  • Jim Carrey Draws Mixed Reviews at the Oscars

At the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday night, there were many memorable moments. Ellen’s actor-clad selfie broke Twitter records, John Travolta embarrassingly messed up singer Idina Menzel’s name before she went on to sing the hit “Let It Go” from the 2014 Oscar winner, Frozen, and heartfelt acceptance speeches from Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, and Lupita Nyong’o brought a tear to many viewers eyes.

But when Dumb and Dumber star Jim Carrey took the stage last night to present the award for best animated film wearing a shiny blue jacket and horn-rimmed glasses, the online Oscar-watching community buzzed even more and the “Hip Jim Carrey” meme was born.

On stage, Carrey joked about how he had never been nominated for an Oscar. But after his odd performance, face-twisting an impression of Bruce Dern in Nebraska, most people were reminded why the 52-year old actor and comedian has never gotten a bid.

While some eternal fans praised his humor, most viewers found his antics to be old, uncomfortable, and just plain dumb.

According to the Inquisitr, last year Carrey wore prosthetic big feet and and tiny wings to Elton John’s Oscar after-party, so some would say this year he kept it “subtle.”

Although the Canadian American actor has been known for his slapstick roles in television and movies – Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura, The Mask – he has also been praised for his more serious roles in The Truman Show, and Man on the Moon, both of which earned him Golden Globe nominations.

Carrey has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and had battled depression in the past, but now states that he no longer takes any kind of medications or stimulants of any kind, including coffee.

“Jim has suffered from severe depression in the past, and you have to worry those fearful days are coming back again,” a source told the Express Tribune. “When you talk to him, he’s not as animated as he used to be. He seems [to be] at a low point — like a ship without a rudder.”

Carrey will be reprising his role as Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber To, which is released in theaters in November 2014.

  • Quentin Tarantino Cancels New Film After Script Is Leaked

If this recent incident has taught us anything, it is that you do not mess with Quentin Tarantino.

After a script for his new film was leaked early, he has refused to go through with the film, and fans will not be able to see what he has been working on.

The critically acclaimed and fan favorite director recently announced that his next film would be a western, and it had been given the title of The Hateful Eight.

He has publicly talked in the past about his love for the western genre, and previously enjoyed success with Django Unchained, which even received Oscar nominations.

However, he will not be going through with the project after what happened with the script. Tarantino is not sure of who leaked the script, but he has able to narrow it down to only a few people who would have had access.

The film was set to star Tim Roth, Bruce Dern, Christoph Waltz and Michael Madsen, although others were likely to be added as well as Quentin Tarantino is known for creating all-star casts for his films.

He said in a recent interview with frustration over the situation, “I give it out to six people, and if I can’t trust them to that degree, then I have no desire to make it. I’ll publish it. I’m done. I’ll move on to the next thing. I’ve got 10 more where that came from.”

One thing fans can know is not coming from their beloved Quentin Tarantino is another film in the Kill Bill franchise, as he shot down those rumors completely during another interview recently.

He further said “The one I know didn’t do this is Tim Roth. One of the others let their agent read it, and that agent has now passed it on to everyone in Hollywood.” The only other actors who had seen the script were Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern, and in addition to them and Django Unchained producer Reggie Hudlin, two other unnamed people had been given access.

Quentin Tarantino believes that it was one of the actors’ agents that leaked the script, specifically citing Dern’s rep at CAA as a possible culprit. He also said that he hopes this incident will cause reps and actors to be more discreet.

He was betrayed as a filmmaker, and more than having his screenplay leaked for others to see, the important thing for him as a director was the way in which he was mistreated at such an early part in the process.

For fans looking forward to seeing Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming The Hateful Eight, he said it may still come at some point in the future since he is able to change his mind, but the one thing that is certain is that it will not be his next film.

  • Bruce Dern Is Given Special Thanks From Leonardo DiCaprio [Video]

One of the losses that may have hurt most last night was when Bruce Dern lost to Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio tried to make the best of the situation and clearly felt bad for the veteran actor when acknowledging him first thing in his acceptance speech.

He spent the first part of his speech telling all of the young actors to take a look at Bruce Dern’s work for inspiration, and while he did not win, Bruce Dern was given quite a tribute from Leo.

Leonardo DiCaprio won the award for Best Actor In A Motion Picture-Musical Or Comedy, and also took the opportunity to mock the format in which the Golden Globes deliver their awards.

He was shocked at the fact that he was able to win for a comedy when he clearly does not make comedies, and neither does Martin Scorsese, who directed the film. He also thanked his “fellow comedians” in a joking way, particularly Bruce Dern, who is also clearly not a comedian.

The Wolf Of Wall Street marked the fifth time that Leo and Scorsese had worked together, and their collaboration was a success again.

DiCaprio gave a heartfelt speech as he accepted the award, and as someone who has plenty of experience working with other legendary actors, and several award nominations himself, he was able to recognize the talent of Bruce Dern, and felt honored to be nominated with him.

Bruce Dern was nominated for his role in Nebraska, and lost to Leonardo DiCaprio for his portrayal of Jordan Belfort, a wall street elite who was convicted of federal fraud crimes. The other nominees were Oscar Isaac for Inside Llewlyn Davis, Christian Bale for American Hustle and Joaquin Phoenix for Her.

Dern has had a long career in film, and while he was playing an aging father in his latest film, he continues to act at the age of 77.

In Nebraska, he plays an aging father who makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son (Will Forte) in order to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize.

He has already gained a lot of attention for his role in the film, and with the Academy Award nominations right around the corner, he is likely to be nominated for another Oscar. He was previously nominated for an Oscar for his role in Coming Home.

Bruce Dern is set for even more award recognition, and even if he does not win any awards for his work in Nebraska, it has already been viewed as an impressive performance, and as Leo mentioned, his work is worth checking out for any young actors out there.
