  • Florida Men Butt-Dial Employer, Detail Robbery in Voicemail

In an era of smartphones and passcodes, one would think that the instances of “butt dialing” would decline, if not disappear altogether.

    But this is Florida.

Two Key West men have been booked on charges of felony grand theft after leaving a voicemail detailing their crime. They didn’t know they were leaving the voicemail, of course, as one of the men had accidentally called his employer.

    From the Miami Herald:

David Ricky Fanuelsen, 39, and Dean Ellis Brown, 22, are accused of stealing three saws from their employer, Concrete Solutions, at a job site on North Roosevelt Boulevard.

They got caught after one of them accidentally “butt dialed” the office. The call went to voice mail, which recorded Fanuelsen and Brown discussing how they planned to pawn the tools, Key West Police Department spokeswoman Alyson Crean said.

It appears this was rather damning evidence, as both men have since confessed to stealing the saws.

If this story sounds too funny to be true, you should know that this happens all the time. It’s actually impressive how many criminals find a way to butt dial people and detail, at length, their various crimes.

Like that time a couple of video game thieves butt-dialed 911 and discussed their plans to sell the stolen merchandise for over an hour as the operator listened in. Or the time a Pennsylvania man accidentally called 911 during a drug deal. Then there was that time Florida Man butt-dialed 911 and detailed a murder plot. Oh yeah, and we can’t forget about the modern day Bonnie and Clyde from Roswell, New Mexico, who unwittingly dialed 911 and discussed a just-committed robbery, all while blasting Bon Jovi’s ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’.

You can’t make this stuff up.

  • 911 Butt-Dial Features Robbery Details, Bon Jovi

A couple of cowboys will likely be riding their steel horses all the way to the clink after accidentally butt-dialing 911 shortly after they allegedly stole a man’s TV.

Aaron Burrell, 37, and Yvonne Thyberg, 35, of Roswell, New Mexico detailed their crime to no doubt incredibly amused dispatchers after accidentally dialing 911 during their getaway.

Here are some of the gems that police picked up from the unintentional broadcast:

    “You basically robbed them, dude.”

“That was an adrenaline rush for a minute. You know what, that’s the first thing I’ve stolen.”

“Yeah, we picked up this f-cking TV set totally and we f-cking wheeled it out the house.”

“We should have gotten a lot more, but you know what, I’m looking at it like this – we got away safe, clean.”

At one point, the couple starts blasting Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” because of course they do. You really can’t make this up:

In all, police have about 45 minutes of material from the butt-dial. Burrell even led police directly to the house, saying “we rolled over to Hervey Street and took it out of the f-cking house.”

The funny thing about this – other than every single thing about this – is that this happens a lot more than you might think. A few years ago, a couple of idiots who had just stolen a bunch of video games from Target butt-dialed police, unknowingly detailing their crime to officers for over an hour. A couple of years ago a guy butt-dialed 911 during a drug deal. And just last year, Florida Man butt-dialed 911 and detailed a murder plot.

Be careful, criminals. Your passcode won’t help you when it comes to making emergency calls.

  • Florida Man Butt Dials 911, Details Murder Plot

Earlier this month, a 33-year-old man was shot dead in his car while traveling southbound on I-95 near Oakland Park, Florida. After the shots were fired, Nicholas Romondo Walker’s silver Buick crashed into a guardrail and burst into flames. The incident shut down traffic on the interstate for nearly 4 hours.

Now, some interesting details have emerged surrounding the incident, the suspects, and the events leading up to the murder – mainly that an ill-timed 911 butt dial led police to one of the men involved.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says that the man who orchestrated the plot , 24-year-old Scott Simon, has been arrested and charged with first degree murder after he pocket-dialed 911 just moments before the fatal shooting occurred. They believe that the plot was hatched after the men got into a fight at a Waffle House.

“On a recorded line, Scott Simon can be heard telling someone else that he’s going to follow the victim home and kill him. Minutes later, 33-year-old Nicholas Walker was shot and killed while driving his car onto the highway,” said the Sheriff’s office in a release.

Authorities do not think that Simon actually pulled the trigger, so they are still searching for two other suspects in the case.

This isn’t the first time that a butt dial to 911 has led to a criminal’s demise. Back in 2011, two men were arrested after one of the made an unknown pocket call to 911 detailing their plot to sell stolen video games at a local exchange store. And last year, a man was arrested after butt dialing 911 during a drug deal.

It looks like the world’s worst superhero, Florida Man, has struck again.
