  • Brian Griffin Is Back, Tattoo Removals To Commence

When character Brian Griffin appeared to have been killed in a recent Family Guy episode, many fans were outraged and critics puzzled. Surely removing such an integral character would cause problems? There was backlash, petitions, and the expectation that the show would tank.

Sorry Vinny, your sudden introduction into the family wasn’t sitting well with anyone. Luckily, hints were then dropped regarding a special Christmas episode that would possibly maybe most definitely result in the return of the beloved pooch.

Well lo and behold, the miracle happened. Warm and fuzzies were felt all around. Perhaps some cheeks reddened in the face of loud, “I told you so” remarks.

There is little doubt that some cheeks are a bit redder than others. Cheeks belonging to persons like this short-sighted fellow. These semi-permanent images on the body are meant to convey a message of “Gone, but not forgotten.” When Brian was so suddenly taken away from the Family Guy fandom, it left some well-meaning individuals feeling the need to express their loss. Well, what better form of self-expression than something you get to look at every day for the rest of your life?

With Brian’s revival, it’s very likely at least one person will need to get some body ink removed or re-done.

    Or maybe not.

As someone correctly noted, the show will probably be canceled or end in a few seasons, which would technically render such “RIP Brian Griffin” tattoos relevant again.

Face-saving attempts aside, it’s been a good weekend for Brian Griffin, his cartoon family, and everyone hoping against hope that he’d be back.

Which probably wouldn’t count the newly adopted Vinny: The cheeky retcon left him having never been adopted.

    Whoops…?

  • Brian Griffin Is Back On ‘Family Guy’

Three weeks ago, the writers of the popular cartoon Family Guy, made a very controversial decision to kill off a member of the Griffin family. Rather than traumatizing viewers indefinitely by killing off one of the parents or children, they decided to say goodbye to the family pet Brian.

“As much as we love Brian, and as much as everyone loves their pets, we felt it would be more traumatic to lose one of the kids, rather than the family pet,” executive producer Steve Callaghan said at the time.

However, despite Callaghan’s beliefs, it seems as though viewers were more upset about the death of Brian then they would have been if they had killed off Stewie. In the episode titled, Life of Brian, Brian is hit by a car and eventually dies surrounded by his family in a very emotionally fueled scene.

Viewers were outraged, and have since been pressuring the producers of Family Guy to bring the beloved pet back. Over 125,000 people signed an online petition asking the producers to bring back Brian.

Callaghan originally said that he was not concerned about the backlash from fans from killing off Brian. “I’m not, only because our fans are smart enough and have been loyal to our show for long enough, to know that they can trust us,” said Callaghan. “We always make choices that always work to the greatest benefit of the series.”

During the season twelve Christmas special, that aired over the weekend, Stewie uses his time machine to go back in time to rescue Brian from being hit by the car, and ultimately saves Brian’s life. So, was this the plan all along, or did the viewers actually convince the producers to bring Brian back? Either way, Brian has returned from the dead, and has granted Stewie’s Christmas wish to have his friend back.

  • Brian Griffin: Beloved ‘Family Guy’ Dog Resurrected

Brian Griffin, the beloved dog on the hit show Family Guy was resurrected on Sunday night’s Christmas episode.

Brian was hit by a car and met his demise in an episode back in November. The Griffin family soon bought a new dog named Vinnie, in a half-hearted attempt to replace Brian. When the Christmas episode opened Sunday night, Brian was still in the great hereafter, and Vinnie was part of the show’s credits. Viewers could sense that something big was about to happen, however.

Stewie pined terribly for Brian, so in an attempt to cheer him up, Vinnie dressed up like the deceased dog. Of course that didn’t work (imagine such a scenario in real life–sick humor at its best–so apropos), so Vinnie tried again to cheer Stewie by taking him to the mall. While there, during a visit to Santa, Stewie tells the man in red that all he wants for Christmas is to have Brian back.

A plan is soon hatched between Stewie and Vinnie involving the time machine Stewie used just before Brian Griffin was killed. They worked the machine to transport Stewie back in time–just in time to save Brian’s life.

Brian’s line of thanks to Stewie is classic Family Guy, and will no doubt go down in the annals of Family Guy history.

Brian told Stewie that “a lot of other families would have just gotten another dog and moved on.”

    If he only knew.

Some fans believe that Brian Griffin was resurrected due to fan outrage. A petition to bring Brian back garnered many signatures.

Alas the entire plot was a carefully planned strategy on behalf of the show’s creator that clearly worked. Creator Seth MacFarlane tweeted about it following the episode’s airing.

A short time after, in true Seth MacFarlane form, he added this message for his fans.

If you’re a Family Guy fan, you’re probably celebrating the news that Brian Griffin is alive and well. You can now go about your Christmas plans with joy in your hearts and the idea of what you could possibly do with a time machine in your heads. Some might be permanently scarred from the suggestion about Stewie’s use of his knee pads. But what’s that compared to a resurrection?

  • Brian Griffin Comes Back To Life on Family Guy

Last month, the Family Guy writers made a controversial move by killing off beloved family dog Brian. The move shocked viewers into full blown outrage. For weeks fans have been trying to get the Family Guy writers to change their decision about Brian’s life. Well it turns out that fans were overreacting…a bit. Because Brian came back to life only two episodes later.

In the episode entitled “Life of Brian”, Brian is hit by a car and ultimately dies. On tonight’s Christmas special episode of Family Guy, entitledChristmas Guy”, an emotional Stewie tells a mall Santa that all he wanted for Christmas is Brian back. The replacement dog, Vinnie, tries to help Stewie deal with his grief, but his efforts fail to help him  recover from Brian’s death. Eventually, the two travel back in time to save Brian from getting hit by a car.

Killing off Brian ranks high in the most talked about 2013 television events category. It sparked all kinds of media buzz. It even sent some fans to Change.Org to get the Family Guy producers to rethink their decision. The petition received over 75,000 signatures before closing.

This is just one case in which shows’ creators see how invested their fans are in their shows and its characters.  Whether Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane killed Brian to get buzz for the show, or to show a big moral lesson to the viewers, they may never know. However, MacFarlane tweets after the show suggests the latter.

    He tweeted this:

Then followed it up with this:

The real moral lesson from Brian’s death and resurrection is that fans should at least wait a couple episodes before they begin to panic and start a petition to get a character back on a show.  They should also maybe remember that cartoon characters die and come back quite often.

  • Brian The Dog: Back From The Dead?

Brian The Dog: Back From The Dead?

If you were one of the millions of stunned Family Guy viewers who didn’t take too well to the death of Brian Griffin, your tears of woe may not have been in vain. It has been recently revealed that there are plans to have the family pet make a return. The speculation is due to an upcoming Christmas-themed episode where the baby, Stewie, plots to have the one thing he wants more than anything else. If it were anything other than the return of his recently departed pet, the audience may have a huge conniption. So perhaps, just as many speculated, the producers saw the writing on the wall and felt it would be better to retcon a dead dog and a replacement pooch.

Producer Steve Callaghan said the decision to kill Brian would be, “a fun way to shake things up“. Well, shake things up the show did. Now it seems that a move is being made to bring things back to the way they were.

    Or is there?

While cynics were counting down the days until the seemingly inevitable return of the popular character, there’s still a chance for the entire fandom to be thrown for yet another loop. Perhaps the episode will have Brian happy “on the other side” and wishing to remain at peace. The dog’s mother had been revealed to have died in an earlier, and perhaps he’ll finally have the chance to get to know her. While it’s mentioned that the character is expected to feature in an episode next season (with guest-star Maya Rudolph), there’s nothing to the news to suggest a permanent return. It’s possible the dog may only feature in a flashback or cut away joke.

In other words, it’s probably best wait and see what happens with the Christmas special and future episodes before assuming one way or the other. While it’s most definite we’ll be seeing Brian again, how much of the dog and how permanently he’ll be seen has yet to be confirmed.

  • ‘Family Guy’ Brian Killed Off Show, Fans Start Petition

In most cases, the unexpected drama buzz that starts the week comes from Sunday-night TV shows like “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” or “The Real Housewives of Atlanta. However, that definitely wasn’t the case this Sunday, and even the AMA’s couldn’t overshadow this one. Fox’s hit animated series, “Family Guy” wins the unexpected award for unexpected turns.

So what exactly happened? In an unexpected turn of events, the Griffin family dog was hit by a car. After he was taken to the veterinary hospital, it was announced that he was dying. Brian spoke his final words, and flat-lined on the table! Family Guy’s Brian Griffin was more than just the family dog. Some would say he was arguably the most logical and intelligent member of the Griffin family. That’s one of the things that made his character so humorous. He actually had all of the characteristics of an actual human being. However, he still ended up dying as a dog. While Stewie made an attempt to save him, the damage was already done.

So what now? That’s the question fans around the world are asking. Many were outraged by the abrupt turn of events. Some question how the change will alter the dynamic of the show, as Brian was one of the major characters in the series. Others wonder did he actually die? Hundreds of fans even took to Twitter to weigh in on Brian’s death.

While the tweets kept pouring in, that wasn’t the only method of response fans offered the creators of the show. They’ve also begun to protest. The Orlando Sentinel reported that ‘Family Guy’ have registered a petition on Change.org. The petition, which is directed to ‘Family Guy’ creator Seth MacFarlane, and Fox Broadcasting Company, explained that the character Brian Griffin was a dominant part of the ‘Family Guy’ experience. The online petition also states that the show can expect to lose viewership due to the decision. As of Tuesday, Nov. 25, 37,060 supporters have signed the petition.

A Facebook fan page entitled, “Brian Lives On” was also created in honor of Brian. Since Sunday, the page has picked up 377K likes.

Will Sunday’s episode really be the last of Brian? If fans have any say over the executive decision, he’ll be back. However, it all boils down to what the network and creators have to say, so we’ll just have to see how it all goes.

  • Family Guy Fans Angry With Brian’s Death

Family Guy Fans Angry With Brian’s Death

Nobody likes to see their favorite character removed from a show and when that character is killed off, it can be even harder to deal with. Brian Griffin may have just been a dog on Family Guy, but he was an essential character and a viewer favorite. But Family Guy writers decided that Brian’s character had ran its course and decided it was time for this old dog to stop learning new tricks.

Brian was killed off during Sunday’s episode when he was unexpectedly hit by a car. Brian died at the vet’s office surrounded by his family and fellow Family Guy characters. Although Family Guy is usually a show that is full of laughs, random moments and nonsense punchlines, the passing of Brian was a sad moment for fans.

Family Guy viewers didn’t take Brian’s death lightly and many were angered by it. Some fans went out of their way to get their opinion heard and soon a RIP Brian Griffin Facebook page was created. It got over 120,000 Likes within a couple hours. An online petition on the Change.org website was also created for fans to sign if they thought Family Guy was wrong in killing such a beloved character.

The show’s executive producer said that he knew killing Brian would bring on some criticism but felt that the show needed a change. He said,

“Well, this was an idea that got pitched in the writers room and it sort of caught fire, and we thought it could be a fun way to shake things up. As soon as this idea came up, we started talking about what the next couple episodes could be and we got very excited about the way this change will affect the family dynamics and the characters.”

Even with the explanation, it seems that Family Guy viewers just aren’t ready to see Brian Griffin go to dog heaven.

  • Family Guy’s Brian Griffin Killed By Car

It is sad but true…Brian, the dog, was hit by a car and died during Sunday night’s episode of Family Guy. Fans are outraged that they would kill off such an important character, but the executive producer, Steve Callaghan, says it was time for a change.

During an interview with E!, Callaghan explained why they chose to write off one of the main characters. “Well, this was an idea that got pitched in the writers room and it sort of caught fire, and we thought it could be a fun way to shake things up. As soon as this idea came up, we started talking about what the next couple episodes could be and we got very excited about the way this change will affect the family dynamics and the characters.”

“It seemed more in the realm of reality that a dog would get hit by a car, than if one of the kids died,” said Callaghan. “As much as we love Brian, and as much as everyone loves their pets, we felt it would be more traumatic to lose one of the kids, rather than the family pet.”

What is even more upsetting is that the writers immediately replaced Brian with a new dog, Vinny. There should at least be some sort of mourning period, especially since Brian has been a part of every episode since the pilot aired in 1999.

Callaghan told E! that he was not concerned about backlash from fans. He believed that the fans would remain loyal to the show. However, judging by social media comments, it looks like they are extremely upset and that Family Guy may have just lost a few thousand viewers.

“I’m not, only because our fans are smart enough and have been loyal to our show for long enough, to know that they can trust us,” said Callaghan. “We always make choices that always work to the greatest benefit of the series.”

Brian’s last words were, “You have given me a wonderful life…I love you.” He died in the vet’s office surrounded by his family. Such a tear jerker.
