top spot, which brought in $16 million in its fourth week of release (for a total of $225 million US ticket sales).

The Other Woman stars Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton who team up to take on the man that’s three-timing them all. Leslie Mann plays the wife of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who many may recognize from HBO’s Game of Thrones. When Leslie finds out her husband’s been sleeping with both Cameron and Kate, instead of hating them, she becomes their friends in mutual hatred of Coster-Waldau, and together they embark on an epic revenge plan.

Despite poor critical reviews (The New York Times called it “dumb, lazy, and unoriginal”) and a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences still rated the film a B+ on CinemaScore. Clearly audiences (who were 75% women) responded to message of female empowerment behind the film and applauded its efforts.

“‘The Other Woman’ once again proves the power of female comedies,” says Spencer Klein, sales manager for 20th Century Fox. The $40 million movie “significantly outperformed” expectations: Fox was only hoping to see $17 million this weekend. “It’s been a while for a female-driven comedy like this,” he said, adding that the movie had become something of a “girls’ night out” experience for gal pals across the country.

  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Aligns With ‘Captain America’

[Spoilers] Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a popular ABC television show in and of itself; however, the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier may ultimately lead to a further promotion of the hit television show. Executive Producers Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell recently spoke with TVGuide regarding the potential influence.

According to Loeb, “We hope people are watching the show. We don’t focus too much on where ratings are. That’s a network thing. We’re putting out a terrific show. Here’s the good news: By all indications, everyone is talking about what happened last [week]. We know that Captain America is an astonishingly good movie. Hopefully, you come out of that movie, even if you’ve never seen S.H.I.E.L.D., you’re scratching your head going, “Isn’t there a television show that’s about this?” Even if half the people are as mind blown as you are, it seems like there’s going to be a lot of what used to be called “watercooler talk” about this show, and that’s a good thing.”

Though the interlocking storyline between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Captain America: The Winter Soldier may appear to flow effortlessly, Jeffrey Bell explained that a high level of collaboration was needed to achieve the coherent result.

“What’s wonderful is the Marvel movie universe is letting us play in their world. We talked with them at the beginning of what we wanted to do, which Marvel characters we wanted to tie in. They created this universe, so we’ve been talking about it with them the whole time.” Bell said before adding, “It was also why we knew from the beginning that what the movie reveals is Hydra is everywhere. If that were true, that meant it had to be true on our crew as well. It was exciting for us that, oh my God, we have a giant secret that we’re keeping all season! But it was also hard that there was a snake in the grass that we had to build in and keep that secret the whole season.”

  • Chris Evans: Acting, Directing & Looking Great Naked

As Captain America: The Winter Soldier breaks records on its debuting weekend, some chatter has been going around that this may be lead actor Chris Evans’ last go around in the spandex flag suit. Access Hollywood tells us of a conversation during the New York premiere of Captain America: The Winter Solider where Evans felt prompted to clarify an earlier interview in which he stated a strong interest in directing and that he would put more efforts into directing.

The media did a highly uncharacteristic thing and sensationalized the statement to mean that Chris Evans was retiring from acting and would not play Captain America in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Although he almost passed on playing Captain America initially and now seems to be wearing a beard, it seems wise to take Chris Evans for his word. If you’re of the type to believe a hot guy’s word over an average guy, a compilation of Chris Evan’s sexiest moments has recently appeared for the world to peruse. In this 60-second clip, there are moments from past movies such as What’s Your Number, Cellular, Not Another Teen Movie (still wondering why he had such hesitation on being in a Marvel movie) as well as some Captain America: Spandex Unpeeled moments in Fantastic Four and the first Captain America movie.

This should provide better foundational information as you check out Chris Evans in the newest Captain America movie out now, and be assured that you’ll see him and possibly more of his bod in later movies. 1:30 Train will serve as Chris Evans’ directorial debut in which he will also star in along with Alice Eve and Mark Kassen. Filming began in December 2013 and should come out before the second Avengers movie.

  • Captain America: Trailer Scenes To Look Forward To

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set to hit theaters across the country today. It already seems destined to be the first of many warm weather blockbusters.

    Are YOU excited?

Well if you’re feeling a bit “meh” about the newest Marvel comic book movie, I don’t blame you.

The first Captain America wasn’t exactly an action-and-special-effects packed thriller like Iron Man or Thor.

While sequels to those movies performed well at the box office, critically they seem to have fallen short of their predecessors.

The reverse is true of Winter Soldier, which is not only better reviewed than the first Captain America movie, it seems genuinely more anticipated.

It’s all thanks to the scenes in the movie’s trailers and TV spots. The images manage to not give away the entire movie plot and at the same time let us look forward to truly mouth-watering moments.

Here are some scenes from the trailer people are no doubt eagerly awaiting to see in context:

    The Epic Shield Catch

It’s Captain America’s shield. You don’t just CATCH Captain America’s shield. Even Thor’s hammer Mjolnir was no match for the thing.

In the superhuman Winter Soldier, we have someone who not only knew the shield was coming at him, but had ability to stop it.

It was most definitely a moment of badassery and it’s hard not to want to know what happens next.

    Who’s Under The Blanket?

Somebody dies and Black Widow cries.

Since the Black Widow as played by Scarlett Johansson is not prone to sincere and deep displays of emotion, we can only assume it’s an important character.

This has led to heavy speculation as to who is under the blanket. Some think it’s Nick Fury and others suspect it’s Hawkeye. It may even be the Winter Soldier himself.

This mystery will be solved shortly, so anticipate having to dodge this major spoiler when it hits the internet!

    Winter Soldier Takes The Wheel…Literally

In the scene where the Winter Soldier grabs the car wheel and rips it out, Captain America and Black Widow are placed in quite a serious situation to say the least.

Are they going to get out of the car safely or will there be a terrible crash? Anything is possible with these movies, but it’s likely what follows will be pretty awesome.

It will no doubt be worth the required suspension of disbelief.

  • Captain America: Evans Not Leaving As Rumored

There are many speculating as to what will happen when the dust settles in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

A scene in movie trailers featuring the Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson) mourning a body under a blanket hints at a major character death.

However, scenes featuring the Winter Soldier holding the famous Captain America shield suggests that this is Chris Evan’s last turn as the iconic hero.

After all, rumors have been circulating the internet that Evans is tired of playing the character and of acting altogether.

Is it true that Chris Evans is retiring and won’t be back to play the Star-Spangled hero? Calm down, kids. The rumors are all false.

According to the man himself, he’s not going anywhere.

When speaking with Good Morning America about the rumors, Evans said of himself, “By no means am I planning on retiring. It’s kind of a silly statement.”

He added, “I certainly am going to try to focus a bit more on directing at this point.”

    So there you have it!

Evans isn’t so much retiring from acting; he’s actually looking to get behind the camera.

The retirement rumors can be blamed on a recent interview with Variety. In the interview Evans admitted he’ll probably not be doing much acting outside of what he’s “contractually obligated to do”.

“If I’m acting at all, it’s going to be under Marvel contract,” Evans told the magazine.

He hopes to “be directing” when not honoring existing acting obligations.

Fans of Evans are no doubt excited to see what his directorial projects will be. Marvel fans who are fond of him as Captain America will be relieved that the sequel, which hits theaters across the country this weekend, won’t be the last they see of him in the role.

  • Chris Evans To Leave The Acting World?

Chris Evans To Leave The Acting World?

Chris Evans has captured our hearts since he appeared in “Not Another Teen Movie”, but as a superhero he’s gained a level of fame many only dream about. Now, he says, he may be done with it all.

Evans signed a 6-picture deal to appear as Captain America in the insanely successful Marvel series, but he says when he’s finished with that, he wants to be on the other side of the camera. He’s already used his time off from filming wisely, taking winter break to shoot his directorial debut, “1:30 Train”. The indie love story stars Alice Eve and was filmed in just 19 days.

“I’ve known for a while I wanted to direct,” Evans says. “But (time) never really opens up. There’s another movie to do, there’s another acting job. It just got to a point where I was like, you know what — I have to do this. If I’m acting at all, it’s going to be under Marvel contract, or I’m going to be directing. I can’t see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I’m contractually obligated to do.”

But it’s not as though Evans will leave the spotlight anytime soon; he still has at least three Marvel movies to do, and he acknowledged in a Variety interview that the films have opened up doors for him in the directorial world.

“Without these movies, I wouldn’t be directing,” he said. “They gave me enough overseas recognition to greenlight a movie. And if I’m speaking extremely candidly, it’s going to continue to do that for as long as the Marvel contract runs.”

Evans can be seen next in “Captain America: Winter Soldier”, which opens in April.

  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier Has Good Early Reviews

Surprise, surprise! Marvel has made yet another fantastic superhero film in the form of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. Critics have been raving about the latest installment in the Marvel movie-verse after getting a taste of the film in early showings. Disney allowed critics to take to Twitter and share their opinions on the film about three weeks before it is scheduled to release, and the results have been in their favor; the critics are loving this film.

According to the information and trailers released to the public (one of which is shown below), the new film will feature Captain America (also known by his civilian name, Steve Rogers) as well as Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) as they go on various missions and escapades for S.H.I.E.L.D. Chris Evans, the actor who portrays Steve, has revealed that his character will not just be grappling with old-friends-turned-enemies and baddies like those shown in the action-packed trailers, but with the “moral ambiguities of the modern age.”

In an interview with Hero Complex, Chris was quoted as saying, “For Steve, it’s about what is right. He’s relatively acclimated to the modern day — it’s not tech shock anymore, he’s not just like, ‘What’s a cellphone?’ It’s more about, given his situation, given the company he works for, what are we doing that’s the right thing? How much privacy, civil liberties are we willing to compromise for security? It’s pretty crazy how relevant it is right now.”

This take on Steve and the direction it takes the film has, apparently, been a huge hit with the critics who have gotten a sneak peek at the film. As mentioned above, they took to Twitter to express their thoughts, and an overwhelming majority expressed that the film was superb in one way or another.

Those are just a few of the multitude of awesome snippets that can be found all over Twitter. Here’s to hoping that the film lives up to the hype and is just as successful with general audiences. It definitely sounds like a fantastic film that no one will want to miss! Be sure to mark your calendars for April 4th, when it releases to theaters.

  • Captain America: Is Nick Fury Out of Here?

Captain America: Is Nick Fury Out of Here?

Going by Samuel L. Jackson’s usual pace, maybe one of the hardest working actors has forty more roles to play in the next two years and needed to bow out of the upcoming sequels– from the looks of the newest Captain America TV spot, Jackson’s character Nick Fury might be headed for that Great Eyepatch In the Sky in the new movie.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the newest spin-off of Marvel’s wildly popular Avenger movie featuring Captain America, the Falcon and the Black Widow. The storyline focuses on Captain America adjusting to modern life while dealing with a reincarnated threat, a long-haired Soviet agent with a metal arm that goes by the name of the Winter Soldier. Due to Scarlett Johansson’s hotness and the overall awesomeness of the Black Widow character, she also comes back as Captain America’s teammate. The Falcon is the newcomer to the movie, a metal-winged Harlemite with an affection for birds who often helped Captain America and the Avengers in the comic books.

The first feature was released earlier this month, and it showed someone covered with The Death Blanket,

and now the recently released TV spot from Marvel Entertainment has fans abuzz– it was shown that Nick Fury was indeed in the car demolished by the Winter Soldier, and it also included Captain America referring to Nick Fury’s “last words.”

What does it all mean? Marvel surely didn’t just release one of the Biggest Spoilers of All Time… We can’t be sure, of course. Either way, we’ll find out when the movie is released on April 4th. Can’t wait.

  • Hayley Atwell, Writers and EPs Confirmed For Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter’ ABC Drama

The rumors of a potential Agent Carter spin-off have been swarming since September of last year.

Now, there’s concrete facts!  Captain America actress Hayley Atwell will indeed be reprising the role of Agent Carter in a new ABC drama series which bares her character’s namesake.

On Friday, Jan. 17, ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee confirmed the news at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.

According to Hollywood Reporter, he stated that the new Agent Carter script – written and developed by Captain America scriptwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely – had come in.

“That certainly has a good chance to be on the network,” Lee said from the stage of the new Agent Carter material.

Following the Television Critics Association conference, he also confirmed that Atwell would be reprising her notable role in the potential series.

It was also stated that Reaper creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have also been enlisted as executive productions for the Captain America-inspired series.

“She’s such a strong, wonderful character if you’ve seen the one-shot,” said Butters, at TCA to support ABC’s upcoming fantasy drama series Resurrection. “We’re happy to be involved, ” she said. The show-runner also revealed that she and Fazekas could ultimately collaborate on both Resurrection and Agent Carter should both shows excel for the 2014-15 television season.

    (image)

However, the ABC Studios/Marvel Entertainment project is only in the preliminary stages, as a pilot hasn’t even been ordered yet. The potential Agent Carter series comes highly regarded as the network has garnered substantial success with Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.

The Agent Carter one-shot was released as a short on the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray release September 24, 2013. The short captures Atwell along with Dominic Cooper and Neal McDonough as they reprise their roles as Howard Stark and Dum Dum Dugan.

The short film picks up one year after all of the events that took place in Captain America: The First Avenger. The short was directed by Louis D’Esposito and written by Eric Pearson.

  • First ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ Trailer Released

Fans of Marvel comics and movies are only two weeks away from hitting theaters for Thor: The Dark World. Marvel Studios, though, isn’t resting on the success of just the Thor and Avengers movies. The production company is already gearing up for the 2014 release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The first trailer for Winter Soldier was released today, teasing yet another big-budget Marvel superhero movie. The villain of the movie, Winter Soldier, is prominently featured throughout the trailer. Without spoiling the movie for newer fans of the Marvel movies, the origins of the villain are quite personal for both the Captain and Black Widow.

The trailer also touches on the Captain’s staunch values. It appears that the hero might have to confront some hard decisions about loyalty and S.H.I.E.L.D.’s place in the world. Decisions that could lead to the fate of the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, which is spoiled at the end of the video.

Captain America: Winter Soldier is scheduled to premiere on April 4, 2014.

  • New Captain America Poster Hits, Teaser Trailer Drops On Thursday

Phase 2 of Marvel Studios’ current movie arc involving members of the Avengers gets it next installment with the upcoming Thor: Dark World sequel, which hits theaters on November 8th. Following that, the next chapter leading up the 2015’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron is the second part of Captain America’s story. The 2014 release focuses on the Winter Soldier storyline, much to the delight of comic book geeks everywhere. Rightfully so, I might add. The Winter Soldier story is a really fun read. If you aren’t sure of the storyline and want and idea of where Marvel Studios is going with Cap, here’s Marvel Comics’ official Winter Soldier wiki entry.

Needless to say, potential spoilers apply.

With about six months until Captain America: Winter Solider until hits the theaters (4/4/2014), it sounds like a good time to get the marketing ball rolling, which was done quite nicely with the following tweet from Marvel Entertainment:

Here’s a closer look at the teaser poster:

    (image)

Why yes, that is, in fact, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, along with Washington D.C. in the background. While the poster itself isn’t all the groundbreaking or, well, incredibly exciting, the fact that it’s attached to a teaser trailer announcement makes lessens whatever disappointment it might generate. Does the early-ish release date surprise you? Most Marvel tentpole movies usually target the Memorial Day weekend. Did Marvel actually target April because of the 4/4/14 marketing/design benefits the provided by the numeric synergy?

  • Captain America Sequel Trailer Shown At Comic Con

For people who like certain kinds of movies and TV shows (and novels and comic books, of course), San Diego Comic Con is one of the best weeks of the year. The convention, once devoted exclusively to comic books (hence the name), has evolved over the years to be one of the top venues for revealing new information, footage, and trailers from upcoming movies. This year is no different, as Comic Con attendees have gotten sneak peeks at several highly-anticipated films and TV shows. There’s been a trailer for season for of The Walking Dead, a trailer for the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who, teasers for the next Superman movie, and a lot more.

Marvel’s Avengers sequence has gotten a lot of attention at this year’s con. Attendees at yesterday’s Captain America panel were treated to the debut of the first trailer of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as well as some information about the plot. This movie is meant to bridge the gap between last year’s The Avengers and its sequel, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is set for a summer 2015 release date.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier brings the good captain into the present, and will deal with some of his struggles to adapt to life in the 21st century. That said, Chris Evans, who plays the titular captain, said that we shouldn’t expect his difficulties adjusting to technology to be played for laughs.

Also present at the panel were Scarlett Johanson, whose role as the Black Widow will be expanded in the new movie, Sebastian Stan, who played Bucky Barnes in the first Captain America and the titular Winter Soldier, directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and others. The movie has another week of filming left before moving into post-production, and is scheduled for release on April 4, 2014.

Other movies in the Marvel universe also got some attention at Comic Con this year, including Thor: The Dark World, which opens on November 8, and the next Avengers movie. Director Joss Whedon revealed that the sequel will be titled Avengers: Age of Ultron, and will hit theaters in the summer of 2015. Guardians of the Galaxy, a non-Avengers movie, was represented as well. It’s slated for release on August 1, 2014.

  • Captain America’s New Job: Leading The Country

Captain America has long stood for what is right and good with the world (however sparse those things may be), his shield and costume symbols for a defender who will do whatever it takes to keep freedom free and the bad guys right where they belong, rather than running amok in the world. And now, he’ll get to do it all from the White House.

In the upcoming Marvel Comics “The Ultimates” issue, Steve Rogers will transition from soldier to Commander-In-Chief after winning the election as a write-in. In other words, he’s the hero the world wants and needs.

“Cap is answering the call of the people. This is not the first time he’s stood up for an America in crisis. This is a further evolution in his role as America’s defender, from soldier to superhero to president,” writer Sam Humphries said. “He didn’t ask for this position, but if it helps him reunite America, then he’ll take on the job.”

With the insane success of the comic-to-film transitions of “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “The Avengers”–not to mention the recent tense election months–now is the perfect time to see such a dramatic shift in the Captain’s character. With the Marvel world in turmoil as factionalism and rampant anti-mutant groups march towards destruction, Captain America is looked upon as the one person who can make a change.

“Cap has been elected to do a job, and he’s going to do whatever it takes to reunite America. He doesn’t see his place as having press conferences in rose gardens, he sees his place as out in the field,” Humphries said. “This will result in a unique and thrilling presidency we’ve never seen before, in history or in fiction.”

  • Avengers Assemble Great Themed Outfits

The Avengers will be the largest movie of all time when everything is all said and done. That is almost guaranteed at this point. The thing that is surprising though is that the love for the movie from fans and artists and designers hasn’t seemed to slow down one little bit. So when this stuff keeps coming out, and a great movie like the Avengers is still at the front of everyones mind, it can only make me smile!

Polyvore is continuing this tradition now, and has released a bunch of outfits that are styled after the Avengers. From the Hulk to Iron Man you can get a real sense of ho exactly they are styled after. The items in the outfits are all for sale individually and vary in price. The Captain America outfit for examples features a $13 top from Target and a $190 pair of shoes from John Lewis.

  • Marvel And Reebok Do A Team Up On Some Shoes

So sometimes even china gets a scoop. This time they were the first ones to find out about some new shoes being designed by a team to feature some of Marvel’s favorite super heroes and anti-heroes.

The website was actually in Chinese so I had Google translate it and this is what it came up with when they were talking about the Captain America shoe:

“Captain America, the theme of sports shoes to the Reebok Ventilator shoes for the prototype, combined with the Captain America uniform and shield color and pattern elements, from shoes to experience the spirit of Captain America’s sense of justice gas.”

    Here is the original text:

    ??????????Reebok Ventilator???????????????????????????????????????????

Justice Gas you say? LOL…is this propaganda or is this google translate getting things wrong? Or maybe Captain America and dairy products don’t get along? Unfortunately we will never know.

The other part of the site that is interesting is that they call Wolverine “Werewolf” in China…..kinda weird.

Here are some of the cooler designs for you to check out. There are others on the Chinese website. Captain America’s design is the lead at the top of the page!:
