  • Tennessee Buses Crash, Three Killed

Two school buses collided on a Tennessee highway Tuesday afternoon, killing three and injuring 23.

The crash occurred near Knoxville, at approximately 3 p.m., and two children and one adult died. Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch said that the adult who died was a teacher’s aide.

Rausch added that three passengers who were critically injured were transported to University of Tennessee Medical Center, and are in stable condition. An additional 20 students were taken to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries, according to hospital spokesperson Erica Estep.

First responders on the scene witnessed that one of the buses was on its side. Karla Corona, a parts sales manager, commented, “I heard the big bang. As soon as I rang up the customer, we saw that a bus had flipped over and another was in the middle of the road.”

Rausch commented that 18 of the 20 of the students had been on a bus leaving from Sunnyview Primary School, which educates kindergarten through second grade. Rausch added that the students were taken to the hospital on a city bus to be checked out for “bumps and scrapes.”

The other bus was from Chilhowee Intermediate School, which serves third through fifth grade. Rausch said some of the passengers were taken to the hospital by their families.

Knox County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre said at a news conference, “This is an unspeakable tragedy. This is what we work every day to try to prevent.”

  • Florida Bus Crash Involves School Bus, Naked Woman

Car crashes happen every day all over the world and are so common that the majority of them do not even make local headlines. There are exceptions, of course. Someone like Jennifer Lopez being rear-ended is bound to make the tabloids. Also, Florida. Florida is always an exception.

On Monday a log truck slammed into the back of a school bus in Starke, Florida. According to a Florida Times-Union report a chaotic scene involving children crying and a naked woman lying nearby played out as rescue workers arrived at the crash site.

A Bradford County, Florida sheriff told the Times-Union that some children were trapped on the bus when he arrived. The sheriff also stated that the injured, naked woman appeared to have been thrown from the truck during the crash.

Fifteen children were aboard the bus when the crash occurred and seven were taken to the hospital for injuries. Three adults were also injured in the crash – the bus driver, the truck driver, and the naked woman (later determined to be the truck driver’s wife). No one died as a result of the crash.

What exactly caused the crash has not yet been determined. The most intriguing question surrounding the incident – why the woman was naked – has also not yet been determined.

According to the Times-Union report the crash occurred at a school bus stop on U.S. 301 on Monday afternoon while the bus was dropping off elementary school students. It was raining at the time and some parents were waiting at the bus stop. The bus driver saw the truck speeding toward the bus and hit the accelerator before the crash, mitigating some of the impact. Even so, the truck slammed into the bus without breaking, pushing it about 40 yards into a field by the road. Witnesses told the newspaper that the truck’s engine became dislodged as the truck jacknifed into a ditch.

The Times-Union has since reported that the truck had been stopped and inspected in Nassau County at around noon on Monday. Authorities had been alerted that the log truck, which was not carrying a load, was driving recklessly.

  • California Bus Crash Leaves 4 Dead

A tour bus carrying 32 passengers was involved in a crash with a big rig and two other vehicles in California early Wednesday morning, leaving four dead.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a truck carrying metal pipes jackknifed around 2 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 10 near Blythe, Calif. near the Arizona border, sending the cargo flying into the adjacent lane of traffic. “The pipes subsequently caused some of the vehicles to crash into them in the eastbound lanes and it appears they could have rolled into westbound traffic which is where the bus was traveling,” said Terri Kasinga of Caltrans.

The bus collided with the pipes and then ran off the road by 40 to 50 feet, before falling down an embankment and landing on its side.

Among the survivors is a 12-day-old infant, who was unscathed.

The initial investigation of the crash has revealed that the driver of the bus swerved to avoid the falling pipes, causing him to lose control. The tour bus is operated by El Paso-Los Angeles Limousine Express.

Passenger Caesar Castillo commented, “I hit the ceiling and when I came back down, I landed on top of a guy that was dead. This is the blood that I have, his blood, on me. I’m freaking out and everybody’s screaming and I’m like, alright, we gotta get out of here.” Twenty-one passengers were transported to area hospitals, with six being medvaced.

The Blythe crash comes a little over a month after a fiery Los Angeles bus crash left 10 dead.

Traffic is slowly moving again on Interstate 10.

California Bus Crash Leaves Four Dead

A bus operated by El Paso-Los Angeles Limousine Express, Inc. crashed on Wednesday at around 2:15 am.

The incident is reported to have occurred just west of Blythe, Calif. near the Arizona border on a section of Interstate 10.

The bus was carrying 32 passengers and traveling from El Paso to Los Angeles.

Terri Kasinga of the California Department of Transportation said in a statement that the accident was due to a tractor trailer jackknifing onto the median.

The truck was carrying a load of steel pipes that spilled across all lanes of the highway, affecting traffic in both directions.

Authorities believe that the bus either struck the pipes and turned over or that the driver of the bus swerved in an attempt to avoid the pipes and the bus overturned as a result.

After falling over on its side, the bus slid across the shoulder of the road and then 50 feet down an embankment.

Kasinga said that four of the bus’s passengers were killed. Several other passengers in critical condition were transported by helicopter to nearby hospitals.

The bus company sent small charter buses to transport the remaining uninjured passengers.

The bus crash was not the only accident to occur following the tractor trailer dumping pipes all over the roadway.

Four different vehicles which were all headed eastbound on I-10 also crashed, resulting in several individuals being taken to hospitals for treatment.

Kasinga announced that all lanes of the interstate would be closed until at least Wednesday afternoon. It’s possible the roads may be shut down longer.

Traffic on the interstate near the accident was reportedly backed up for miles in both directions. Drivers who usually the main artery through the Lower Colorado River Valley are encouraged to use alternate routes.

The California Highway Patrol have stated that they are presently investigating the accident and working to determine what caused the tractor trailer to jackknife.

  • Willie Nelson Postpones Tour After Crash

Willie Nelson Postpones Tour After Crash

Willie Nelson and Family are postponing their remaining November tour stops due to the bush crash that injured three out of five band members. The bus was in an accident late Saturday night caused by icy conditions on the road about 80 miles east of Dallas, Texas, according to CNN.

The bus driver was trying to negotiate heavy rains and winds and crashed at about 3:30 am, said Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Sylvia Jennings.

“The driver stated that he had been driving through heavy, heavy rains and high winds and was having a difficult time driving,” Jennings said. “I guess at some point he lost control, went off the road and hit one of the columns of one of the overpasses.”

Willie Nelson, himself, wasn’t on the bus, according to Reuters. It was earlier reported that drummer Billy English had a broken hip, but that was later corrected. Two of the other bandmates, English’s brother, Billy, and Thomas Ray Hawkins, had bumps and bruises, Jennings said. They were all taken to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital after the accident.

“No one suffered serious injuries. Paul English injured his ankle, Billy English suffered a bruised hip and crew member Tom Hawkins has a cracked rib. The other family members on the bus are sore but everyone is expected to recover fully,” Nelson’s website said.

The band had been scheduled to play the Horseshoe Tunica Casino in Tunica, Mississippi, on Saturday night and then be in Jackson, Mississippi on Sunday night. They will resume tour dates in December.

  • Willie Nelson’s Band Members Injured When Tour Bus Crashes In Storm

The weather is to blame for the recent accident causing Willie Nelson’s tour bus crash – with band members inside. Willie Nelson wasn’t on that bus, but his band members were, and some were injured.

According to Nelson’s website, “No one suffered serious injuries. Paul English injured his ankle, Billy English suffered a bruised hip and crew member Tom Hawkins has a cracked rib. The other family members on the bus are sore but everyone is expected to recover fully.”

The tour bus spun out of control, hitting a bridge pillar around 3 AM on Saturday morning on Interstate 30 near Sulphur Springs during rainy conditions, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Freezing rain and cold weather, with high winds – caused many traffic accidents Saturday due to wintry conditions in parts of Texas. The crash occurred 80 miles east of Dallas after the band had just finished up playing a concert in Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma, Friday night.

The bus held 5 band members, including the driver. The tour scheduled for “Willie Nelson and Friends” that was booked to play four more tour dates in November has been postponed. The were to perform in Robinsonville and Jackson, Miss; Fayetteville, Ark.; and Lafayette, La.

The band needs a rest to recuperate. But don’t be dismayed – Nelson’s tour resumes in December.

  • Willie Nelson’s Band Members Injured In Wreck

Country music legend, Willie Nelson, is lucky that he was not on the same bus as his band mates this weekend. His band members were on a tour bus that was carrying the driver and five band members when it crashed at around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. The crash occurred on Interstate 30 near Sulphur Springs, approximately 80 miles northeast of Dallas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman, Sylvia Jennings, said that the bus wrecked due to severe weather conditions that included torrential rain and strong winds.

“The driver stated that he had been driving through heavy, heavy rains and high winds and was having a difficult time driving,” Jennings said. “I guess at some point he lost control, went off the road and hit one of the columns of one of the overpasses.”

Luckily, no one was seriously injured, and everyone is expected to make a full recovery. The bad news is that Nelson’s tour has been postponed through the end of the month to give his band members time to recuperate.

An update on the crash was posted on Willie Nelson’s official website. The update read:

The band’s bus (Willie was in his own bus) crashed along I-30 around 3:30 AM when it hit a bridge pillar — about 80 miles east of Dallas. We believe it is due to icy conditions on the road. No one suffered serious injuries. Paul English injured his ankle, Billy English suffered a bruised hip and crew member Tom Hawkins has a cracked rib. The other family members on the bus are sore but everyone is expected to recover fully.

The last four dates in November have been postponed and the tour resumes as scheduled in December.

  • Cincinnati Bus Crash Leads to Federal Investigation

Federal officials have stepped in to do a thorough investigation on the Greyhound bus that veered off Interstate 75, flipping over into an Ohio cornfield over the weekend. WDTN-Dayton, Ohio reported that an extensive investigation will be conducted by the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Administration in conjunction with the Butler County Sheriff’s office.

The local and federal entities have intervened to assist the Ohio State Highway Patrol in an effort to expeditiously determine the cause of the accident. Today, the Greyhound bus’ brakes where the main focal point of the investigation. Other mechanical parts where also inspected, but no mechanical specifications have been released as of yet. The tapes from the bus’ surveillance system have also been sent off for further review. The tapes will be observed to determine if any unusual activity took place minutes before the crash.

“We’re still putting together pieces of the puzzle. We haven’t determined the cause,” admitted Highway Patrol Lt. Edward Meija. Meija also informed the media that Dwayne Garrett, the 64 year old bus driver, who was also injured, voluntarily gave an investigative statement, and allowed for blood to be drawn for testing.

Greyhound Lines Inc. representative Alexandra Pedrini stated that the driver has 15 years experience, in addition to a ‘clean driving record.’ She went to say that the bus had also passed its  annual inspection recently.

The bus crashed at around 4:00am Saturday morning on Interstate 75, about 25 miles north of the Cincinnati city limits. The bus, transporting 51 passengers, was in route from Cincinnati to Detroit, MI. Approximately 35 passengers were injured, and six remain hospitalized.

  • Montenegro Bus Crash: Death Toll Climbs After Plunge Into Ravine

A deadly bus crash in the tiny republic of Montenegro has claimed 18 lives, officials say.

16 Romanians were initially reported dead on Sunday after a bus slid off the road and plunged into a 160-foot deep ravine, but two more victims died of their injuries late last night, bringing the toll to 18.

26 other passengers were injured in the accident, and a young boy who was walking on the road was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries after he was struck by the bus. Survivors say the driver was taking the steep roads too fast when they slid off the road; the area has been the site of many accidents along northern Montenegro towards Podgorica over the years, but this is the worst crash yet.

Weather conditions played a part in Sunday’s crash, as the roads were wet and slick. Romania sent military aircraft today and will deploy more tomorrow in order to pick up the survivors. For now, the wreckage of the bus remains in the ravine, but will likely be pulled out later today.

‘‘Unfortunately, we lost 18 people and that is a huge tragedy for Romania,’’ the health ministry official Arafat said.

  • 22 Killed In Collision, 5 Critically Injured

A tragic accident has claimed the lives of 22 people in the United Arab Emirates, and at least five people are critically wounded after a bus collided with a gravel truck.

The bus, which was carrying 46 Asian migrant workers, became trapped when the driver of a gravel truck lost control and the truck landed on top of the bus, trapping those inside under the load of rocks. The names and identities of the dead have not been released, but early reports say many of them were from Bangladesh.

Strangely, another bus crash in Monday’s early hours claimed the lives of eight people in Yucaipa, California when the bus, which was carrying a tour group from Mexico on a return from a ski trip, lost control and careened into several other vehicles and flipped. Police say it appears the brakes on the bus failed.

Yet another bus accident was reported over the weekend in Boston after a charter bus carrying high school students hit an overpass. 35 people were injured; no deaths have been reported.
