  • Lucy Lawless Makes Debut in “Ash vs Evil Dead”

Lucy Lawless made her debut on Saturday night in Ash vs Evil Dead on Starz. In her role as Ruby, Lucy Lawless has a bone to pick with Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams. She is sure he’s behind the destruction of her family.

Saturday night’s episode gave fans just the slightest taste of what Lucy Lawless’s character will soon become. In fact, she promises that if blood and insanity is what you like, that’s exactly what you’ll soon get.

“It’s becoming a thing now,” Lawless said in an interview with E! News. “Let’s put Lucy in a bath. Make her naked, cover her in blood. I thought, now it’s all over, and then I just got this call where they’re like, you know that scene that didn’t quite work? We think it’s going to work better if you’re naked. People always want me to kick ass, or be a dominatrix. This is how I’m perceived.”

Lucy Lawless added that even though she is known for doing some crazy stuff on Spartacus, this new role in Ash vs Evil Dead blows it all away.

“Every job I do is pretty horrifying these days,” she said. “On Spartacus, there was some terrible horrible stuff going on, but at least that was based in some kind of reality. Then I went on to Salem and I’m bleeding out virgins over a bath, and I’m stroking naked protégés to get rid of their burns, and I’m thinking this takes the cake, and then I get on the Evil Dead show, and everything else I’ve ever done has been blown away.”

Even though it may be a while before Lucy Lawless is in full-blown action on Ash vs Evil Dead, it won’t be long before the series shows its insanity.

Did you watch Saturday night’s episode? Do you think this may be Lucy Lawless’s best role yet?

  • Lucy Lawless Says She Had “No Clue” What “Evil Dead” Role Was For Most Of Series

Lucy Lawless sat down for an interview with Observer recently, where she spilled the beans about her character on the upcoming STARZ series Ash Vs. Evil Dead, and she says the writers went back and forth so much on the role that they really didn’t have a handle on it until several episodes in.

“They kind of knew where they were going with the character, but they wanted to take some time to set up the world. You have to build the world before you can destroy it. Plus, I came on a bit late, and they still hadn’t decided what the role was. First it was Ruby Knowby, then she wasn’t, then she was, then she wasn’t again. By episode NINE, they decided ‘oh, yeah she totally is.’ That’s why when people asked who Ruby was we had to be like ‘oh, she’s a mysterious character’ because really we were like ‘We don’t know! We have no f**king clue!” Lawless said.

Lucy Lawless is perhaps best known in the U.S. as Xena, the Warrior Princess; however, she says she was careful not to put any of that character into her latest role, even though it was physically demanding like her old series.

“I don’t want bloody Xena in there. The physicality is quite different. I had to be careful to not make those kind of Xena sounds, which are quite natural to me when I’m fighting something. I don’t want to be Xena-esque, at all. You don’t smoosh those things together,” Lucy said.

The series–which will premiere on STARZ on Halloween–has drawn quite a bit of interest from fans of the original movies, which all star Bruce Campbell. There was even some question about whether there would be a cross-over at some point which featured Bruce’s character (Ash) and the one played by Jane Levy in the 2013 remake of the film. However, director Sam Raimi says it just hasn’t been possible.

“That’s something that I said I wanted to see. And I talked to Fede Alvarez, the director of the Evil Dead remake, and even said it at Comic-Con. But the reality is, once you’ve got these showrunners and writers working on this juggernaut, trying to figure out where the season’s going to go, it’s very hard to simultaneously write a combo movie that would fit in with where the series is going to end up at that particular point, and it really would have to coalesce with what the writers are doing in the writers’ room. So even though I said it, realistically, I don’t know how we’d be able to pull it off at this particular moment.”

  • Lucy Lawless To Star In New “Evil Dead” Series

Lucy Lawless has officially been cast in the upcoming Starz series Ash Vs. Evil Dead, and fans of Xena are pleased at the news of a reunion.

Lawless will join her former co-star, Bruce Campbell, for the series as Ruby, a woman on a mission to track down the source of a recent outbreak of evildoing. According to Entertainment Weekly, she believes that Campbell’s character is at the heart of it all.

The 10-episode show will be executive produced by Sam Raimi, who worked with Lawless on Xena: Warrior Princess as well. According to a report by Deadline, the show will begin filming this year and aims to air before the end of 2015.

The show is already garnering fans, with Twitter buzzing about the casting choices and fans of the Evil Dead films excited to see Campbell back with his boomstick. The show, which will be filmed in New Zealand, is being called a sequel to Evil Dead.

Ash Vs. Evil Dead is the latest in a series of television roles for Lawless, who has appeared on Flight Of The Conchords, Parks And Recreation, and Salem since her warrior princess days.

Lucy can count on an easy time filming, as she already has a fan in her co-star. Campbell told Blastr.com that he would do just about anything to keep her happy on the show.

“We just added her to our cast, and I got to tell you, I couldn’t be happier. Some actors you work with and you know that you’re going to fail the chemistry test. There are some that you know you won’t fail it. She’s great; I worked with her a lot in the Xena days, and it’s great to have her on Ash vs. Evil Dead. She is a beautiful woman who is very talented. I expect her to hog every one of our scenes, and I’ll let her because she’s Lucy Lawless; we want her to be happy on the show, and we have a very good part for her,” he said.

  • Prepare Your Boomsticks for This Animated Evil Dead Tribute

There are a lot of people out there who love the “Evil Dead” movies, so much so that they’re willing to stand in line for several hours at numerous horror conventions just to get a peek at their hero, Bruce Campbell. I happen to be one of those folks who grew up watching the “Evil Dead” movies as a kid, thanks in part to the folks who programmed the USA Network back in the early 90’s. God bless your degenerate souls. Without their assistance, I may not have stumbled across these films until several years later. There’s no telling how my life would have turned out had I not discovered “Evil Dead 2” on VHS while in middle school.

Director Daniel Kanemoto, inspired by the work of artist Olly Moss, decided to pay tribute to the franchise by putting together the animated clip you see below. In short, it’s a crash course through the zany world of Sam Raimi’s “Evil Dead”, complete with iconic moments and nifty one-liners. If you haven’t seen the films, then the numerous references will probably be lost on you. Still, anyone with a passing interest in cool animation should find something to love about the clip. As fan of the series, I happen to think it’s insanely badass.

  • Bruce Campbell Joins, Dominates Twitter

    Bruce Campbell Joins, Dominates Twitter

Hail to the King, baby. That’s what’s happening on Twitter right now as the almighty Bruce Campbell has joined, just in time to confirm rumors of a fourth Evil Dead movie. If ever an actor exemplified “cult classic,” it’s Campbell, after starring in such gems as the aforementioned Evil Dead series, Bubba Ho-Tep, and the USA Network series, Burn Notice, among others. To the general public, Campbell is probably most recognized for his cameos in the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movies, but his credibility with the geek sector is white-hot.

That probably explains why both Bruce and the rumored Evil Dead sequel are trending on Twitter at the moment. Not only did Campbell join the Twitter revolution, but he also indicated the Evil Dead sequel is, in fact, real.

@TheMike31 Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell. 14 hours ago via Twitter for iPhone · powered by @socialditto

While some may be troubled by the “remake” portion of Campbell’s post, the fact that they are indeed going ahead with another installment of Evil Dead is reason enough to rejoice. Granted, some pointed out the delay between Indiana Jones sequels as cause for concern, but then again, George Lucas has nothing to do with the Evil Dead series, so perhaps these fears are unfounded:

As for the reaction to the news of Campbell, and the Evil Dead sequel, does the word “nerdgasm” mean anything to you? It’s surprising that particular word didn’t hit the Twitter trend list:

Yes, the word “groovy” most definitely fits here. In fact, anytime Bruce Campbell is even mentioned, the word “groovy” needs to be included somewhere. As an ode to the good news, here’s a fantastic clip of Bruce in action:
